All you lovers of Billionaire stories, guess what????? This book was just updated and got a new cover too. It's one of my favorites!!!!
I always love a good second chance story, especially when the two MCs knew each other when they were little, parted ways and then meet up again years later. This had a fun and fresh twist to that type of plot. I was pretty much pulled right into the story when I started it a couple nights ago and was trying to be very patient to find time to finish it. Who says you can't learn patience while reading novels? Not me, because I have to practice that virtue a lot with my love of reading! Hee Hee! A very busy weekend is not conducive to reading a book you don't want to put down. But I found some quiet reading time last night and some today and tah-dah I finished it and loved it!
Picture, if you can, two childhood friends. Running free between their family homes and property, catching frogs, ending up covered in mud, sneaking treats, communicating via Morse code and sharing hours and hours of time together. Then never seeing each other again. Wishing you could just find that friend who knows you so well and someone you want to see happy. The years pass and the likelihood of ever seeing them again diminishes.
Until one day when an encounter with a house, a fence, a camera, a skirt and misperceptions brings it all crashing back to Earth and reality hits. Who is this person posing as your childhood best friend? Imposter for sure!!! Except, unfortunately, they're not. Can you ever catch a glimpse again of the friend you once knew? Or are they gone for good after life has taken hold of them over the years.
I loved Daniel and Mandy! The moments where they shared the pages were great and full of chemistry (even though one or both of them might try to deny it). And the pages where it was just one of them, thinking about the other, the memories and enlightening of the reader of their history together was great and left me wanting more. The angst throughout the book was well written and played into the storyline really well. There were a few thoughts that Daniel had a little ways into the book foreshadowing what was to come and I'm so glad I caught it. I think I liked him even more because of that little foreshadowing. If you don't happen to catch it, no worries, I think you'll still really enjoy it.
Mandy, oh I loved her dreams and yet the uncertainty she felt mixed with the longing and sadness. She was a fabulous character. With all the troubles caused by a certain character, she handled it with dignity and grace (except maybe not in one scene, you know, the embarrassing scene where you wish she could hide but she can't-lol).
I fell in love with these two and many of the secondary characters. Mandy's roommate...Candace. Oh please, oh please, oh please, can we have her story? I'm sure hoping so. It seems like the author has set it up as a possibility, and if you've read the book then you'll know exactly which character I want her to have a story with. I loved all of Daniel's coworkers/employees! They were awesome! From the higher up to the not so high, the characters were great and just fun to be around.
I loved the wigs, the ice cream, the text messages (swoon), the traveling, the houses, the friendships, the pond, the fence, the shoes (especially the boot), Morse code(the cheat sheet too), Hank (or rather Hank's grandson-Hee Hee!!!!), the artwork, the books (it's signal time), the interior decorator, the hospital visits, the diva, the ducks, the food, the camera, Mr. Alexander, the flowers, the notes, the truck rides (with the boot), and I especially loved the sweet and clean romance between Mandy and Danny! <3
Some of those references might seem pretty vague or you might wonder why the thoughts inside the parenthesis but I assure you it will all make perfect sense if you read the book. Great stuff all referenced right there in a way of being vague so no spoilers. This is part of the Destination Romance: Mansions series and is one of my favorites so far! I know lots of my reading friends are going to love it! Grab a copy, some scones, ice cream and maybe a tasty drink(hot chocolate would be perfect)...and enjoy!!!

I received a review copy. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
I love that Mandy and Daniel knew each other as children, at a time when they each really needed a friend. The first meet as adults was kind of hilarious--and scary, funny, and crazy. This couple doesn't have an easy road. As they've grown, their paths have vastly differed and the one thing that brings them together is Daniel's grandfathers old, run-down mansion.
Lack of communication is prevalent in this story and it's almost like a tennis match, waffling back and forth between who is willing to talk and who isn't. Each are likable characters, for the most part, although their hesitance to trust and talk sometimes makes the reader feel otherwise for a minute. At least, that's how it was for me, and it happens over and over and over again.
Through all of the thick and heavy drama, there are some very sweet redeeming moments and those come when the walls drop, or in this case, the fences fall. I love the vulnerable situations and they really drew me into the story. Of course, the supporting cast is hilariously fun, fierce, and loyal! I'd love to see a few spin-offs result from this book (Candace for one). This is a fun addition to the Mansion set and is full of scandalous entertainment.
Content: mild romance (some light innuendo).
*I received a copy, which didn't influence my opinion in any way.*
I really liked Daniel and Mandy! And I thought this book had lots of great secondary characters, too.
