Soul of a Witch

Rate this book
Everly

I am the servant of a merciless God. I am the daughter of Its preacher. All my life, my power has been controlled by others. They raised me to be meek and stifled my magic.

But no more.

A brutal murder led me to discover a mysterious house full of magic - and the ancient, powerful demon within. He says my power can change the world, that I can kill the evil creature I once worshipped.

But at what cost?

Callum

For two thousand years, I've been alone. Slaughtering fallen Gods as I searched for the witch that haunted my dreams, begging for my help.

Now that I've found her, I will protect her with my life. But when the fate of Earth, Heaven, and Hell hangs in the balance, not even her soul is safe from destruction.

If a choice must be made, I'll let the world burn if it means having her as my own.

Soul of a Witch is book 3 in the Souls Trilogy . Each book within the Souls Trilogy is interconnected, following a different couple through a similar timeline in the fictional world of Abelaum.

The review contains spoilers!

It started out great, but then it took a downturn. I feel bad for giving it such a low rating, especially after waiting almost two years for this book, but I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. There were two main factors that influenced my rating — one of which is due to personal preference and might not be an issue for everyone, so I sincerely hope that I will be in the minority with this rating.

But, moving to the point — my thoughts. I’ll start with the positive sides here.

Callum, aka the Archdemon, Elder Warrior of the Onyx Stone Order, Defender of the High City, Prince of the Nine Circles, guardian of House Laverne and Magni Deicide. As you can see, he has quite a lot of titles, just as he has a lot of good, even amazing qualities. I liked this man, okay. He had one preference that I hate in my heroes, but he was endearing enough for me to overlook it and finish the book. Which is rare, as usually if a character doesn’t have issues with such things, it leads to me putting the book down. So, what made me love him?

His nicknames.

"lady witch."
"my lady"
“My beautiful thread of fate. My lady. My mistress.”
"darling."
“Yes, my love."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ description

Ugh, he had a way with words. I know "my lady" might sound like something out of a historical romance novel, but I can't help loving it.

“You should wear a bell so you don’t give me a heart attack.”
“A bell? Like the one’s humans put on their cats?” He tipped his head to the side curiously, seeming to give the idea some thought. “Only if you promise to drag me around on a leash. Then I’ll gladly wear your collar.”

*SCREAMINGGGGG*

“I don’t understand your anger,” I said. “Would you have preferred she penetrate me instead?”
Whispered curses floated through the air. “It certainly would have been preferable.”
That was fair enough. I still didn’t understand, but humans worked in mysterious ways.
“Well then, we’ll try that next time.” The explosion of cursing that followed my declaration told me perhaps I should stop talking entirely."

He was effortlessly funny, and the best part was that he was completely serious here.

"Everly is not, and has never been, a mere fascination. She is my reason, my logic. She is my one and only God. Think I’m mad if you wish. There is nothing left for me in this existence except for her, and I would sooner rip myself apart than allow you or any other being to stand in her way."

“I’ll love you endlessly, darling.”

'Darling' always does it for me.

“I would build a temple for you if I could,” I said, dragging my nose along her skin as I inhaled. “Lock you away like a gilded goddess and worship at your feet for eternity.”

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ description

He was obsessed. Honestly, even the word 'obsessed' feels like an understatement. At first, I was confused when, after just a few minutes of meeting her, he jumped straight to, "Who f*cking hurt you? Give me their name.", but it all made sense once he revealed why he knew who she was. He had been searching for her for centuries — long before she was even born. He had a vision of her, something nearly impossible for demons, where she begged for his help, and that vision drove him to Earth to find her. Imagine your man waiting for you for centuries — a new standard. He even threatened Lucifer himself and was ready to betray Hell for her.

Now, onto my main issue — sharing. The moment a hero expresses any desire to share the heroine, it's an instant DNF for me. I know this might not bother everyone, but it's something I personally can't stand. I prefer heroes who are so possessive that they would never let another man near you. Don’t get me wrong — there isn’t a single scene like that in this book, but Callum does mention that it wouldn't be a problem for him.

“I thought you weren’t the jealous type.”
“Oh, certainly not, love. I’m very welcoming and generous to guests. It’s intruders I have a problem with.”

