The Fallen #2

Angel Betrayed

A Little Bit Of Angel Lust

Sammael--call him Sam--was an angel once. An angel of Death. But the dispassionate, watch-from-above thing just wasn't working for him when it meant watching evil torture innocent souls day in and day out. It might have cost him his wings, but these days he gets to apply the direct method on the bad guys. Problem is, what's making his life difficult is a bad girl. . .

Seline O'Shaw needs protection, and with the hounds of hell on her tail, she's not going to quibble too hard about where she gets it. Sam's virtue is questionable, but he's smoking hot, massively powerful, and owes her a favor. So what if she's getting a little case of angel lust? There are some damn deadly sins after her hide. . .

Yes you have!

This book has such a perfect bad-fallen-angel anti-hero, OMG!

He is bad. He doesn't care about it.
He doesn't plan to change, it's just the way he is.

She wants to kill him.
She doesn't care what it'll take to do it.

I've been thinking how to write this review and I realise this is gonna be a gushing one, and probably totally idiotic because I just want to say this is BRILLIANT and I completely and totally LOVE this book!

One of the BEST PNR books I have ever read! Seriously!

THE WRITING STYLE

I just have to. Cynthia Eden is such a brilliant writer, I am so glad I started reading her!
The writing is intense!
There is ALWAYS something happening! Always!
And everything is explained so well, we get bits and details along the way that it isn't overwhelming, it's easy to follow the story, and still have huge fun with the action and romance.

THE CHARACTERS

This is the MAIN reason for my 5 star rating.
They are uber-dimensional.
They do things that aren't good, sometimes to each other.
They have tough decisions to make, and they both have tough personalities.

But most of all, the main guy.

SAM

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

He's like the fallen angel mob boss of the demon underworld :D
Everyone is afraid of him, with good reason.
He ALWAYS has a hidden agenda, he is incredibly smart, and doesn't regret anything he's done.
I fell in love with him in the first book, even though he was pretty much a bad guy there, and I just have to say that I absolutely LOVE the author for not changing his personality!

Usually when there's a bad boy who gets his book, he turns good, redeeming himself for his sins, blablabla, a lot of suffering and "poor me what have I done" yadda yadda thing.

Sam stays in character, because he has such a strong f*cking character!!!!!

OMG how I love him!

I don't want to say more so I don't spoil anything for you, but seriously, he is at the top of my PNR males.
Exactly because he's an anti-hero.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The ending was so intense, I was crying and reading like a crazy woman cause I couldn't stop until I saw how it finished and it was AMAZING!

So people, I am giving a HUGE recommendation here, HUGE!

Because this is so amazing, and my review sucks but I don't know how else to explain it without giving much away :(

I have to say though...

READ THE FIRST BOOK!!!!!

before you get to this one.
It is VERY good and Sam has a HUGE part in it that you'll just have to see and understand before this one.
All the books from this series are connected and I wouldn't recommend reading out of order.

But PLEASE!

This is just not to be missed!

1-2 stars..

What a complete disappointment.

For being a succubus the heroine has only had 3 lovers I expected her to have many many more. That was the reason I read this book. While the hero has had many. You do math for 500 years that he has had lovers. He even thought he was in love with a human some hundreds years back.

Heroine was too pathetic. The way he treated her was horrendous! And the fact that he doesn’t grovel at all!!!! He goes “oh I thought you were setting me up and lying to me” 🙄

I mean it’s ok right? It’s not like she died when he was driving a car and he braked so hard that the heroine went head first hitting her head on the windshield, dislocating her shoulder, bleeding her ass out, because he thought that she was the hound’s master. And it’s also ok that he threatened to killed her and meant it. Yes it’s ok because he did not go through with his threat. As long as she just turn the other cheek around so he can still do shit to her right?

If you asked me this is the worse hero I have read from this author.

In case you’re wondering. This is completely safe.

3,5 “The darkness had never burned so bright “ stars ⭐️

A bit spoilerish .... ❗️

I was actually expecting a dark H , a bad boy , was expecting a mighty dark mean Fallen that doesn’t look for redemption and doesn’t have any regrets for his deeds.... I got .. Sam ... Sam who is bad , but not that bad if you know what I mean. Maybe I am used with my really dark H out there and that’s why I wasn’t very impressed.🙄🙄🙄🙄

Anyway, I liked the story well enough to finish the book , but it took me 3 days to read it , this doesn’t happen when I love a book ( I usually do it in one standing).

