Ravyn Kontis (Dark Hunter and Arcadian Werehunter) & Susan Michaels (Human)

Have you ever watched Shrek 2? Like I have…
Did you like the wicked, sneaky, cute Puss in Boots? Like I did…
Did you ever wonder how Puss would look like if he was a real man and not a cat? Like I did…
To be honest I always imagined that he would like Antonio Banderas (the actor that has lent his voice to the cartoon).

Ravyn is Kenyon’s version of Puss. His animal form is basically a kitty-cat. Susan is a reporter who saves Ravyn from an animal shelter while he is in his animal form and takes him home – despite the fact that she is allergic to cats.

Susan Michaels used to be the hottest reporter on the Beltway Beat, until her reputation was ruined. Now she is working for a friend of hers from college for a small newspaper writing about aliens and catpeople who transform to men and she hates every minute of her job. One day she will discover that catpeople and other strange creatures truly exist and that her friend is really a Squire for the Dark Hunters. (No, aliens are not real!)

Ravyn on the other hand –although he appears as a fluffy kitty cat- is truly a deadly assassin who eats Daimons for breakfast. Ravyn has done a huge mistake in his past which made him hateful for his family and which transformed him into a Dark Hunter. Thus, it is hard to trust women. Susan will have a bad time with him.

Ravyn: “Honestly? I don’t want people around me for two reasons – they ultimately betray you or they die on you. Either way, you’re screwed and you spend all your time obsessing on why you didn’t see it coming. Or that you did something or didn’t do something to cause it. No offense, but I don’t like to be hurt and I’d rather just avoid it.”

The book besides the story of Ravyn and Susan, also shows the world and the behavior of Squires while we learn what happened to Nick Gautier these last two years of his existence. Savitar is such a interesting character!

Savitar: “Remember, Nick, there are only two people in the universe I care for…and you’re not one of them.”

For me, the book was really funny. I laughed out loud a lot.
My favorite character is Susan with her spunky and colorful personality. I loved the way that she interacts with Ravyn, but also with her friend Leo.

Susan: “You know, if my life was a horse, I’d shoot it.”

“You don’t knock on the devil’s door, unless you want him to answer.”

Nicely developed story, many secondary storylines and characters, so much emotion, mystery and fate, love and pain, wrath, woe, guilt, and grief wrapped in one novel. The plot is exciting, well-paced, and well-worked-out with constant fights, but still followable. The final fight is excellently constructed. I loved both the humor and action in it.

Susan
She is irritating, bitchy, and nosy. A real smartass with sarcastic humor that is highly appreciated by Ravyn. But she is also brave, and a damn good fighter.

He laughed gently at her never-ending humor. Sometimes it was gallows and dark, but it never failed her. She wore it like armor.

Ravyn
He is a typical Dark-Hunter (Were-Hunter): dark, tall, lonely, and brooding, larded with a heartbreaking past.

He was exceptional. But it made her wonder what he’d be like if he was just an average guy on the street. No, she couldn’t imagine that. He was so much larger than life. A guy like this could never be average.

The romance
The development of the romance seems slow because so many things happen, but actually it takes only a day for them to fall in love with each other. I loved the parallel viewpoints: when they first notice the appeal in each other, when they both think they have no chance with the other, and so on.

“Her kiss was tender and precious, and there in the darkness it chased away the shadows of his past and eased the pain that had lived way too long inside him.”

Secondary Characters

Cael and Amaranda: great secondary storyline, I’m really curious about them.

Squires and Dark-Hunters: you get a glimpse into the life and work of squires.

Nick: well, Nick is back just to cause more calamity…

Ash: OMG, what a man!

Artemis: What a bitch!

Stryker: I’m starting to seriously like him.

Savitar: hegemonic and surprisingly talkative…

My favorite quotes.

What do I think?

Well for one, Ash needs to grow some balls. Or a spine. F*ck, even one ball would be fine for me considering the p*ssy he currently is :((( (actually, he's been like this from the start of the series which is the extremely sad point.

