Nothing is ever quite as it seems, at least not for Ariya Adams. She’s only recently discovered the supernatural world is real, and that world wants something from her. Her blood. Her unique ability to heal both werewolves and vampires with only a few drops gives Ariya a great power. However, that power has put her in unfathomable danger.
James, her sexy vampire boyfriend and Protector, has done well keeping Ariya safe in the past. When a new, more powerful and manipulative evil comes into play, it may prove to be more than they can handle, especially when their forbidden affair makes Ariya more vulnerable to the deceptive new enemy seeking to control her. Her grasp on reality will be tested and twisted as she battles to save James, her friends, and herself.
Despite her determination, she may be faced with a pain greater than she ever imagined. Even the most powerful abilities have limitations, and this time, the power of her blood might not be enough to save those she loves most. If all else is lost, will Ariya survive?

Favorite Lines “Well it isn't clear. I worry about telling you how I'm feeling about all this. How I feel about turning, and what I feel for you. I worry you'll freak out and change into your Protector mode and say we can't be together and then where will I be? I would be fine without a family if I had you, but I can't decide that if it's not a choice you're willing to give me. And you’re making it sound like it isn't. This isn't fair to me if you can't truly make up your mind.”
“Being afraid does not make you a coward, Ariya. People who are brave must have some fear, otherwise how is what they are doing courageous? The absence of fear isn’t what defines the brave. It’s the presence of fear while still making the right choice that defines it.”
“One more thing that you should think about. If James does die tomorrow, do you really want to live knowing that you didn't spend every moment you could being happy with him? Love isn't something you get dealt all the time. When you do, you have to cherish it. I haven’t seen either of you like this before. There is something special between you. I know you feel you're protecting him, but are you doing yourselves a disservice in the process?”
“You’re safe,” he exhaled. “I’m not going anywhere.”
How much more can Ariya take? She is finally with James but, then comes someone everyone thought was long gone. She's kidnapped tortured, her dreams are manufactured, and everyone she loves is in danger because she loves them! In this one some horrible heartbreaking things happen to Ariya and I wondered if she would make it but, she surprised me again and came back stronger than she was before! With family like they have I wonder how much longer they can survive! Everyone wants her blood when all she wants is to be normal, happy, and with James! It was a great next step in this fabulous tale! I want James and Ariya together forever but, stubborn Ariya might stand in her own way! I know why she's doing what she does but, I don't like it! The ending of this book of course makes me demand more! Great book, great story, great everything!
I was given this book by author for an honest review
Awakened is the second book in the Ariya Adams Trilogy by Anna Applegate. It is a fantastic paranormal romance- with vampires, werewolves, witches, supernatural elements, danger, kidnapping, mind games, manipulation, sinister plots, mystery, suspense, drama, secrets/twists, action... and so much more. This book is the second in the series and I highly suggest reading them in the correct sequence to get the most out of the story. I don’t recommend reading this as a standalone, as it is a continuing story that bridges from book to book. As we discovered in book one, Ariya Adams in her senior year at college. She has a great, close-knit group of friends, and is looking forward to her final year. Strange things began to happen, and she started to think that she was going crazy. What she discovers instead is a supernatural world of vampires, werewolves and witches- where she is a direct descendant of a royal bloodline, with a special ‘gift’ that has placed a target on her back. She also discovers her protectors are a lot closer than she could have ever imagined. With her world turned upside down and her feeling for James growing stronger by the minute- will he be able to keep her safe and thwart the sinister plot that has her firmly in its sights? This fast-paced, action packed story should really be read to fully appreciate what a great book/series this is. I did enjoy the first book in the series, ‘Protected’ (4 Stars), but I did have issues with the level of angst and melodrama in it. I am so happy to discover that in this book those issues have been resolved, and I really got to just immerse myself in the story and follow along as it all unfolded. This is such a great read, my favourite so far. It takes the great premise and foundations laid out in book one and takes it to another level. I couldn’t put the book down, I had to know what would happened next, and ended up devouring it all in a few hours. I got to the end and couldn’t wait to continue the story, so I dove right into book #3. This definitely isn’t your typical vampire story and I am so happy to say that it has its own identity, flavour and tone, from a lot of other books in the same genre. In the last book the content seemed more suited to Young Adults- as there was a LOT of ‘teenage Angst’ and it was very light on the romance side. But this book definitely spiced things up a lot more. Ariya and James have an incredible connection and sizzling chemistry. Thankfully the angsty push-pull that really drove me crazy in the last book is not really an issue in this book. The story was exciting, suspenseful, surprising, romantic, and entirely captivating. There are emotional moments, jaw-dropping OMG moments, touching scenes, and heart in my moth moments that had me on the edge of my seat. I loved every minute and I can’t wait to find out what happens in book #3.