Then he started talking about other men "helping him" while he fuck*d her. While I understand that this might not be a problem for everyone, it’s something I personally dislike. I liked Callum enough to continue, but it did leave a bitter taste.

Our heroine, Everly, is next. While I liked her, I didn't feel a strong connection to her character. She was portrayed as a powerful witch learning to control her magic, yet at the same time, she came across as sweet and shy. She was also a virgin who enjoyed reading smutty books. Through her relationship with Callum, she discovered a dominant side in the bedroom, and although I’m completely obsessed with dominant women, the moment she suddenly started talking dirty to him, it somehow caught me off guard.. One moment she was sweet, and then suddenly, "Do you really want it that bad? Such a needy boy." I couldn't quite picture it — I don’t know why but, it felt out of character.

As for the smutty scenes, I have to admit that I enjoyed them, some even a lot. But certain phrases, like 'my puckered hole,' were just a big no for me. I'm sorry, but it’s probably the worst possible way you can describe that.

The second thing that made me lower my rating is that I found myself a bit bored. It’s not that nothing was happening, but usually, I can finish a book of this length in a day—this one took me three.

In the end, I'll just say that while I enjoyed certain aspects of this book, would I recommend it to anyone overall? Unfortunately, no. I wish I could, though.

“You are far more powerful than you have ever been allowed to believe.”

This series hooked me in from the beginning. The second book fell a bit for me, but this one reeled me right back in. I wanted some witchy vibes for the spooky season, and that is exactly what I got.

A Soul for a Witch is the final book in the Souls Trilogy. It is an age gap, touch her and die, insta-love (but I didn't hate it), dark romance with witty banter, sarcasm, dirty talk, and magic. There are some plot crossovers since it's along the same timeline as the first two books, but we get more building and a backstory with this one before it crosses plots than we did with the second book.

Everly Hadleigh bares witness to the murder of a fellow classmate by her half-brother to be sacrificed. She doesn't want to be caught up in it and ends up teleporting to a mysterious house deep in the woods. A house that she finds out holds magic and has housed her ancestors. What she finds there is the archdemon Callum, who had been waiting for her for 2000 years. Together, they want to kill the God in Abelaum. The first step of their plan is for Everly to return home to steal the grimoire from her father. When she returns home, she finds out from her father that the God will need a vessel that is filled with power and a mind with faith. Her father's plan is for her body to become its vessel. Will her and Callum be able to defeat the God together without being killed themselves, or Everly becoming the vessel?

For so long, you haunted me. The familiar face of a stranger in a hundred lifetimes. As if we were always circling each other, two planets in cosmic alignment, thrown into a continuous loop by the power of one another. I waited for you, before I even knew it was you I was waiting for.

At the coven house, we meet Everly's grandmother, who is a ghost that speaks through a radio. I enjoyed her wisdom and funny and snarky remarks. We don't see much of the previous couples. All that we got was a scene of each, which made me kind of sad because I would have loved to see more of Leon. I was happy, though, not to see much of Victoria and Jeremiah as I don't like either of them.

“I do miss you,” I mumbled against her neck. “Miss you every second I’m not touching you. Every moment I can’t see you.”

This may have started as insta-love, but their relationship grew into much more. We see the building of their relationship until their chemistry is explosive. They are literal soulmates. I loved Callum with his sarcasm, witty comebacks, and his obsession with Everly was top tier. And oh my gosh, the nicknames that he gave Everly made me swoon so hard. You guys he read one of her romance novels and planned a picnic for her. I need a Callum lol. Gosh Everly, I loved her so much! She was a sweet, shy girl who was always told that she was weak. Well, let me tell you, she grew into a strong, confident witch and learned how to master her magic.

“I love you,” I said. “I love you more than life itself, more than my own freedom. For you and you alone, I’ve stayed alive, Everly. For you, I would face everything I ever feared. I’ve lived a thousand lifetimes and I swear I’ve loved you in every one of them.”

I have been enraptured by this world and am sad that the series has come to an end. And what an ending it was. I was scared for both Callum and Everly sitting on the edge of my seat with what would happen next. I loved the epilogue it was sweet and heartwarming. Please check out the triggers before picking this up. I can't wait to see what else Harley has in store for us and to read others that I haven't yet.

