They say opposites attract.

I never believed that until I met Abby.

I was an Ivy League student, the eldest son of an affluent family, living a life of luxury and rubbing elbows with D.C.'s elite. Sounds great, right?

Too bad prestige comes with a price.

When the expectations became too much, I decided to escape to the hills of West Virginia with my best friend for a summer of fun, some R & R and a little white water rafting. I wanted to lose myself in the outdoors, but instead found her—a petite waitress and all around spitfire—she knocked me off my game, making me want more than the casual, no strings attached relationships I was used to.

To me, she's not just another summer fling.

She's something that could last.

My thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
This is a sweet, well written young adult romance. Abby and Jacob are an adorable, passionate couple and I loved the interaction between them: their slow burn romance was worth the wait. Their hikes into the country were a fun read - and that make out scene under the waterfall was definitely steamy! At first, Abby comes across as plucky and very driven. She works two jobs in order to pay for college and is proud of her mixed Cherokee/Italian ancestry. Jacob comes across as a decent guy and their initial attraction turns into something much bigger than either of them could have expected from what they thought would be a short summer fling.
At the start of this book, I got the impression that Abby was certainly no wilting, inexperienced flower, so that her occasional shyness and tendency to blush during intimate moments towards the end seemed a bit out of character. I actually enjoyed this book, but was dismayed at the end to find a dreaded cliffhanger, and many loose ends left untied. My only spoiler alert is that cell phones, as I have always suspected, are the tool of the devil and we should back up all personal data. I rate this one a 3.9, just because Jacob makes such an attentive book boyfriend. (I hope the author let's us know soon about a sequel.)

2 bored ★★✩✩✩

Well, it wasn't a complete waste of my time, but it was close. At 50 % I still didn't understand the point of the story. It's one of these romance novels were nothing except the romance is happening, and I think I've outgrown this phase. I would have probably been into that like 1.5 years ago but those times are over. The lack of excitement just bored the hell out of me. There were also some general issues and errors within the book, that made me roll my eyes a lot.

The story itself feels pointless.
I've already hinted at that above. I literally asked "Oh, so I'm supposed to watch you two fall in love and have sex, with no actual plot whatsoever?" The love story itself is also kind of boring.

"I saw her and I wanted her".
It comes across like a "love at first" sight kind of thing and I am just not in for that. At 11%, after they exchanged like 5 sentences while she was waiting his table, she says this about him, while they are out for drinks:
I have never felt this way about another guy before

And I just thought:

This is not how we act around S/Os. People are trash and you gotta be more careful with your feelings. You may find somebody likeable at first sight. But DO NOT GIVE YOUR HEART AWAY AFTER A COUPLE OF SHOTS AND SOME SLY GRINS.

Drinking and Driving is not okay.
You do not drive after you've had 2 single shots and 1 double. It doesn't actually happen but the matter is still not handled properly. She doesn't drive home because it shows that she drank alcohol, and not because she drank it. See the difference? This is YA, people. Young people are reading this FFS.

A Wolf-Hybrid is not satisfied with a hike once a week.
This was seriously laughable. The main character apparently found a wolf-hybrid puppy 5 years prior to the plot. And that sure as fuck comes as a surprise because she leaves that full-grown wolf along with the impaired grandma for several days. I know for a fact that she wouldn't have made it through the first week with this mindest with most dogs. Especially hybrids like this need a lot of exercise, attention and are very troublesome when left to be bored.

What's happening.
Abby is juggling two jobs, a grandma and (surprise) a wolf-hybrid to make ends meed. On one of her jobs, she meets Jacob and Luke, the first of which highly agrees with her out-of-control libido. Long story short: they exchange like 5 sentences and she's got it bad for him.

They spend a lot of time together over the next several days and I can sure see him as the hottie he is supposed to be. (Every allegedly hote book dude is Alexei from Stranger Things Season 3 in my head rn because, damn, he fine)

And, NO, I am not sorry.

And this is Luke, in case ya'all are wondering:

For those fine people among you who've already watched Season 3, but yourself together!!

If you want to read something really light, I suppose you can give this a try. It was not totally terrible, I just increasingly catch myself wanting some more activity going on in my brain while reading.

Jacob, the son of a senator, has had a privileged life for as long as he can remember. He currently attends a top-notch university and nothing short of perfection is expected of him by his parents. Jacob needs a reprieve from the constant pressures put on him so he and his buddy decide to take a 2-week retreat to the Western Virginian mountains. Jacob was expecting a fun vacation with one of his best friends, but he wasn’t expecting to meet an emerald-eyed brunette on his fist day there.

