B Smith has escaped from the murderous clown Mr. Dowling, only to find herself trapped by someone she had once thought of as an ally. As B learns more about the twisted history of the zombie virus, she prepares to make a final stand against her enemies-even if it means making the ultimate sacrifice. The final thrilling installment of Darren Shan's Zom-B series is sure to knock you dead!
Librarian's note: Also writes books for adults under the name Darren Dash. And in the past he has released books for adults under the names D.B. Shan and Darren O'Shaughnessy.
Darren Shan (born July 2, 1972 in London, England) is the pen name of the Irish author Darren O'Shaughnessy, as well as the name of the protagonist of his book series The Saga of Darren Shan, also known as The Cirque Du Freak Series in the United States. He is the author of the series The Demonata, The Saga of Larten Crepsley, and Zom-B. He has also released the stand-alone novel, The Thin Executioner, and the stand-alone short novels, Koyasan, and Hagurosan. Plus, for adults, he released The City Trilogy (originally under the name of D.B. Shan), and Lady of the Shades..
At this point, I've gotten numb to the story. B Smith has made a lot of personal growth - which is great. She's no longer falling into her father's racist footsteps and she's developed such a spine that I'm more than a little proud of her.
It's just this plot has gotten so convoluted that I don't really know what's up and what's down anymore. There have been so many backstabbings and betrayals that I honestly have no idea which was the good side (if there ever was one). It almost has a Maze Runner feel - every time we figure out something, turns out there was a bigger plan all along and B played perfectly into that trap.
The other main pain was, as always, Darren Shan kills off many of the original characters and their deaths come so rapidly that I don't really react anymore. IZ preemptively refuse to form any emotional connection to any character - after all, they're just going to die.
I did like the epilogue though - but it left too many questions and not enough answers to really wrap up the series.
Audiobook Comments Read by Emma Gavin - and she did a rather nice job.

This is a comprehensive, non-spoilery review of the series as a whole:
I am very emotional right now. At the beginning of the series, I was thinking that maybe I am now too old for Darren Shan's books. After all, the first book of his was more than 9 years ago. But let me tell you, I was so wrong. I loved this series for so many reasons, such as the great plot twists, clever dialogue and character names, and the amazing characters.
Can we just talk about the awesomeness of B and Holy Moly and the great visual descriptions and personalities of each and every character? I haven't seen characters so creepy and so diverse in one series, and I really appreciate the efforts Mr. Shan has gone through.
B and Holy Moly are just some of my favorite book characters EVER...
But the biggest reason why I loved this series so much is Darren Shan's underlying social commentary and themes. You learn so much about the world through this series. That sounds so weird for a zombie apocalypse series, doesn't it?
That's exactly why this series is so special. The issues of racism, politics, and sacrifice make a great chunk of the overall story and they are handled beautifully. Once again, thank you Mr. Shan for exceeding all my expectations.
And finally...the ending. The ending was a great one to be honest. It made me very emotional and it was very well-thought out. Darren Shan is one of the best writers out there, believe me. I have been privileged to have met such an intelligent man multiple times and I will continue to read his rich, diverse works in the future because if I've learned one thing, it is that Darren Shan's books are for everyone. Kids. Teenagers. Adults. As long as you're a reader, you're bound to be filled with awe, excitement, and appreciation.
I just finished the last book in the Zom-B series i-e Zom-B Goddess and I loved this series.
Rating: 4/5 🌟
So If you guys haven't read the first 11 books then stop reading this coz It might spoil those books for you.
The story starts where the 11th book ended, when B Smith finally find out the reality of Dr. Oystein, that he is the real culprit. Everything changes for her. Dr Oystein tell her the reality and with the help of his nephew i-e owl man got hold of her and force her to give Schlesinger-10 to them.
I don't wanna spoil the ending so read the whole series to find out. .
Like I said in my precious reviews, these books are really gruesome. They contain a lot of blood shed and some really creepy illustrations. .
"You're a goddess," Dr. Oystein says softly. "You will bring death to this world, as many gods and goddesses of legend did."
This was a bitter sweet end. On one had, I'm glad I got this far, reading all of these stories with B and her friends and odd people she met, but I'm not sure this was quite the ending I had envisioned so many books ago.
Well slap me in the face, that was a good ending :] Wow. I love Holy Moly so much, I did think the first half of the book was basically the 'plan' repeated over and over in a different way but other than that a fantastic ending to a fantastic series.