“To whom do you belong, my demon?” “To you, darling. You will have me in life. I will keep you in death. For eternity, I am yours, and you are mine.”

"Why would a wolf choose not to bite? Perhaps someone has convinced the wolf that she has no teeth."

All my life I had been told to hide my power.
To make sure it does not get out of control.
But once something happens. Something I cannot unsee. Something that proves my father's evil, I will not hold back anymore.
I will end the evil that has controlled me most of my life.
But what will it cost me?
And who will be with me along the way?

"I wasn't supposed to trust him. Yet, when I looked into those jet-black eyes… I did."

Song - “And So It Went” - The Pretty Reckless

Everly was always told by her father that she cannot let her power out.
She will not ruin everything for him.
But when she sees something that changes everything, she will no longer be "Daddy's little girl"

"I'm done being careful, I'm not fucking content being silent and sweet and permissive."

"I was told not to play with dangerous things, but my mother is dead and my father is wicked. So I think I'll play how I please."

And luckily for her, Callum has been searching for her for years. And now that he found her. He will be damned if he lets he do this alone or if he lets her go.

"She needed to be assured of my utmost and unflagging devotion to the protection of this place and everything inside it. Including her. Especially her."

"I'd spent centuries waiting for a glimpse of her. If I stared into her eyes much longer, I'd lose myself."

Thank you Harley Laroux for the arc! I received an e-arc in exchange for an honest review 🧡🖤🧡

OMG OMG OMG OMG
THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING!!!!

"The power in you is by far greater than any witch I've ever known."

I was hooked on this series from the first book and I was hooked every book since but this book just took it to a whole new level!!

"No matter how much it frightened me, I was going to fight."

Everly has become one of my top FMCs.
Fighting her past, realizing her dad is legit evil, and doing everything in her power to kill the evil that remains.

"But the truth was different. And I had no idea why I could see it, why my mind was able to break through the hallucinations caused by the God's control… But I could. And I knew it."

And by her side you have Callum. Our hot arch demon who has been waiting for her for 2000 years.
And god, was he worth the wait let me tell you.
That snippet of him we got in "Her Soul for Revenge" did not do him justice!!!
This man is everything!! From the moment he opened his mouth I was hooked!

"Oh, how easy it would be to catch her. But easy wasn't satisfying. A game ended too quickly was no game at all."

"Who fucking hurt you? Give me their name." - Yes, yes. The who hurt you trope is strong with this one folks and it is everything!!

And boy what a mouth this demon has 🥵🥵🥵

"You're so beautiful. Perfect for me to ruin."

"A little appetizer before the main course. I'm not taking these panties off until you've soaked them."

But don't forget about Everly. Because this girl can get it!! When I tell you Evelyn can run me over, burn me, and stuff me like a turkey, I am not joking!!

"You get to be useful by being my seat while I get off. Don't touch. Don't struggle. Just watch."

"Do as I told you, Callum. If you're good, maybe I'll fuck you like you asked."

In summary, this book was amazing. Giving paranormal. Giving romance. Giving Spice. Proving once again, that whatever Harley Laroux writes I will read devour and but multiple copies

"Every weapon needs a handler."

Honestly, I'd be surprised if I don't get kicked off Harley's ARC team 😭. For one, because I've been (outrageously) late with my mediocre-ass whiney reviews. But to that I say... maybe it's because your book (that I wanted so badly to love and hype up!) was boring!

Now, it's so full of sweethearts on this site — people who motivate me to continue writing reviews — so here I am putting one out! Granted, I wish it could be a passionate, glowing review where I'd practically place your next read in your lap because of how I sold it, but sadly, that is not the energy I can bring to the table today. There is a little sass though, so hopefully it'll be entertaining. Or! Sometimes the things I dislike in books are things that others seek so maybe my review won't be completely futile.

Let's start with the not-so-bad. Harley Laroux's writing is, in my opinion, pretty fuckin commendable. I just think she describes what needs to be described, creates atmosphere and writes pretty natural and swoony dialogue. It's why I grew to love her work in the first place, because frankly dark romance is not the genre to go to in hopes of good writing, in my (decent) experience. No shade to other dark romance authors but Harley is doing something right that many of you have just failed to (*cough* H.D. Carlton and Giana Darling etc.).