Second, Nick needs to be shot in the head but unfortunately that wouldn't work for him now, so yeah, he could grow some balls too and get into the adult side of life instead of staying an eternal whiny teenager. Oh well.

And so, dear Dark-Hunter universe:

Most of the reviews for this are either 4-5's or 1's. I think it has to do with the personality of the main girl, Susan. Everyone either loves her or hates her. And, I'm sorry Monty, but I loved her. We usually hate the same things, but I can't resist a character that is so sarcastic that every word that comes out of her mouth is snark. It's like we are soul-mates or something. She is the ultimate smart-ass and will make wise cracks even while everything sucks. I like that.

Susan is a reporter for a rag newspaper - the kind that features a disproportional amount of time and space on Bigfoot stories. She had been a respected reporter engaged to another reporter until she wrote a story without checking her sources thoroughly and was disgraced. She lost her job, her fiance, her reputation, and her home and money because of the resulting lawsuits.

Groaning, she rubbed her eyes. "You know, if my life was a horse, I'd shoot it."

One day she ends up taking a cat home from a shelter because her cop-friend said that this cat had something to do with a conspiracy. Upon arrival, her "cat" shifts into a man, Ravyn. Ravyn is a shape-shifter and a Dark Hunter.

"The last guy I had in my house could only turn into a beer drinking pig."

a pretty common occurrence!

Ravyn's appearance starts another shit storm in Susan's life. Now, the bad guys have the police in their control and they have framed Susan and Ravyn for the murder of Susan's best friends. So, Susan is not-so-gently introduced to the world of Dark Hunters in order to protect her.

"I've got to start taking drugs," she mumbled. "At least then I'd have an explanation for all this."

All of this takes place in Seattle, so we get to meet new Dark Hunters and squires, but we also get a couple of old friends since they were evacuated from New Orleans since Katrina. It is interesting how Sherrilyn Kenyon worked the real-life tragedy of the hurricane into the fictional story. We even hear from Nick, who has decided that all of his problems are Acheron's fault. He has turned into a major Bitty Betty. Dude, take some responsibility for your own actions! Ash didn't put a gun to your head!

So, they are all trying to figure out why the police are working with the daimons and what they are trying to do. Hint- they are trying to kill all of the Dark Hunters in Seattle. (I guess that was more than a hint.)

I really liked this book and there were some really important bits of information for the future of the series in it. Susan cracked me up most of the time, and Ravyn was also pretty sarcastic and funny. All in all, I am disappointing my friend, Monty, who wanted me to hate Susan with her. Sorry, Monty!

I normally love the Dark Hunter series, but I just couldn't get into this one. My faviroute scenes were the ones Nick was in. I am totally in love with him!
Overall, the book was okay, I don't think you need to read it to get the story. So, if you want just skip it. It really won't matter.

This book could have been spectacular.

Susan Michaels is working as a reporter for a tabloid. Two years ago she was a star investigative reporter in Seattle, chasing the big stories and winning awards. But after chasing a lead that backfired, she was disgraced. Her boyfriend of four years left her, all her friends (except Jimmy and Angie) left her, her house and car were repossessed. She's an orphan and has no family.

At this exceptionally low point in her life, she tried to kill herself on Thanksgiving while at home by herself in her roach-infested cheap apartment. Quickly realizing the mistake she made, she calls an ambulance on herself and vows to fight and live, no matter how bad things are.

She's also conveniently a martial artist AND an ace driver. Mmmmmm-hmmmm, I'm sure. *rolls eyes*

That's our heroine.

Ravyn Kontis is a were-leopard who was murdered by his brother Phoenix and brought back to life by Artemis to serve her as a Dark-Hunter. Now he's a rare were-leopard/Dark-Hunter crossbreed. Unable to stand sunlight, travel through time, or teleport - he still has a lot more power than your average DH or average were-animal.

Besides his really tragic backstory, which I will put under this spoiler tag, he doesn't have much of a personality in my opinion.