Abby works two jobs during the summer to help pay for her college tuition. Since neither of her parents are in the picture, Abby has relied on herself for years to get by and needs both her jobs if she doesn’t want decades worth of student debt. Being a zip lining tour guide isn’t as exciting as it sounds, but Abby’s day takes a turn for the better when she meets a blue-eyed boy with a beautiful smile.

As fate would have it, Jacob eats dinner at Rosie’s—the restaurant where Abby waitresses. Jacob is completely enamored by Abby’s presence and after a night of drinks and dancing, it’s clear Abby is just as attracted to Jacob as he is to her.

Abby and Jacob couldn’t be more different—they come from two completely opposite worlds—but they fall into a whirlwind romance. Jacob is set to go home in 2-weeks, which only sets the up for heartbreak. But even still, they can’t stop from falling hard, no matter the consequences.

Something That Could Last is Ashley Cade’s premiere new adult romance novel. I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet and steamy romance between Jacob and Abby—they’re both such tender hearted and relatable people, which kept me invested in the outcome of their relationship. This has all the ingredients for an enjoyable new adult romance: college-aged kids who don’t have life figured out, sexual tension galore, angst, and heartbreak. What more could you ask for? The book left off on somewhat of a cliffhanger, so I assume there will be a book two, which I look forward to reading—4/5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Ashley Cade for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have always been a sucker for the rich “powerful” men and “small town” girl trope and this book definitely fulfilled my book needs. Once I started I wasn’t able to put it down. I hope to read more of their story in the future.

I liked Jacob and I liked Abby. Luke meh not so much and Tiff was a laugh. This book covers two weeks and we see the relationship build between Abby & Luke. Then he leaves after his holiday back to a world that is so different to Abby's. Then the book ends. I assume there will be a follow up as there is a lot left unresolved plus what is happening between Ethan and Tiff?? I felt this book set things up nicely, I wanted more was taken by surprise that this was not a standalone. I will want to read the follow up, though there is no mention of a second book on Goodreads, as I want to know what happens between Abby and Jacob.

Thank you to NetGalley for the copy.

I had the pleasure of reading this sweet and steamy debut novel by Ashley Cade. I truly enjoyed spending my time getting to know Abby and Jacob in this small-town new adult romance. The story was laced with intriguing characters, a bit of drama, some laughable moments and some sizzling hot sexy times.

Jacob is the son of a senator and has lived a very privileged life. He has never wanted for anything, but with that life comes a lot of pressure to live up to certain expectations. Needing an escape, he and his best friend take off on a two week vacation to West Virginia. It's time for whitewater rafting, zip-lining, fishing and some all around fun. What he didn't expect was to meet a green-eyed beauty who would quickly capture his heart.

Abby didn't exactly have a picture perfect life growing up. At an early age, she lost one of her parents and the other one didn't deal well, turning to alcohol and drugs. So she and her brother ended up being raised by their grandma. Now at 21 years of age, she is working two jobs just to put herself through college. By day, she is a zip-line tour guide and by night, a waitress at her aunt's restaurant. She doesn't live a very exciting life, but things start looking up when she meets a certain handsome stranger.

I absolutely loved Abby and Jacob together. They came from such different worlds, but they didn't let that hold them back. They were both kind, down to earth and easily relatable. I loved their relationship-loved their interactions. I love how fiercely Jacob loved and protected her. He was absolutely swoon-worthy. What I didn't care for was how things were left unresolved at the end. I would really like to see how the rest of their story unfolds, so hopefully we will have a follow up book here in the near future.

In all, Something That Could Last was a delightful debut novel with an aptly fitting title. This small-town romance is overflowing with humor, heart and heat. I smiled. I laughed. I swooned. And I fell head over heels in love. This is definitely a romance that you will not want to miss.

Initially, I was drawn to this book by the gorgeous cover and then the blurb reeled me in. You are immediately thrown into the life of a young woman named Abby who is living with her grandmother, working two jobs and sending herself through college on scholarships and grants. She works hard for everything and has experienced tremendous loss in her life. Abby meets up with Jacob and his friend Luke who are vacationing in West Virginia. Not only does Jacob have money, he is also the son of a prominent politician and lives a life very opposite from Abby's. Even so, they connect and Jacob enjoys spending time with her. She finds out he is a sensitive guy who has experienced loss as well. Also, he hasn't followed the path his parents laid out for him and is pursuing engineering instead of law. He has his own dreams to help people in areas of the world with poor drinking water. He definitely isn't what she would have expected.