The storyline takes over where the first book finishes. Az fell and Sam wants to find his brother to kill him. That’s the most he thinks about lately and is not interested in other “jobs” at the moment, but when Seline , the h, ask him for help and protection .. guess what? He refuses her 😂😂 ( was funny tho, would have liked to see her face) .
But wait ! He only pretended to refuse her and he actually helps her ( where is that bad guy everyone was talking about??).

The story is action packed... lots are happening, many new characters are introduced and this is where we meet Rogziel the villain in this book. He is a punishment angel and wants to punish badly Sam, Az and all the other Fallen.

Sam and Seline team up to kick some ass... set ups , betrayal happen between them ... some death promises from H part towards h , but nothing extreme , nothing that makes Sam BAD imo.

Overall, I liked Sam, Az , even Mateo .. Seline was a bit annoying at times but I didn’t hate her.

The last 3 chapters saved this for me tbh .. otherwise would have been a 3⭐️ read .

With sexy Fallen Angels, and a sultry half-succubus, the pages steam from page one.

This is one of those novels that stuck with me long after I read it. I kept having daydreams about my own Fallen Angel, because, wow, Sammael is one sexy hero. The shadowy image of his black wings is such a nice touch. He’s a Fallen, and he’s one of those bad boys who doesn’t care about anything. But when Seline dances into his life, he realizes that it kind of sucks not caring about anything. Especially once he realizes he cares about Seline.

Seline is setting Sam up, big time. I love betrayal plots, and I love watching the hero/heroine try to get around that to have a relationship. This betrayal was early on so they had plenty of page time to fall in love and deal with Seline trying to kill him. Also, maybe she wasn’t going to kill him. She’s tricky like that.

Seline is a half-succubus, and the father-figure in her life is a Punishment Angel. He’s not a Fallen, since he still has his wings, but he’s not as favored as he thinks. He uses Seline to get him close to his mark, then he…delivers justice. One thing though, is he keeps telling Seline that she is an abomination, and he feeds her a lot of misinformation, so we get to see Seline learning and making her own judgment. I liked seeing her change her opinion on certain things because it made her a fantastic heroine. She wasn’t needy, or whiny, or TSTL. She was easy to like, and you wanted to root for her.

Sam was an Angel of Death, and his touch can kill, yet it never hurts Seline. Why is that? Is there more to her than just her succubus side? And what exactly is her other half? There is quite the twist towards the end that really had me thinking there might be a different ending. I love when an author can mislead me without making me feel like the ending came out of left field.

Cynthia Eden is one of my favorite authors, I especially love that her romantic suspense is actually paranormal romantic suspense. You can’t beat that!

Ms. Eden has a way of sucking you into her story and keeping you breathless until the ride is over.

This was rich with excitement and danger as well as a relationship that had me gasping, crying, and cheering for the bad guy.

Sammael is not your typical hero but then again, Seline is not your typical heroine. That fact was quickly obvious and snagged me within a few pages. This author is known for amazing characters but she took it to a whole new level with this couple. They kept me guessing as to the what, when, and how. Their story is intricate and I found it impossible to gulp it down but instead savored each morsel.

With a fast pace, this had secondary characters that intrigued me, a storyline that had twists and turns I never saw coming, and enough steam to make my Texas summer feel downright chilly. This can be read as a stand alone but is even better if you’ve read the first book in the series, Angel of Darkness.

Sam is a fallen angel, he used to be the Angel of Death but he fell because he refused to atone for taking the lives of men who deserved it and now centuries later he is a powerful being and Seline the heroine needs his help.

Of course Seline is bait for him, she is a succubus who can drain energy from others by just a kiss but Sam is no fool and catches her and they strike a deal, she will help him get his brother Az, who has recently fallen. Seline wants freedom, she hates her demon side and is half angel but having been raised by a psychotic Angel of Punishment she has been lied to and misled all her life.

As usual Cynthia Eden presents a lot of action, running around, hot sex, the works and even though it may be formulaic I loved it. Sam and Seline worked for me, having met under subterfuge their moments of doubt were expected. We get to meet Keenan and Nicole as well and a Guardian Agent and his ward and hell-hounds.

An enjoyable read.