When he is trapped in his cat-body, he's put in a metriazo collar to suppress his powers and is taken to the animal shelter to be put down. Sue is called to take him by her friend Angie. Angie's detective husband Jimmy is on to some sort of Daimon conspiracy, which he tries to warn Sue about.

Sue takes the cat home against her better judgment. She is violently allergic to cats. After taking off the cat's collar, she is surprised when he becomes a handsome, naked human man.

...

Great set-up, this is a great set-up. I was like "Oh, boy, let the fun adventures ensue!" Sadly, it was not to be.

Here are the problems:

1.) Kenyon seems to be writing this novel as a entrypoint for new readers. She spends literally at least 30% of the novel explaining everything that happened in the previous 14 books in excruciating detail. And I do mean excruciating. If you read the last 14 books (as I did) you can safely skip just about every third page in this novel. Just skip any paragraphs where some character launches into an explanation of something that has already been explained to you 1,000 times in the course of the series. This book is painful for Kenyon fans who already know her world and her mythos. She uses Susan as the "newbie" to take the place of the new reader and has everyone explain everything to Susan (the reader) as if she knew nothing.

Very tiring.

2.) Susan is allergic to cats. I realize that this is Kenyon trying to be cute and funny, but I didn't find this cute or funny. Ravyn makes Susan's head clog up badly, she is constantly sneezing and sniffling around him, and touching any hair of his makes her skin itch like crazy.

And this is the man she's having sex with.

I was cringing, this sounded so unpleasant and horrible. At one point she gives him a blowjob and I was just wincing in sympathy. The idea of doing something like that while having your nose stuffed up and runny, and also having to take breaks to sneeze uncontrollably sounds like a nightmare to me. I can't see ANYTHING pleasant about it and the fact that Ravyn stands there and lets her service him like this is just OKAY was seriously pissing me off. What a piece of shit! I was REALLY angry with him.

Kenyon totally plays the fact that Susan's rather violently allergic to Ravyn as a hilarious joke, but the idea of her being with this man for the rest of her life when she can't even sleep in a bed next to him without being miserable is disgusting and horrifying to me.

Finally Ravyn reaches a point where he's just like, "I'm going to shave all my hair off." I was rejoicing until Susan said, "Don't you dare!" I do not understand her reaction AT ALL and I didn't really get an explanation from Kenyon. I guess the idea she was trying to convey was that if Ravyn shaved his (waist-length) hair and body hair off, he wouldn't be attractive anymore or something. Which is bullshit. That's the least he can do since for Susan being in the same room as him is like being constantly sick. She is going to have a cold for THE REST OF HER LIFE. A never-ending head cold. This sounds like hell.

Kenyon has a HUGE thing for long-haired men. 99% of her heroes have long, long hair that they either wear down or in a ponytail.

3.) Romance (such as it is, with flavorless Ravyn and sneezing, suffering Sue) takes a major backseat in this book - not only to Kenyon's lengthy explanations of her world, but also to side character development. Oh, this is what's going on with Nick Gauthier, let's talk about him for three hours. Oh, Ash is having sex with that horrible evil woman again, let's talk about that for two hours. Oh, Stryker, he's evilly plotting to take Acheron down, blah blah blah.

Listen, I don't read these stories for Kenyon's unique and elaborate take on Atlantis and Greek mythology. I read them for a good love story and good kissing and sex. Neither are delivered in this book. So it's a failure in my eyes.

...
Other Notes:

- Susan seems to have a real chip on her shoulder about taking orders and following directions. This chip seemed to only appear when the person giving orders or directions was male. This was never explained, and I (a rabid feminist) could not really understand her knee-jerk negative reaction every time a man told her to do something. It made her seem a bit unhinged to me. I mean, she'd unload on a guy for telling her to do something when it is obvious the guy wasn't being an asshole, just making a suggestion or giving her advice or trying to keep her safe. It was unreasonable and weird. And trust me, for ME to be saying that of all people means that it really was.

