USA Today Bestselling Author Carrie Pulkinen has always been fascinated with things that go bump in the night. Of course, when you grow up next door to a cemetery, the dead (and the undead) are hard to ignore. Pair that with her passion for writing and her love of a good happily-ever-after, and becoming a paranormal romance author seems like the only logical career choice.
Before she decided to turn her love of the written word into a career, Carrie spent the first part of her professional life as a high school journalism and yearbook teacher. She loves red wine and chocolate, and in her free time, she likes to read, take pictures, and spend time with her family.
TO CATCH A SPIRIT by Carrie Pulkinen is a paranormal contemporary romance that pairs two unique characters in an emotionally charged romance and ghost story.
Allison Gray is a psychic who works to help heal people, cleanse antiques of trapped spiritual essence and is afraid of ghosts after a failed ghost-busting assignment. While attending a party with her best friend, Tina, Allison is immediately struck with emotions of loneliness and despair emanating from their host. She wants nothing to do with the new playboy billionaire in town. Instead, she goes to console a crying woman sitting on the stairs only to have her disappear right before her eyes.
Logan Mitchell is the playboy billionaire throwing the charity party. Logan has moved to Detroit to start out on his own and away from his controlling father. Underneath the shell, Logan is hiding being an empath who has no control over his gift, which has led to attacks of OCD symptoms and other problems. When he sees Allison, he knows she is different and he can’t stay away even with a frightening recurring dream, which is the reason he doesn’t do more than one night stands. Before he gets the chance to introduce himself, she runs out the door.
I loved Allison and Logan. Their relationship was immediate, but it was believable because of their gifts. The author wrote about OCD, fears and suicide with great empathy. The H/h were sympathetic and not just caricatures. The sex scenes were hot and steamy, but never overdone. Both of their best friends were also realistic and fully fleshed out. There were a few times that the story slowed down and was a little repetitive, but overall it was well written. The plotline is predictable, but with the handling of the H/h’s gifts, it is still very entertaining and well worth reading.

Logan (H) billionaire empath with Daddy issues, anger, depression and suicidal tendencies. Allison (h) a psychic empath good girl recovering from a ghostbusting stint at a mental hospital a year ago. Insta-empath/love/lust connection, a ghost in the H's house (he didn't know before he bought it), lots of back and forth that eventually seemed as if the H was emasculated at about 82%. This one just didn't fully work for me. The next book continues with the H/h best friends who hook up, fall in love, and need H/h because of a haunted house.
I don't like best friends who constantly tell the heroine that she should just sleep around. That it's necessary for women to have fun and live life to the fullest and that contains sleeping with numerous (rich and beautiful) men, whom they meet at fancy parties. And when said heroine declines, she's labeled a prude. Wow. Totally true best friend. Not.
I don't like heroes who look at females like a pack of sheep. Everyone will do. Because hero has a problem (don't know what it is, didn't read any further) and he just can't be in any kind of relationship with a woman. He just has one-night-stands. And many of them. A total man-slut. And he just chooses whatever women, because all women are all the same. They just want him for sex and money. How could they? And what does he want for them? Right, just a ONS with no strings attached. So he's totally not better than them. I really don't like this basic view of women. And then the hero sees the heroine and guess what? She's totally different from any other women. He can see that at first glance. And do you know why? Because she's not wearing a beautiful dress, no. She's in slacks and a black turtleneck. So she's really different from these other women. Really perceptive of our hero.
That's when I noped out of this one. Totally lost interest, not for me.

A couple's biggest obstacle between them is... a ghost?
Allison would rather be anywhere other than a house party with a bunch of rich snobs who only care about themselves and their money. And the handsome home owner is nice to look at but not enough of a reason to stay, even though her psychic ability shows her how sad and lonely he his. Then her night takes a strange turn when she comes across a guest who definitely wasn't on the invitation list.
Logan is starting to think that he's going crazy. More than usual. Inexplicable things have been happening in his new home, and paired with his tragic dreams, he doesn't know what to believe. It's not like he can share his troubles since he's supposed to be the perfect rich bachelor. So when he comes across a woman who sees through his facade, he wonders if it's fate bringing them together. She sees the man under the mask and may be the only person who can help him overcome his fears and solve the mystery of his dreams.
