I liked this story. It is very readable, and a great page turner. Because the chapters are nice and short (but to the point), I kept thinking I will just read another one. Before I knew it I was half way through the book.

This book is more about building the new world. We learn about the characters, their races, and their world. Also about some of their powers, weaknesses, philosophies, prophecies and the characters. The book is more of an introduction to the coming war, despite a many deaths there is not much action in the book, but all the characters are done so well this can be overlooked.

I really like the mixing of magic and technology in the book, as well as the characters not being one dimensional. The are all young and despite the different life challenges they have faced there is still a nativity to them in their feelings especially.

I find Isola born but growing up in different world yet not accepted by either a great starting point for a hero. I really like the pop culture references (and their meaning to the different cultures) great. I am also interested in who Isola will choose, as well as the war to come. Plenty of things to explore in this series.

This is a very enjoyable book, which as soon as I finished I ordered the next book (and not just because of the cliffhanger at the end). Always the mark of a good book.

For a minute, I thought I would just drop it. But the book turned out quite good.

- dragons dragons dragons
- a cute tree spirit that loves chocolate
- a dragon that wants to collect hot guys
- a likeable heroine
- politics, betrayals and stuff like that.

Wings of Ice is not perfect. It lacks in world building, in action and in awesomeness, and it's a bit cliché. But it's a good read, it's entertaining, has potential and I can't wait to read more. And it has dragons, duh

Forbidden love or the throne of the dragons?

Isola Dragice thought she knew what her future would bring. On her eighteenth birthday, she’d inherit the dragon throne, but one earth-shattering moment destroys everything.
As war looms heavy over Dragca, Isola is catapulted out of her pretend human life and thrust into a world, she knows little of. One life-threatening accident, when she loses control of her dragon, ends up with the whole of Dragca academy hating her.
When the four most powerful dragons in history are ordered to protect her, they find themselves with an awkward problem. Her family cursed them centuries ago, relegating them to slaves of the throne and they hate all royals. Especially an ice dragon princess with no control over her powers that can kill fire dragons. Which the whole school is full of.

Couldn't get into this novel. The opening scenes that lead to Isola returning to her home planet were shallow and short-changed. The words are there saying how heartbroken Isola is, but there isn't enough illustration to help the reader *feel* that heartbreak. I wasn't invested in either character. So having one of them die is like "oh well" [shrug]. The prologue was also devoid of emotion. Again, though the words were there, the illustration was clinical and removed. So I'm absolutely not interested in what happens to these characters.

Intense but I totally saw the bad guy coming.

Wings of Ice was an interesting take on a dragon shifter romance book. In it, you will meet Isola. She's an ice dragon princess who can't control her dragon (yet) but she's also someone you don't want to mess with. She's in constant danger because fire dragons want to kill her and her dad to end some weird ass dragon curse.

Along the way, she starts to fall for her guardians.. which is definitely forbidden. Out of all the guardians, I loved Elias the most. There was something about him and I instantly knew that there was going to be some obvious attraction between them. Of course it's a harem, so there's bound to be something happening with all of them. But he's my favorite and I feel like that needed to be said.

Besides all of that, I totally saw the one guy turning on all of them. He was just acting all kinds of fishy. Leaving her when it was supposed to his watch. She was always in danger then too. So, not really mysterious because it was kind of obvious. I can't wait to dive into the next book to see what type of revenge will take place.

Just not for me. Confusing and weird. I fell out of the story too many times wondering about reality. Like, how can she place someone's sister if she only knew the sister for three months when she was 8? Or WTF is up with the prologue? Too many "huhs."

This is a Paranormal Reverse Harem about dragons -- we're not talking earth-shattering depth here. So my review is based on entertainment, and execution.

The writing was flat and uninspired, and what makes that disappointing (aside from the obvious), is that I feel like the world and characters had great potential. I think the world was interesting, and it could've been great.

But...

Isola sucks. She's boring and shallow. Essentially banished from her home as a child, she's thrust into the human world and given Jace as a playmate. Instead of showing us her loneliness, her dependence on Jace as the only one who understands, what she's going through, the author portrays her as a shallow teenager with penchant for social media, reality TV and smutty books. Instead of using the books and time she was given to educate herself about a realm she's supposed to lead, she decides to turn her back on that and doesn't learn ANYTHING about the dragon realm.

When Jace is murdered, and she's suddenly thrown back into the dragon realm and sent to a school surrounded by Fire Dragons who despise her, we don't get a lot of glimpses into her grief at losing Jace, or her anxiety at the new world that she is unequipped for. We get her lusting after hot guys.

Despite all of that, the plot line is actually pretty interesting with the double cross, and then the triple cross. The entertainment value is there if you can overlook the subpar execution.