- Susan really has a strong sense of personal responsibility. She accepts the blame for whatever happens in her life, and doesn't blame other people or God or whoever for what has happened to her. That was one of the few good things in the novel.

- Kenyon just HAS to slip a little bit of female self-hatred in the book, doesn't she? When Susan is introduced to an attractive female character, we get this:

Susan started to mention the fact that it was a bit nippy outside for the outfit but held her tongue. Maybe the woman would get a cold and gain some weight... At the very least, she'd cover up that perfect body so that Susan wouldn't feel quite so inadequate.

Note to self: Start a new diet tomorrow.

One, this grates my cheese. Have some respect for yourself, woman! Do you have ZERO self-esteem and self-confidence?!?!!? Jeez Louise. Two, this is pretty out of character for Susan. I mean, she just didn't NOT seem like the type of woman to have this reaction AT ALL up to this point, and then never exhibits this attitude again. Which just means that it was TOTALLY unnecessary and could have been left out of the book.

In summary, I hated this book for a number of reasons. Feel free to skip/ignore it unless you're a huge Kenyon fan or actually care about the Nick/Acheron/Stryker subplots.

P.S. I despised Erika. She put Ravyn and everyone else's life in danger NUMEROUS times and was SUCH a spoiled brat.

Dark Side Of The Moon is the ninth installment in Dark-Hunter series. As always, Sherrilyn Kenyon delivers an excellent story, a fantastic combination of Fantasy, Romance, and Action, in her own unique writing style. This book contains an interesting storyline and endearing characters.

Ravyn Kontis was a Were-Hunter, an Arcadian leopard, who was betrayed by his human mate and that caused him to lose his loved ones, his family, and his life. With his wrath and the need to take revenge, he became the Dark-Hunter. Since then, he had lived a life of loneliness. His family hated him and turned back on him.

Susan Michaels was once the successful investigative reporter until she wrote one story that ruined her career because she trusted her source. She lost everything, her job, her reputation, her boyfriend, and her home. One day, she got a call from her friend, told her to go to the animal shelter for very interesting news, her whole life was turned upside down since the moment she went there, took the cat out, and brought him to her home. She was dragged into the world she never knew existed and her life was going to change forever.

There were some unexpected moments that gave me surprises, and some sweet moments Ravyn and Susan spent together, which made me smile and feel so happy for them.

I loved all the fight scenes in this book, they filled with excitement and danger. The romance is good, I loved that they took the time to build and develop their relationship and trust.

I would have given this book 5 stars if I hadn't had a super big problem with Nick Gautier! I was extremely disappointed in him and I got really mad to the point where I had a wild urge to smash his teeth down his throat. I hated that he let his anger and misery blind him to his own faults. How dared he blame Acheron for his death?! He acted like a child who couldn't admit his mistakes. He didn't deserve to be a Dark-Hunter!

However, this is a very good read and I really did enjoy it so I ended up giving 4 stars to this one.

This was one of the better Dark-Hunter books in the series so far. I loved the humor and also enjoyed the fact that the romance was on a slightly slower burn than is typical with most PNR books. I felt that gave time for both Ravyn and Susan to grow attached to each other on more than just a physical level.

Susan is a disgraced news reporter who has been relegated to working at a paranormal focused newspaper, run by her old college friend, after a scandal cost her her career in mainstream media. Ravyn is a Were-Hunter based in Seattle. The pair meet each other when Susan tracks down a source who has a lead on a story involving the recent vampire-like slayings in the city to local animal shelter. While there she adopts a strange looking pet cat to keep her cover story in place. That cat turns out to be the Were-Hunter Ravyn who has been trapped in animal form by some new Daimon magical collar. Susan manages to unintentionally rescue him from the Daimons and is soon caught up in the happenings as the Daimons are eager to get their captive back.

The story was humorous and fun. It was helped along by the small things like the fact that Susan is allergic to cats! Susan was a likable, strong, and surprisingly capable heroine while Ravyn was a good guy with a typically tragic back story. I thought they made a great couple and I loved the slow build of the romance as they had to learn to trust each other.

