Half-elf, half-human, Tallian lives with dwarves and knows little about his birth parents. After his adopted brother runs away, hundreds of shadow bats decimate his village, and Meerkesh, Tallian’s adopted father reveals the truth about how he came to live with the dwarves in the Furin Mountains. Betrayed by the only brother he has ever known, Tallian and the dwarves flee from Fearoc, the evil elf who controls Luminess. Against what seems to be impossible odds, dwarves, elves, dragons, and men unite against Fearoc in hopes of freeing Luminess.
I really enjoyed Dragons Ascendents. I felt like I was there in the pages with Tillian! Had some unexpected twist to it that kept me wanting to hurry an get to the end. Can't wait till the next book so I can see what happens!

Dragon Ascendants (Luminess Legends Book 1) By: Paul E. Vaughn 5 out of 5 stars
The story Dragon Ascendants (Luminess Legends Book 1) by Paul E. Vaughn is a paranormal/fantasy book. This is a story that I enjoyed reading and didn’t want to put it down until the final page. It includes mystery, danger, dragons, and magic. It is the story of Tallian who was adopted and then comes to find out the truth about who he really is. He starts to understand the abilities that he has been born with and is determined to protect those he cares for. Tallian is a character that I grew to love with each chapter. He is kind, compassionate, and has a sense of responsibility. He also feels guilt about events that are happening. His character grows and changes as the story progresses. There is also the character of Fearoc. He is a threat to all of Luminess and is very evil. Death, darkness, and destruction are what his actions bring. Will Tallian and the other inhabitants of Luminess unite and be successful in defeating Fearoc? There are many characters that are introduced in this story that I enjoyed reading about. There are dwarves, elves, men, and dragons. They include Meerkesh, who is Tallian’s adopted father. He is well-liked among his people and respected by others. I liked the attention to detail that is given to the world of Luminess. You feel like you are traveling right along with the characters and seeing what they are. This is the first book I have read by the author. Paul E. Vaughn has created an amazing story with characters that you will not soon forget. It is also the first book in a series and I can’t wait to read the next one.
a great read about family. living among dwarves in the Furin Mountains, Talian has always thought he was different. when his father Meerkesh reveals his true parentage, his whole world is turned upside down. finding himself on the run from the evil lord Fearoc and his army of shadowbats, he and his family must survive dangers and magic. but will they be able to escape their fate at the hands of Lord Fearoc, or will Talian be too late? a great read. well develop plot with twists and turns that I ust couldn't put down. well developed characters such as Talian struggling to deal with a new identity but still wanting to learnor Meerkesh being a good father while leading his people or Brisker as a fun friend giving the humour the book needed. an excellent creepy villain that was written just right. I loved the sense of family in the novel, as one family on this adventure, all sticking together and supporting and caring for each other no matter what. and also the sense of equality between men, elves and dwarves in respect regardless of race which is often not the case in other fantasy works I loved the visual detail throughout the novel such as in the city of Caskin or the elves kingdom with magic and nature in a sense of wonder. I loved the sense of nature in the forests and mountains. I loved the fantasy elements such as the dwarves, elves, and the dragons vibrant colours and personalities was a brilliant addition. the magic was spellbinding every time. overall, a brilliant read and I would give it five stars.
Dragon Ascendants (Luminess Legends Book 1) by Paul E. Vaughn is a epic high fantasy tale of magic, elves, dwarves and of course, dragons!
This was my first read by this author, so I was going in not knowing what I was going to get. I don't read high fantasy as much as I use to, but my standards are high. It's all about the world building with these stories, and I have to say Paul E. Vaughn not only nailed it, but he transported me to a epic magical world where anything could happen. The writing and tone matched the detail world, and the plot moved at a steady, yet fast paces. Making you lost time and just get lost in this mythical world.
Our MC Tallian, was an great character. Strong, king, considerate. He had steady growth, thought things through, but most of all he had his priorities straight. This drove the plot forward, and kicked that epic story into high gear. I liked how he wasn't portrayed as a brewing alpha male. This added something special to him, and really made him shine as the lead character.
Take my high recommendation and my word, that this story is worth your time and energy. It has a bit of everything that you love about high epic fantasies. The world building, like I said, is marvelous. So rich and full, you feel like you're there, walking along side Tallian and his crew. I have high hops for this series, and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book.