So yeah...I fee like this COULD have been awesome, but instead, we get a watered down story.

Given a copy by NetGalley for an honest review:

This book was frustrating at the beginning but it quickly became interesting. I almost put it down at the beginning because it felt like I was about to read an AU fanfiction of Game of Thrones and Mortal Instruments. But the idea borrowing really only ran skin-deep. It’s the reliance on prophecies surrounding ice and fire, a person who is promised (more or less), and “dragonglass” weapons that are a bit too unoriginal for me. Also, we have an initial romantic interest named Jace, who has icy blonde hair and blue eyes... which, if i’m recalling correctly, is the same dude from Mortal Instruments.

Annnyyyways, I’m glad I pushed through the first part because the author doesn’t lean in to it as much as I thought she would.

The book’s main POV is Isola, a 17/18 year old heiress to a magical kingdom of dragon-shifters. There are two types of dragons: ice and fire.

Ice dragons have more power than fire dragons, but there are very few of them. In fact, we are meant to believe that there are only three left: Isola, her father (the king), and her infertile stepmother (no joke, that is literally all we get with that character until maybe the last 2 percent of the novel). There are prophecies about a couple of things that I never really tracked, except for the whole “royal peeps and their guards can’t get together in the biblical sense or else they lose their dragons”...oh also, the dragonguards can’t shirk their responsibilities to the crown or else they die. There were other prophecies but honestly I just didn’t care. TBH I’m just waiting for that beautiful loophole where Isola and her boys can finally get it on. But, I digress.

Isola is sent to Dragon Hogwarts after her “mate” Jace is muckducked. (Murder for non Office fans). After a couple of minor incidents, her fire dragon dragonguard is assembled: Thorne (distrust anyone with thorne in their name), Elias, Dagon and Korbin. They are all more or less cupcaking with our girl Isola, aka they are all flirty but reserved at the same time (for reasons of duty and resenting that they’ve been enslaved in this duty, yada yada). Thorne is basically the odd man out in terms of the inner-dragonguard clique and we are manipulated to believe that he is the only honest guy among his sneaky sneak cohort. THAT turns out to be false because, guess what? Thorne is actually the love-child of that infertile stepmother I mentioned earlier and some other dude. Her name is Tatarara or something—idc she was in the book for two seconds.

Anyways, Thorne (Isola’s stepbro—so no future incest for anyone who is keeping track! Phew!) kills the King and reveals he is also an ice dragon. He becomes king and claims he never liked Isola (I call BS). He then commands a seer to wipe Isola and her three other dragonguards’ memories and they are sent to the human world. The seer is important but i don’t feel like explaining why. This sets us up for the sequel, where Isola and her boys may or may not get things going in a UK high school. We’ll see.

As much as I seemed to like this book (and look forward to its future installments) I can’t help but hunger for more of what had been promised. No, I’m not talking about steamy sexy times—I like the slow burn. I wanted this book to give me more of the school, students, etc. who ended up as afterthoughts when it came to tension resolution. Like—she kind of got her classmates to like her but not really? Because she froze a few snakes?

Also, why did Thorne choose to make his moves on the throne when he did? What happened? I have other questions but I’m guessing (hoping) they’ll be answered in the next book.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read but it isn’t the best entry into the reverse-harem genre.

Isola Dragice(how am I supposed to pronounce this? Drag-Ice? Drag-eece?) is one of the last ice dragons after her to be mate Jace is murdered. She's a princess who's been sent to Earth from Dragca by her father for her own safety. Of course once Jace is murdered she goes back to Dragca to the Academy for... well I'm not exactly sure. Training ostensibly but with all the drama who can tell. There she meets her future RH. All good on that front. Unfortunately Isola, a future queen btw, is willfully ignorant of her homeland, politics, history, pretty much everything. While her idiocy annoyed me the world itself kept me entertained. The pacing is a bit insane throughout this series. For example after her mate/childhood friend dies she's already checking out other guys the very next day. Granted they're meant to be her harem but it just reeked of insta-everything to me. Something I abhor. On top of that all character reactions are really rushed which makes everything just a little unbelievable and hard to form an attachment to a character that seems like a cardboard cutout. Unfortunately these problems seem to carry on through all the first 4 books.

This author has really interesting story arcs which really don't deserve the one dimensional unlikable characters, poor editing and stilted writing.

Electronic ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was . . . not to my taste. I found the worldbuilding to be incoherent, to the point where I had to double-check that this wasn't a later book in the series. Characters were thinly-drawn, and the dialogue needed a lot of work; nobody had a distinctive 'voice' and the characters often seemed to blur together. Without strong characters I couldn't care about the protagonist's fate, and the romance failed to gel. I had trouble keeping to the plot, which seemed to veer wildly around with little driving force behind it.