As well as the typical Daimons Susan and Ravyn also had to deal with corrupt cops and the villainous Daimon leader Stryker. This book actually added a bit of depth to Stryker's character. We also got more progression in the overall series story arc with appearances from Savitar, Acheron, and Nick, as well as Stryker. I always enjoy it when the books in the Dark-Hunter series have a good balance between the novel story arc and the overall series story arc.

All in all this was an enjoyable read.

Rating: 4 stars.

Audio Note: This was narrated by Carrington MacDuffie who I always think does a good job with the series. She gets the over the top humor.

Ok, the ending/epilogue to this book, had me like...
 photo tumblr_m2eg3uJFKM1qgynin_zps00084993.gif

The rest of the story just had me. What I mean is, though there were things I had no clue about, events that had already occurred in other books that I have not read, it still did not confuse me to the point where I was just lost & could not enjoy or appreciate this book.

This book is part of a huge network of books. All things tie in together in some form or fashion. But with this story, with everything going on with the current plot, new plot developments, subplots & the fleshing out of the main characters; nothing was too much or over the top or took away from Ravyn & Susan's story. These two have crazy white hot chemistry together. The how of them crossing paths, & the why of them becoming attached to one another was not only believable but quite touching at times. And it doesn't hurt matters that Ravyn is fine as hell.

This book has non stop action & intrigue. LOL moments, passion, lust, love, mystery & suspense galore. And some heart breaking moments too.

I would definitely recommend this read.

Dark Side of the Moon

I haven’t read a book in this series for some time. I was getting bored and tired with it. For that reason, I’m quite surprised that I liked this book as much as I actually did.

To be totally honest I don’t remember a lot about the previous books. Most of the time it wasn’t a problem and I caught up on the generally plot pretty easily. And to be honest I wasn’t that interested in it. The plot in just this book is not difficult to follow and it’s enjoyable.

One thing that I remember from the previous books are the overly tortured characters. Ravyn and Susan are not an exception. What’s more Susan turns out to be some sort of a warrior comparable to Dark Hunters which is totally unrealistic. But anyway, the characters in those books are rarely true-to-life. And after all, I prefer her this way rather than some weak and silly arm-candy.

As I said I enjoyed this book, it is a quick and easy read with likeable characters. Sometimes taking a break from a series seems like a good idea. It’s looks like this is the case.

Argh, frustrating story. Least favorite of all the Dark-Hunters in the series (I've read the first 10, this being 10). The story did have some interesting backstory on Acheron, Nick and Stryker, but not enough to read the book in my opinion. The main romance story was a bust. Heroine (Susan) was like nails on chalkboard who spoke mostly sarcastic comments. I really wanted someone to just slap her down, just once! The hero (Ravyn) was OK, but his tortured past was no different than any other Dark-Hunter. The romance was so unrealistic. I would classify this book as a 'wall banger'.

WOW. Lots and lots of badly done sex wrapped very loosely around a...plot? Wait, was that a little plot I saw over there? Too tiny to make out, poor little neglected thing!

I think if a caveman came into the modern world and was introduced to this as his first book, and was told there were libraries in every city in the world with hundreds of these things, he'd hit everyone with it and return home to announce civilization has gone backward. Let's just say if you ever run into this book in a dark library, run away.

2.5 (Right down the middle) Meh Stars ....

I am so neutral on this book, it is taking all I have to muster any type of energy to even review it. I did love or hate any of the main characters. I literally felt nothing.

The animosity that Ravyn has with his family was Meh.
Their reconciliation ...Meh
The insta-love with Ravyn and Susan ... Meh
Even when someone died the other characters felt MEH ... They DIDN'T even care about this story.

Obviously you're probably gonna read it anyway because the series MUST GO ON, but there is absolutely no fireworks here.

February 6, 2015
I was excited this was another Were-Hunter book, but it's also a Dark-Hunter book. Ravyn (I thought that was a chick's name)was born a leopard/cat were & became a DH later, so he's both.