But there is a third wheel in this equation--of the ghostly type. The female spirit in Logan's home will not be swayed by a team of supernatural hunters or the psychic who wishes to banish her from the realm of the living. And if a haunting entity isn't enough of a challenge for a new couple, Logan and Allison must face their own personal demons if they ever stand a chance of happily ever after.
I found this book to be a mixture of contemporary romance and paranormal. The ghost angle is present throughout the entire story but it's really only half of the problems our couple faces. Logan has control issues, problems with his empathic abilities, and a bit of an identity crisis going on. Allison is afraid to get close to Logan or any other man after having lost almost everyone in her life. There are some serious issues tackled here and I think they're done well.
The romance was definitely spicy enough to keep me intrigued even without the paranormal element. Our pair are easily drawn to and complement each other. I had no trouble connecting with each of them but I think they shined more in the scenes they shared with each other. The bedroom scenes were hot and plentiful, too.
I also enjoyed the supernatural plot of the story. I started reading this book while alone and in a dark room which I do not recommend as the best reading setting. This had a mild spooky level but it still gave me the chills more than once. The ghost character doesn't get a lot of development since she's... well, a ghost. Yet, I could see her torment and hoped she would be set free from her tragic prison.
The only problem I had with the story was really just the length. Around 70%, I thought the story was coming to a close, only to find out that we still had a quarter of the book left. I think some of the plot threads could be taken out, to be honest. The entire part where Allison had an issue with the magazine really didn't add anything to the story for me. It was unnecessary strife in an already pretty busy storyline. I did like all of the secondary characters, though. They added some humor to the mix.
In closing... This isn't part of a series but I do hope that this author gives us more paranormal romance stories in the future! Four suns!
I loved this book! It was so cute and a little spooky. The story pulled me in right away! I’m so glad that Kerri Keberly recommended her books to me 💜 I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
I really enjoyed this book by Carrie Pulkinen, it was my first book by her and hopefully will not be my last. In this book we meet Allison Dupuis, a psychic and Logan Mitchell an empath.
Logan knows what people feel-- which means he knows that all they want from him is money and sex. But when he first sees Allison he knows she is different.
I found Logan to be much more emotional/sensitive deep down. Normally this might have put me off the book but it didn't deter me from loving Logan any! It was really nice to see actually, that he had another side to the rich party boy.
Allison I found to be caring and very generous but at times I have to say she was stubborn and hard-headed.
Her and Logan's relationship was fast paced making the book the same and making it at least a one day read! Also I really loved the paranormal setting to the book, it is blended really well with the normal making the ghost, psychic and empath elements of the book all the more believable. But I also do think that can be contributed to the author's writing style as well.
Again a fast, very emotion filled read, I give it a solid four stars. Carrie Pulkinen is definitely an author I will be keeping an eye on for future books.
I also have to say I grew fond of Tina and Trent as well and wonder what might be in store for them in the future....
I would recommend this to anyone who loves a good fast read.
Love at First Haunt: A Ghostly Paranormal Romance (Haunted Ever After Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen is a rom com, contemporary romance, and thriller. It is the first book in a new series from Carrie and this genre is something that she does oh so well. Carrie is always on my TBR list and when I see one of her books it’s a must get. In true Carrie fashion the characters are well developed and quirky and did I mention lovable and make her stories what they are. The story is nonsensical funny that had me laughing loudly and hubby wondering why I was. I was captivated and read it in one sitting.
I look forward to the next ghostly feel good tale from Carrie.
This was supposed to be a buddy read. Buddy dropped out (DNF). Buddy made the right decision.
I just wanted a cute halloween-ish romance 😔
I feel like it's unfair to rate this book because of how much I didn't like it. The insta-love was boring, and the dialogue and how the characters spoke to each other was worse. The mmc was an idiot (the ghosts/visions are literally calling him Alex, and he very pointedly does not go by that name). And I don't know if psychics and the paranormal are really common in this world because the author didn't elaborate on that at all. But they had a paranormal PD, so maybe?