His tongue licked her lips and stroked inside her mouth. Slow. Easy. As if he were sampling her. Her tongue slipped to meet his. To taste. To want. When he pulled back, she had to fight to keep her hands off him. His gaze studied her a moment, and she bared dared to breathe. "I'm not human," he finally agreed, his voice a deep rumble. "But neither are you, sweetheart. Neither are you."

Wow! I knew I would enjoy this book, but I had no idea just how much I would LOVE it. Cynthia Eden has quickly paved her way as one of my favorite paranormal romance authors. Her books are fast paced, sexy as sin, incredibly hot and unforgettable. Like Seline and Sammael I was addicted to Angel Betrayed from the very first page. One moment I'm laughing, the next I'm luxuriating in the sexiness, then I'm cheering on the good guys with in Edens novels are sometimes really the delicious bad boys, and then I find myself crying because I've become so unbelievable wrapped up in these characters lives that when they feel pain I feel it right along with them.

It was killing time, and he could kill a man as easily as he could caress a lover.

In the prologue we witness Sammael an angel of death fall from Grace. He was frighteningly sexy, and I admired that he could no longer sit back and watch men rape, and murder women and children without hashing out his own death punishment. Quickly I was immersed  into his charming character and I enjoyed his strong Alpha-Licious persona he oozed. I was infatuated with him instantly and I'm not sure how Seline was able to keep her hands off of him for so long because I found him simply irresistible. He's a dark, dauntless character and he's definitely someone you want on your side when there's a target on your back. Therefore he's not surprised when the succulent Seline whom he also employs comes to him in dire need of protection from men endangering her life. But you don't live this long escaping Hell without being able to smell a trap when it's right in front underneath his nose.

"I'm not here to save the world," he told her, and then he reached for her again. Wait-the jerk was moving her out of his way, not trying to embrace her. Then he yanked open the door and told her,  "Sweetheart, I'm just here to watch it burn."

Both are unsure what the other is, but one thing they can be sure of is that neither Sammael nor Seline are human. But he's already mesmerized by Seline's charm long before she asked for his help, so he's willing to do what's necessary to discover her motives and perhaps get to know her better.....physically.

Unfortunately for her kind, lust was kryptonite. The closer the temptation, the stronger the weakness.

Seline is such a fearless and fun character! I instantly was mesmerized by her mysterious yet manipulative nature. She's a seductress that knows what she wants, and goes after it. Fortunately when her plans fail to work she goes right back to work to obtain that goal she's seeking. I find those fascinating qualities in a heroine because as an ambitious person myself I revel in reading ambitious characters, even if their ambition is to suck a mans soul dry. Lol. Seline may be a beautiful blonde temptress on the outside but she also has a genuinely kind and beautiful heart on the inside that she keeps hidden under her courageous interior.

"He's a real piece of work. A fallen." He shook his head and kept walking. "Can you believe an angel would be dumb enough to fall from Heaven?"

I've seen dumber things." Like you, just walking away from me now after you admitted you left me to die. Seline grabbed the nearest object she could find--a metal chair that she lifted easily--and slammed it into the back of Alex's head.

He's suspicions of Seline's motives lead him to spend quality time with her investigating brutal murders of other fallen and she might just be next. Sammael cannot possibly leave Seline to a fate as brutal as these murders even though he's not sure if she will be the death of him, and that's saying a lot because well he's unstoppable. One thing Sammael is sure of is that Seline is everything his bad boy self desires but everything his angel side tells him to walk away. She's his drug of choice and he's addicted, but he's not alone because Seline may be frightened of Sammael, one thing is for sure is that when he's around she craves him. Let me just say that Sammael knows his way around a bedroom and a woman's body because the provocative scenes in this book kept me blushing as they were scorchingly hot and I indulged in every bit if them.

"I can bring death with my touch." His lips brushed over hers. She didn't flinch. He took that as a sign of progress. "Or I can bring pleasure."

It was all a matter of what he wanted.
With her, he wanted pleasure.

Together they begin to track Sammael's  brother Azrael or also referred to as AZ that he is suspicious of and has now fallen from grace himself leaving both desiring the others bloodshed. While searching for AZ a punishment angel named Rogziel that raised Seline from a child is seeking to wipe out "other" which are supernatural creatures that he has decided to hand out their judgement of death for being an abomination in his words. He's a disgraceful angel and I just wanted him to fall. While on this journey Sammael and Seline finally realize the magnetic pull that I noticed on the first page between these two. They're such a breathtaking couple that each time they're around one another it's as if the world ceases to exist.