This is the second book to the Ariya Adams Trilogy. I have become addicted to this amazing series. I am now hooked to paranormal romance due to this author. You have to read the first book Protected in order to understand what is going on now. When I got this book I started it immediately. I could not put this book down. You can’t help but to fall in love with these characters again. It only took me a few hours to devour this incredible story.
This book starts right where the first one ends. Ariya Adams was your typical Senior in college. She was in her last semester of college when she meets the beautiful James. Ariya was told that she had to be protected due to a special bloodline that runs through her. She is then entered into a fantasy land with vampires, werewolves, and even witches. Ariya is very attracted to James right from the start. Her loves for James gets them into some great danger. Ariya finds herself now running for her and her friends lives. She’s trying to find a way to destroy this evil but Ariya doesn’t realize how powerful this evil can be. Ariya is the key to stopping this battle but she needs to find out how. When she tries to fight her battle she ends up in real great danger. She is taken by the evil that has started it all. Ariya is shocked when she finds out who is making her life a living hell. Will Ariya be able to find the answers she is looking for or will she end up in danger that even James can’t protect her from?
I absolutely loved this book. The storyline has it all romance, suspense, and supernatural. You will fall in love with this incredible couple again. Ariya is much stronger than the beginning. She will do anything to protect the people she loves. James knows he needs to do his job but he can’t stop the feeling he has for Ariya. He will do anything to protect her. The way they care for eachother will make your heart melt. You will also fall for the secondary characters. They bring the story to life especially Riley. These characters have some steamy scenes that will make your temperature rise. This amazing author will keep on the edge of your seat until the very end. I can’t wait to see how the incredible series is going to end.
I received this book by the Author and the “Lovers of Paranormal” Group on Goodreads.com, in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity!
Everyone is back together in this fast paced, action packed must read! Ariya and her Protectors are faced with all sorts of challenges upon arriving back to school after Winter Break. With Emma out if the picture, will Ariya and James have a chance to make their relationship work?
The theme of the first book, Protected, focused on friendship; the theme of this book is love! (I'm such a sappy romantic!) The confusing emotions between Ariya, James, and Riley are too much for one person to handle. In order to protect the ones you love, Ariya has to make several very difficult decisions. How will James and Riley ever forgive her?
"If I ignore him, whoever might be watching won’t know he’s my friend, and then maybe he won’t get hurt."
“You’re my everything.”
“There will never come a day that I don’t feel for you the things I feel now.”
I was pleasantly surprised to find this book was just as good, if not better than the first! I feel even more connected with the characters, while I watched the storyline unravel. I laughed and cried, and tense up in fear for what was coming next. It is a heart wrenching, nail biting, and nerve racking story! It is simply amazing! (And yes, I'm still dreaming about James!)
Sign me up for the last book when it comes out, this Trilogy is amazing!
I received this book in exchange for an honest review (LoP or Lovers of Paranormal. Thank you Ms. Applegate for providing me with Book 1 in addition to Book 2.
