A heartwarming cozy mystery series about losing everything, taking a chance, and starting again.
After suffering a personal tragedy Abby Sullivan buys a huge old seaside mansion she has never even seen, packs up her life in San Francisco, and moves to Holiday Bay Maine, where she is adopted, quite against her will, by a huge Maine Coon Cat named Rufus, a drifter with her own tragic past named Georgia, and a giant dog with an inferiority complex named Ramos. What Abby thought she needed was alone time to heal. What she ended up with was, an inn she never knew she wanted, a cat she couldn't seem to convince to leave, and a new family she'd never be able to live without.
In book 12 in the series, Lacy takes over as director for the local Thanksgiving Pageant after the director they had appointed is bitten by a snake. The pageant seems to have met with bad luck from the beginning but when the star is found dead in the trap-room Abby becomes convinced the entire production is cursed.Meanwhile new guests check into the inn including three half sisters, all the same age, who never even knew of the existence of their half siblings prior to the reading of their grandmother's will. Their grandmother left each granddaughter a third of her extensive fortune but in order to collect the inheritance the sisters must work together to find answers and make decisions in the ten days allotted them to do so.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

I grabbed this book first thing the morning when I realized it was now available. I love visiting the Inn at Holiday Bay. Abby and Georgia and the other characters are now all well-rounded and fleshed out. I really enjoy spending time with them and look forward to the next mystery that Abby will help Colt to solve. The guests that stay at the inn always add a delightful side story, too. It always compliments the setting without taking away from the main mystery story. I'm already looking forward to the next one in this series.
Between 3 and 4 stars, but I'm rounding down to 3.
This one didn't wow me like the other books in the series have. Usually I read these in one evening because I can't put it down, but this one took me a couple of weeks to read. Although it had several intriguing plots, it felt...distracted, unfocused, almost as if it was just trying to kill some time before the end of the book. And considering this was meant to be aThanksgiving themed book, it had very, very little Thanksgiving-y fuss about it. It was more or less a footnote at the end.
The main mystery, who killed Dashwood Hollander and why was the biggest head-scratcher. Not only didn't he appear in the book (well, not while he was alive, anyway) but none of the suspects ever appeared in the book. It's hard to try and sleuth along with Abby if there's no frame of reference on the clues or the motives. In fact, most of the book was Abby rehashing everything over and over.
The secondary mystery of sorts, the three half-sisters given tasks to complete to inherit money from the mother of their absentee dad, was definitely the more interesting of the two plots. In fact, if that was the main plot and had more interaction with the three sisters, it would've been a great read on its own, but ended up being watered down in favor of the primary non-mystery.
So, the central theme to this review is....Meh. I'm hoping the next book out soon will be better.
Turkey in the Trap-Room earns 5/5 Green Jelly Beans...Clever, Engaging Page Turner!
Holiday Fun with Kathi Daley! Abby Sullivan’s good friend, Lacy Parker, is absolutely beside herself. She’s in charge of the town’s annual production of the Thanksgiving Pageant with the hopes of making it the best one ever, but the central figure has “flown the coop.” Abby’s role as support puts her in charge of finding the temperamental turkey along with locating some wayward boys, and checking on a young girl who overindulged eating green jelly beans oblivious to the fact they were “prop peas.” Does anyone believe in curses? If not, it’ll be hard to explain all the “curse-worthy” incidents plaguing the idea of a smooth pageant from the a poisoned director needing to be replaced, a wave of the flu hitting several cast members, lighting fixtures crashing, and now a missing bird. But, with closer examination...a dead body hidden in the theater’s trap-room! Also The Inn at Holiday Bay is set to greet three half-sisters as guests. Each sister has had no knowledge of each other or contact with their shared father, but they are prominently mentioned in their paternal grandmother’s will set to inherit a fortune. The catch! Each woman must arrive in person and work collaboratively on a project with a time limit of ten days.