When she could suck in a full breath, she tasted power and pleasure. And knew--as she'd suspected from the beginning--that she'd found an addiction.
Sam.

This book made me cry so hard towards the end as I felt all hope was lost, and though I really truly hate crying in books, I must say that Cynthia Eden is such an amazingly talented author that can make me fall in love with her characters, feel their pain and joy simultaneously with them. This was my first book I've had the pleasure to read by Cynthia Eden and this won't be the last. I highly recommend Angel Betrayed to fans of paranormal romance, and lonely  characters that seem unlikely to get together but in the end all that matters is that they have trust and love and the rest will come easily.

This is a story about being lost, finding love, redemption and sacrificing all that's good for the one you love! Would you sacrifice a gift or something beautiful for true love? I know I sure would, and this is why I enjoyed Sammael & Seline's story from beginning to end!

Angel in Chains releases in November 27, 2012 and I can't wait to read it. Now that he's survived I'm so curious to see what's in store for Azrael (AZ)  story because he's a brutal bad boy, but I see a bit of goodness in him and I hope that he and Sammael can have a relationship.

"Death was his business, and his business was booming."

You'll definitely Fall for Cynthia Eden's Angel Betrayed!

Sammael was once an Angel of Death until the day he could no longer stand by while innocent lives were being taken, and for that – he Fell. Centuries’ walking the earth as a Fallen has taught Sam two things; you can’t trust anyone and the bad guys aren’t just the humans and demons that walk beside him.
Seline O’Shaw is half-succubus and willing to do whatever it takes to gain her freedom. Raised by the Punishment Angel, Rogziel, he uses Seline to lure in those he deems in need of justice and punishment while telling her what an abomination she is. But Seline has come to realize that not all of Rogziel’s victims deserve his brand of justice.
She’s using him to gain her freedom, he’s using her to find his brother but in each other they’ll discover things within themselves that they never thought possible; including a chance at love. Will the betrayals between them be too many for even love to conquer though?

Angel Betrayed was a spellbinding paranormal romance that charmed me from the first page. Cynthia Eden knows how to weave a story to captivate. The superb world-building will pull you right in and the dynamic characters will keep you turning the pages. What I loved most about this book was neither of the main characters were flawless, they each carried demons (literally) and made many mistakes. It just endeared them more to me.

For those who have been following the series, Cynthia Eden delves deeper into the world of the Angels with more characters as well as the hierarchy and politics of Heaven. We also learn that there is more to Sam then the cold, dangerous and slightly evil side we saw in Angel of Darkness. He didn’t Fall for a woman, vanity or even selfish pleasures; he fell for justice. Add that great sense of honor he hides so well to his bad boy attitude and the sexy swagger to pull it off, this is one angel that will leave you panting.
Seline was also a wonderful character and made for a kick-ass heroine full of spunk and determination. All she wants is her freedom and to get it she is not above deceiving Sam but that hard exterior slowly starts to crumble as she discovers more about herself and learns her own self worth. I never knew just which way Selline was going to go; she’s a character that will keep you on your toes. I really enjoyed watching both character’s evolvement, they completed each other well and it felt like to parts making a whole when they came together. The passion between them sizzled; but with a succubus and a centuries-old Fallen Angel you should expect that right? Well get ready for that cold shower because Sam and Seline will even blow those expectations out the door, these two together are H-O-T!
A little twist made for a surprising final few chapters and I can’t wait to see what else Cynthia Eden has in store for us with The Fallen and Az in Angel in Chains (November 27th, 2012).

Angel Betrayed is part of The Fallen series but set up well to be read by itself. One of my favorite paranormal romance authors, I don’t even look at the blurb anymore before picking up one of her books. I know I’m going to love it regardless!

Action-packed, steamy, really entertaining story. I liked that the dialog and brief sentences revealed intentions, characterization and world building, instead of long narrative and internal monologues. It made for a very fast-paced reading and I’d like to read another installment.
HERO is a Rogue, a death angel fallen to earth because he took punishment in his hands. Powerful and ruthless, he doesn’t hesitate in eliminating his enemies, therefore he can’t understand why he wants to keep the suspicious but sexy succubus female alive, in his bed, and very close to him.