Another one of her strengths is that she adds to the genre. Sure, she'll play with some tropes but to be, she stands out for a number of reasons.

1) Her MMCs are pretty fuckin slutty and yet...so respectful. I know I know, we're not supposed to be in awe about these things nowadays but listen. She somehow nails the middle ground where there are fun, unique dynamics at play, yet with full consent, safety and generally just lovingness. These men really just love their girls and you can tell. Harley always confidently ticks that box for me.

2) This one is gonna have a little shade in it but... I've grown to love Harley's fmcs, because in the previous sequel, we met the absolute gem of a woman: Juniper. This woman was hot, relatable and just oh-so-human. I want to see some sass, some grit in the FMCs of dark romance. It makes it so much more interesting when they're just as playful and teasing. And who doesn't love a power couple? But sadly, that was not the case for this book.

Listen, maybe it's bc of how utterly homo I am, but I was READY to meet THE Everly (h). The setup of this book was TOO GOOD man. We were promised a sexually dominant woman and I was here for it. But "it" didn't get the memo.

Everly was meant to be this sickeningly, powerful witch who, yes, had her support pup (Callumn (H)) at her feet... but what did I get?

I get one of the meekest, most clueless and stuttery fmcs to date!! 😭😭😭

BUT GET THIS she STILL tries to be dominant in bed 🤣🤣🤣. Listen, I'm not gonna yuck anyone's yum or however that goes, (bc ofc people can be dominant in bed and not irl and vice verse), but as a READER there was a complete tonal shift that just did not work in favour of the character Harley was trying to create.

Moreover, it was blatantly obvious that Callumn was just letting her try out sexual dominance, and though he seemed to enjoy his submissive role too, it took almost all the agency and like...zest from Everly's dominance in the first place. Like he literally had to guide her through her own domination of him I'm SORRY?!? Like...I get how it's a ...healthy... way for her to explore her sexuality but goddamn what was I even reading.

It was never giving power couple, I was never swooning or giggling or twirling my hair for either character... it was just a mess.

What I'd argue is best is when a character's personality matches their actions. Everly just had no bite in her man, it was boring!!!

To elaborate (☝ lol), there was also a complete lack of the general push and pull dynamic that Harley always nails like what?!? I mean, I'd rather they didn't read my review because I would be heartbroken to have a reader so disappointed in my latest work that I pride myself in but gosh. I gotta get it out, sorry bae.

There was no tension, no will-they-won't-they, it was all just "we're friends yippee now let's fuck but this time I peg you and you stick to your puppy eyes meanwhile i'm literally Bambi so what now" . Because it just didn't make sense I'm SORRY.

Because of that, it didn't really feel like there was much romantic development at all? It is so drilled into the reader that Callumn perceives Everly as being so naive and yet supposedly also like his divine powerful woman but...who's really buying it? Hand me a coupon because I CAN'T.

Not to mention that I knew the plot would be repetitive but damn it just really lost its spark by the 3rd time witnessing the same plot from a different perspective.

Holistically, I regret to report that this book failed on many fronts. I mean I just still cannot believe we were robbed of a powerful female witch, exuding elegance and commanding respect, that toyed with Callumn — THAT'S what I had signed up for, personally.

By the end, it didn't feel like a love story and that's what Harley's other books have achieved (at least for me) in the past (the first two in this series).

But unfortunately, I don't know what's in the air, or Harley's air for that matter, but her recent releases have left me somewhat stumped and entirely disappointed (the Losers duet etc). I keep feeling inclined to the "but the next one's premise is so good, it'll be GREAT and I'll be back on the Harley Hype Train" but that what I though about this one...

And yet still! I know that Harley has a 🚨🚨🚨 SAPPHIC RELEASE 🚨🚨🚨 planned, and I'm so ready for her to NAIL a tryst-six-venom-esque toxic lesbian romance but I'm hesitant to even get too excited for it.