Ariya has been dropped into a world full of vampires, werewolves, and witches. She learned that she is a descendant of a long line of innocents whose blood can save not only vampires, but werewolves as well. All these years she's been protected by a special group of vampire Protectors. Awakened is a movie in the making, with action, drama, and of course love. Ariya consistently proves that she is selfless in all that she does. She will take on any danger to protect those she loves. This a great story about a strong character who learns she is an important tool in the preservation of a supernatural race. Now which race will win?
oka, omg omg omg.... okay, so this was a story part two of a trilogy that I don't ever want to end, but really want to read the next part of as soon as I can get my hands on it!!! Ariya Adams has lived a ....strange life.... and the characters and everything and OMG there were so many times I held my breath FOR THEM!!!! .... I so wanted to hold Riley... but I really want him to have love, so I am hoping I get to see him more in the third book!! All in all, I wish I could live in this world, and be Ariya because James is mmm mmm good.... :)
Awakened (Ariya Adams Trilogy #2) by Anna Applegate was a fast pace read that at times has you filling the pages like a madd person.
Sucking us back into this unique tale of magic, vampires, werewolves and ever supernatural creature under the sun, it isn't long before a new threat makes it's appearances known. Kicking this story back into high gear, our cast is faced with a darkness that could ruin them all. This is the book in the series, and is a continuation story, I suggest you read the first book, to get a feel as to what is going on.
Okay I was on board with this, and I was more on board with the romance and love that Ariya and James share. But, as unique and different as this is form other books in the genre, making the villain super powerful and you know, old, (I say it that way because there is always a old evil that was once defeated, but somehow comes back), for me took away, just a little bit from the development of the story. These types of over powered characters, for me, work better in a stand- a-lone. Once you put them in a series, I find that you just end up needing to create more power OP characters to beat the last in every book. Don't get me wrong the writing and plot of this second book is pretty incredible, I just wasn't keen on this type villain.
Overall, I found that this book was more mature then the last, it's moving away from how a YA would read to a NA. The romance was hot, the characters were less annoying and more adult (not saying adults can't bee annoying) and just the over all tone and feel of the story felt like it was evolving as Ariya grows and matures. I feel bad for Ariya, being what she is and having a rare ability and then having everything/everyone trying to take it. I foresee that things are just going to get harder. But it was her strong will and ability to kept going when everything seemed lose, is what kept me in this book. Ariya is a excellent character and she's gets better and better with each page. I can't wait to see how different she is at the end of this series.
Take my high recommend that you will love this book, this series.
Awakened (Ariya Adams Trilogy #2) By Anna Applegate Rated 5 stars
I was excited to start reading this! I had missed these characters and I was curious about what the author had in store for them this time. Ariya, Caroline, Nick, James and Riley all are back in the second book of the series. This one (like the last) ran me through so many emotions. I was left with my mouth hanging open in shock and dismay more than once. I felt the love of the characters and the hostility of others. The Opening scene was great! I laughed and giggled right along with the girls.
Riley and James are still in this weird relationship/love triangle with Ariya. Caroline is still the goofy best friend but we do see another side of her in this book. Ariya has many struggles and I really feel for her in this book. She goes through so so much. It just proves how strong of character she really is. After reading certain parts my heart was crushed! So many things have come to light in this story. Again I feel for Ariya...how can she trust again. But then again does she make the right decision after what happened to her? Is her heart over ruling her head too often? Or is her head overruling her heart?
I really don’t understand James’ mother (so frustrated i mean i know she’s a baddie but still). She is so mean and trying to wipe out her husbands entire race. That way she can have all the power and own the world. Does she not love her son and husband! How could she join the enemy camp? Grrr! Oh and Her minion Tristan...is one scary dude!
These book have it all! Love, Betrayal, Adventure, paranormal beings, Angst and some humor. Everyone should be reading these stories! I am speechless over some of the things that happened in this book! I absolutely can not wait to read the next in the series. This is one wild ride! What could happen next?
Awakened is Book 2 in the Ariya Adams Trilogy. These are not standalones so start with book 1, Protected.
This story is a continuation with the crazy werewolves and the protector vampires. However, as we soon learn, no one is to be trusted outside of the four, Ariya, James, Nick and Caroline.
Ariya has the very cool power of being human but having blood that can bring vampires and werewolves back to life. As if learning about paranormal beings isn’t enough, knowing that there are forces and beings that want your blood for evil is enough to make anyone a little nervous. A “good witch” comes to help Ariya and her friends, but I like to call her the Riddler because while she gave them clues she didn’t give them the answers. This adventure will be interesting to read.