WOW! Just WOW!!!

This is by far, my best experience with Cynthia Eden so far. The story offers bad-ass hero, tough heroine, viscious (and pretty f*cked up) villains, terrifying hellhounds (!), a scorching hot romance, and all around non-stop action. It keeps me awake because I can't stop reading it (even on the bus!).

This series intrigued me because the hero is not the "typical" hero. I mean, sure, we have bad-ass heroes in this kind of book, but Sammael (and the hero for the next book, Azrael) is actually portrayed as the 'enemy' beforehand. In book one, Sammael is not really helping Keenan (the hero in book 1) by the goodness of his heart. And Azrael is the one responsible . So the set-up in the beginning is already different.

Sammael is a Fallen, and he is one of the strongest there is. His reason to Fall is bad-ass by itself. Nothing can (really) stop him -- even facing hellhounds (who are literally FROM Hell) he just shows his power. At the same time, when he falls in love (finally!) for Seline, he shows this vulnerability, without losing his strength. Seline is his and Sam protects what's his. Gosh, the sacrifice he's willing to do for Seline. This man is so HOT! ^_^. Their romance is not simply fireworks, is NAPALM!

Seline might start in the beginning as a half-demon (she's a half succubus, from her father's side) who thinks she doesn't have enough power and embarassed by her own heritage. Sure, she can kill someone with a kiss but she always sees herself as low class demon, thus weak and vulnerable. But when Seline discovers what she can do, hell yeah, she kicks ass (she actually able to stun Sam by surprise a couple of times, so you GO Seline!).

The villains are all f*cked up in mind (shudder). I actually love how this series show angels as not being entirely good or innocent. Hundred of years of servitude can messed up their own definition of guilt and punishment. I like that. It's so complicated and layered and twisted.

My only reason for not giving it a 5-star rating is that the trust-distrust issue between Sam and Seline (well, mostly Sam after half the book) feels repetitive at times. It does disrupt my joy of reading. But other than that, this book is super-awesome!

I cannot wait to read Az's story in November. I wonder what lesson this newly Fallen learns on Earth and what woman can brings him to his knees. I am soooo looking forward to that.

Growing up under the watchful eye of a punishment angel, Saline has been using her succubus gifts against the wicked since she was a teenager. But her latest mark is someone more powerful than she has ever encountered. Sammael is a fallen angel, capable of killing with just one touch. He sees through the wiles that usually work on other men --and quickly she realizes he could be the way to get her out from under Rogziel's thumb.

Thanks to her succubus gifts, a physical relationship develops right away for Saline and Sam. That quickly evolves into a partnership as Saline agrees to help Sam track down his brother Azrael in exchange for his help in gaining her freedom. But even as they work together and share passion, trust is slow to come. And though they start out using each other for their own ends, it becomes something much more between them.

One of the things I liked best about this book was that this was no instant-love story. The feelings between Sam and Saline develop slowly over time. Sammael is this hardened, deadly weapon. Anyone who has ever truly known him has feared him, but not Saline. It's just this pure passion... and hope that he can help her gain her freedom. He could kill her with barely a thought, but even when he figures out he is her target, he doesn't. He remains guarded, but at the same time recognizes something between them that he doesn't want to let go. He's growly and bad-ass and I really enjoyed him.

Saline has grown up surrounded by lies and violence, but she still knows right from wrong. She does a good job balancing her morality with her need to survive. I thought she was likeable and did the best she could with the hand she was dealt.

The sex is really hot in this story, as you'd probably expect with a succubus heroine. There's also a lot of action and an interesting plot --with a cool twist at the end. This is the second book in The Fallen series. The main characters from book one do make an appearance, but I think it was easy to jump in as a new a reader. The world here is rich with secondary characters, primed and ready for their own stories. That includes Tomas, a fallen guardian angel in love with his charge... as well as Sam's brother Azrael, who did some bad things in book one, but has turned himself around.

I liked it. And I'll pick up book three when it comes out.

“I figure you owe me, Fallen.”
“Seems you told me that before.”
“Well, yeah, I did. Because every time I turn around, you’re owing me.”

LOVED IT!!!!!