Still, I do look forward to seeing her take on it, as I truly do believe she has the potential to publish a DELICIOUS sapphic romance, however, this one left such a bad taste in my mouth (dnfed at 88%) that I'm literally setting it as "read" on December 31st, 2023 because I just don't want to start the new year like this.

Gosh, I hate to call a woman pathetic but Everly's meek and pouty character was not it for me, and Callumn wasn't anything special either.

I've decided to still place one of the better quotes as the featured one for my review because like I said, it's not all bad, but it's just nothing in comparison to what I've seen Harley be capable of.

Onto a new year and many more reviews!

Thank you Harley Laroux for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Oh god, everyone’s going to hate me…but….I can’t keep it in….THIS WAS SO MEH.

There, I said it. I’m so fucking bummed. I’ve been waiting for this story since we got a 5 second blip of Everly & Callum in Her Soul to Take. I was so excited to read the conclusion of this trilogy, and while I’m not disappointed in how it all finally ended, I was just so bored!!

This is some serious insta-lust. There wasn’t much tension from a relationship/romance standpoint. Everly was confusing - is she confident? Is she scared, submissive & naive? Who knows!! Cuz it changes each chapter, and it got old. Basically I skimmed everything from 50% on, just so I could get to the ending. And I really didn’t want to skim, but the relationship formed so quickly I was just left wondering…ok, now what? 😭😭😭😭

And Callum…the impression I got of him from Leon’s POV in book 1 was that he was this badass, all-powerful, controlling demon. I was expecting some seeeerious alpha vibes and then we got…. "hey babe, here’s a strap-on, bend me over. I will do anything for my Mistress.” WHERE DID THAT COME FROM??

WAIT I just remembered...the declaration of love/battle preparation piercing scene!! L O LLLLLL. Nothing screams romance like piercing your man's 🍆 and getting your 😺 pierced in return. I fucking died laughing/cringing.

I have been waiting for this book forever, and unfortunately it disappointed me. I was so exited for Everly’s story. But something didn’t work for me with this one. I just wasn’t feeling it between her and Callum all the time, and I found myself reading just to finish the book. I felt the chemistry in the beginning of the book, but it went downhill and I didn’t feel much, and i was also bored with the plot at times. I’m sure people will enjoy this, but this is not my favourite in the series.

Something wasn’t working for me, but I will still be watching for Harley Laroux books in the future. 💫

I kurde pradawny bóg serio przeklina? I to słowem typu „kurwa”, albo mówi do głównej bohaterki „Ty głupia cipo”? Serio?

I’m not okay. I knew the series was ending. Honestly, I wasn’t ready to see the series end and was worth the wait. My favorite book in the series.
I’m
Soul Of A Witch is everything I expected and more. I love it when an author writes outside the box without giving out any spoilers. I love the power dynamic of Everly and Callum; It’s a unique take on a book I wish to see more of. Callum, my dirty. My favorite kind, You know, the kind you can't and some want to wash off. They both push each other boundaries

We learned the backstory of Everly’s life, how her family treated Everly, and how she became a powerful witch with Callum by her side.

Sorry, Leon and Zane, but Callum is the ultimate demon. I love how he rebelled and did what he thought was right. Even when he is feral, he has a softer side for Everly. Everly and Callum are beyond soulmates and their bond. They’re incredibly intense together.

As much as I am obsessed with Callum, I can now add Everly to my list of book girlfriends. Her character growth is phenomenal. From the scared, timid witch she was to a Mistress-powerful Witch.

All good things must come to an end, but what a fantastic ride it was.

Are you fucking kidding me???? What an ending!!

I’m sorry Leon but Callum is now my favourite. I want him. He can have my soul, heart and pussy. He is THE demon for me.

Now I understand why the author took so long to finish the trilogy, the ending😫😫😫 And that epilogue???

I love it so much ugh I can’t even. We finally saw what Hell looks like and it seems heavenly? Pun intended. A lot of questions were answered and I’m happy about that.
Yes, I’m said it’s over but I’m also glad I can enjoy the full story now.

This book is the spiciest of them all but like.. in the best way. It was fun to see the other characters and some behind the scene moment that we only glimpsed at in the previous books.