James and Ariya have so much passion for each other. I can’t wait to see if they ever work it out and just be open with each other. I am sure sparks will fly!! Caroline and Nick are secondary characters and the best friends of Ariya and James. They are so deserving of their own book, because they have some chemistry and secrets of their own. Poor Riley, Ariya’s other best friend. He doesn’t get the girl, gets thrown into fantasy land with vampires and werewolves but yet he stays a good, nice guy. Can’t wait to see what happens with him in the next book.
Applegate keeps you turning the page by including story telling from ancient characters like the “good witch”. The mystery and adventure keeps you wondering what could happen next.
I’m still wondering if there is more to her powers. It seems like she should be able to do more, you know because saving vampires and werewolves just isn’t enough. Maybe book three will have all the answers.
Awakened (Book 2 in the Ariya Adams Trilogy) By: Anna Applegate 5 out of 5 stars
The story Awakened (Book 2 in the Ariya Adams Trilogy) by Anna Applegate is a paranormal/romance book. It is the next book in a series and I loved reading it just as much as the first one. It starts out with Ariya still adjusting to a world that she had never know existed. Her attraction to her Protector, James, is stronger than ever. While these two are very close James still hesitates to take their relationship to the next level. Then a new threat appears and danger is once more a reality for Ariya and her friends. She is forced to make decisions that will affect those she cares for the most. Will she be able to keep her friends safe? Will Ariya be able to survive this new danger? I love the character of Ariya. She is a strong, independent woman. She does make decisions that frustrate those who are there to protect her. While she has been asked not to put herself in danger, when others may be hurt she always thinks of their safety, not her own. This story has Ariya experiencing fear, doubts and wondering what the future holds. Many of the characters in this story are ones that were introduced in the first book and there are also new ones. Some of them are helpful and some of them are evil and manipulative. This story has action, danger, magic, vampires, and romance. It is a page-turner that had me not wanting to put it down until I had read the final page. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series to see what happens next. This story does include mature content and would be recommended for those 18 years of age or older.
Awakened (Ariya Adams Trilogy #2) by Anna Applegate 4 out 0f 5 stars Awakened the Ariya Adams Trilogy is book two written by Ms. Applegate and the second book that I have read by this author. I really enjoyed reading more about Ariya and James and the gang. The characters are well written, and I still enjoyed the storyline, but I thought the story just dragged on…. I mean don’t get me wrong there were some great scenes that made me feel a-part of the story.
Ariya Adams only recently discovered the supernatural world is real, and that world wants something from her.
Despite her determination, she will be faced with a pain greater than she ever imagined. Even the most powerful abilities have limitations, and this time, the power of her blood might not be enough to save those she loves most. Will her Protector/Boyfriend keep her safe? Can Aryia win the battle when her reality is being tested? If all else is lost, will Ariya survive? I enjoyed this story and cant wait to read the conclusion to this trilogy… By Tracy
Awakened by Anna Applegate is the second book in her Ariya Adams Trilogy and what a great follow up in this unique series. Each book in this series can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend reading them in order so that the characters get to tell their full story to the reader. Continuing the story of Ariya, and her delving into the supernatural world, and is met with how powerful she is. With the ability to heal werewolves and vampires while only using a few drops of her power, she is a highly sought after commodity and her life is constantly in danger. Her boyfriend, a Protector had been able to keep her safe in the past but there are new dangers on the horizon that even he may not be powerful enough to save her from. Will Ariya be able to continue to save those who need to be saved while staying safe on her own? The more that her powers are tested will she be able to stand under the pressure or will she fall to those who want to harm her? Applegate is a newer to me author, this trilogy being the first in my experience of her writing, but I have really enjoyed everything that she has brought forth so far. Her writing style is unique, her characters are full bodied and the world that she created for these characters to live in was so life like I felt like I was in the story with them. If you are looking for a new paranormal series, or even just wanting to add to your reading list and trying something new this is someone that you need to add to your reader! I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
Awakened is the seconded book in this series written by Anna Applegate. The pace of this second book has improved over the first one and is much better following along the story line. There were a couple of spots where the story slowed down but overall the pace of the book is what it should be in my eyes. The unraveling of some twists continues while we discover that there are still some secrets we knew nothing about.