This read like a first draft, not a complete, polished novel.

This as a pretty enjoyable book. I've read another of G Bailey's reverse harem series and I absolutely loved it. This is no different. Although I really enjoyed this book and I ended up really loving all the characters I felt like not much really happened in this book? Idfk.

Anywho, Issy is the last ice princess. She was brought to Earth to live to keep her safe because there is a war happening between the Ice Dragons and the Fire Dragons. Issy's mom was murdered by a fire dragon and then her father turned coldhearted and sent her away for her own good. The only plus side is that she was sent away with Jace, the last ice prince. They were mated and were supposed to be together to rule the dragon world, Dragca.

Welp. Jace gets murdered and Issy has to go back to Dragca to live in the academy for dragons and learn before she can be named Queen. But while living there the fire dragon rebellion is still out to kill her since she is the last heir.

This book is filled with heartbreak, betrayals, sexual tension, and much more. I seriously liked the book and I even am okay with that MASSIVE cliffhanger. I just hope that the rest of the series gets better... Well, better might not be the right word. Let's say I hope there is more action. Or something to make me even more hooked. Becuase no matter how much I love the guys I can't commit to a five book series that I won't really really enjoy.

This got really good towards the end, and the second one is set up to be amazing! Issy comes back after being in the human world, and she meets her dragon guards, but they are cursed so they can't even like each other. The end of this book really picks up the pace and a ton of stuff happens, it was so good. Also, Eli is my favorite.

2020 Review

I loved it the first time I read it, and I love it the second time as well! I completely forgot everything that happened, so it was like reading it for the first time again. The guys were still hot as ever (even Thorne if with all that ifykyk) I have no idea why they went on about who they thought was the true heir. Like excuse me? An ice dragon decided to go have an affair with a fire dragon and got knocked up. Doesn't seem like much of an true heir to me. Especially when the real heir was literally born into the royalty blood line, and has a tree spirit which no one has had in thousands of years. You tell me which one sounds like the true heir XD

The curse was a little confusing to understand. I get the gist, but not what would happen to Isola if the curse was broken.

G. Bailey has once again managed to make my heart stop and mind explode. Those damn cliff hangers! I currently have a love hate relationship with them. This is by far my favorite book by Bailey. She had me at that prologue. I was so anxious about how that would play out. And it was unexpected to say the least. I loved the idea of ice and fire dragons. Thats a side of dragons that I haven't seen in other books. Cant wait to see more of Isola and her guards in the second book!

This was a really fun and fast paced read! I love reading about dragons/dragon shifters and haven’t nearly gotten my fill yet with the dragons in this world. Really Loved reading about them and can’t wait to read more because there’s still so much that needs to be explored and explained.

A fun story line and the writing was really addictive. I was finished before I knew it and I’m left aching to get my hands on book 2 seeing it ends with a cliffhanger.

Liked the characters and the (romantic) bonds they’re forming in this first installment and it’s a good set up to book 2, so I’m really excited to see how the reverse harem
Elements are going to be further explored next.

A fun read that I’d definitely recommend reading if you like fantasy/paranormal romance with dragons/dragonshifters in it and reverse harem. So far the romance has been slow burning between our main characters and I normally like it more when it doesn’t take an entire book (or more) to come to fruition but it’s such a good slow burn romance tho!

Anyway, I’m hooked to this world, this story and these characters and can’t wait to continue reading the series.

Well, I wasn't expecting that twist in the book! Now what I want to know is when will the next book be out? You can't leave me hanging this way. Hahahaha.

You had me at dragons, to be honest. Out of all the paranormal-fantasy creatures, dragons are my favorite. But aside from this being a book involving dragons, I reall,y really liked the world-setting. I liked Isola and her men. I really loved Bee. I want to see Isola get her HEA and I can't wait to find out what happens in book 2!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting me an ARC of this book.

Let me start by saying I adore all things dragons, seriously...I'm obsessed, and when I stumbled across this book I was totally down for it on the pretense of dragons alone. Then, I started reading it, and loved the idea even more.

This story starts out following a dragon girl named Isola living in the human world to be kept safe, when things turn 'unsafe' for her she is then brought back to her own home world to be better protected. Isola is not only a dragon, but she is also a princess, the last heir to the throne, and one of the last Ice Dragons. Caught up in a rebellion she is assigned 4 dragon guards who must protect her with their life, but there is a curse and a prophecy about a royal dragon and dragon guards; one that claims a high price.