I’m giving this three stars because the story was fairly good and the book is pretty well written. But I’ve never met a man that’s so insecure and whiny in real life or books. Logan was soooooo annoying. I get it he has OCD but he met Allison like three weeks ago and he’s getting jealous and constantly needs reassurance. I would have dropped him the first night lol I’m going to give the second book a try. I hope Trent is less needy.

This was a fun, interesting read for me. I was in it from the beginning although it wasn’t that scary but it was creepy. I love the idea of ghost hunting and having a psychic medium. A great introduction into the series and leaves you wondering about the other characters. I can’t wait to get to Gage’s story.
This is a fast-burn romance where the characters are almost nauseatingly enamored with each other, but it is a cute story. Their relationship is a true "Love at First Haunt."
Part of my re-read so I can review pile. I remember finishing this book; it was early in my writing-a-review-for-every-book-I-read decision ... and I didn't like the book. I had no idea how to write a review for a book I didn't enjoy and decided to put it off ... and put it off. Now two and a half years later, time to bite the bullet. In preparation, I started rereading the book again and got 25% of the way through the kindle edition. So everything is based on the first quarter of the book.
The woman is a Mary Sue and the guy is a Gary Stu, which is a common occurrence for romances. And of course they both have problems in their past - the woman's mother died of cancer and the gambling-problem father ended up committing suicide after losing the family's society level fortune at the tables - so the female character has a privileged upbringing so her old friends invite her to millionaire level events, but she, herself, is a wage slave making it paycheck to paycheck (but she can still go out for manicures and eat most meals out because her old friends splurge on her). BUT she is just like the rest of us wage slaves. The man's family includes an abusive father and a wonderful mother who stuck around that situation until her children grew up because the father was rich and didn't hit the kids. The man is still in the millionaire world, but dedicates his life to charities ... oh and sleeping around because of a major character flaw. But it made him Bachelor of the Year which is the (annoying) joke for the first chapter of the book between him and his best friend.
Both the Mary Sue and Gary Stu have a major character flaw developing out of the fact they both have paranormal abilities. Gary Stu has OCD and sleeps around to keep the visions at bay, so being a slut isn't wrong since it is saving his sanity. In addition to develop sympathy at least twice in the book he goes on for a page planning possible suicides. But he shouldn't, and then has a compulsive cleaning/ordering episode to get back under control. Don't you bleed for his problems? Oh and Mary Sue imperfection is a nasty bout of depression to the point of not moving after some ghosts took over - since then she has been avoiding her gifts. So sad.
But she was saved by a best friend who stuck by her through thick and thin and knows her psychic abilities, takes her to parties, and sleeps around and encourages the Mary Sue to pick a man. Gary Stu has a cookie-cutter best friend who also knows his abilities, sticks through his OCD episodes without comment, takes him to parties, and encourages him to pick a woman.
The first quarter of the book is devoted to the slow build up of character development. Not even really the relationship between the two protagonists, but just defining who they are.
And I remember in my first read through as I continued reading, I kept thinking this slow pace and predictable writing would get better. It didn't - in fact the author continued to throw every heart-wrenching predictable idea out there. Like she wanted to try out every romantic character development trope in the book in one manuscript.
Realize I love these tropes. I read romance all the time. Working wage girl with rich man; newly poor woman with a Alpha working class man to help her out; one of the protagonists having depression or other issue to overcome; bad parent situation affecting today's decisions; friends to help out and support no questions asked ... all of these. Just not all in the same book.
The book meets the requirements of a paranormal romance with sympathetic characters, paranormal abilities (including psychic - healing and cleansing, ghost, emphatic, mind reading... again just go through the trope book), and a bit of action when figuring out and fighting the ghosts. Only problem is the delivery is mediocre prose.
Editing issue - POV jumps around A LOT in this book. I *think* all the switches get marked with a break of "***" - but sometimes there are four or five in on ten-page chapter.

The synopsis for this book really reeled me in. A billionaire with OCD who's also an empath and has a ghost in his new mansion. Needs the ghost hunter gal. I inagined hijinks and more.