Ariya has come along but she is still a difficult character to like. I just don't understand why she can't for the life of her EVER listen to any instructions. Why does she always think she knows better than everyone else even when it is crystal clear that she does not? I get it she wants to protect the ones she loves and does not want them to get hurt because of her, but she needs to get it she is not the authority on what is going on and if she doesn't listen people get hurt because of THAT and not because of them trying to protect her, which is what they signed up for in the first place. She is not a character I can relate to and I wish she would finally grow up already!
Thankfully her friends are still characters I enjoy or else this would be difficult to read. Of course Ariya has her moments but she needs more of them !!!
I am still intrigued with this series and since I have made it this far I will finish since I really want to know how to author will resolve this situation with Audrey.
Awakened (Book 2 in the Ariya Adams Trilogy) by Anna Applegate is the second book in her Ariya Adams Trilogy. This book can be read as a stand alone but I highly suggest you read the previous book to help enhance your enjoyment of this trilogy and you get to know the characters a little bit more. I enjoyed this book more then the first one. This author has the ability to pull me right into her story is ease and keep me engaged until the end. Her characters are creative, connectable and lovable. This paranormal romance has some twists and turns that will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat just waiting to see what will happen next. In this installment Ariya has just discovered that the supernatural world is real and they are out for her blood. She has the ability to heal werewolves and vampires with just a couple of drops of her power. Her boyfriend-Protector has been able to keep her safe in the past but now she is exposed to something he is not so sure about. Will they forbidden relationship make it even more dangerous for them? As her reality is tested, will she be able to save those that she needs to? I enjoyed how these characters are strong and their powers are just as strong. Ariya grew so much in this book from the previous one that I can't wait to see her in the third book. I also loved the way that their relationship grew stronger in this one. They have such great chemistry and I love seeing them together. I highly recommend this book. Find out if Ariya will be able to save herself and others that she cares for.
Awakened is the second book in the Ariya Adams trilogy by author Anna Applegate, this book picks up right where the first book Protected ends, so I recommend reading this series in order. This book was fast paced and action packed not to mention filled with all sorts of supernatural happenings. Ariya is weeks away from her twenty second birthday and mere months away from graduation. The strange happenings seem to be settled and life goes on. Ariya feels safe with her group of friends and the Protectors. Her feelings for James are growing stronger with the time they are spending together so when they head to his family home Ariya isn’t prepared for what happens. It turns out the evil they have been running from is closer than they think. While I liked the first book it did move rather slowly. Awakened definitely picked up the pace as well as the interest level. As a reader I was on the edge of my seat for most of the story especially once Ariya was taken, it kept me guessing on what was really going on and I couldn’t wait to see if she would get out of this predicament. My only pet peeve was that Ariya isn’t a very strong character in my mind, she whines constantly which honestly got on my nerves, but I will say she was represented better in this book than the last. I still love James, Nick, Caroline and Riley though, as secondary characters they really carry the story. I am looking forward to seeing what happens in the third and final book.
Awakened is the second novel in the Ariya Adams series by Anna Applegate. This is my second novel by this author.
Ariya is still adjusted to her new world. As well as her attraction to her Protector, James, who hesitates to progress their relationship further.
“It’s not just James that is a vampire either, Caroline and her boyfriend Nick are also vampires. The three of them are part of a select group, designated to protect members of a bloodline endowed with the ability to heal vampires who have been staked. Yep, along with discovering that vampires, werewolves, and warlocks exist, I also discovered I was part of this bloodline. I was a descendant of a long line of innocents who were watched over until they either had a child of their own and turned, or had a child of their own and remained human without the gift of healing. I wasn’t thrilled at the having a child part of the equation, but I wasn’t known for being much of a rule-follower in this new life. So for now, I could relax.“
When a threat arrives, Ariya will have to make decisions to protect those she loves. Will she able to keep her friends safe?