Kathi Daley has penned another excellent addition to her Inn at Holiday Bay series. Fans join “literary” friends as they manage the Inn’s activities, host a myriad of guests, prep for Thanksgiving festivities, enjoy loving relationships, and investigate mysteries and murder. Although some of the clues and details are gathered off the page, the mystery unfolds steadily with catch-up conversations and “what did you find out?” updates. The victim was involved in a couple of court cases that could implicate several suspects from bankruptcy victims to the dispersement a large estate to beneficiaries. Money is a powerful incentive, but enough to commit murder? Of course, but beyond the suspected revenge or greed, betrayal might be on the menu. Kathi’s writing style uses descriptive language to paint the lovely Maine setting and various characters and the dialogue is witty and informative, keeping readers engaged and entertained, but there’s been positive personal growth, flourishing of relationships, and lots of holidaying over the series...however, newbies can easily start here! Loved it!
It's Thanksgiving in Holiday Bay, and writer/innkeeper Abby Sullivan is helping her friend Lacy with the annual Thanksgiving pageant when she finds the dead body of the lawyer who's starring in the show.
This isn't a bad book, but it's bland. The mystery could have been much more compelling if the character and story had been given more depth. Plus, there was limited insight into the main characters personal lives, which is the best part of the series. This novel isn't bad, but it's not very good either. It just...is.
Abby has been helping out her friend Lacy who has taken over as director for the local Thanksgiving Pageant. The pageant has been mired with accidents and when a main actor is found in the trap room dead, murdered it looks as if it might be doomed. Abby figures the killer had to be someone at the rehearsal but who and why are the questions that need to be answered. Meanwhile the Inn is busy as usual with new guests checking in and stories from those guest to be told. Follow along as Abby does what she can to figure out who a killer is and at the same time learn the interesting story her new guests have to tell. This was a great read filled with wonderful characters and a plot to dive into.
The characters are interesting and fun to read. The storyline is complexed and intriguing which made me want to read more with every turn of each page.
The town and the close friends are getting ready for Thanksgiving and preparing to put on the Thanksgiving play. The Inn is going to be packed with guests. In the midst of play rehearsal a body is found and people are believing everything is jinxed. I really enjoy the holidays in Holiday Bay. Makes me want to move there. People are friendly and helpful. I can’t wait to read the next Holiday Bay book!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Why was that turkey in the trap room? Abby hells Colt solve yet another murder. Lacy disbands the Thanksgiving pageant. Three half sisters staying at the inn must make decisions in order to receive an inheritance from their grandmother.
The ending felt a bit contrived, and there was a very large loose thread left hanging about another storyline that had nothing to do with the murder. Maybe that loose thread will be picked up in the next book.
Turkey in the Trap-Room is the twelfth book in Kathi Daley’s heartwarming The Inn at Holiday Bay series. The well-plotted storyline flows smoothly in this clean read, and there are lots of twists and red herrings in the complex mysteries contained within this book. The setting is charming, and the well-developed characters are three-dimensional, compassionate, and caring. Every time I pick up one of Ms. Daley’s books, I know I’m in for a treat, and they have never disappointed me. I highly recommend this series to readers who enjoy well-crafted cozy mysteries.
After Abby Sullivan’s lost her husband and their infant son in a tragic accident, she moved to Holiday Bay, Maine, opened the Inn at Holiday Bay, and has made a new life for herself, and found a home and a family. Georgia Carter, who has also overcome obstacles in her life, is the inn’s talented cook/baker and manager, and she and her Newfoundland dog, Ramos, live with Abby, Rufus, a Maine Coon, and Molly, a terrier mix, in a cottage on the property. Georgia’s cable cooking show, Cooking with Georgia, is doing very well. Jeremy Slater, who lives in the inn’s basement apartment with his young niece, Annabelle, is a valuable asset as he helps Georgia with the day-to-day operations of the inn.
