The Fold #2

Thou Shall Not Hide

Rate this book
Even the saved struggle when navigating their way through love. This much could definitely be said for the Fold Family’s youngest child and only son, Chadwick. Looking for love was never on Chad's list of things to do, until he held Taya in his arms on a dance floor and watched God laugh at his plans. She was beautiful in a way that caught his eyes and his heart. Foreign feelings that wouldn’t fade had him questioning his sanity. They're both too young to fathom that any of this could be real. So, they come and go then come back again until there's nowhere left to hide. Take this journey of discovering, uncovering, and everything in between in this story of love defined in the second installment of The Fold!

“This shit right here was kismet.”

This was a great read. But as amazing as Taya and Chad were, Bre really was my girl. A whole mess but has my whole heart.

Taya x Chad

Well, Chad was just as frustrating as his sister Jada. So I know to expect the same thing from his older sister Angela in the next book.
This story was sort of a slow burn. But Chad and Taya did form a beautiful bond. But the constant lack of communication was frustrating on both ends. Especially Chad. Taya was lovable, and I loved her and Chad's chemistry. Even though he had immaturity tendencies, I still loved Chad. The story was really enjoyable, but I feel like there were some loose ends. I wanted more of Chad and Taya together as a couple…and the ending was rather abrupt.
But still a fun read.

Lawd, these Fold chiren are somethin' else. In the beginning, Chad was almost as dislikeable as Jada was. Both he and Taya were immature and lacked communication skills. But, aside from all that, they were an adorable couple. Their attraction to one another was genuine and real. I truly enjoyed the love journey they embarked on. I absolutely loved me some Bree. Bree is the ride or die BFF we all deserved! She a Saber need their own book. I would love to read about their romance journey. And, that damn Kanika! That heffa really was a wolf in sheeps clothing! I just hate it took Taya so long to finally figure it out. Thou Shall Not Hide was an excellent read. It had just the right amount of drama but, not enough sex scenes. Yeah, I like my books good and raunchy. I can't wait for book three to be released on Audible. But, seriously though, can Bree and Saber get their own book?!!!

Okay, so I was becoming a fan of this author, but the repeated colorism masked as a joke is getting to be annoying. How many light skin jokes you got for Christ Sakes? It was funny in the beginning, but this is like the 4th book of hers I've read where it's mentioned. Do some introspection already and stop perpetuating the colorism on both sides that already plagues our community. The book itself was pretty good, as were the others I've read, but I'm not sure I will bother to pick up another one from this author anytime soon. I'm aggravated at this point. And while BLM is at it's height, fighting for equality in general, I don't really have too much energy for intra-racism too in leisure reading.

Ugh, the feels! I just love me some Chad and Taya! 🥹this story took me by surprise, it captured my attention and never let it go. I loved that there was a good balance of love, drama, and heavy topics. There was a strong theme of forgiveness and closure. Both, Chad and Taya endured challenging things during the book but they were each other’s comfort place. I loved how sweet and gentle Chad was towards Taya when she gave him herself- they were from two different worlds but they worked well. This was a good read!

The abrupt ending couldn’t have come sooner. This had potential but there were too many people, too many side stories, and not enough romance. I’m not sure when they fell in love.

I was really looking forward to Chad’s story. He was the typical PK. He was around the church and knew the ways of the church but the church was not in him. He was a player without apology and was confused when he was automatically attracted to Taya in a more intimate way than he had ever been attracted to anyone before.
Chad was sort of childish to me. He did something in this book that I never would’ve allowed him to get away with. If you read love stories for love scenes this isn’t the book for you but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. There is a reason that Scales limited the love scenes in this one, but the ones we do get weren’t really good to me. For Chad to have been the player he was I expected more but again he was childish in my opinion.
Scales wrote some really good supporting characters and it has me wondering if there is a book for them.
Again, Scales invites you into the Fold and in this world Christians pretty much do whatever and say whatever they want even inside the church. It gives Choir Director by Carl Weber, but I think even Carl’s characters had a little more decorum within the walls of the church.
The subplot was Chad reuniting with his lesbian mother who divorced his pastor father. Chad had a difficult time and hadn’t really spoken to his mother in two years I think. I think this was written in a strange way because as you read you find that they seem to be in the same room at times, yet he just doesn’t speak to her ?? I don’t know. Again, Scales tries to draw you to the mother by giving her this exceptional spiritual insight and possibly even some sort of prophetic gift to push the idea that God still uses individuals who would traditionally be considered backsliders. This particular part of the story never really comes full circle for Chad. Scales never really revisited it after a certain point which even though I don’t agree with what she was pushing, I think that it falls short. There were a couple things I feel Scales didn’t really round out in this installment, but I digress. I think this installment was something to pass my time, but it wasn’t necessary for me to finish the series.