Knowing that their time is limited before he leaves to return home, Jacob and Abby spend the majority of the two weeks that he is in West Virginia together. When she is working, he and his friend, Luke do their extreme sports such as white water rafting, etc. There are some other plot lines tucked in the story but I don't want to ruin any of it by sharing too much.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story. I felt like the title of the book was a perfect description of Jacob and Abby's relationship - - they have Something That Could Last -- if they can just make it all work out. That said, there were some places in the book where I, personally, felt like there was too much detail about unimportant things and it caused the book to drag for me a little. However, it wasn't enough to discourage me from reading the story. It is very evident from the way that everything was left unresolved at the end that a followup book is forthcoming. I will definitely look forward to reading it but would tolerate the wait much better if the sequel was mentioned somewhere with at least a tentative date. Basically....Momma needs to know there's gonna be a book two y'all! Come on and help a girl out!!

Something That Could Last is the debut novel by Author Ashley Cade.
Let's start with the obvious first, shall we? I love the cover! I love the dreamy- rustic romance vibe it gives off.

Second, I enjoyed Abby and Jacob's story. Was it amazing? hmm..not really.
Something That Could Last has an 'insta-love' vibe but ends up being a slow burn kinda romance that is sweet.

Here's the thing I am a little on the fence about, I felt like the storyline was rehearsed and not very 'organic'...if that makes sense. I admit that I kinda felt myself phasing out in between but overall, I enjoyed it.

Something That Could Last is a delightful debut novel that does end on a cliffhanger.

Something That Could Last is a really solid debut from a new author. It’s a steamy new adult romance taking place over a 2-week time period during the summer. I thought it was very well written. Abby and Jacob meet when he comes to her town for vacation. They have an instant connection, and proceed to have a brief love affair. They are pretty much opposites, with him being a Senator’s son living a life of privilege and her having a completely different upbringing. I did struggle with the characters in the beginning. I couldn’t connect with them until much later in the book. But, I mostly had a hard time with how fast their relationship progressed. It does take place within 2 weeks, but everything was happening much too quick in my opinion. It does end in a cliffhanger, but it’s not a real shocking or painful cliffhanger. I still plan to pick up book two when it comes out, because I did end up really invested in these characters in the end.

The book was fine. What ruined it was the ending. It was extremely rushed. Literally ended when it shouldn’t have, the story was not anywhere near complete.

When I saw this cover on Netgalley I was intrigued, and after I read the book description I knew I wanted to read this book. I was in need of a good romance novel, so when I was approved to read ‘Something That Could Last’ I couldn’t be more excited. I started reading as fast as possible.

In ‘Something That Could Last’ we meet Abby. Abby’s life has been hard the last view years and she has to work two jobs almost every day to make sure she can finish college and pay for her other expanses. The last thing she needs is the distraction of a guy in her life. Especially since most guys she meets only seem to want one thing. But when Abby meets Jacob she is blown away by him. Not only because he is extremely handsome, but also because he is kind and very chivalrous. But Jacob is not like Abby. Jacob’s family has a lot of money and influence. And how can two people who come from two very different worlds ever work out?

From the moment I started reading, I really loved ‘Something That Could Last’. The two main characters Abby and Jacob were really fun to get to know and I just loved those two. I loved Abby because I could just easily imagine me being friends with her. She works extremely hard, loves her grandmother and brother and just has a very big heart. And Jacob.. well.. He really is a swoon worthy character. Handsome, kind, chivalrous and totally taken with Abby. What I loved most about him was the fact that he was from such a rich family, but was just a normal nice guy and he didn’t want people to like him because of his money.

The romance between Abby and Jacob was just really good. Butterflies in your belly kind of good! I loved every moment between them in this book and I couldn’t stop reading. Although they just met, they both felt that this ‘thing’ between them was much more than they ever imagined. And I could feel every emotion right along with them.

There were also some other characters in this book that I would like to know more about. Abby’s best friend Tiff for one. There is still a lot of mystery about Tiff’s character, and I really hope there will be a story about her too.