Susan is a disgraced reporter who now works for a tabloid. She gets suckered into taking home a cat (which is really Ravyn with a power negating collar on) & she's highly allergic to cats - yeah, hilarity ensues (no, not really). Due to this initial meeting between the two characters, the rest of the book is rife with cat jokes: "I think he has to use the litter box, " "Puss in Boots," etc.

When the two mc's meet, Ravyn thinks she's a squire & orders her about like one. Susan thinks all this supernatural stuff is a gag joke on her that her friends are pulling & that Ravyn is a hired model - this means many pages of her boring inner monologue talking about what a hoax it is & how she'll get her friends back. She finally realizes it's not & gets pulled into the DH action & world.

The first parts before they enter the Squire/DH world reminded me of Katherine Hepburn & Spencer Tracy in that movie where they're reporters/editors; this is not a compliment as I hate Hepubrn's annoying voice and manly attitude. Now that there's a mystery afoot!, the book reminds me of Nancy Drew. Now I love Nancy Drew, but the books are tediously over-detailed, archaic, and the villain is always blatantly obvious. Same thing here + that "mystery solving" methodology. There's a very juvenile feeling to it, hence the Nancy Drew reference.

The rest of the book is more sleuthing, several villains with the evil muahaha-ing & rubbing hands in glee - Dr.Evil style. The whole thing felt put upon & not very creative, too obvious. They really needed Scooby & the Gang on this because they figure out the villains at the last possible second. Also, Susan is TSTL. And I feel nothing for Ravyn.

Other characters:
Nick - wtf, just wtf. Completely trashed this character, changing him from a fun & loving, responsible 20-something into a whiny, bratty, bitter, vengeful, unhelpful, whiny, irresponsible, uncaring of others child.

Stryker: He's growing on me. I can see why he gets a book later on. He's becoming a multi-faceted character vs a silly villain.

Satara: Really? Was her presence necessary? It's too obvious, under your nose.

Acheron: Well, 1. No Simi appearances, sadly. 2. I am so beyond effing tired of his shite shenanigans with Artemis. He's unbelievably stupid in this book, repeating mistakes he made in Seize the Night. Letting Artemis yank his chain whenever she wants. He may be 11,000 years old, but he has as much common sense as the 21 years of age he looks.

That's all I can think of. I'm sure there's lots more that annoyed me & more characters I hated, but this sums it up. I'm proud of myself for omitting the many, many f-words I wanted to use; just thinking them in my head.
I wish I'd skipped this book

I had to go back to read this one since it had not been available from the library when I would have read in order with the other books. Going backwards did it no favors. First, subjecting myself to Acheron/Artemis sex scenes made me want to puke. Seriously. They were awful before, but really, really awful after reading Acheron.

I felt almost no romantic feelings bewteen the MCs. I get that Ravyn was hot. Since it seemed all we heard about from the heroine was her inner musings on all the hot guys. But I felt nothing beyond that from her and ZERO from the Hero towards Susan. Absolutely nothing.

Their mating was a bore. And what happened to bonding? After the sage advice from the brother and then nothing? No discussion even? Then why did Ravyn think she would live a long life? They did not bond.

The plot was somewhat interesting but since I had already read later stories there was not much new.

The next book due up for me is Styxx. I need to prepare myself for extreme depression. Joy!

Dark Side of the Moon is the tenth book in Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series. By now, I've read all but three of the full-length DH books, and there have only been three that I have not particularly cared for. Well, now there's a fourth to be added to that list. While this book had an interesting premis and the story, overall, was pretty good, the heroine was obnoxious and that affected the whole reading experienced for me.

The heroine, Susan, was constantly (and I mean constantly) making some kind of quip about what was doing. Now, I can respect sarcasm and humor in a woman, in anyone, but Susan was a little over the top for me.