This family, I tell you!

I thought Jada was a lot but Chad had her beat. Add Taya into the mix and it was like a car accident, you couldn’t turn away. Being a PK, I understand the pressure to be and the dysfunction that can arise from that. Chad really was a loving and giving soul who was wounded by the failure of love he saw up close. Taya carries a burden that is not hers primarily but just as heavy all the same. They were made for each other to heal one another. I didn’t want the book to end.

I listened to the audiobook, which is always a treat when Wesleigh Siobhan and Jakobi Diem are narrating. High point of the book.

The book was ok, but left me with questions. I felt like I hadn't listened thoroughly enough. There seemed to be so many details left out that would have made the story more cohesive for me.

How old were Chad and Taya supposed to be? She seemed naive for someone in the music industry that spends her time on tour. I would think she would have encountered some things that would have shaken her trust. Chad was supposed to be a business owner/playa. Was his behavior because he was so in love he lost the ability to effectively communicate?

What happened with Chad and his mother? Did all the drama end in a hug? Did he never talk to her again during the rest of the book? Her SO never made an appearance? He and his sisters never touch base to see how things went with the conversation? That situation felt unfinished. I have no problem with his mother's relationship, but why bring it up if you are not going to address how the relationship and the SO affects Chad's life? I don't believe there was a mention of the SO having a name.

Also, when did it come up in the book about Taya's parentage? When was it discussed about the trauma her mother endured? Where was the discussion about her male parental unit? How did she find out about her parental grandmother? I got the sense that something had happened to Taya's paternal grandmother, but Taya didn't slow down enough to let her clearly tell her story. How was Kenny involved in the situation? Then it pops up with Kenny and Taya's mother being together. When did that happen? Then the pregnancy thing.

There was entirely TOO much going on in this book where no previous explanations were given. There was no foundation laid to make the issues that came across further into the book clear.

Luckily, the book was in KU, so I could download it and look for the answers. I didn't find them. If the answers were in the first book and it was necessary to read it first, something in the description should have said that. I listened to the first book, and don't recall hearing ANY of the information I now am questioning.

I could continue to go on with questions that I felt were unanswered. (Like what did Chad say in his note? That seemed fairly important to me.)

Now I really will stop. I don't enjoy reading a book that I feel leaves me hanging with so many unanswered questions. Especially if the book does not end in a cliffhanger. As I was writing this review, I found myself getting more frustrated.

I will say the narration was on point. 5 stars! The story could have been interesting and even intriguing, but it fell short. Maybe 2.5 stars.

This book left me hanging with not enough information. I would advise that you read it and make your own determination. I may just be too picky.

The Fold 2- Chad took the lead- “Feather Effect"

My man, Chadwick Fold, had an eye-catching appeal that few women could resist. Even a famous singer and entertainer part of platinum artist Plus’s team fell under his spell. Taya was the face of The Crew, and her instant attraction to the PK (preachers’ kid) was evident. But, this pk was unlike any other you’ve ever met. Maybe you’ve met one, would you like to share the information with the class- okay, I didn’t think so? Anyway, in this Thou Shall Not Hide version, Chad, accustomed to hiding his heart and with great conviction, he hoped to always keep it safe. Chad knew the little lady he’d curved twice; he had requited feeling for. He hoped to avoid the attraction to keep his sense locked and tucked away. His heart had another opinion on the matter. Taya was a cutie patootie who was irresistible to Chad, even though he fought valiantly to keep her at arm's length.

The way Chad and Taya finally met on the same page and sang from the same hymnal was magical. The fact that this author can have a spiritual story and have some sensual moments and not cross the line is pure art, tastefully executed. The side story with the other Fold’s, including the Sr. Fold, blended effortlessly into this account. Jada and The Jet still moved with ease and prowess depicting their depths of love. Penny and Boogie always add to the story. I enjoy the way this family moves in tandem with the other. The Rev forgave his wife, as Chad had to meet the same challenge. The concurrent side story with Bre, Sabre, Jock, Kimi, and Kanika brought the drama factor to the tale. Taya’s mom Tashena was a whole treat. How’s she going to fight someone with a big old belly? You’ll see what I mean. Having Plus in the mix was an extra special treat. I’m clutching my pearls, waiting for the next