And then the ending in this book.. Wow! I started worrying when I read on my kindle that I had only a view minutes left before the book ended. But nothing could prepare me for this ending… I just need to know what will happen next!! It’s such an open and unsatisfying ending! But in a good way! And I just don’t know what to do with myself. When will I be able to read what happens next between Abby and Jacob??

‘Something That Could Last’ is definitely a great, romantic story that I loved from the beginning till end.

***I received this novel as an eARC from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.***

I was so excited to get a copy of this book to review. The New Adult genre is currently my obsession. However, not all of the content within it is something that speaks to me. Thankfully, Something That Could Last really hits all the sweet spots for me. Also, appropriate amounts of steam and sexy time.

Abby is a small town girl with plans for the summer. Plan to make some money for college and to take care of her grandmother and keep her head down.

Jacob is on a 2 week vacation from the high expectations in his Senator Son life. He and his best friend, Luke, find a small town and are ready for some adventures. When they decide to do some thrill seeking and go zip lining, they run into Abby and Jacob is instantly attracted to her.

Their attraction is so intense that it scares them, but it didn't scare me. It delighted and excited me. Abby was so sweet, yet she wasn't a push over. This novel is full of sexy consent moments. I love how New Adult has made consent so sexy, really, I mean it. I adore that in a romance and this story was made so much richer for it. Jacob is such a gentleman and compared to his friend Luke, he is a freaking saint.

Its really hard to pick out things that I don't like about this story. There isn't a ton of plot in this one until the last 50 pages or so, but I don't want that to seem like a detriment, I was so into them building their relationship. They are both such cool people and I want more time with them. Which I assume will happen since this had a heart-stopping cliffhanger. Like, I screamed out loud in my Starbucks!

I am sitting here just quietly dying for the sequel.

*There is a trigger warning for sexual assault and regular assault.*

I give this 5 stars, I wasn't expecting to do that, but I just can't think of any reason to knock it.

Something That Could Last by Ashley Cade this is the story of Abby and Jacob.
Jacob is the rich son of a Senator that goes to the best schools but takes a break to head to West Virginia where he ends up meeting Abby. Abby is totally different from him and the girls that he usually runs into. Abby is holding down two jobs to pay for her college and has only ever been able to depend on herself. But the sparks fly and feelings become engaged. Enjoyed their story and can't wait for the next part.

This is my first book by Cade and I really liked her writing style! I love the drive that Abby has. She wants to go to school and works to make it happen! I love how she is proud of her heritage. I really enjoyed Jacob. I thought that he was sweet and I liked how he was trying to figure out what life is. I loved how they are two people from two different worlds and how neither were looking for the other. I thought that the interactions between Abby and Jacob were sweet and fitting. This book was a total slow burn in a fast paced environment but it worked perfectly. I am curious to see what the plans are for the next book! Will Abby and Jacob story continue or will we get a different couple?

Something That Could Last is good read. Jacob is from money. He's escaping to West Virginia with his friend (Luke) to enjoy the great outdoors. Even though Jacob is from money, he's a good guy. He's not snobby at all. He's nice and sweet. I really like him. Abby is a sweet down to earth girl. Neither is looking for love when they meet. They have a great connection. This one is a sweet slow burn romance. There story had me hooked from beginning to end. The ending surprised me, I wasn't expecting that type of ending. I was expecting a HEA but instead I got left wanting more. I can't wait to read the next one.

This is the first book I have read by Ashley and I absolutely adored how she wrote this book with these amazing characters!

You couldn’t have asked for better characters to fall in love. Abby and Jacob are from two very different worlds but that didn’t stop the universe from bringing them together.

Abby worked hard so that she could achieve her dream of going to college! Abby works two jobs to help pay for and achieve her dream And being a zip line instructor isnt all that glamorous. But it helps pay her tuition so that she isn’t in huge amounts of debt. Although her parents aren’t around she is sure to take care of herself the only way she knows. Being Cherokee/Italian Abby knows it’s something to be proud of!

Jacob is the son of a senator and has always had a privileged life to say the least. His parents expect nothing less than for him to be perfect Since he attends a top notch university. He needs to get away from all the pressure so him and a friend of his go on a two week vacation to the West Virginia mountains. Jacob knew he was going to have an amazing vacation with a friend but a brunette that took his breath away was more than he ever imagined.

Jacob eats at the restaurant that Abby is waitressing and knows that this meeting is one of the best things to happen to him.