I give Dragon Ascendants (Luminess Legends Book 1) by Paul E. Vaughn, 4 stars.
Tallian has been raised by dwarves for as long as he can remember. He is much taller and looks nothing like them, but they accepted him from day one and he always felt at home here. But he never knew about his birth family. When events happen and the people he loves are attacked, he will learn just exactly who he really is and what lengths he will go to to save his friends and family. Little does he know the journey he has ahead of him and the trials and tragedy he must endure.
This is a wonderful fantasy book with dwarves, dragons, elves, and adventure. It is written in a style that is for all ages, although some of the violence may be a little much for middle grade children. Honestly, this book is a little rough in places, but the story itself is quite good and interesting and I have faith in the author's growth in books to come. The growth we see both in Tallian and the other characters is wonderful. They are very engaging and again I look forward to seeing more of them in the future. The ending of this book is quite amazing and there are surprises along the way to keep you engaged too.
If you are a lover of dragons and fantasy, this book is for you.
Dragon Ascendants (Luminess Legends Book 1) by Paul E. Vaughn 4 out of 5 stars
Dragon Ascendants is the first book of Luminess Legends Book by Paul E. Vaughn is a paranormal/fantasy book. I had a hard time reading this story because some of the words were a jumble so I hope this is fixed. What I could read of this book was really good and I think I fell a little in love with Tillian. Tallian is half -elf, half-human, and lives with dwarves and knows little about his birth parents. After his adopted brother runs away, hundreds of shadow bats decimate his village, and Meerkesh, Tallian’s adopted father reveals the truth about how he came to live with the dwarves in the Furin Mountains. When he is betrayed by the only brother he has ever known, Tallian and the dwarves flee from Fearoc, the evil elf who controls Luminess. Against what seems to be impossible odds, dwarves, elves, dragons, and men unite against Fearoc in hopes of freeing Luminess. There are many twist and turns for Tallian and secrets he will uncover. Can Tallian help save his people? Will They defeat the Fearoc and have a happily ever after? I love paranormal books and thought this would be a great read and it wasn’t in the parts of the book that I could read. By Tracy
This is one of those epic fantasy tales. There are dragons, elves, dwarves and humans who must come together to defeat the evil Fearoc. Fearoc was an elf who made a mistake and was shunned and banished by his breathren. Hurt and angry, he became an almighty evil that has terrorized Luminess ever since.
Our hero of the story, Tallian, grew up and was raised working in the mines with the dwarves. All grown up, the leader Meerkesh finally tells him who he is and why Fearoc is after him. A war is starting again but will Tallian and his friends be able to defeat Fearoc this time?
The author spins a wonderful fantasy and pays close attention to details. Sometimes it was a little too much for me. Everything that the characters did, even walking from hut to hut, was described. It allowed you to really picture the story in your head but, for me, it made the story long. The build up was good but it took too long to get to the action. Don’t let this stop you from reading the book because if you like books with many different species taking up a cause to battle evil then you will really enjoy this story.
Dragon Ascendants is the first book in the Luminess Legends Series by Paul E. Vaughn. This is an epic fantasy, full of dragons, elves, dwarves, mythical creatures, magic, adventure, action, villainous foe, drama, danger…. and much more. This was a great story- wonderfully written and full of spellbinding details. The world building was superb, realistic and believable. The storyline was unpredictable, with twists and surprising developments that added an extra layer and elements of interest. There were a lot of characters, who were really well developed and fully realised individuals. Tallen, in particular, was fantastic and he was very likeable. He was a character who drew me into the story and made me want to know where this story would lead. I was captivated and read the whole book in one sitting. …”the terror of what is to come”…… the storyline continues into the next book, leaving us on somewhat of a cliffhanger- so I will definitely be reading the next book to find out what happens.
I hovered between 4 and 5 stars on this review and after pondering for a minute, decided it was absolutely a 5 star review for me.
I've been obsessed with dragons every since reading "Dolphins of Pern" so I was anxious to read this book. I was not disappointed.
This is one of those wonderful world building stories. We learn why dwarves have such long hair and beards, how things are named and so much more. The way this is written is so visually appealing. There is a scene where Tallian and Emerald are twisting and turning and spinning and zipping and I was jealous. I wanted to ride that beautiful creature.