Frustrated & Disinterested

Hmmm 🧐, I’ve definitely read this book before? Which platform, I have no recollection🤷🏾‍♀️. However, this book’s content (similar to book 1“The Fold: Thou Shall Not Run) was likewise very familiar, except I didn’t recall the ending. Nonetheless, “The Fold: Thou Shall Not Hide was an okay read. Foremost, this book as a general observation needed character continuity, storyline and plot development. Thereafter, I actually had numerous questions regarding events in this book: When did Taya mother (Tashena) get involved (relationship & pregnant by Plus? So, Plus is Taya’s stepfather & employer? What was on the cassette ? Was Tashena raped?; Why was Taya’s biological/paternal grandmother relevant? Taya, received instant retribution jumping Kanika. But she could have suffered brain or spinal cord injuries or could have killed Kanika? There’s no code of conduct clause for band members on this tour? I was offended Taya’s actions were celebrated and glamorized. No fine, no suspension no punishment, no apology 🤨‼️) Hence, Chad & Taya’s infatuation, romance journey just didn’t make sense. This book, characters and storylines were all convoluted and frequently juvenile. …Frustrated & disinterested “The Fold” book 2 reader🤷🏾‍♀️😮‍💨🤦🏾‍♀️🤨‼️

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: NARRATION:5 stars, WRITING: 3 stars, OVERALL: 4 stars. I listened to the complete box set of The Folds, narrated by Wesleigh Siobhan and Jakobi Diem. These are my first books by this author. The premise of these books is that each one highlights the love story of one of three siblings. The siblings are preacher’s kids who are all saved, but worldly at the same time. While the stories themselves are good, the writing is weak in places. The author does a good job of creating chemistry between the main characters, but sometimes the backstory outshines the main story. For example the relationship between the parents throughout all 3 books, Taya’s whole chaotic life (in book 2), and the death of Damien’s baby mama (in book 3).

This is an example of narration elevating a book to the next level. I am a Jakobi Diem stan. I listened to this because I had just finished reading a heavy book and needed to get lost in his voice. He did not disappoint and neither does Wesleigh. The narration is SPOT ON, even in places the story is weak, the voice acting keeps you going.

*The Feather Effect...*
Sabrina has given us another gem! Chad and Taya were already piquing my interest in book one so I was excited to finally get into their story. I fell in love with Taya in Plus but meeting Chad I found him to be hilarious and highly confident if not a little bit cocky. The sweetness of Taya and the confidence of Chad was a perfect mix. "The Feather Effect" was definitely what they had and it was absolutely beautiful if not frustrating at times. Vibing with previous characters is always a good time my favorite being Bella with her cute self not to mention Kenny himself (with his fine ass). Now, before I end this let me say I f*cking LOVED Bre! She gave this story all the entertainment it needed I'm hoping to see more of her in the future. This is definitely a re-read for me while I wait for more from Mrs. Scales.

The feather effect

Whew... These Fold children are something else. Chad, a ladies man, was stopped in his tracks, by the beauty that is Taya. It has been said, that a man will change for the right woman. The woman meant for him. Chad, was feeling and doing foreign things, and didn't know why. Could it be love? Taya, a beautiful woman, who was sheltered by her mom; was naive about a lot in life. But, she knew that she wanted to get to know Chad. The connection between Chad and Taya, was electric! Loved Taya's friendship with Bre. She was so ratchet, and I was so here for it! Glad to catch up with Plus and Shena. Cannot wait to get to Penny's story. Great work! 👍👍👍

Overall enjoyed this one. As usual I really enjoyed the time in the church. Love their father and his on point word of the day!

My only complaint was the discrepancy in the timeline regarding when Taya and Chad first meet. In Jada’s book, it is mentioned at the beginning of the book that Chad meet Taya and a pic hit IG. In Chad’s book, that entire scenario of when Taya and Chad first meet is presented after Jada is engaged.

The book was still a good read, but timeline discrepancies always take me out of the moment of a book. It was such a weird mix up since it was the first thing covered in Jada’s book. I thought they would just re-acknowledge it and then fast forward to the present (once I realized she wasn’t doing a parallel timeline to match Jada’s).

Chadwick Fold loves and adores the women in his family…mother, sisters and 3 year old niece. Somehow, he hasn't managed to find love of his own, until he met R&B singer Taya. As much as they fought the the good fight, overcame the many obstacles, and tried to "just be friends"…something kept drawing them back to one another.

"There's nowhere to hide, when love is calling your name!"