This was was such a sweet, steamy slow burn romance in a fast paced era but I loved every single word of it! I couldn’t get enough and I didn’t want it to end! I can’t wait to see what else Ashley has in store for this series!

First: what a beautiful cover. It caught my eye and I could not resist it.

Abby is a lovely heroine. Living with her grandmother, working to jobs to be able to study. She was quite a character. During one of her jobs she meets Jacob, who is traveling with his friend Luke and is immediately taken by Abby. For two weeks Abby and Jacob have a whirlwind romance, before Jacob has to get back to his own privileged world. There worlds couldn't be further apart. Jacob is the son of a senator and has his life mapped out for him. You can't help but root for these two!

I was a bit miffed to find the book ends on a cliffhanger and there is no date set for a sequel. I did not expect it as it was not mentioned. I do think it is worth the wait, but I wished I had known before requesting.

There is nothing to do but wait for the sequel!

This was a slow burn, new adult, sweet romance. Abby is a good complex character and we get to see all sides of her throughout this story. From sweet and unsure to bold and sassy. Jacob is a swoon worthy hero as he never expects to meet someone like Abby but know that she is "his one" and will do everything to show her that he cares.

Love happens in 14 days and it is really sweet to see all of the ways that Jacob is willing to go to woo Abby. His life is so different than hers but they just click. When they have to separate both are devastated and more obstacles are placed between them.

This doesn't end in a cliffhanger, per se. The story just ends and I felt like I was just left hanging. I read that the story continues, which makes me really happy because I am now invested in Abby and Jacob's story and I need to find out how it ends.

What happens when you met someone that you aren’t supposed to fall in love with? Jacob is a Senator's son, and needs to get out of the limelight for a bit. When he and his best friend Luke decide to take a few weeks to hang out, they end up in a small West Virginia town where they meet Abby and her best friend Tiff. Tiff and Luke of course get along well, but it’s Abby and Jacob that really enjoy spending their time together even though they know that Jacob eventually has to go back to his real life.

I absolutely loved these two characters. Their chemistry was perfect and there is really no other way to describe it. Tiff and Luke were great secondary characters, but I’m glad this wasn’t their story. I would definitely recommend this book to just about anyone!

Abby and Jacob meet while he's in town to get away from the hustle and bustle that is his life. He's in the public eye with his father being in the public eye in poitics, so he got away her little town. Abby is a hard working, sweet character who wants to live a good and happy life. They're opposite of one another but they have this pull with each other they can't ignore. I love reading the friends antics. Their friends were quite funny and quite the oppsite of each other.

This book does end in a cliffhanger. I'm so ready to read their HEA. Their fast, sweet love for each other makes you giddy and you want them to to work out so badly.

This is a new author to me but I will certainly be looking out for her work in the future. Abby and Jacob are total opposites as Jacob comes from a privileged life, where as Abby works two jobs to help pay for her college tuition. This is an engaging story which is sweet, steamy, humorous, and is a slow burn romance with witty banter thrown in. I was intrigued and hooked throughout and look forward to the sequel. I recommend for all readers.

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

While this was a good book, it just sort of ended which left me a little unsure. It wasn't bad in any way. I loved it but wish there was more. However, since this is book one I'm certain more will follow.

This follows Jacob and Abby and the two weeks they spend together. The title really says it all. You can see so much potential in their relationship. Abby is living with her grandmother and working two jobs to put herself through college along with grants and scholarships. Her life hasn't been an easy one and she could have been so bitter about it but wasn't. I liked Abby as a character. She is the kind of young woman you hope your daughter grows up to be.

Jacob and his friend Luke are vacationing in West Virginia when they meet Abby. Jacob has experience loss like Abby has but he is also a senator's son. He's a really sweet guy who has dreams of helping people with poor drinking water in the world. That is one thing I loved about this book. It was just how real these two people are. Jacob is not what you would expect form a senator's son honestly.

Once inside, we head for the bar. The floor beneath my feet vibrates with the heavy bass thumping through the sound system. Jacob turns to me, and though I can see his lips moving, I can’t hear what he says over the din of too loud music blasting from the speakers.               “What?” I yell back.               He leans down, his mouth a mere inch from my ear, and I breathe in his intoxicating smell. I close my eyes and bask in his heady, masculine scent and the sound of his smooth, deep voice. Our bodies are so close, but not quite touching. Every cell in my body is on high alert, anticipation of physical contact consuming my senses.               “So, how about that shot of whiskey?” he asks with the sexy timbre that makes my stomach clench and my pulse accelerate.               “That sounds great.” I’m going to need some liquid courage for this.               Jacob orders me a shot of Crown and I immediately down it in one gulp, earning a chuckle from him. I'm going to need another just to still my nerves.               “Maybe I should've gotten you a double.”               I swallow nervously and straighten my shoulders. Here goes nothing. “Maybe you should have,” I reply, attempting a seductive tone.