I really enjoyed the progression of the story with the characters and as well the new threat they all have to deal with. I felt Ariya mature more based on what she had to do in order to keep people safe even if meant endangering herself in the process.
I give Awakened (Book 2 in the Ariya Adams Trilogy) by Anna Applegate, 5 stars. **This review may contain spoilers from book 1 of the series**
Well, now the secret is out. Not only does Ariya know what her friends really are, she also knows what's so special about herself. But it seems like her secret has gotten out and now there are those that would do anything to get her. Not to mention that it seems like someone from James' past is back too. But that's impossible, isn't it?
This book picks up where book one left off. Although Ariya is still in college, this book is more about the supernatural side of things and less about college life. She is coming to terms with what she is and what her friends are. The struggle is definitely obvious in the decisions she makes. The author makes you feel many things in this book. There is humor, love, heart-wrenching anguish. You are taken on a roller coaster and you willing go. I will not give anything away, but some much happens in this book and there are many surprises I did not see coming.
In my opinion, this book is even better than the first. We get to know the characters from book one better, plus meet some new ones. The story gets deeper and darker. A supernatural romantic suspense that I highly recommend to the New Adult age group and higher. I do think book one should be read first so that this one makes more sense.
This is the second book in the Ariya Adams Trilogy from Anna Applegate. This was a great follow up to Protected! Awakened has that formula of suspense, romance, comedy, and adventure that hooked me in Protected.
Throughout the book, I was on the edge of my seat, holding my breath, and often yelling at my kindle and telling everyone to go away. Yes, it was that good. I couldn't put it down. My heart broke for Ariya time and time again. However, seeing the way she grew and changed without losing her core was incredibly touching and always made me smile even when my eyes had tears in them.
The love between Ariya and James in this book was amazing. They are such a great couple and proved once and for all that love can overcome anything. I think that’s my favorite thing about Anna Applegate’s books. They show us that love (for friends, lovers, or yourself) will always conquer adversity.
Now Aubrey what can I say but that woman makes me want to smack someone, but I won’t. I’m not going to give spoilers, but I bet that after you’re done with this book you’ll agree with me.
Overall, Awakened is an amazing continuation of Ariya’s story, and I’m looking forward to its third installment. Don't take my word for it get a copy today for yourself. Happy Reading
Awakened by Anna Applegate is the second instalment in the Ariya Adams trilogy. This book takes right off from the first, with everything seeming safe and cosy, until trouble comes knocking at the door again. I really enjoyed the second book, as it expanded the world and answered the questions I had from the first. I really enjoyed the characters developing and growing more and more, as the story progressed. I still think Ariya is a little head strong, but what heroine isn’t. I’m still not completely in love with the concept of bloodlines, and that Ariya’s line has basically been used as highly praised breeding mules. I find that concept to be very problematic, especially given today’s social climate. So it is refreshing when Ariya puts her foot down to it, and doesn’t just accept she has to have a child. As it’s her body and her choice. I also enjoyed when Ariya would put her foot down to James and communicate with him. Whereas James tends to bottle it all up and doesn’t think it should concern Ariya (when it very well does!). I’m excited to see how this trilogy will wrap up, as its reminded me of my love for the Vampire Diaries and how silly but also ridiculously entertaining all the drama is. A solid 4/5 star book.
a great read about things being out of your control. Ariya Adams and her friends are recovering from the events of the previous novel over the holidays while trying to discover if an enemy is still alive or not. while on the trail, secrets are uncovered and Ariya and Riley are held captive by a mysterious and powerful woman to fulfil her demands. will james be able to find her time or will he be too late? a great read. well developed plot with twists and turns. well developed characters like Riley caring for Ariya while struggling with a difficult situation. a great example of improving a series with the sequel with raised stakes and a more terrifying villain. I also loved the visual detail of the mansion and its interior décor and its detail in chandeliers and white walls. I loved the gothic nature of the mansion in the middle of nowhere inhabited by a creepy woman. I also loved the visual detail of the house in the snow making it seem magical and the simple cottage nature with the desk and lamp and the map on the wall. a great example of building on the magical elements such as the dreams. overall, a great read and I would give it four stars.