This story is full of emotion and magical creatures and fears and traps and suspense "The path is clear. Too clear,...I have a feeling we have a very tough fight waiting for us at the end of the path. Be prepared for anything."
This book ends in such a way that I shook my Kindle to see if more pages would show up. They did not and I look forward to reading more of this wonderfully crafted story.
Dragon Ascendants by Paul E Vaughn is the first book in the sliminess Legends series. A well written fantasy story of elves, dwarves, dragons and men this book will keep you reading until the end. Tallian doesn’t know who his really parents are. Half elf, half man he has lived his whole life with the dwarves. How he came to be with them be isn’t sure, he just knows that he did. But when his adopted brother runs away and the truth is revealed it changes everything. Faced with great betrayal Tallian finds himself fleeing for his life and then taking a stand to fight for what he believes in.
I really enjoyed this book. It is the first that I have read by this author and I found it to be a well developed story with great characters. The story was engaging and kept me reading. It has also left me interested in the next book which I like. A great start to what I am hoping will be an equally great series.
Dragon Ascendants is the first novel in the Luminess Legends Trilogy by Paul E. Vaughn. This is my first novel by this author.
Growing up with dwarves in the Furin Mountains, Tallian has always thought he was different. Until his father Meerkesh informs him of his true parentage his world turns upside down. Now he is on the run from an evil lord by the name of Fearoc. Will Taillan be able to escape Fearoc?
I really enjoyed this story. It was like a wild ride with adventure, and discover who you are really are and putting both the life you previous had the life you are starting to figure out together.
Talligan was a great character with realistic development and emotions that just came off the page.
This novel was filled with alot of twist and turns that left me on the edge of my seat.
With its amazing word building, great characters and plot, this novel will stay with me until I have the sequel.
I love dragons and all stories with them in. I also love finding new authors and this fits both categories. This book is an action packed adventured filled book. I like the unique world that this author has created and the twists in the story fill it with just enough drama and adventure to keep you glued to the pages.
This book is a great start to the story of Tallian. I found myself really getting interested as the story began to unfold to find out just why Tallian was not only with the drawves but how he came to be there. I found that the complex relationship between him and Killmesh was quite relate-able to normal sibling/adopted sibling rivalry. I am really excited to be able to read more of this series and more of this author as it is a breath of fresh air and is quickly making its way to my top ten favorite series.
Dragon Ascendants, Luminess Legends Book 1 by Paul E. Vaughn 4 out of 5 stars This is the start of a new series from a fantastic author. Like many paranormal fantasy books, there is a lot of intrigue and action, but this book starts off fast from the first page. First we have Tallian who had been adopted, and upon learning the truth behind of who and what he really is, struggles with the responsibility that comes with it. His character is both complex and simple at the same time, kind and compassionate, yet demanding and hard when necessary. Fearoc on the other hand, is the dark to Tallian’s light, everything that is bad, is Fearoc. The dialogue within this story is very well thought out. The story development is fast paced and the detail to the environment is very vivid. Lovers of the paranormal will really love this book!
Dragon Ascendants (Luminess Legends Book 1) by Paul E. Vaughn has all the makings of an awesome fantasy book and more. Vaughn has a way with his characters and scenery descriptions are off the charts good. He gives you enough details that you can imagine in your mind’s eye. For me in the fantasy genre needs to have descriptions so that I see everything like the author wants me to see his creation. Vaughn introduces many characters in this story but it is does not bog you done. This story has elves, dwarves, mythical creatures, and of course there are dragons. The pace of this story has action, adventure, and good versus evil. This is a fast read with that being said, I would get comfy in your reading chair and go on an adventure to Luminess. You will not be disappointed.
Have I mentioned that I have a thing for Paranormal books? Fantasy? Well, let me just say that I was more than excited to start reading Dragon Ascendants by Paul E. Vaughn.
I was completely enthralled with the story line and the way in which it flowed. Let’s just say that the author has a really good way with words. I was impressed with the characters and learned to love a certain individual with each page that I turned. It was such a satisfying journey, to see how Tallian handled all that was thrown his way.
It’s not often that I come across an author that has impressed me. And let’s just say that I am so looking forward to how this series unravels. This was a definite 4 Star Book for me!