Humor wasnt the tone for the book but I went with it. It was very intense in terms of them falling for one another and quick to confess love. They were lusting not loving. I dont generally appreciate books that have this pace but i continued reading it.
I was enjoying this book but then we hit the 70% mark and after that the 88% mark and this went from being a suprisingly enjoyable read to ehh I'm just not feeling this book at all anymore.
Allison the judgemental is drawn to a man and finds this intense lustful connection. Logan was very frank about why he didnt want to be in a relationship and then eventually after 4 hours of deliberation (reallly?!?!?) he concedes and presto relationship status in less than a week of meeting.😒
Allison goes out to hunt the ghost and Logan's fears are brought to life and he distances himself because he cares and you almost got hurt and he is labelled as callous and uncaring. 😒😒. This right here is why after less than a week of meeting someone you clearly shouldnt be in a relationship with them.
Vapid female people. Logan grovels and he and Allison get back together. Shortly thereafter Allison makes another attempt to get rid of the ghost and bring lover boy along. Lover boy Logan loses his shit (real ass) and you get hurt as a result.
It's brought to Allison's attention en route to the hospital that Logan is the number one bachelor and has a shirtless magazine spread that he did for PR. Allison being the shit head female that she is becomes incensed and hurt. How could he? Do I really know him? Has he been lying to me about who he is all this time? Is that why he didnt want me to read him? You then break up with him. Folks all this after the man was frank with you and while muted you felt the truth of the things he said. This folks just killed the book for me.
Of course she doesnt woman up and apologize when she realizes she how much of a idiot she's been. I was disappointed by use of this continued scenario set up. Very few authors write the female owning up to their crap when they do it. So again Logan, unawares bumps into her before she can make a move to right things. He grovels/apologises and makes this public confession and she accepts. Later on all she says is that she should have been the one to apologize.
I hate hate this unfairness in books. Women need to own up to their shortcomings especially when they weren't the wronged party in the final fall out situation.
This cancelled out all the confessions of love and yadda yadda in the week they knew one another for me. A week is no time. This needed a longer time line to work from lust to love. A believable scenario for a split and reunion.
To say I liked this book would be an understatement. I loved this book! It scores a 6 in my mind (and that’s out of 5 stars).
Within the first couple of chapters, I felt like I knew Logan and Allison so well. Each chapter just pulled me further in and made me feel as if I was reading about my own close friends. The intricate friendship between Allison and Tina was wonderful and I found myself constantly comparing it to the one I share with my best friend. It was a perfect fit. Of course, Trent, Gage and Lucia were amazing characters too.
The author did a great job with the story line, making it feel so life like and possible. Yes, this might be a fiction, but it was so good that you could fantasize that it could be a real life drama. Anyone who believes in the supernatural world, the one where spirits do cross over, and people can truly reach inside your mind and body and understand you better then you do yourself, should be drawn to this book.
The writing style of this author was excellent; leaving all my questions answered without me ever wondering. She had the skill to add just enough information without ever putting too much fluff in the conversations, descriptions and plot line. It is a rare author that can fill all three of those completely without going over or under on another area.
The romance scenes were deep letting you know what was happening without being hard core. The climatic action scenes made you sit up and wonder what exactly was about to happen.
The struggles that Allison and Logan ran through over and over again in the story, while trivial at times, could only be called human. Like Allison being jealous over a photograph of Logan in a magazine, and feeling like she wasn’t good enough for him, such normal feelings that any person can relate to. It was one of the reasons why this story just hits closer to home and will easily tug at your heart strings.
An exceptional romance that defines the true term “Soul Mate” … and one I will put back on my shelf to re-read later in time.
Well done Carrie! I look forward to reading other books from you. I am now one of your true fans!
This book is heavy romance with a ghost story woven in.
Allison is a medium/healer that works as a reiki healer and occasional ghost clearer. Her friend, a real-estate agent, invites her to a gathering at a wealthy client's house. Logan is a successful businessman with issues. He sees Allison and is immediately attracted to her. Unfortunately, she runs away before he can speak with her.