Awakened by Anna Applegate is the second book in her Ariya Adams trilogy. As compelling as the first this series is certainly ramping up to be a brilliant read.
Ariya is still trying to wrap her head around all she has learned - about the supernatural world, about vampires and werewolves, about herself. She is also trying to stay out of harms way, but given just how much everyone wants her this is easier said than done. But with James there to protect her surely nothing at all could go wrong, right? When a new evil force rises and comes for her she starts to question just how safe she is. And when she finds herself fighting to save those she loves again Ariya night learn the hard way that she any always protect everyone, sometimes some people can’t be saved.
I really enjoyed delving back into this world. He continuation of the series has been well done. The story was just as intriguing and kept me reading to the end. The characters held all of the same allure for me as the first book - something which can be hard to do when you are revisiting the same characters. I am excited to see how this trilogy will conclude.
An absolutely fantastic book, a great sequel to the first book in the Ariya Adams series. Although important things are explained, I would recommend reading the first book in the series - Protected - before his one. This is because in the first book we are able to really get to know the characters and therefore there is familiarity when beginning the second book because the reader already knows the characters and their history well. Although this book falls between two others, the narrative was still exciting, thrilling and unpredictable! We see Ariya go through some difficult experiences which deal with very realistic consequences in terms of her mental health and this is executed sensitively and successfully. Again, the use of the first person is brilliant because the reader is able to understand why Ariya does what she does (especially in regards to her and James’ relationship) however sometimes I would have liked to have seen James’ perspective of some issues and so I would have loved a shift in perspective. However, overall I really enjoyed this book, I was captured throughout, I couldn’t stop reading and I am already reading the third book!
The series keeps getting better! Awakened (Book 2 in the Ariya Adams Trilogy) (Volume 2) is a paranormal/romance. Ariya still can’t believe that the world she’s in ever existed. Let’s just say she’s adjusting to it. It doesn’t help that she still wants her Protector. James bad, but he’s not willing to be in a relationship with her. This puts their close bond in a precarious position. Herself and her friends are in danger once again and Ariya is forced to make decisions that will completely alter their lives forever. Can she do what she needs to do and still maintain her friendships? Will James ever look at her like a woman than as someone he has to protect? These characters in this book are so great! As you read you will be reintroduced to familiar characters that feel like old friends and find new ones along the way. I love that Amma Applegate can write with characters that even though they are the bad guys, you still kind of like them. This book had me from the first page and took me on a rollercoaster ride right to the end. I am eagerly waiting to read the next book in this series.
“Awakened” (book 2 Ariya Adam Trilogy) written by Anna Applegate was a good story which followed nicely with the first book. The author made a smooth connection between books so that the author could pick up this book and just continue reading as if there was no break in the story. A well written story. I loved the cover as I did with the first cover. The story definitely had the paranormal element going on along with romance and suspense to spice things up. The author used this story to write more detail about the history of the vampires and werewolves that Ariya has to face with Mr. Sexy James watching over her. As a reader, you have to feel for James because he has been Ariya’s protector but feels deeply for her in a romantic way! Questions arise whether they can handle the relationship?! Ariya still has questions about what power she discovered in the first story! Feeling overwhelmed by everything going on. It’s not everyday or everyone that has the same power as Ariya. While reading this story I experienced lots of emotions! I found the book to be a must read only after the first book. I am giving the story 5 stars.
Anna Applegate never cease to amaze me! I absolutely am in love with these series. "Awakened" was just as good as the first book but compacted with more action and passion! I was on the edge of my seat so many times. I am pretty sure my husband is happy to finally gain some feeling back in his arm.
One thing that caught me off guard was that when I thought something was going to happen, it didn't happen. I would swear up and down it would and it was so unpredictable, which is something I really forward to in books. Something to keep my guessing and at the edge of my seat. I personally don't mind cliches and predictable plots, but after awhile they get boring and tiring. So this series is such a fresh breath of air and I am so happy that I have discovered this amazing author.