I loved Plus and Tashena in this book, because they kept me laughing, with their nasty selves. Lol

The storyline was fluid and that plot twist was crazy. My favorite character was a cross between Chad and his niece, Boogie. The relationship between these two was so cute. Now, my least favorite characters were Jock and Kanika (heavy on Kanika). Overall, I loved this book and I highly recommend it.

Book 2 in The Fold series by Sabrina B Scales
Chad is the son of a minister and a playboy but a good guy.
On a night out he meets Taya a singer in a band that is making it name known.
I love that even though Chad is a playboy and not looking for love but the pull was too much.
Taya is a great character and I love that she strong independent but has a dark unhappy past that she struggles with.
Absolutely love this series it’s funny and soulful at same time.
It’s is based around a religious family with the father as a minister so there’s a lot of talk about god and surrounding church.
There also the N word which I’m not a fan of but thankfully it’s not said every page.

Thou Shall Come Thru... Girl!!! 😍😍😍

Chad was everything... I could end this review with that. The writing in Chad's voice was one of the best love stories I've read from the guy's perspective. Chad's vulnerability and drive to understand his feelings was refreshing. The additional insight into the Fold family's dynamics was interesting and a tease! Now Taya! That girl, it was nice seeing her growth as the story progressed. Sabrina Scales once again delivered that fire pen!!! Let me start praying about Penny...🤔😏😂

Chad & Taya- I loved their story. I think mostly because of the surprise appearance of an old favorite or two. The two were a prime example of the saying you never know when love will find you. Sometimes you meet your person and you connect on every level, but you may not be ready for it so you hide from it. This installment had so much more drama (revenge porn, mild physical violence) and intensity to it. Chad's dating style reminded me of a young me. (don't judge me) I loved the way he grappled with his feelings and that his siblings could read him so well. The sibling bond between the Fold children was humorous and real. The author did a good job of delivering a solid love story.

Captivating

This story is phenomenal. The characters are very entertaining and it keeps your attention from the beginning. Taya and Chad come into their own as individuals as they find each other. They question if it's love but ultimately discovers that it's no other thing except for love. I love Bre and Sabre. I love the supporting characters as well as the relationships between the different characters. This series is very captivating and I happily recommend it.

Taya and Chad, new love

This was a nice story of new love. I liked Taya and Chad. 'Thou Shall Not Hide' was well written with interesting characters and a story that flowed nicely. My complaint is that the ending made little sense. No spoiler, so I'll just say that if a man that professes to truly care for you, then takes off (literally) at your time of need, and then returns without a real explanation...he's probably not the man for you. Just sayin'.

Although Taya and Chad both annoyed me, I loved them together. Reading their love journey was filled with ups and downs. They both need to learn to communicate better, but I'm happy they found each other. I absolutely loved Bre and Tashena. I want more of Sabre. He seems interesting. This book makes me more curious about Plus, so I have to go back and read his book too. Looking forward to the 3rd installment about the Fold children!

I never want these books to end

I looooved getting both Tay and Chad's story. Now I can't wait for the next book in this series, but in all of this I wondered if Chad ever got to do another tattoo on her. Anyway, this was another great story by Sabrina. Im telling you you definitely want to read this book. .

So Intense

I couldn’t make myself speed read through this book 📖 if I wanted to! The journey and the intensity of this book 📖 had my world tilted! Chad and Taya are one of a kind! I truly enjoyed the journey they have embarked on! I could have used a few more chapters or another installment!

I can’t wait to read about Penny!

Very enjoyable read

Smh at the fallout caused by the revelation of hidden feelings--good, bad, and/or of the jealous type. There is some real life issues around love, friendship, and forgiveness. This book was very entertaining; I oohed, ahhed, awwwed and laughed out loud. And everybody needs a best friend like Bre, I'm just saying.

LAWWDDDD!!! -no pun intended-

This book was... I can't even formulate the proper words.

I'll just say that I felt like I was teetering the line of prayer and repentance, in the best way possible, the entire book.

AND Jakobi & Wesleigh.... GOOD LORDT! They make everything sound so good and enticing... be having the your panties just melting away!!!

Loved watching the growth

I loved this couple because it shows young people navigating love. When you’re completely dont have a clue what you’re doing but want to jump in anyway. Although mountains will form, climbing over them is worth it. Definitely ready to read the third sibling to see what’s really going on. Great series so far

Enjoyable read even though it dragged a bit but I love the change in Chad and how he realized that pursuing Taya would be a different task. Cute story about young love. I like Bri she was crazy but honest and I want to know more of her story. I loved the bond between Chad and his sisters. I can’t wait to get my fill of the Fold’s.