I liked Ravyn, though. He was a cutie and a sweetheart. However, I felt that he told her about himself and trusted Susan too easily. All of the Dark-Hunters have felt betrayal; that's how they got to be Dark-Hunters in the first place. That being said, they have the tendency not to trust very easily and not be quite so open with their pasts. While it's true that Susan found out about his past from Dorian, Rave's brother, Ravyn answered her questions a little too honestly to be realistic in the beginning. Why would you tell a complete stranger your secrets?

I thought it was ridiculous that Susan was allergic to Ravyn. At first, it was kind of funny, but after that, I just wanted to shoot one of them to put me out of my misery. I don't really want to hear about how she's sneezing up a storm while she's trying to have sex with Ravyn.

I loved the Squires and other Dark-Hunters. It was really nice to see Otto again after Seize the Night, and I loved Kyl and Leo. The Dark-Hunter Zoe was pretty hilarious, and I liked Cael, even if it was weird for me that he was married to an Apollite woman.

So, Ravyn is the only Dark-Hunter who doesn't want his soul back? Yeah, that was a bit ridiculous, too, in my opinion. Why on earth wouldn't he want to be free of that bitch Artemis so that he could just live his life with Susan?

Nick Gautier, that little shit, needs to leave Acheron alone. I can understand Nick being bitter and angry about his mother dying and his becoming a Dark-Hunter, but I in no way appreciate him blaming Ash for everything, especially Hurricane Katrina. Ash can only do so much people! Even he has rules! That being said, though, I know that Nick gets hooked up with Satara (the bitch) and Stryker somehow and it was nice to see how he got roped into that.

Also, I was pleasantly surprised to see a little bit of a nicer, softer side of Stryker. Now, I know that he's in no way this nice guy, but it's always nice to see the super baddie have a little bit of a soft side.

Overall the book was okay, but it's not one of the Dark-Hunter books that I would rush to re-read.

I read this one sometime last month and was supposed to write a review for it but RL has been kind of crazy so it somehow slipped through the cracks.

It's the story of a Were-Hunter, Ravyn, who finds himself in quite a pickle that Susan, a disgraced reporter, unwittingly gets him out of. A good friend of hers has asked her to visit her at the animal shelter she works at for a story, and makes her adopt a cat before she leaves.

The story sounded crazy, but when the cat she adopted changes into a lethal man that saves her life, she has to open her mind to all kinds of things she didn't believe were real before.

Her world turned upside down, Susan is now firmly in Ravyn's world, where vampires exist and so do shifters and daimons, and a centuries long war has been taking place that she and most of humanity knew nothing about.

Eventually, Susan uses her investigative reporter skills to help Ravyn uncover the truth about the increased daimon activity and the recent death of a Dark-Hunter in the region.

Apart from the romance between the couple of this book, that doesn't exactly end like the others, since , Nick reappears and makes a colossally stupid decision that will no doubt cause havoc in future books.

The series continues with a novella about Dracula's only daughter, Until Death We Do Part.

OMFG!!! She’s done it to me again!! I settled in for what I knew would be a great PNR book, thinking that it would be a quick and easy read - I should have known better. Yes, I slipped straight back into Kenyon’s incredible world, but an easy read… not so much, I was flipping pages madly and my heart was pounding through most of it. I can’t think of another author I’ve read who puts so much story into her stories, it’s just amazing. I can’t believe everything that happened in this book! This is the tenth book in the Dark Hunter series, and in addition to the story told in this book, the story arcs continue from previous books, as well as new storylines starting.

This book was primarily about Ravyn, the swoony Were / Dark Hunter who is described early on in the book as “sex on a stick”. Yeah, I’ve gotta agree with that! I loved his character. Apart from his paranormal abilities and his undead-ness (yes that’s a word, I just made it up), he seemed so much like a real guy. His actions and his dialogue were so believable, and he wasn’t over the top in his Alpha-ness, and I really liked that.

Susan was also a great character, with lots of sass and sarcastic humour, and the two of them were perfect together. Their love story seemed real and believable, and I loved that they had a true friendship in addition to the romance.