I also wanted to touch base on my past review for the first book in this series, I went through each character and stated what I loved and disliked about them (if I disliked something). I still feel the same as I do, nothing has changed. James is still my favorite character and I am so in love with him. He is still my bookish husband <3
Awakened is the second book in the Ariya Adams trilogy by Anna Applegate and another great read. Ariya has just learned that the supernatural world is really real, and that life has totally changes because also learns that her blood can heal werewolves and vampires. While this gives her a lot or power it also puts her in A LOT OF danger. James is her boyfriend who happens to also be a vampire and the one to protect her. Suddenly a new evil comes into their live and is more powerful than anything they have crossed yet. Anna is tested throughout this book and she has to battle evil to save herself, her friends and even James. Ariya, has grown so much in this book, which shows me again what a wonderful author Anna Applegate truly is. I could not put this book down and simply cannot wait to read more in the series. I have noticed am I able to read her books and actually envision what they are seeing and how they are living which is very important to me. The attention to detail is very important to be as a reader! I give this book 4 stars.
Awakened is book 2 in the Ariya Adams Trilogy by Anna Applegate. Awakened picks up right where book 1 Protected ends. With the beginning of Awakened it recaps a lot of information from book 1 and that made the story go a little slower for me but once it picked up I enjoyed it. Ariya is an interesting character and she has a rare personality where she is always putting others before herself. Every likes to think they are this way however Ariya has done it time and time again, usually ending up putting her own life at risk. James, Riley, Nick and Caroline all make up her inner circle and they make quite a funny, yet serious group. They have a lot to overcome and Ariya and James both need to stop with their fears and just voice their thoughts, feelings and desires. There are a few new characters in this story and the push and pull with the storyline has you wondering what else is going to go wrong and how the story ends. I can’t wait to get into book 3 Sacrificed and see how it actually plays out. The ending of Awakened leaves you with just enough to have endless outcomes.
Awakened (Ariya Adams Trilogy #2) By Anna Applegate 4 stars
Since finishing the first book in this series I have been really looking forward to starting this one and I wasn’t disappointed! It carries on from the first book so these books should definitely be read in order! Oh my gosh! Ariya! What is going on with this girl!! Just when you think everything is going well another fabulous twist comes along for her! The whole way through I was wondering whether or not she could or would cope with everything that was being thrown at her but there is one thing with Ariya – her strength and determination! She is such a strong character and a great female lead for this series. I love her and James together but Ariya just keeps putting up road blocks along the way! I do desperately want them to be together though! As with the first book this one has left me wanting more and I can’t wait to dive straight in to the third book in this series for more from these great characters and more wonderful writing from this fantastic author!
Awakened by Anna Applegate is the second in the Ariya Adams trilogy and is definitely a force to be reckoned with in its own right. I think you’d definitely need to read the first book to get the background to the characters and all their supernatural goings on but this book stands alone as a great read. Ariya is now fully immersed in the paranormal world and has the addition of hot boyfriend James to help her come to terms with her powers. The theme of friendship is strong again in this novel, and the theme of love – however it manifests- is also ever-present. I liked the anticipation of the relationship between Ariya and James which made for hot reading at times. I did think Ariya felt a bit too much responsibility to her friends at times and I felt sorry for her. After whipping through this book in a couple of sittings, I am eagerly anticipating the third instalment – although I may need a couple of days to catch my breath first! Fab book.
Awakened by Anna Applegate is another 5-star book!! This is the second book in the Ariya Adams Trilogy, I would suggest reading this series in order as this book starts off where the first one left off. Just like book one this book is so intense, incredibly captivating and so unexpected. There were so many twist and turns that had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I got so caught up in this amazing world that Anna created that I read this book in one sitting. I completely forgot about the outside world as I followed along with this amazing story.
Anna Applegate has quickly been added to my list of favorite paranormal authors, this series is completely original with it’s never a dull moment storyline. I love these characters so much and I feel so invested in their story that I can’t wait to read book 3 to see how Ariya’s story plays out. I would absolutely recommend this book and series to anyone looking for their next paranormal read!!