Logan has issues of his own. He can't commit to women because he's messed up in the head. He is OCD with suicidal tendencies. He's sad and insecure, and being a psychic, Allison can sense it. Logan can also read people to a degree, and that's helped him with business deals and discerning whether women are interested in him or his money.
I liked Logan a lot. I enjoyed his flaws and his tortured thoughts about his flaws. In the romance genre, it's rare and refreshing to see a H that isn't perfect. I liked Allison, too, but she did one thing toward the end that didn't seem believable and actually made me think less of her.
If you like a ghost story that's heavy on the romance, this series may be right for you.
Allison accompanies her friend Tina to a party at Logan Mitchell’s home. Allison is her wingman as Tina networks and looks for slutty sex. Allison does not have a good impression of the people who attend these types of parties. Looking across the room she makes eye contact with Logan and feels a connection with him. Running from him she meets a woman in white who is crying. Allison tries to help her but the emotions she picks up from this woman are so strong that Allison is unable to stay or help the woman in Carrie Pulkinen’s TO CATCH A SPIRIT. Logan tries to find Allison but he has his own issues to deal with.
Allison and Logan are great characters. I like that both come with baggage and flaws. Allison carries guilt from the death of her parents that she has not come to grips with. Logan is obsessive-compulsive. Watching each try to deal with their problems alone is tough. As a reader, you know they will work better together and you want that so bad, you root for them. I groaned as they both try to be altruistic and let the other go. I wanted them together because they worked so well as one.
The story was interesting. Allison is psychic who has dealt with the dead in the past so they will pass over. A bad experience the previous year has kept her from helping the dead as she helps the living. But she has to face that past as well as her other issues. Logan also has to face his past and make peace with it. He has to deal with his OCD and suicidal thoughts as well as a ghost in his house.
Neither character is perfect but they are perfect together. I hope this is the first of a series. I would like to know what happens with the secondary characters and I want to know that Allison and Logan make it as a couple.
Very intriguing book, hold you attention beginning to end. I think the characters are very well thought out and written perfectly. You feel like you no them and you really like them as the story goes on. As for the story line i really enjoyed it. Very realistic. I'd say Carrie Pulkinen did her research well. I enjoyed the book i only felt that alot of the time the way Alison and Logan acted was a bit childish for my taste, at least for the age they were written as. (this is why i gave it 4 star not 5) Until the book grew towards the end did they finally act more adult like, not teenage. The sex scenes were great, not too graphic but erotic enough. probably some of the best I've ever read. Just enough of them not going overboard ,also not to graphic to make them porn like, more of the real thing, especially when 2 people just fall in love. the ghost scenes and the psychic abilities was perfect. If you no anything about it, Carrie hit it on the mark. I recommend this book to any reader out there who's into ghosts, finding out what true soul-mate means ( if you don't no) and true friendship. You have a. bit of it all in this. book and brought nicely together. I was given this book for a honest review. You can find another review and more about this book and other books on my blog. http:thereaderhaven.wordpress.com
Love at First Haunt (Haunted Ever After Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen 4 stars
Love at First Haunt is the first installment in her Haunted Ever After series. Logan is an empath but he doesn’t know. All his life he knew that he could read people’s emotions and now , on top of that, he has a ghost in his house. Everything is driving him to the point of insanity. He meets Alison and his life changes. She teaches him how to block his empath abilities and shows him what live really is. He falls fast and hard for her. One tiny problem, she’s a psychic who’s afraid of ghosts. How can they have their happily ever after when she would have to face her fears? Facing her fears means putting her life at risk.
I enjoy reading Ms. Pulkinen’s books because they are light romantic comedies with a paranormal twist. I noticed with series, she writes on a more serious note. Although there isn’t as much comedy as her other books, it is still filled with romance, wonderful characters and this time, mystery and danger. While the romance blossoms fairly quickly, the suspense has a slow build up that will leave you breathless. This is a great book and a fantastic start to her new series. I am looking forward to book two.