Daniel and Mandy spent a summer playing together as children and they have never forgotten each other. And it's a good thing for Daniel that Mandy had lots of great memories of him as a child because he did not make a good impression when she reconnects with him as an adult! Daniel knows that Mandy is the right woman, but the timing is completely wrong. He is in the middle of a couple of lawsuits and has signed contracts and can't disclose why he is acting a certain way. By the time all the legal issues clear up and he's free to pursue her, a lot of bridges have been burned... But thankfully they both have best friends who aren't afraid to meddle!
I hope we get more of Colin's and Candace's stories, too!
I enjoyed this story for the most part, there was some great back and forth between Mandy and Daniel. I just wished there was more that they based their relationship on than one summer spent together as children and two or so dates as adults. It felt underdeveloped and I think their relationship would have felt more substantial if there had just been... more. It was the details that made this story stand out to me- the house of artists with each kitchen cupboard featuring a different painting from the masters, the chalkboard in the basement for visitors to sign, the creativity of Mandy's MFA project. Mandy's friend and housemate Candace was also a fun supporting character and I felt like I was able to see more between the two of them than Mandy and Daniel.
(I received a complimentary copy of the book; all opinions in this review are my own)
4.5 Stars for this delightful read. Amanda Fowler's working on her MFA project so she can graduate and get her Masters, she just needs a few more pictures of the Crawford Mansion. Unfortunately, she's mistaken for a trespasser coming to vandalize the place and falls off of the fence she straddled to get a picture. She recognizes the person who startled her causing her fall (and broken foot)--it's Daniel Crawford, who now owns the mansion since his grandfather and father have died. Daniel doesn't seem to recognize Mandy until she mentions her Grandma Mae. Daniel Crawford hasn't decided what he wants to do with his grandfather's property in Indiana, since he lives in Chicago and travels a lot for work. He's tired of over zealous realtors and proposals for the property, so when he sees someone on the fence he mistakenly assumes it's a trespasser, but it's not. It's someone he spent one wonderful summer playing with 20 years ago, when he was finally allowed to be a child for a time. I really liked Mandy and Daniel together and felt for her when she and Candace (her roommate) had to unexpectedly deal with the paparazzi and the Facebook and Twitter trolls saying nasty things after her dinner with Daniel. I loved how Daniel tried to help even though he was out of town, and couldn't tell her what was really going on. Mandy helps Daniel remember the fun times they had that one summer--playing at the pond with the ducks, staying up late, all the stuff kids like to do when they're out of school. I loved the humorous parts, especially Candace's wig story with 'the accountant and the frat ring'. I tried to imagine the decor in Daniel's NYC apartment furnished by the 'colorblind decorator', the incident when Mandy tries to be inconspicuous, and Daniel's duck jokes. Lol. Candace and Colin (Daniel's assistant and best friend) scheme to get Mandy and Daniel together so they can finally talk, and Daniel can explain about the New York dates. The story about his father's mansion and her Grandma Mae's house was a wonderful surprise, and led to a perfect ending. I'd love to have Candace and Colin get their own story. This is a clean romance.
This was my favorite story in the Mansions series so far! There was nothing to complain or nit pick. The connection between Daniel and Mandy felt real, as did the things keeping them a part. You could argue that Mandy could have let him explain, but women need a cool down period. After that, she did listen. Sadly, the incident with Coach 'Handsy' also felt real to life. Every time "but the team was winning" was mentioned, I wanted to scream because all too often that is more important than women's comfort and safety.
I also loved how in the end, Daniel figures out that love is really about the every day small moments than the big gestures.
I give Mending Fences a 4.5 and Clean rating.
1-5 scale and what it means: 1: I couldn’t even finish it / just plain bad 2: I hope I didn’t pay for this / disappointing 3: I didn’t hate it, but it was still missing something / forgettable but inoffensive 3.5: On the line between good and ok / like, not love 4: Solid mind candy / worth reading 4.5: So very close to perfection! / must read 5: I could not put it down and I’m still thinking about it! / a true treasure
Movie Ratings in relation to my review: Clean--Hallmark movies, some kissing, no nudity, no sex on or off "screen" PG--Some innuendo but nothing kids don't hear every day, sex is all closed door PG-13--some language (swear words not related to sex), more talk about sex, heavy petting, removal of clothing on screen, but sex is closed door. R--swearing (can be related to sex), feels like the whole story is about the sex and not the relationship or some other plot
"Mending Fences" by Lorin Grace A Sweet Clean Contemporary Romance Story. I am lucky enough to be on the street team for this the fourth book in the Destined for Love: Mansions Collection. The author gave me a copy to read and post an honest review..AND... honestly I did love this story. I fell in love with the characters... so I hurt when they hurt, laughed at some of the things they did, scolded them sometimes, and cheered them on when I thought they were heading in the right direction. This is a Sweet Clean Contemporary Romance Story. I do love a story that should it be being read aloud, I would not care who heard what I was being read to me. I really think you should give this story a read because I think it is a 5-star story.