When Abby’s friend, Lacy Parker, takes over as the director for the local Thanksgiving Pageant, Abby steps in to help her. During a dress rehearsal for The First Thanksgiving at Holiday Bay, Tom, the live turkey staring in the play, goes missing from his cage, and when Abby locates him, she not only finds Tom in the trap-room, she also finds the body of Dashwood Hollander, a local attorney who was portraying Miles Standish in the play. Prior to his death, Dashwood Hollander arranged for three young women, Shelby Morris, Sage Wilson, and Sierra Danielson, who stand to inherit millions of dollars from the grandmother they never knew existed, to spend ten days at the Inn at Holiday Bay. During the reading of the will, the women learn that they are half-sisters and that Henrietta Rosewood, their paternal grandmother, has left a list of tasks for them to perform during their stay in Holiday Bay before they can officially inherit their portion of the estate.
Dopo due letture così così sono andata a colpo sicuro, tanto ormai so che questa serie non mi delude mai. Mi piace come sta evolvendo la vita dei vari personaggi ricorrenti...
So I think by now I’m used to kathys writing style. I do enjoy the series and I’m glad Abby and Colt are together I get so involved in these characters and I want them to have this happy ending and the town and the people. I even enjoy the guests that come to say. I was really hoping to hear more from the last book about one case in particular and if she ever found her ending, I could be wrong but I can’t remember the guest name but it did start with a A. Starting this book I thought maybe we would get some answers and they did talk about this cast for a minute saying she arrived and would keep them posted. Then we jump into a murder during a Thanksgiving play. I mean the murder was interesting there was a bunch of suspects and of course Abby helped solve it. We do get introduced to three sisters who were actually half-sisters never knew each other and got left with millions of dollars from their grandmother and now they have to make a decision for everything they got I am curious to see what they decide on the house and if they keep in touch. Normally I get this series of five but this time around I just felt like there was still questions from the last book and normally there and heard but not yet hopefully the next book
Rather weak again with the murder of an attorney , Dashwood Hollander, at the play rehearsal. He's coincidentally also the attorney for the three sisters booked into the Inn who have never met and are potentially set to inherit millions from their paternal grandmother if only they can agree.
As the sisters work through the tasks set by their deceased grandmother Colt and Abby are trying to unpick the truth about Dashwood's death. He had a rather unsavoury clientele and was working for a man who had been found guilty of negligent investment. The investors had banded together to make a claim against him and his wife, who was wealthy in her own right, having lost their entire savings.. but would they really kill the attorney?
And that is the rub.. no I don't believe they would.. so the whole thing becomes very silly and the turkey being stuck in with the body just totally ridiculous and rather silly.
The series appeared to have so much promise but it's drifted into nothing really. We could have had a great twist with the whole Ben thing but it was dropped and forgotten. Such a shame.
This edition of the Inn at Holiday Bay offers a detailed mystery. It is interesting to follow the thought processes of the characters as they add and subtract suspects.
In addition, I am happy to see the relationship between Abby and Colt begin to mature. Abby has moved from such sadness and tragedy to one of comfort and contentment. A place where a lot of folks would like to be.
The locale for the books adds to this satisfaction. The Inn at Holiday Bay is located one of the most beautiful areas of the USA. It’s fun to be included in the changing seasons and fun-filled holidays.
Of course, the mysteries add an additional level of excitement. I hope that we get to learn about the three sisters in future stories.
If you are a follower of Daley’s series, you will note the cross over of some characters. I have enjoyed all of her books. Including hints from the other series creates an expansion of her stories that I find refreshing.
I continue to an admirer of writers who are able to produce so many stories that hold the reader’s interest. Daley is one of the best.
Lacy takes over the job of directing Holiday Bay's annual Thanksgiving pageant after the original director was bitten by a snake. What more could possibly go wrong? Just about everything, including Abby and Lacy finding the battered body of the local lawyer who was playing the lead role of Miles Standish while they were searching for the live turkey stage prop who had escaped from his cage. Also in this book, three half-sisters in their mid-twenties meet for the very first time at the Inn. They were each informed that a rich grandmother (who none of them knew existed) had left them a fortune to divide after her death with some unusual strings attached. Abby and her staff at the Inn are busy preparing for another busy holiday season. Abby has done an amazing job of finding a new direction for her life to go in two years after her husband and baby son were killed in a car accident. The final phrase in this book sums that up nicely : "I know that the future I'm working toward, most likely has been part of my destiny all along."