Love at First Haunt (Haunted Ever After Book 1) By Carrie Pulkinen 5 out of 5 stars
I loved reading the book Love at First Haunt (Haunted Ever After Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen. It is a story that grabbed my attention from the very beginning. I loved the characters of Allison Gray and Logan Mitchell. Allison is an intelligent, independent, and gifted young woman. The gift that she has is not always used, which is by her choice. She also is not looking for a relationship. Then she meets Logan. Logan is funny, intelligent, and also not looking for a relationship. Then he meets Allison. What does the future hold for Allison and Logan? Read this book to find out. I also loved the additional characters that are introduced and read about the part that they play in the book. I loved the bantering back and forth between the characters. Don’t miss out on a story that is exciting and entertaining. I highly recommend it.
Love at First Haunt: A Ghostly Paranormal Romance (Haunted Ever After Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen was a great 5 star read. I was pulled in right from the beginning.
Allison is a special person, she can see dead people. When she goes with her best friend to a party, this is where she meets Logan the owner. Logan is an empath and when he sees Allison he could tell she was different and was instantly drawn to her. Fate steps in a few more times and they see each other again.
Can these two get past their fears and secrets to have a relationship?
We get romance, suspense, and so much more with this haunting read. The author does a great job with her writing and you get pulled right in. I look forward to reading more from this series. 1-click and get started today.
I love this book I was totally "goin with the flo"........ up until the very end. I just don't understand why she broke up with him over something he said and did before she met him. The whole time I was reading the rest of the book I kept repeating "that is so stupid why would she do that" over and over again, and I had to re-read the last of it again just to comprehend what I was reading, because I kept repeating that over and over again.

I expected a murder, as most psychic books seem to lean to, but what I got was a ghost. It was a decent read... mostly romance, though they jumped into bed quite fast and her not reading him and breaking up did not fit and was a turn off for me.
the ONLY thing that came between them was a ghost.. this book could've been cut in half and is a digestible example of how not to write paranormal romance.
Okay this gets 2 stars because it's really clear to me that the author put a lot of love and effort into this one.
Grammatically- 9/10 No glaring mistakes at all. Careful and mostly deliberate, if not poetic, composition. Easy to read.
Aesthetics of phrasing- 3/10 Not Shakespeare. But nobody expects that from a fun little romance. Clear.
Unexpected details, 6/10 As a psych student myself I appreciated the nods to mental health awareness and misunderstood diagnoses. It was a pretty textbook presentation, so maybe a little on the nose, but I'm not mad about that. Helps people understand what's going on before the Characters explain it. Liked that bit the most.
Effort- 9/10 Brava to this lady. I'm glad she's writing. It's a sweet story.
Characters- 4/10 Look, I know we're not going for any real depth here. With that in mind, the Characters are just fine.
Setting- 6/10 Pretty typical for a cozy little Romance
Plot- 3/10 I'm not going to pretend like I enjoyed this all the way through. I did have to skim through several bits that were a bit less interesting. I almost DNF at about 80%, then again at 90%, but I couldn't stand to not finish that close to the end. The conflict peppered through the story was very predictable and something similar happens repeatedly once our main character rejoins her Scooby-Gang of ghost hunters. I found myself rolling my eyes the third time the exorcism fails.
Romance- 5/10 These two ended up being very sweet and basically ideal from a Romance lit perspective. Both traditionally beautiful (which gets boring after a while but i understand that this is not the book for breaking norms) . Both don't need the other to be happy, but certainly enjoy the connection. Biggest issue I had was they both seem logical, then they take turns acting like complete emotional messes (which didn't feel accurate for their character development), then suddenly they're both awesome again. Whiplash, you know?
Consent- 10/10 No issues with this area. I put a lot of stock into this last category, so being 10/10 in this one is enough for me to recommend it to others.
Overall enjoyment and would I continue the series/ read it again? I wouldn't read it again unless I was very very very very bored, but it's easy enough to get through so maybe in a reading emergency, sure. Will I turn to the next one? Idk. Not likely. Maybe!