I really enjoyed Mending Fences. I've enjoyed all the Mansion books, but I think this was my favorite so far. I loved getting to know Mandy and Danny. Their relationship was sweet and frustrating at times, but I enjoyed the ride. I also loved the secondary characters. I would love to read a story about them.
Brick by brick, memory by memory and heart to heart, Ms. Grace has created an enamoring tale. One building holds the key to new beginnings and happily ever afters. Mending Fences lays out a winding road of secrets, heartache and forgiveness that is true to life and hard to let go of. Along with the breathtaking romance, there are some serious scenarios that shine a light on some ugly truths.
Mandy was Daniel’s friend years ago, at the time when he needed one most. They spent an unforgettable summer together. Years later, they run into each other. This was an adorable and fun story about two people who mean a lot to one another and how the past and future can be more intertwined than we think. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Romance, clean This was a cute retelling of Wuthering Heights with a HEA. Definitely a 3.5 for me as a reader, but still I love the art aspect, and even though the money and society stuff wasn't really me, the H, and h, were such honest caring people, with hurting hearts, that I loved their story and final coming together. The mirrored story with the Bronte's with the house, the characters, their doomed story, and the deep affection and feelings for each other were really lovely. The misunderstandings, the complexity of life in the 'spotlight', the past and the present, all combined to make a beautiful fall, with a lovely setting in the end. Loved the home that they both created in the end. A lovely read!
Cute, sweet and well written. Only one tiny plot thing that I felt was unrealistic. I enjoyed the characters' chemistry and I'm a sucker for stories about reuniting with a childhood friend/sweetheart. Hoping there will be a book about Candace and Colin.
"Watch where people spend their time, and you will know what they love,”
This is a great quote from the book. Overall, I really enjoyed the relationship development between Daniel and Mandy. Fun secondary characters too.
The one thing that came up halfway through the story, and still managed to leave an unpleasant memory, although it only lasted a couple sentences, was a comment about "Gordon and his husband." I choose not to read that alphabet genre for a reason and thus was quite disappointed it showed up in this book. I was tempted to go down to two starts because of how icky I felt coming upon that in a "clean" romance. Clearly differing views on cleanliness.
Mending Fences is about childhood BFFs who reconnect after more than twenty years in the most unusual way. Mandy and Daniel were inseparable one summer in their childhood. They lost touch since their lives took them into different directions. The remaining physical thing that connected them, Crawford Mansion, has become neglected and rumor has it that it will be sold soon. Mandy hard at work for her MFA decided that the last subject for her portfolio would be that Mansion but first she had to get good photos of it without actually trespassing. Kind of hard to straddle a fence when you're wearing a vintage skirt. Unfortunately she gets caught and accused of the very same thing she was trying to avoid by the very same boy she had one unforgettable summer with, Daniel Crawford. Daniel never thought he would be back at the same place he spent a summer after a tragic event. He just wants to get rid of the property as quickly as possible. He never thought that an obstacle by the name of Mandy would be in the way. The very same little girl who made his stay in this place memorable. When did she become so grown up? As Mandy and Daniel reconnect and try to build a more adult relationship, they start realizing that life was so much easier when they were children. Can they make it work despite all the obstacles facing them?
Mending Fences is a sweet romance, the MCs are quite well developed and the plot is cute. There were just a lot of plot devices used as obstacles making our MCs budding relationship harder to move forward. Also it did take away on how Daniel and Mandy become a romantic couple considering they were like six and seven when they first met and lost touch after that. Still Mending Fences was definitely well written with very engaging characters. It's a great lighthearted romantic read.
*Mending Fences is part of the Destined for Romance: Mansion series, which are novellas whose storyline/plot centers around Mansions. They can be read as standalones*
Mandy is trying to get the last picture she needs for her Master of Fine Arts degree. She is transforming photos of the old Crawford Mansion into what it could be today if it weren’t in such a state of disrepair. She is straddling a fence in front of the property when she is startled by the owner, Daniel, and mistaken for an intruder. Daniel eventually realizes that Mandy is not there to harm the mansion, since she loved it when they were childhood friends. Daniel is a well-known businessman and has been trying to decide what to do with the mansion that was left to him after the deaths of his father and grandfather now that he is able to sell the place. They end up going out to dinner together and a paparazzi nightmare ensues. When Daniel has to go to NYC to testify in two lawsuits about a highly publicized incident with a spoiled drunken socialite he was dating, he is seen about town with a different woman every night. Mandy sees the pictures of Daniel in NYC and believes that he is the playboy that he claims not to be. Can Mandy learn that pictures don’t always tell the whole story? Can Daniel move forward from his lonely childhood and discover that he no longer needs to be lonely? What will happen to the historic Crawford Mansion and the surrounding land?