Of the two books I have read thus far, I am really enjoying this series. This was another great Thanksgiving mystery that had tons of mystery, intrigue, and a bit of humor.
The opening of Abby finding a body underneath a trap door with a turkey during rehearsal of the Thanksgiving pageant was just hilarious. It was quite the way to kickstart the mystery. It was interesting and entertaining as Abby put the puzzle together at a really engaging pace. I loved all the layers to it.
The second intriguing part of the story was the three half sister, who didn’t know about each other, had come to claim their inheritance and were staying at the inn. In fact they were connected to the victim because he was the lawyer that represented the estate. I liked that little link there, but more their storytelling was getting to know information about their unknown father and family. I was invested in much in that storyline as I was the mystery. I just thought that it was a really done well overall.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
1. Cursed play (2nd year of constant problems in the winter play). 2. 3 half sisters playing scavenger hunt. One sister trying to decide if she wants to stay in town and make it her home. 3. Murder of the half sisters attorney. 4. Missing possible murderer. 5. Stolen jewels possibly funneled through the Holiday Bay theater. 6. Budding relationship between Colt and Abby (my favorite thing!) 7. A thumb drive Abby found on the stage trap door possibly containing info on the attorney’s murder.
Like all previous 11 books, most of the mysteries have been solved, but also like the previous, the next book will have answers to the rest. I’m looking forward to seeing if one or all of the sisters will end up making Holiday Bay their home and we’ll have the new characters for the Holiday Bay Inn family.
Next book is The 13th of 18. The Inn at Holiday Bay: Cookies in the Cottage.
Wow! I really enjoyed this Thanksgiving with the Holiday Bay clan. Sure it included another great cozy mystery in that someone was murdered during the rehearsal for the Thanksgiving play, but it was more than that. Again, Abby reminds us of what the true meaning of Thanksgiving is by giving us another look into what she went through, and how far she has come. She reminds us that no matter what happens, we should always try to look forward, and be thankful for all we have. Here are Abby's words, "I guess, like all good things, all I can do at this point is wait to see how life evolves, but deep in my heart, I know that the future I’m working toward, most likely has been part of my destiny all along." Such beautiful words from a beautiful character.
"Turkey in the Trap-Room (The Inn at Holiday Bay #12)" by Kathi Daley is a Thanksgiving themed cozy mystery. There's a Thanksgiving play and they talk about plans for Thanksgiving. It wraps up with it as well. However, this one has some very key plot points that are nearly identical to the last Thanksgiving themed book in this series (#6) that are kind like "seriously?". Now, I've only read those two and maybe that's why I noticed it more or maybe they're all basically same key plot points, different holiday and a few different extra story points.
Despite the duplication of key plot points, the overall story was better than the 6th book (just my opinion). It was more themed out and had more depth to some of the additional story lines. The clues added up a bit better as well. Overall a good Thanksgiving Cozy Mystery.
Abby is helping her friend, Lacy, with the Thanksgiving pageant and is looking for the live turkey after it was set loose. When Abby finally finds the bird, that's not the only discovery. She finds the body of the star of the show. Now, Colt must determine exactly WHY the man was killed before he can determine WHO killed him. And, as usual, Abby is drawn into the investigation.
I really like this series and this book is no exception. It's well-written with wonderful characters whom you'll love getting to know and lots going on. I was caught up from the beginning and kept hooked until the end. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order as you won't be disappointed. Kathi Daley is a master of the cozy mystery.
I love the characters in this series. The Turkey in the Trap-Room is a fun, and complicated mystery with a Thanksgiving theme.
Abby and her friends are involved in putting on a Thanksgiving play, when she discovers a dead human body, inside the trap-room at the theater while looking for the live turkey that was supposed to be used as a prop.
The inn has three guests who are in town for a very unusual reason. An elderly woman died and left a large inheritance to three young women she never met, who must complete several tasks together before inheriting.