Jacob grins deviously at my sassy response and his eyes darken with desire. Heat floods my lower belly and between my thighs. He hasn't even touched me yet, and already my body is responding to him. I have never felt this way about a guy before. I'm no virgin, but desire this strong is uncharted territory for me.               Jacob turns to the bartender and orders me another shot, a double this time, and a beer for himself. I drain my glass in two big gulps, the smooth liquid going down easier than the cheap whiskey I usually drink. Jacob watches me over the brim of his bottle, his lips curling up on each side as he takes a swig. I reluctantly pull my eyes from his when I feel someone grab my arm.

“I wanna dance.” Tiffany has a cup filled with amber liquid. She's drank most of it and I hear Luke ordering another from the bartender. I hope she doesn't get so drunk tonight that we have to carry her out. It wouldn't be the first time, and it certainly won't be the last. She drains the rest of her drink and discards her cup before Luke hands her a new one.

“Oh, come on, dancing queen. Let's hit the floor,” I tell her. She squeals, bouncing on the balls of her feet before grabbing me by the hand and pulling me onto the dance floor. I'm already starting to feel the effects of the whiskey I consumed just a few moments ago. My mind and body relax a little as warmth from the liquor spreads through my veins. I begin to move to the music, letting the rhythm guide the sway of my hips and the motion of my arms. Tonight, the DJ is playing mostly pop and hip-hop, the best kind of music to dance to.

Tiff and I dance for a couple of songs as she sips her drink. At the end of the second song, I glance over my shoulder to find the guys leaned up against the bar watching us, a bottle of beer in each of their hands. Jacob's eyes burn into mine. He’s watching me intently and I can tell he likes what he sees. His intense observation of my body moving to the music sends a shiver up my spine. I wonder what his hands would feel like grasping my hips, in my hair, all over me. I tear my gaze away from him and turn to Tiff when she yells my name.               “I need another drink. And so do you,” she insists, pointing her finger into my chest. “Come on.” Once again, she grabs my hand and leads me where she wants me to go.               “Need another drink, beautiful?” Luke asks her, his self-assured grin never leaving his face.               “Why, yes I do. Thanks, handsome.” I'm just buzzed enough that this interaction makes me giggle. Tiff turns to glare at me, but her spirits are instantly lifted when Luke hands her another Long Island.               “Wow, that was fast,” she exclaims.               “I went ahead and ordered it when you started back this way. You looked like you needed a refreshment.” His cocky smirk is almost charming. Almost.

“Awwwww, you're so thoughtful,” Tiff draws out, pressing herself up against his chest. Gag! She knows he’s trying to run his game on her, and she’s encouraging him. Luke may be a player, but he just met the coach.               “You want another shot of Crown?” Jacob's question is a welcome distraction from these two and their very public displays of affection.               “Yeah,” I reply. “Oh, and just a single this time.” I'll eventually have to drive Tiff and myself home, so I need to take it easy on the booze. Besides, I haven’t eaten in over eight hours, and this top-shelf liquor is working fast. When he hands me my drink a few minutes later, I thank him and down the potent elixir in one gulp. He watches me with an intensity in those icy blue eyes that makes me feel naked and vulnerable. It's an unsettling feeling, but I kind of like it.               “I'm ready to dance again. Let's go.” Tiff grabs my hand and leads me back to the dance floor. There are hot, writhing bodies everywhere, and we have to shoulder our way through the crowd to make it back to our spot.

We're three songs in this time when I feel hands on each side of my waist. I start to turn around to see which one of these assholes is grabbing me without invitation when he leans in and speaks into my ear.               “Abby,” he breathes my name. This one word breaks my resolve to be a good girl and not get involved with this handsome stranger. I close my eyes and lean into him. I hear his quick intake of breath before his body molds to fit mine, the sculpted muscles of his chest and abdomen pressing against my back. He trails his fingers up my arm, leaving a searing path of heat in their wake. I can't suppress the shudder that moves through my body as a result. I am lost to his touch and all I can hope is that it never ends.