Needless to say, things get messy but in a totally delicious way. This book had a really strong start in my opinion, I felt glued to the pages (being honest I did manage to read this in a matter of hours). The beautiful thing about this book is that there are small snippets of future premonitions that come back in later scenes, and I loved this. It leaves you feeling hooked, and then when it comes together it leaves you with a sense of satisfaction. It is a reverse harem story, but I didn't feel like that was the sole focus unlike others I have read, in fact for me it offered so much more than that.

It is a great story about a girl coming to terms with herself, her own losses, and the losses of those around her. It is a story about mending broken bonds, betrayal, heartache, and learning to trust. Overall, I really enjoyed this book, the characters, and the suspense. I was not expecting the ending, and I immediately wanted to read the next book!
If you want dragons, magic, a headstrong female, and hot guys then you will find it here in this book.

This is 290 pages of intrigue and everyone is out to win and rule over Dragca, but not as long as the princess, Isola, is alive. I loved the pace, the story (because dragons are my favorite mythical creatures) and where would this be without four different guys swooning over Isola?
It’s the first book in the Protected by Dragons series and what a great start to the story, because if this is how you get my attention, then I’m so hoping you keep it all through the remaining books! I can’t wait to see Isola take back what’s hers and restore order to their realm.
My favorite scene because I was definitely rooting for Elias and Isola :-), well, Dagan had me at “Kittycat” but that’s TMI for now, just get the book and read it.

“Eli,” I whisper.

“You need to rest, but that was real. That is what is between us: chemistry, magic, and f--- knows what else, but I want to find out…I’m done letting rules f--- with my mind when it comes to you, the rules of this damn curse.”

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC because how else would I get to read so many awesome books!

Really enjoyed the start to this new series by G Bailey. Isola is the heir to the dragon throne, living in the human world with her mate until time for her to take over. Things take an unexpected turn though. She's now at "dragon school" to learn what she's missed out on all her life until it's safe for her to take over. She's given 4 guards to protect her. When you spend that much time with someone it's hard not to develop feelings for anyone but in this case, the curse states that it's forbidden to do so. Still, she puts her trust in them to keep her safe. That turns out to be a very bad decision. Holy cow that ending! I spent the whole book trying to figure out who betrayed her, not spoiler b/c it's in the very beginning of the book, and wow, I was still surprised. So glad the next one is already on my kindle to read. Don't think I could wait for a long time to not know what's happening.

Wings of Ice (Protected by Dragons, #1)
I loved it. I couldn't stop daydreaming about it during and after I read it. I firmly believe this is a must-read. Isola, princess of Dragca, was a determined and strong woman. She can be an inspiration for you to stand up for yourself, for your beliefs, and for the people around you. And besides Isola, the concept of book was filled with so much fantasy. Fire Dragons and Ice Dragons. Tree Spirits. Dragonglass. Portals. Seers. It was all filled with wonderful magic. I got so excited when I found out it's part of a series. A bit of a warning though, it has swear words and reverse haram. (If you do not know what reverse haram is, it is when a main character has three love interests) Other than that, I highly recommend the book. You will love it. (P.S. Major cliffhanger)

Very MEH read. Isola is supposed to be heartbroken, yet she never acts like it and immediately starts lusting after her guards. That is not how grief works. Very little action. The whole book, plot and characters are shallow. Reader gets snippets of what is happening, but not enough to form an actual plot. Prophecies are so jumbled that they make zero sense. The only clear thing is that someone is trying to kill Isola, but then epilogue completely erases that notion. I understand that it's only the first book in series andis meant to set premise for the next books, but if nothing makes sense, when there is no steady foundation for story, how can something be built upon it.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would at the start, it kept you interested and the pages turning . I wasn't impressed with Isolly moving on so quickly from her 'love' and being attracted to three guys when she was grieving, not a huge fan of instalove, but it wasn't guilty of that it was instalust I suppose more, but she moved on very quickly is the main i could see the villain coming but maybe that was just me. But I enjoyed it, was fast paced and I do want to know what happens next , good light entertaining read.

So Hats off to G. Bailey I had no idea who the Killer was till it was revealed at the very end. That takes some talent.
Sadly the book just wasn't for me. I was so lost. So many prophecies and side speak had me utterly confused. Fire and Ice and Ice of Fire and Death by Death to see Death of Ice of Fire... WTF?! Speak normal!
I did enjoyed the characters. Lots of Angst. Very YA Novel.
Just not sure I care enough to force myself into Book 2-4 when there are so many other gritty reverse harem novels out there.

Very angsty and full of duty, betrayal and revenge. I liked the characters and at the very end there is a two part twist that I really did not see coming, well, the identity of the betrayer to be precise, so thumbs up for that.