This is the first book I have read by Lorin Grace and I really enjoyed it. All of the characters are well developed. The secondary characters could possibly be a follow-up book if the author decides to go that route (I hope so because I love Candace and Collin). The portrayal of Mandy as an art teacher is very insightful and realistic. I enjoyed the descriptions of Mandy’s home with the artistic touches throughout. I wish there had been a bit more description of the mansion so that I could picture it in my mind a bit better. The plot kept me interested and I finished the book quickly.
I received an ARC of this book and have voluntarily provided an honest review.
Mandy hasn't seen Daniel Crawford since the summer they met as children. She was living with her Grandma Mae, and he was living in the mansion next door with his grandfather. While working on a project for her masters, Mandy may or may not have climbed the fence to Daniel's property. When he startles her, she falls and gets hurt. This sounds like the kind of meet-cute I would have. I would not be unforgettable for my wit or beauty, but by the klutzy way I just embarrassed myself.
Mandy's parting words stir Daniel's memories, and he renews the friendship between them.
This was one of those stories where I wanted to yell at the characters to communicate with one another! Thankfully, there were some amazing secondary characters who did that for me! I loved the people in Daniel's life, from his business partner, to his secretary. They told him exactly what I wanted to say (mostly that he was being an idiot)!
I liked that Mandy and Daniel were childhood friends, and were rebuilding that relationship. There was also some great tension and drama just because Daniel is a rich, and therefore famous, bachelor.
If you like clean romances, or yelling at your characters until they finally get it right, this is the book for you.
Mending Fences is a well written and clean romance with some suspense and a mystery to be solved. As a photographic art student, Mandy has a few camera shots left to complete her project, when Daniel discovers her balancing on his gate. His angry reaction causes Mandy to fall and fracture her foot, but that is the least of her problems. In what could have been a beautiful story of second chances and redeeming lost love, instead Daniel and Mandy find themselves being pursued by paparazzi and schoolgirls wanting to record every intimate moment of their lives. Both Mandy and Daniel have objectives to complete and dispense with, but Daniel's manner of dealing with his problems causes Mandy intense pain and despair. My heart went out to Mandy in this book as she became the victim of the press, but there were also amusing moments, especially regarding her roommate's love affair with wigs. Daniel didn't always come out looking like a hero, but he had a part to play and an objective to meet. Once one realises what he is trying to achieve, he becomes the stuff that dreams are made of. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Mending Fences is a sweet romance by Lorin Grace. It was the first book I have read by this author.
Overall, it was a good story. It was the story of the surprise reunion between Mandy and Daniel who had originally met as children for a single summer. The initial meeting went very poorly and resulted in a broken camera, a broken foot, and a whole lot of mistrust. Add to that mix a "handsy" athletic coach, an alcoholic socialite, some paparazzi, and a bunch of jealous females and you have the perfect recipe for disaster.
The story was told using alternating points of view, with an all-knowing narrator.
Despite the advances of the coach and a reference to a bordello, the story remained clean nothing going beyond a few kisses.
I received this book for free from Destined for Love Romances in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Hey shared one summer together when they were very young. That summer was the best for Mandy and a mixed for Daniel, it was the summer he lost his mother, part of his dad and left in the hands of his grandfather. That was the last they saw each other until roughly 20 years later. Mandy is trying to get her MFA degree and her old neighbors house Daniels now mansion is the last picture she needs to do her project. Until she was interrupted and got injured from a guy scaring her off the fence gate. Little did she know that little scare, the man, the fence and the mansion will change her future. For the good and the bad. This was a good story, you can feel their emotions. But I do need to say is he does take Mandy on a impromptu date and tells her it’s a really bad time for the date because he has contracts already signed for many New York dates, he’ll be dating a bunch of women also and trying to juggle his real emotions for Mandy separately from his legal teams plans.... there is a reason for the dates and he’s not a player.
I finished this book and let out a happy sigh. It was such a sweet romance and a great story. I really liked Mandy and Danny! They had such a special summer together as kids, and I loved seeing them reconnect. Even if it did start off a little rocky. They come from such different places, but are so good for each other. I really felt for Mandy as her world was turned upside down. What a crazy twist for her! She handled it all well. I do wish she would have let Danny explain things, but could understand why she didn’t. I was so glad he wouldn’t let her go, and loved the way he decided to focus on the little things.