Warm, cozy and with lots of mystery and a splash of romance, this book is wonderfully typical of Kathi Daley's work. I enjoyed it from the first page, right through to the end. Highly recommended!
The inn at Holiday Bay: Turkey in the Trap-Room by Author Kathie Daley is another excellent addition to her Holiday Bay series. I love how the series has both consistent characters and characters that pass through the bed and breakfast yet leave an everlasting impression on.the Holiday Bay residents. I loved the engaging storyline in this story. The characters are likable and create an eclectic family, but a family just the same. The support of the main characters to one another is heartwarming. This book leaves the reader with a heartwarming feeling that continues well after the story has ended. This series is a wonderful read and I enjoy it immensely. I recommend you check out Holiday Bay: The Turkey in the Trap-Room on Amazon today!
Turkey in the Trap-Room is the twelth book in the fabulous The Inn at Holiday Bay cozy mystery series by Kathi Daley. The elements of a cozy mystery are present including suspense, danger, romance, humor, love, friends and family, and a sense of community. Chaos erupts surrounding the dress rehearsal for the annual Thanksgiving pageant, including the discovery of a dead body. Abby and friends work to find answers to help solve the murder. As always, Ms. Daley’s writing flows smoothly, and her setting and relatable characters make for an extremely enjoyable read. I can imagine another spin-off series originating from this story.
I have read every book in this series so far and this one was just so-so. I noted a couple of typo errors which for this author is rare. I liked the part about the sisters and their adventures. I did not like the rather crude language in this book such as when the main character and Georgia are talking about the sisters and their background, using the term"knocked up .". It was like crude gossip and honestly, unusual for this author. There was another incident or two within the story but not as crude. I found the story of the murder and search for the culprit a bit too slow moving for me. All in all, this was not my favorite.
I have read this series from the first book. Loved prob the first 4, after that, not so much. Never an exciting ending, moving forward with relationships and past issues arent usually moving too fast, and Abby the inn owner seems to think she is a cop and gets upset if her friend Colt doesnt give her all the info on a murder case. She tends to use her friends to see what she can get out of them. I loved when she bought the inn, could redo it with never ending money. Georgia is wonderful as is Lacy. Just seems the tone of the series has changed. That said, I keep buying the next in the series..lol
Holiday Bay is extra busy as things ramp up not only for Thanksgiving but also the rest of the winter holidays. Lacy is in control of the community Thanksgiving Pagaent, until the turkey gets loose and a major player is found dead. One mystery leads to many speculations and other secrets being revealed. Meanwhile, special guests at the inn are tasked with life altering decisions. I hope we hear more about them in future books. A little romance, wonderful mystery, and the great characters we expect from Author Kathi Daley.
An intriguing and an awesome read is in store when you read this amazing tale by Kathi Daley. Love the characters, love learning more about their lives, and love trying to solve the mystery that comes up in the book. Really enjoyed reading about the 3 sisters and am glad things turned out the way they did - what an interesting and thought provoking adventure they had to take - made me wonder what I would have done! Also this one is centered around Thanksgiving, friends and family, and celebrations -- always heartwarming to read about. All in all, a great cozy mytery.
I really love this series!!!!! Abby is helping Lacy with the Thanksgiving play this year at the local theater, and she is also entertaining a very interesting guests that a lawyer has set up for a client to get three sisters together, for they don't know about each other. While at the theater Abby discover a very bad crime. Now Colt and Abby have to figure out who and why? It is so complicated, and suspect lists is very long. Read this book to find out the details!!!!! You won't be disappointed!!!!
Turkey In The Trap Room ( The Inn At Holiday Bay #12) By: Kathi Daley Turkey In The Trap Room is book twelve in the series The Inn At The Holiday Bay. I was drawn in at the first of the story and did not want to put it down. Thanksgiving Play is being prepared and a dead body shows up and a turkey is missing. There are some suspects that are on the list. A mystery to solve who the killer is and to find a missing turkey. Love this series and the characters, both were well written.