It's the end for B as she has now discovered that Dr. Oystein is the brother of Mr. Dowling and wants to wipe out humanity. He's your typical super-villain really, having the much used in fiction believe that humanity has ruined the world and he wants to replace it with something better. B is under the hypnotic control of Owl Man and it looks like either Oystein or Dowling will win. Can B stop them both and save the world?
The book starts off fairly slowly, having Dr. Oystein explain the truth of his intentions and his past with Mr. Dowling. This isn't that fun to read but is necessary to properly explain the backstory of the previous nine books.
The middle section is pretty good. After veering away from the zombie side of things for much of the last few books there's a brilliant seen when most of the surviving characters are stuck in a tunnel with a group of zombies. Many of these surviving characters don't last too long here and there's a lot of gruesome deaths.
The ending was particularly good and not at all what I was expecting. I'm not going to spoil it for you but if you think this is young adult fiction and therefore everything will be resolved then you may be surprised.
The book does a good job towards the end of reflecting on the themes of the series, like racism. B almost sets out a way to behave and to be a good human being and it's interesting to see a zombie book actually be quite deep amongst all the death and destruction.
A good end to a really fun series. I wonder what Darren Shan has planned next?
Zo. BAM. Love it!
First off - who else has looked at the cover and been reminded of Imperator Furiosa?
Second off - At last this book reveals the true motivations behind the Dowlings, who are now playing quite the Gambit Roulette with each other's viruses, and of course B winds up caught in the middle.
Third off - wow. I did NOT see that ending coming. Even down to the wire, Shan's got tons of surprises up his sleeve, and he deploys them by the megaton.
Last off - I'm really bummed we're done with this 'verse, but knowing Shan, he's got something equally killer lined up to astound and amaze his well-deserved legions of fans.
Went through such a whirl of emotions and shocks while reading this series. Some parts really took me by surprise, others were just sad through and through.
And you do wonder, what happens next? What happened after the ending? Was it really what they were fighting for?
Just a quick, thrill packed series as always Mr. Shan.
Thank You Mr. Shan! As a high school librarian, I was pleased that both the avid teenaged readers and I enjoyed the story of B Smith. Even more thrilling , though, is the fact that reluctant teenaged readers will check out one of your books and get hooked!
Best Part: Holy Moly! Worst Part: Too short. Thoughts Had: Attack babies go!
Conclusion
Continuing the Series: n/a :( Recommending: yes
Short Review: I don't know why it took so long for me to finish this series, they're not big books at all so i have no reason. Holy Moly is back and i just can't help but giggle thinking about all these soldiers getting attacking by freaking babies, it's amazing.

Reading a zombie story aimed at teenagers is always interesting as it can’t rely on gore, sex and violence in the same way that many adult ones do. This series proved that just because it’s target audience is younger doesn’t mean it could not make you feel queasy.
With great descriptive writing and a style that is direct and colourful this series takes you to an apocalypse from the point of view of a zombie who is ‘alive’ not just undead. It also broaches topics regarding prejudice and human selfishness With out being preachy.
Personal Response: I liked the book Zom-B Goddess because of how the story truly unfolds. The book had so many turnouts I did not expect. The books ending wasn't what I would've had it end.
Plot: B has found out that Dr. Oystein is the evil madman who wants world dominion. B is captured yet again by another enemy. B is held under the control of Owlman. Owlman controls B with his words commanding her todo certain things either if she wants to or not. Dr. Oystein takes B to another lab where there are embryos lined up. Oystein explains that they need a source of brains once humans are dead. B is held up in a room controlled to stay in by Owlman. She is later taken to a meet up with leaders that she has encountered once before. Dr. Oystein has the survivors fooled that they're attacking Mr. Dowling to get the human virus. They start the attack in the sewers leading to Mr. Dowling. As they battle there way into Mr. Dowling's lair their army is flanked by hundreds of zombies advancing towards them. They make it inside with a vast amount of soldiers dead. Once inside his lair, the two armies fight. B is still under Owlman's command. B can send messages to HolyMoly to do what she commands. She commands it to attack Owlman scratching his tongue and vocal cords making him unable to hold commands against B. B goes over and takes the vial that kills all zombies from Oystein when hes not looking. She opens the first vial, while the fighting stops and gazes to B. Oystein laughs and explains that the vial that kills zombies really kills all humans while the other is the opposite. B decides that she doomed humans and opens the other vial that was lodged inside her. They all run from the liquid making it outside. B hops into a groove tube, to only survive another thousands years, when HolyMoly opens the tube making it a festival of her actions.