Oh...Cynthia Eden you did it again.I just can't resist reading your books.Once again here I am giving 5 stars to an incredible book.Angel Betrayed is an amazing addition to The Fallen series.Since Angel of Darkness I've been patiently waiting for Sam's story and finally I read it!!!
Wow...Sam and Seline????Talk about chemistry.Especially with an angel and a half succubus. Well done Seline!!!Playing with a fallen.
So,the story goes like:girl is in danger, she goes asking for help from a fallen and he decides to play good.Boy helps girl(can bad boys do that???)until he realizes that looks are deceiving. But not everything is a lie.Girl tells the (half) truth to boy and he wants to play the good knight in the shining armor and save the damsel in distress. One tragedy follows the other and we come facing the question:What would you sacrifice to save your love???Would you spent a thousand years burning in hell just to see your beloved one???Maybe not you but Sam definitely would. That's why I love him so much...
Not much more to say other that you should,no you must absolutely read Angel Betrayed.I definately recommend it and I can't wait to read Angel in Chains, the third book in the fallen series(I'm not sure but I think it will be about Tomas and Sierra) and hopefully not the last.

Wow, this one turn up to be so good. Better than the first, Angel of Darkness.
Really love Sammael aka Sam. He still evil till the end, the fact that he fall in love with Seline don't change his devilish character a little bit.

Favorite quote :

“Angels . . .” Sam shook his head. “Sometimes, they’re just too damn cocky. Just because they’re high up on the food chain, it doesn’t mean they can’t still get eaten.”

Lucky, I got Angel in Chains (The Fallen, #3) by Cynthia Eden from netgalley. Woohooo, can't wait to read Az' story. Even I still prefer Sam :).

Freedom is so close Seline can almost taste it. One last job, that’s it and she can finally be away from those that raised her. Killing Sammael won’t be an easy mark. He’s smart, doesn’t trust anyone and she doesn’t know what he is or what will kill him.

Sammael has been an angel of death for centuries. Now as a fallen angel he’s just as formidable and can still kill with a simple touch. Seline is hiding something and he’s sure of it. She may not know who he is, but he’s not sure about what she is either. But he’s willing to do whatever it takes to figure out her game.

Oh Cynthia Eden….I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love your fantastical writing skills. Whenever I feel like I am going into a book slump, I know that if I open one of yours that slump will magically disappear. With each turn of the page you pull me deeper into your story and way to soon I read that last word and have to sadly wait for the next book to come out.

Angel Betrayed is the second book in Cynthia’s “The Fallen” series that focuses on angels who may look heavenly but have a bit of the dark side in them. Readers met Sammael in book one, Angel Of Darkness, and he made quite an impression on this reader then. He’s so cocky and keeps his emotions so shuttered that it became impossible not to want to know him. Seline had no idea just what she was getting into when she baited him to save her in a attempt to get him to help her cause. The woman definitely had a brave streak a mile wide. Not only did she have the sexy man candy to deal with, but a whole heap of other trouble in the form of paying a debt and trying to leave a fold of people who are all she knows.

Seline, though her exterior was incredibly hard, was self conscience about her parentage and really wasn’t overly sure of what she could or could not do. Having nothing but a scary bedtime story of her past for information. Of course the information was given to her by the man who raised her and who could barely stomach the thought of her but used her to further his hidden agenda.

Sparks flew with these two…even with Seline being at least 1/2 succubus and Sam not being able to stay away from her even though everything told him to. I enjoyed watching these two realize that they didn’t have to be alone anymore. That they could count on someone other then themselves and that they deserved a bit of happiness.

Sammeal is def a alpha type male. I love how Cynthia manages to make her hero’s so strong and yet have some limitation in them that is stopping them from happiness. Watching all their past sins laid bare for the reader in order to finally move on to what they were meant to do, is a journey that I enjoy taking again and again. Cynthia Eden is a master that you need to experience for yourself!

Wonderful continuation of the story arc started in Angel Of Darkness that is leading up to book three- Angel In Chains- which I really hope delves more into Az (the now newly fallen angel) and his personality. I am completely infatuated with him and his bad boy attitude. Everyone seems to think he’s a bad guy, but the glimpses of humanity make me want to know more. Especially now that he is fallen and has to deal with the backlash from that.

I am a sucker for angel lore. I gobble up every story I can find with them and Cynthia is certainly indulging me with this series. Her writing is always engaging, always easy to read and always one of my favorites!

I give Angel Betrayed by Cynthia Eden 5 stars!