To Catch a Spirit is a paranormal romance standalone that will leave you wanting more. I must confess I was a little worried about reading it because, honestly, I have read so many paranormal romances that I pretty much know everything their plots have to offer. Nevertheless, there are times when I come across a refreshing novel that offers a unique view of classical themes. I am pleased to say this was the case. Allison Gray is a psychic who spends her time getting rid of negative energy from antiques and dreaming of becoming a therapist. In my opinion having her powers is tame compared to other paranormal creatures. However, it still complicates her life. I can’t imagine how my life would be like if I get the vibes or everything and everyone around me. Being a medium would be even worse for me. Honestly, she is my hero for handling so much in her life. A strong heroine like her is quite popular in plenty of novels lately and I am glad for that. It is kind of refreshing having a woman save the day by herself or doing as much as the hero. In my opinion, this motivates women to achieve greater things and this book is perfect for that. Now, the hero. Logan is portrayed as every lady’s dream. He is rich, handsome and a bachelor. Nevertheless, he isn’t interested in romance. Kind of typical but for very good reasons: 1) gold diggers surround him and 2) he had a vision of the suicide of a woman he fell in love with. Yeah, he also has special powers. Logan is, in fact, an empath that lacks control. He can’t shield himself and that pushes him to loneliness even when he is surrounded by people. The moments I read the party scene I knew these two were a match made in heaven. They complement each other so well and see past the mask that the other insists on keeping. This sounds like a typical romance plot but I promise there are a lot of twists that will have you on edge. In fact, there is this troublesome lady that will do her best to keep them apart. Jealous stalker? Perhaps, but she isn’t your average obsessive lady. I would highly recommend this novel to any paranormal romance lover out there that enjoys a romance full of drama and surprises.
I received this book as an ARC with the promise to leave an honest review. This is the first novel I have read by Carrie Pulkinen and after finishing To Catch A Spirit, I guarantee that I will be reading more.
Allison is psychic who's afraid of ghosts and Logan is a billionaire with a haunted past and a hidden power. Together can they fight a ghost and find true love?
What follows is a lovely story about human emotions and learning how to let go of the past. The story also covers topics such as depression, suicide, loss, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorders.
The author's writing style was very easy to get into and I was immediately hooked from the first page. I finished the book in just under 3 days and that's only because I had to go to work in between. I even found myself catching a few lines while stuck waiting in the drive thru, I just literally couldn't wait to find out what happened. The characters were completely believable and definitely easy to get behind, character development was great, and the dialogue between characters is very realistic.
There is light swearing in the book, not enough to overwhelm you, but just enough as you would use it in every day conversation. I loved the connection between Allison & Logan, although I have to admit, that hearing how "awesome" and "amazing" Allison was, got a little old. Their relationship did move rather quickly, but hey, sometimes that happens. The only other negative I would say would be that I don't think pyschic is the right word I would use to describe Allison. I'm not sure what the word is, but when I hear pyschic, I assume this is someone who can either a) read minds or (b) tell the future. Allison seems to be more empath than anything. But this is just my opinion
All in all, I am very happy to have received this book, it was a wonderful story and very quick and easy to get into. I will definitely be reading more from this author
I've enjoyed a lot of Pulkinen's books, but I just didn't like the characters in this one or maybe I didn't like them together? I did like Allison's gifts though; she's an empath who performs Reiki, has the ability to see, talk to and help spirits pass over, and, of course, can sense the feelings of others.
Allison's been burnt by a wealthy man in the past, so she shies away from rich men. Logan's a handsome billionaire with a playboy public persona, so she's immediately uninterested until she senses his pain and loneliness. 🙄
Logan is struggling with a lot of issues: serious OCD, fear of becoming his cheating father, nightmares of his future wife dying. Because of these, he avoids connecting with any women on an emotional level and sticks to one night stands. But, when he sees Allison, who stands out in the crowd because her lack of dressy attire, he's intrigued. Really? 🙄
Lastly, the big reveal behind the ghost and explains Logan's fears, his first reaction is “I wouldn’t think it’d be high enough to kill her, though.” Not ... That explains it! I'm free to love! And, then comes the famously dreaded (by me) 'I can't stay with you because I'm bad for you, even though I love you, you love me' trope.
🙄
So, not the book for me, but maybe for others. I might read the rest of the trilogy to see what happens with the two best friends, but I'm in no rush.