Book one in the Luminous Legends series written by Paul E. Vaughn is Dragon Ascendants. This story was nothing like I thought it would be. It surpassed my hopes for it in every way. The writing style and description of everything from the story line to the characters down to the small details everything was we’ll thought of and so well written. The main character Tallian is a boy beyond his years in many ways he thinks his choices through and is thoughtful. Dragons Ascendants pretty much has it all good vs evil, and all the things that go bump in the night including but not limited to elves, dwarfs and of course dragons. I am definitely looking forward to reading more from Paul E. Vaughn after reading this story.
Dragon Ascendants is the first book in the Luminess Legends series by Paul E. Vaughn. This is Paul’s debut book and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series. Although fantasy books are not the genre I read the most, I like to through in a few every month to mix up my reading choices. I’m really glad I pick this one, the world building was amazing and the characters are detailed. Tallian is a great main character, who learns who he really is and the powers he possesses in this first installment. This story was fast paced and the ending was fantastic. I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series. This is a wonderful debut book, that I highly recommend.
Dragon Ascendants (Luminess Legends Book 1) by Paul E. Vaughn is a paranormal fantasy. It is full of mystery and danger, dragons and dwarfs, magic and more. Dragon Ascendants is a fantasy novel by Paul E Vaughn and the first book in the Luminess Legends series. Tallian is half elf, half human but has been raised by dwarves, when his village is attacked he must do everything in his power to save his friends and family. This book was exciting and kept me turning pages the whole way through. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. If you love elves, dwarves, dragons and all things fantasy then this book is for you!
This is one of those stories you have to read all the way through before you can make up your mind if you like it. For me it was very slow but it starts to pick up. You can see the character development in every chapter. Tallian doesn’t know who his real family is and that is a struggle for him. His dad finally tells him how he came to live with them. In all this self discovery Tallian loses his relationship with his brother. This paranormal story is filled with betrayal, death, new alliances and adventure. The author grabs your attention with the details on the creatures. I especially liked the details the author gave the dragons.
This is the first book in this series and first book I have read by this author. I enjoyed how there were so many different characters. I also enjoyed how there was so many different things going on that it kept me engaged until the last word. There are some twists and turns that left me wanting to hurry up and read the next page just to see what was going to happen. It took me on a journey of fantasy to a land with conflicts that is fast reading. I highly suggest reading this book.
Dragon Ascendants by Paul Vaughn is such a good gripping read. I have always been a fan of dragons and this genre and this did not disappoint. The book reads really well, there is loads of details around the world that you feel you know it. Not only do you get dwarves and elves you get the almighty dragon! So much happens in this book that I have no idea how the next book will love up to it but I'm honestly sure it will. Warning you will not want to put this book down!
Dragon Ascendants (Luminess Legends Book 1) by Paul E. Vaughn
An interesting novel with great world and character building. I was intrigued by the amount of detail the author put into this novel. I had no problem picturing myself in the book as the story took place. I really enjoyed Tallian's character as he discovers himself and grows to fill his protector position. I also loved Emerald. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
High fantasy filled with elves, dwarves, humans, this book was filled with rich detail. The plot was well developed and moved at a good pace. I don’t read high fantasy often but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I look forward to reading more in this series.
Paul E. Vaughn, it's a very good start. Hope to see more from you soon. This is a good story line Some things feel familiar while others bring a surprise. It's an easy read, without being very complex., yet the story is well told and flows well. I give it 4 stars!
Dragon Ascendants (Luminess Legends Book 1) By Paul E. Vaughn Rated 5 stars
I loved reading this book! The story intrigued me! First of I love reading about dragons. When Tallian first found Emerald I wished I was him. Who doesn’t want a cute cuddly green dragon? Those eyes and scales and green fire! Plus that little personality! He is a keeper! Now there are also dwarves and elves among other creatures in the story. There is magic and good and evil. I really loved the world building done here. The dwarf world, to the town, to the Elven city. All was so cool!
Tallian is a nice guy. He is compassionate and will help others. He does not think of himself first. He lives with the dwarves and works in the mines but he is not a dwarf. He has the best friend ever! Emerald Wildfire! A dragon. Tallian changes so much throughout the story. He meets each challenge and figures out a way to overcome. This boy is going places!
All the characters are so delightful! Yes even the bad ones. The journey these creatures go on is amazing. This is my first book by this author. It really engages me and makes me want to live in this world of fantasy he created. At the end I was kind of shocked. I tried twice to keep turning pages before I realized it was the end of the book. Next please!