I am a big fan of Cynthia Eden, she is a master storyteller and her books are always memorable. I have read and loved her Night Watchers books and her Midnight books and was thrilled to see her enter the world of angels. This first book in this series, Angel of Darkness, introduced us to this world and once again affirmed my love for Cynthia. We meet the hero for Angel Betrayed, well I am not sure I would call him that, but we do meet Sam in the first book. He was an enigma for me at first, because I was not sure if he could be trusted and I was eager to see what Cynthia had in store for him in Angel Betrayed.

Sam is not a warm touchy feely kind of guy. He has so much rage inside him, many fear being anywhere close to him. Can’t say I blame them because he does not have a soft spot for anyone. That is until he meets Seline. She approaches Sam on the premise of her needing his protection, but her true intentions take a little while to come out. She was a spitfire and I loved her for not just bending to Sam’s will. The result of the two of them butting heads was an intense chemistry and passion for one another. Although trust was something they were not willing to give out to one another right away. They had to learn to let someone else in and it was not an easy task to accomplish. I enjoyed their journey together throughout this book, they came to learn so much about one another and themselves which helped me really connect with them.

The action in this story was non-stop. It was one conflict after another being fired Sam and Seline’s way and I soaked in every minute. They barely had time to stop and breathe, which kept me flying through the pages to decipher who was really after whom. The Fallen may not be perfect, but the angels that still have their wings are not either. They think they are better than the others, but in Angel Betrayed we learn that everything is not what it seems in Heaven. I am sure this theme will continue through the rest of the series and I am very interested to see how it will play out.

The ending of this book had me on the edge of my seat! There were quite a few moments I did not see coming and thought there was no way Sam and Seline were going to make it out. Cynthia did an excellent job of building the suspense and had me guessing the outcome until the very end.

Overall, this book was amazing. It had everything I wanted and more! For any fans of paranormal romance, this is a series you cannot miss. I suggest starting with the first book, Angel of Darkness first and then reading this one. The end of the book sets up two different stories for two very different Fallen and I anxious to see who will get their story next.

Wow. Just wow. I started reading Angel Betrayed fairly late at night and was resentful when I had to set it down at 3am to get some sleep. I couldn’t wait to get back to it! Seline had me intrigued from the beginning. She’s not your average heroine. As a half succubus/half fallen angel, she isn’t out to save the world, she’s just trying to save her own ass. When she is sent to kill Sam, the biggest and baddest Other around, she sees her chance to finally be free of the Other that commands her. It’s not often I get an anti-hero and anti-heroine in the same book and I loved it.

Both have been betrayed in the past and struggle with trust, while they slowly start to fall for each. As more is revealed about Seline, a vulnerable side starts to emerge from her tough-girl image. That side was just as fascinating to me as the succubus who will do anything to survive. And Sam’s ability to embrace and support her tough side while sheltering the vulnerable made me fall in love with him. Watching the ultimate badass lose his mind when the woman he can only describe as “mine” is in danger is both beautiful and sometimes heartbreaking.

The world building in this book is superb. It’s one I was able to step into easily and not want to leave. New Orleans and a cast of complex secondary characters sets the perfect backdrop for this over-the-top romance. If I could give Angel Betrayed more than 5 stars, I would. I was hooked from page one and sighing happily at the end. One of my top five paranormal reads of the year.

Angel Betrayed is how paranormal romance should be! Fast furious and sexy! Over 6 years I have read tons of paranormal romance and have enjoyed a many of them, but as the years have gone by I find it harder to come upon true romance in the stories. Cynthia Eden hits the nail on the head with this one. Get ready for an emotional ride with characters you can read over and over again. My hats are off to you Cynthia and I CANT WAIT FOR THE REST!!!

I have never been an angel fan, but I absolute loved how Cynthia portrayed the angels and how she brought the story to life. I really felt the connection between Sam and Seline from the first and I loved how they continued their romance together. It was fun reading how Seline worked her magic of betrayal and how these two fell in love all because of it. After reading this book you’ll agree the author hit the nail on the head with the title, but it made the whole book all the more steamer;)

You get a hot romance, a great villain with lots of action that will keep you turning the pages, all I can say is go get the book and see what all the fuss is about. I know this book will go on my keeper’s shelf.

This is a standalone as a matter of fact I didn’t read the first book and I never felt like I was missing a thing. I highly recommend this to any romance reader.