Everly is a badass witch and I love her so much!
Callum….🧎🏻‍♀️

23th oct: time to eat this shit up ✨ been waiting my whole life for this

29th nov: what? :) i had to sit myself down and actually consider rating it or writing a review. if you know me, you’re aware i was absolutely obsessed with the first two books and i physically couldn’t wait to read the last one. the disappointment i’m currently experiencing is enormous. i don’t really want to say much, because i’ve wholeheartedly enjoyed the other two books. but yeah, i probably had way too high expectations. i refuse to rate it and say anything more - i have a soft spot for this author and i’ll just pretend this books simply does not exist.

So glad to get back to this world and wrap up this story. I was swooning, gasping, covering my eyes, and thrilled the whole time.

Everly is a character I have been curious about since the beginning. I knew more was going on with her, even when it was hard to feel for her at the beginning. She is stuck in a cult she wants nothing to do with but sees no escape. She has been brainwashed and mistreated and told she is next to useless.

Then... something happens that pushes her over the edge and frees her from the clutches of her demented father. She discovers a magical house with a demon inside who tells her she can kill the creature she has been forced to worship.

Callum is that demon and he has been patiently waiting for Everly to find him. He is there to help her take control of her powers and fight the evil looking to consume everything. But he's not just here for that.. he's also here for HER. He's been waiting so long and now that he has her... he'd let the world burn to keep her.

I could not put this book down. I was obsessed with Everly and Callum right from the start. She has been through so much and it was hard to read about how she was treated and see the hopelessness of her situation. Watching her come into her magic and seeing her lose the chains that held her down was thrilling.

That magic house in the woods was EVERYTHING! I loved the creatures and ghosts we met, the magic I saw Everly learn, and of course... the experimenting Callum coaxes her into... (see the steamy content warnings for a tease at that).

I was a bit nervous after how long we waited for this conclusion to the trilogy but Harley Laroux delivered 100% for me. And I actually want to start from the beginning again to see how it all fits together. It came together so beautifully and I loved the cameos of all our previous faves.

I highly recommend this whole trilogy and I think it only got stronger with each entry. I can't wait to see what the author writes next.

It's sad to say this is the last book in this series, and I loved every second of it! We finally got to see Everly's view, and my heart broke for her and how she was treated.

Now I don't wanna give away a lot since this was a wonderful ending! I love seeing Callum and Everly bond with one another. They pushed each other to be great in battle and in their relationship. Also, the spice!!!!! Was delicious. I loved that they were Switches. Callum was such a golden retriever hero but had his dom moments. Also, THAT PERICING SCENE!!! Harley knows how to write a good pericing scene like the other 2 books. I'm so happy with how it ended.

We also saw our past couples, and idk I can't pick my fave demon, hehe.

No ow/om drama, No cheating, slight secondary character, drama, sexy times, virgin gal and no manwhore

This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Because I love this author and I loved book 1. And so many of their other books. But I will not lie. And I will piss some people off but this was one of the worst books I have ever read. Book 2 was meh but this?
I am confused. I feel punked. Did I read the wrong book?
This has to have been a first draft? Right?! As my most anticipated book in two years I am heartbroken.
If you don’t want spoilers please go but just know this hurts me a lot to do.

Plot: the plot was thready at best, mostly consisting of a odd bunch of tropes, non triggers but triggers and a bunch of plot lines that never connected. First why did we have to go over the same story line all over again? This read as a standalone but with vital pieces of the other books. It was redundant and by far 70% of this book didn’t need to be written. It was all filler. Which leads me to my next issue.

The writing: This DID NOT feel like this authors prior works. This was a first draft. Full of unnecessary information, descriptions with minimal dialogue. This was 90% tell no show. I felt nothing, no fear, no disgust, nothing that the author was attempting to portray but fell flat on. Which is a 180 from book 1. When you constantly had to describe the movements, the room or the outfit it was too much. Over kill.