This is the first book I’ve read by Lorin Grace, and I am really looking forward to reading more.
I received a copy of the book, which I voluntarily reviewed. I have given my honest opinion.
When Mandy and Daniel were kids, they spent one summer together. Now, they meet for the first time in 20 years, and Daniel is being very rude and certainly no gentleman. He is one of America’s most eligible bachelors and has a reputation of being a player. That also means a lot of paparazzi. Mandy is a high school art teacher and is also doing an MFA project (master of fine arts) in order to graduate. Daniel has gotten so used to fake socialites; he discovers he likes Mandy’s realness.
It was sweet. There was attraction, things that went wrong, misunderstandings, there was even a little suspense. I really liked it.
What I found a bit hard to believe: that Mandy would take such a giant risk with a camera that is not hers and is worth soooo much money ($ 60,000!!!).
I received a complimentary copy of this book and voluntarily posted an honest review.
A very enjoyable clean romance that had me interested through the whole story. I liked both H&h as well as the secondary characters. The romance was sweet, though the book focused a little too much on the various conflicts/roadblocks to the relationship, and not quite enough time with the couple together to show the reader how they belong together. The story was confusing when the characters were texting, as there was nothing to denote that it was a text vs a thought. Texts should be either be in italics or bold, just as you would if the character was reading a letter. It should also indicate who texted what. Otherwise, this book was very enjoyable. *I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
I have a weakness for a best friends to lovers storylines. Mandy and Danny were best friends for one summer and then did not see each other for 20 years. Their first meeting after 20 years does not go well. There is a definite attraction between the two but Mandy isn't sure about Danny's affection when she sees he is dating someone new every night. Danny is frustrated that every time he tries to make a connection with Mandy something gets in the way. Will the two get a happily ever after or will there be two many things in the way? This is a sweet romance with some funny and quirky secondary characters.
This is my first book by this author. I really enjoyed this story. It had so many emotions going on. I loved the characters and the plot. Amanda & Daniel had meet one summer when they were ten. They're relationship was sweet and frustrating at times. I loved the part of Morse Code when they were younger and how Daniel continued to use it when they re-met as adults. I loved the scene at the pond with the ducks. The best part was when Mandy turned the mansion into a Bordello for her MFA project and how Daniel had his employee buy the pictures for him. Their chemistry was great! i really liked Candance and Colin's characters. I hope to see their story next. I received a ARC of this book.
A sweet story of how two childhood friends who spent one summer together get reacquainted as adults. Daniel, a rich eligible bachelor and Mandy, a high school art teacher are definitely two examples of opposites attracting. I guess this story shows the downside of social media and the power of the paparazzi. One dinner date leads to Mandy becoming a feature on the news!! The characters are well defined, the computer nerd, the sex pest football coach and the motherly P.A. I would like to hear more about Candace, Mandy's arty roommate with a substantial wig collection, does she ever get her own Happy Ever After? I enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it.
I really enjoyed reading this story. It is one that I could hardly put down. I loved the way Amanda (Mandy) and Danny knew each other as children and met later when they were both grown up. The chemistry between them was hard to dismiss. I loved the story and all the other characters, especially Mandy's roommate and best friend, Candace, and all her wild wigs and the reason she wore them. Great attitude.
This is such a great story; it has everything to make you feel like Mandy is one of your best friends and that you wish the best for her. Read this book and you will find your best bookfriend!
A very nice Book.It caught my interest right from the beginning.Good story,a lovable pair of leading characters. This is the story of two childhood friends meeting after a long time.Memories surface. For a change,Danny, the owner of the mansion and property is not crazy after it.It is Mandy who has ideas of reconstructing it for her research work.he mansion and property is not crazy after it.It is scary to see how the paparazzi haunt the famous persons .play havoc with people's lives.Nice to see how Daniel protects Mandy.Candece, the friend amuses with her different wigs. And the Morse code is a novel idea...quite hilarious. It feels nice to read a happy ending
Mandy and Daniel knew one another as children. Clearly grandmother was wrong saying he would grow up to be a gentleman. When he spotted her on a fence trying to take pictures. Having borrowed a camera from the university to take pictures of the place. Danny has been bothered with tabloids, and development people wanting the place, so seeing her, thought the worst. He didn’t know what to do with the monstrosity of the house. The land he liked, having been left them by his grandfather. A romance is it possible, she is an art teacher and he is your playboy billionaire businessman . Good plot of second chances.