Recommendation: I recommend that the person should expect that Dr. Oystein will betray her. That they should not expect the ending that happened. I think that the reader should read the other books before this one.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
An author I love, wrote a very long series, about teenagers being able to morph into all kinds of animals because of a box that a member of an alien race had given them. It was over 60 books and I read each and everyone faithfully and could hardly wait for the next book to come out.
Then, the last book in the series came out and it was SO TERRIBLE! I mean it. I was so disappointed and I was not the only one. It made me dread endings of series as they usually weren't very good.
But this one is so different! IT IS SO SO SO SO SO SO GOOD!!!
I mean, I read the entire book in one night. I couldn't even go to sleep as I would read a few chapters, keep telling myself it was time for sleep; toss and turn for about half an hour, and then go back to reading it!
And the last two chapters just blew me away!
And the last chapter! Open ended and left to the reader's imagination and interpretation!
The story starts by Dr. Oystien and owlman busting into Becky and Dennys hideout then they take Becky hostage and force her to attack mr.dowling and the mutants later Becky finds out that she tricked and was forced to open the wrong vial and now she and all the humans and zombies will die but Becky miraculously survives by staying in a groove tube for about 1000 years
My favorite character in this book is Dr. Oystien because he manages to trick Becky again by forcing her to open the wrong vial and causing all of the humans to die, but I like Becky because in a counter to Dr. Oystien tricking her she opened sleshinger 10 which actually caused the zombies to die not the other way around. My favorite part of the story is when Becky opened Sleshinger 10 in a counter to Dr. Oystien tricking her to open Clemets 13 The human killing virus. Which caused everything to die except for the babies and Becky.
This series went downhill for me a few books ago when it felt like everything was just being strung out, but this was a pretty satisfying finale, and I think my kids will like it. It starts a little slow with a LOT of info-dump at the beginning to explain why everything is happening, but there's still action, plot twists, and (ew) lots of gore. I like that the author touches again on themes like racism, prejudice, etc...those were the books I liked best in the series (probably because I'm reading them as an adult and looking for a little bit more than zombies eating brains and ripping people apart). I'll miss B and her crazy world.
For a finale, there was a whole lot of talking for the first hundred pages or so... Also, I don't know how I feel about the ending, just because it worked doesn't mean I like it, maybe because I feel its not the route I envisioned the series might go down when I first began reading. Overall, books 10-12 are still quick and enjoyable reads that kept me hooked, but I feel they were the weakest plot and action wise. B and Holy Moly remained amazing, but unfortunately the book just felt almost anticlimactic to me after the previous two books of build up. I wanted to love it, but I can't, though the series as a whole is fantastic and I would recommend it!
Can't believe that's the end of the series. 12 books, which I've been with from the start. I wished I'd read them when they were all published, because they're all short and not really memorable by themselves. I'll probably need to re-read them all so I can piece everything together. I'd kind of expected , but so did not expect So cruel, Shan, but so good!
Všetky Zom-B-čky mali takú kolísavú kvalitu - niektoré diely výborné, niektoré totálne nudné, jeden alebo dva fantastický a zvyšok taký priemer. Posledná časť to ukončila veľkým štýlom s hromadou krvi a umierania a fakt šialeným záverom.
Čítala som sériu tak, ako postupne vychádzala, takže ten diel-dva trashy zombie série občas bodli fajn, ale inak to nie je zďaleka také originálne a pútavé, aby ste si sadli a zhltli všetkých 12 dielov naraz. Ľutujem, že som to čítala? Nie. Ale neodporúčam. 8/10 pre tento diel a 6/10 pre celú sériu.
This is the last book in the series and it was really satisfying on a whole to me when I finished the book. The book ending had more of a hopeful outlook of the situations that came before in the previous 11 books and it seems that there could be a spin-off series/a series two that will come after this one as it left on a cliffhanger that made you wanting more in the best way possible. I was a bit sad as well because of a lot of my favourite characters where killed off - but I still loved it!
When I first started reading this series a few years ago I made a stupid comment about how Shan was making it into a big good guys vs. bad guys showdown, but I should have known better. Overall, this was a fun conclusion to a great YA series you can get through so quickly. I would give it to kids to read as it teaches a lot of valuable lessons without being didactic (B's arc alone is amazing) and it has a bizzare yet engaging plot.