The character’s: fuck. Everly and Callum were my most anticipated couple book. I was wet waiting for them. But they lacked connection. Tension. All of it was just words. Once again no show only tell. Everly is a young virgin new witch who happens to become a dom, mistress and the most powerful witch of all? That is so not okay. And here is Callum, we see this badass scary demon in the prior books and in this one he is a bottom, which I love, but he turns into a total baby. He lacks a spine and changes like after ch 11. Their sex was so cringe, he couldn’t even fit in her the first time but by the third time he’s bottoming out to the point her stomach is bulging? Oh let’s not forget the second time they even have relations she pegs him which damn I’m so good for but you are telling me this virgin is able to do all this? Come on. Oh the best part they mark each other and pierce each other and after being the dom she begins pulling out a “fuck me like a whore” wait what. I’m 70% in where the heck did this come from. They lacked any sort of solid character, at one point Callum wants to kill this guy she knew from school but then while fucking her after describes a fantasy of this dude joining? Very out of character, especially with how protective and possessive and obsessive he has been. Which is also another issue, after the first time they hooked up he was icky. He was predatory in not a hot way and whiny.

Other issues: the villian, our god reads like a Scooby do character in this book. This entire thing was juvenile in nature. And I’m in shock because this is not like Harley’s other books. The pacing was so bad. The amount of unnecessary stuff was exhausting. By 50% which took me a full day and a half to get there (and I’m a fast reader) I began skimming. The entire time I felt the pregnancy plot coming, there were a dozen out of pocket comments and then 20 pages before the end we think her and the baby die and they don’t and then she’s all of a sudden become aware she is pregnant magically and is speaking to her belly.

Triggers; as always Harley leaves a solid list of triggers but I want it to be known that one of them doesn’t even occur but it’s set up for us to think it occurs?

Like I said as my most anticipated read in two years I am fucking heart broken. This didn’t feel real. And I feel like I was robbed of an amazing set of characters and an amazing story that could have been. I know this is an unpopular opinion but my feelings be hurting.
I will make my notes public so you can see the things I am referring to.

I’m speechless. This was so friking good.

Tropes this book delivers in the best way I’ve read in a long time:

🌿✨ Fated Mates
🌿✨ He falls first & He falls harder
🌿✨ Obsessed Hero
🌿✨ “I’d burn the world down for you” Hero
🌿✨ “Touch her and die” Hero

Everything was just crafted to perfection. Every plot line, every character, every conclusion… I loved to see the three timelines interlinked and some of the scenes we already knew from another POV. I couldn’t stop reading, feeling completely immersed in the story.

Some of the spooky moments were truly scary and gross. And I mean that in the best way possible. This book opened the Spooky Season for me. We’re officially in Halloween Mode in this house all thanks to Harley Laroux.

I’ve been waiting for so long to get to know these characters and it was even better than I could’ve anticipated. Even the rest of the characters, from her dead grandma who speaks to her through an old radio, to the Fae creatures… The magic house that anticipates all your needs. You know you’re getting old when you find yourself wanting that house above anything else lol

Everly is an amazing FMC. She went through so much, and we got to see her growing and learning to use her magic until she became the powerful witch we already knew.

I’m as obsessed with Callum as he was with Evelyn. And that’s A LOT. He was such an amazing character, I can’t stop thinking about him.

Their sex dynamics were incredible. Again, Laroux delivers a different view on sex that just fascinates me. Her BDSM and sex scenes come closer to real life than most books. And that’s one of the reasons her books are so good. Without spoilers, I’ll say Callum's approach to pleasure and pain was so hot. He’s the ultimate Switch Daddy and I wish we got more of this because 😮‍💨

The conclusion with the God, and all the discussion about what Gods were and how they managed to gain power was so interesting and satisfying.

I’m sad this is the last book in this universe but I’m content with the way it ended. I can’t wait for what Laroux has in store for us next.

changing my rating upon further thinking to 3 stars.

dude is fucking whipped for everly and im so here for it. there was quite a bit of insta love, but that being said, doesn't mean i didn't love the quotes:

1. "Everly is not, and has never been, a mere fascination. She is my reason, my logic. She is my one and only God. Think I’m mad if you wish. There is nothing left for me in this existence except for her,"

2. "This obsession might mean the death of me, but that is an end I will meet gladly. Humans have their deities, their great and powerful gods, guiding them to live and die. I have you."

(is it a spoiler that they say ily coz i feel like its a given in any romance? )
3. “I love you,” I said. “I love you more than life itself, more than my own freedom. For you and you alone, I’ve stayed alive, Everly. For you, I would face everything I ever feared. I’ve lived a thousand lifetimes and I swear I’ve loved you in every one of them.”