We got to understand a lot more about the Squire part of the world in this book, which I enjoyed, and there were a lot of new characters, in addition to lots of characters re-appearing from previous books. Thank God for Sherrilyn Kenyon’s website with its database of characters (and cheers to Aestas for hooking me up with it) – it helps keep everybody straight and I’d probably be a bit lost otherwise!

I loved seeing Nick come back into the action, but am in disbelief at what is going on with him. Where is that going to go? And Cael! His story was tragic, and again left me wondering what’s going to happen there? Stryker provided a few surprising moments, and I'm keen for more of his story. Savitar’s cameo was brilliant as always, and had me laughing out loud. And then there’s my beloved Acheron who showed up, and was more tortured than ever . Part of me dreads getting to his book because I can’t bear to see him suffer any more, but then again, I need to see him get his HEA. He’s such an amazing character.

I love this series! Kenyon makes me feel so strongly for her characters, that each book and every little twist is absolutely heart wrenching. But she adds in great action, laugh out loud moments and sensationally swoony romance and I just can’t get enough! Love it!

I found the hardcover edition "Dark Side of the Moon" for $5.99 on the Borders bargain books rack. Sherrilyn Kenyon has a lot of books in print and seems to be quite popular. I'm not into the whole vampire lover genre, but for $5.99, I figured I could at least see what made Kenyon so popular. I must now shamefully admit that I really enjoyed "Dark Side of the Moon". I could have done without the whole gods/daimons/Dark Hunters/Appolites/etc. back story, but I loved the character of Susan. I loved her sarcastic, spunky attitude. I liked how she reacted to the weirdness around her much like I would have. The romance between her and Ravyn was good too. It was entirely predictable, but enjoyable nonetheless. I rarely like sex scenes in books because 99% of them are so poorly written, they're both awkward and funny. However, the scenes between Susan and Ravyn were very well done. I blush to even say that.

In some ways, "Dark Side of the Moon" reminded me of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" TV series. It was sexy, funny and had girl-power. I don't know if the rest of the Dark Hunter books are anything like this. Frankly, I really don't want to read anything more about Acheron. I would like to read stories about Zoe or Belle, two Dark Hunters who appear only briefly. I'd like to know more about what happens to Erika. I'd like to follow up with Cael and Amaranda. I wonder if there's anyway to pick and chose the characters I'd like to learn more about.

By the way, I gave this only 3 stars because it's not particularly original and it's pretty trashy (in a good way). It would get another half star if we had them.

I think this was the first Sherrilyn Kenyon book I ever read-talk about jumping right in to the Dark Hunter world. I love the Dark Hunters and this is a fun one. Anyone who loves the DH series will love it, and PNR romance lovers will love it. I strongly recommend reading them in order (I did not-it sucked).

Susan rescues a cat who is really a dark hunter. He turns from cat to leopard to man in front of her, and she's calm about it-I loved that. She didn't scream or go all girly and faint. Girls who faint make me stabby (which is ironic since I would probably faint). It was a fun book to re-read now that I've read through the series, and know the characters and the world better.

I think that one of my favorite quotes ever came from this book:

"So tell me something, how did you do that earlier trick?”
Ravyn grimaced. “What trick?”
“The cat thing. How did you switch?”
Why did humans always want that question answered? Even if he explained it, it wasn’t like they
could do it. “It’s magick,” he said sarcastically. “I mumble hocus-pocus and the next thing you
know, I’m a cat.”
She narrowed her eyes at him. “I suppose it’s a step up. The last guy I had in my house could
only turn into a beer-drinking Pig.”
In spite of himself, he gave a short laugh at her dry tone. He had to give her credit, she had a
quick sense of humor, and he was quirky enough to appreciate that in other people."

3.5 stars - A good but not great read for me. The chemistry seemed a little off with Ravyn and Susan - I was never completely sold on it but it is nice to see him have someone to support him after the fiasco he calls family. The police plot fell short also - lacking some of the suspense of other books in the series for me. However, Archeron always brings a smile to my face! Just not with Artemis! :(