“I’ll love you endlessly, darling.”

callum is the absolutely amazing <3 and so obsessed with everly which i love to see, but i also loved his character in general.

“I waited two thousand years for you. To hear your voice again. To see your face. To touch you.” (...) “For so long, you haunted me. The familiar face of a stranger in a hundred lifetimes. As if we were always circling each other, two planets in cosmic alignment, thrown into a continuous loop by the power of one another. I waited for you, before I even knew it was you I was waiting for.” I kissed her forehead, and said, “To my last breath, I’ll fight for you. Beyond this life, beyond death, I’ll love you always.”

the reason why this isn't rated higher is coz it dragged a bit, especially a few of the plot points considering the same things happened in the previous 2 books, the repetition was boring. and also everly. i mean i expected so much more from her.

Honestly, I feel like the plot dragged on for way too long, and then the god's downfall just felt really anticlimactic. 🫣 I’m not really sure what I was expecting, but when it finally happened, I just felt so unsatisfied. 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, I really liked the romance, though! 🥰 Callum and Everly just click, kind of like Zane and Juniper do. I still think that the first book was the weakest in the series.

I'm just glad the series is over. It was a bit of a rough ride, but overall, I still had a good time.

I was told not to play with dangerous things, but my mother is dead, and my father is wicked.
So I think I’ll play how I please.”

Talk about an ending with a bang. I've been sitting on pins and needles for this conclusion. Harley has been edging us maddeningly with the few snippets of Callum in the previous two books. But nothing prepared me for the full force of this demon!
That’s right, darling,” he whispered. “Last night I crawled for you, and tonight, I’ll crawl for you again. I’d drag myself through broken glass on my hands and knees if that’s what you wanted. No matter the pain. Regardless of the degradation. The harder it is to please you, the more I’ll try to succeed.”

First things first, this is not a standalone. You need to read this series in order for the full story arc, otherwise you will be lost. Each book is a new couple, but the story arc continues through the trilogy. This brings the epic conclusion.

Everly has been the mysterious secondary character that didn't fit in her devious family. And while she comes off shy and almost meek, you can clearly see signs that still waters run deep with her. And boy do they! When she meets the archdemon Callum, he brings out her strength and wickedness. Nothing is more satisfying then seeing the most feared demon bow to his queen and let her command him. Well, I guess it's almost as satisfying as when he switches into his dominant mode. But I digress.

This brought the much anticipated conclusion and I loved that it wasn't a big bad demon to save the day but a witch and her demon, with some help of course. I devoured this in a sitting and the spice was extra spicy. I'm not usually a fan of pegging in my romance, but it really worked here. Callum is obsessed beyond reason with his witch and I was so here for it. If you're looking for an epic, spicy paranormal romance with demons, witches, and gods, look no further! Deliciously satisfying.

3.75⭐️
AND THEY SAY ROMANCE IS DEAD*
•pregnancy trope…

Дуже хочу почати Her soul to take,ставлю високі надії на Рей та Леона🖤

Hands down, Everly and Callum’s relationship is the best written one in the trilogy. I did not want to stop reading or have their story come to an end. Their relationship seemed to have such a more natural build then the relationships in the other books and their spicy scenes were top tier. Though Juniper is still my favorite fmc, it was pretty badass seeing Everly find her power after knowing so little about her in previous books.

So this has definitely become of my favorite dark romance (paranormal romance?) series. The last two books of the trilogy won my heart a thousand times over. I’m so sad it’s over. 😭

4.5 Stars. I’m going to sleep on it, I very well may round up to 5 Stars.

Only the dust and darkness remained, swirling and settling like milk drifting through coffee.

Full review to come. But this, this is how you end a series. Harley brought the horror, the gore, the smut and the passion. And absolutely smashed it, in the best possible way.

“I could not own you any more than one can own the ocean, or a storm, or a forest fire. Those are not things one owns; their beauty and power cannot be claimed in such a way. But they can be chased. And they can be worshiped.”

You haven’t converted my favourite kinks but dam you did make these ones awfully enjoyable to read.

“Or our new terror.”