AHHHH...Sam.
So, I liked Sam in Angel of Darkness, Cynthia's first book in the 'Fallen' series. Yeah, I know, I know...he's bad. But really, he's not all bad...I knew that Sam had redeeming qualities and I was anxiously awaiting this book so that I could find out what they were.

I really like this series. I enjoy the bad, fallen angels - what girl doesn't like a bad boy? It's really no wonder angels feel NO emotion - how else could one be an angel of death? Sam's biggest downfall was that he DID feel - and he couldn't take it any more. Who can blame the guy. So he slaughters a few hundred men who have committed heinous crimes - I have to say - I don't think he was in the wrong there.

And Selene. Poor Selene. What an existence. My heart breaks a little for her and all the crap she's been fed by Rogziel. But I'm so glad that she and Sam fall into each other, despite their lack of trust in one another.

Then there's Az....OH, how I want Az to have his own book so badly. I was shocked that he and Sam ended up almost working together, rather than trying to kill each other. And a little bit of time with Keenan and Nicole was just the icing on the cake!

Another great story by Cynthia! Can't wait to see what comes up next in this series...I do love a good fallen angel story!

Sam is AWESOME! Unrepentant, powerful, arrogant, but caring and protective. I enjoy Ms. Eden's twists in the stories, and I loved Sammael, in all his grandeur. I didn't particularly relate with the female lead (whose name I've already forgotten ><) and I can't really buy the whole "I didn't know, wasn't told, I was mislead etc" routine she kept pulling. At 30 years of age, a mortal would have done more research into his/her family tree and their health issues, than she did.. really? how plausible is that in the 21st century? I want to see more of the Hellhounds.
Will I read the author again? Yes
Will I buy the next books? At some point

This one didn't really work all that great for me. I had a hard time buying into the relationship. For most of the book these 2 hated each other, yet slept together. It seemed like at every turn they kept telling the other how they couldn't trust the other one. Then all of a sudden after the action and things seemed resolved they couldn't seem to sacrifice fast enough to be together.

While I like the world this book is set in and some of the secondary characters, I hope the next book is better than this one.

I remember being intrigued and curious about Sammael, AKA Sam, from the first book, Angel of Darkness. Like the first, neither character is very good or bad. Shades of gray this very much is. It seemed, at least for awhile, the one that was truly evil was consistently overlooked and allowed to go on and on.
I liked the twists and turns. Both characters I liked and had depth. Seline was a personal favorite. She started out ignorant, having not known she was being lied to, disliking herself. She comes full circle and I liked her growth throughout the book. Sam, what can I say? He was likable as well and he meet his match with Seline.
Az's book is next and I look forward to his as well.

3 1/2 stars.

ARC received from NetGalley

3 1/2 stars - Angel Betrayed is a story about a powerful fallen angel who falls in love with a beautiful half incubus girl. Sammael, known better as Sam, was once an angel of death. His orders were not to interfere, but to bring death to those who were on the "list." His job was not to judge or to feel anything regarding the deaths that he brought to various people. After many senseless deaths of children and women by brutal means, Sam decided that he would take matters into his own hands and began bringing death to those whom he deemed worthy. Sam is able to kill with just the touch of his hand. Although he only brought death to truly horrible people, he was kicked out of heaven for not following his orders.

Seline is the half-incubus that has her own agenda and is the original reason why she was cozying up to Sam. Seline works for an evil angel, Rogziel, who is hell bent on punishing fallen angels on earth. She has been offered redemption for the work she does for him. Seline has been with Rogziel since she was a girl, and is trying her best to get away from him. Although she respects Rogziel, he has told her over and over again how she is an "abomination." He has structured her thought and her self image since the time she was a young girl. However, she has agreed to get close to Sam. She has known Sam for a while, and thinks that he is very sexy!

Strange. She'd never thought Death would be particularly sexy. He was. His eyes were the brightest blue she'd ever seen. His cheeks were high, his jaw hard and strong, and his lips - sensual, but with an edge of cruelty she couldn't miss.

Seline goes to Sam to ask for protection from men who are trying to kill her. Seline is naturally attractive, being part incubus, and Sam is immediately drawn in by her magnetism. Unfortunately, Seline is also conniving and working against Sam. You have to give it to this girl - she has a lot of chuztpah for trying to double cross Sam. Thankfully, Sam is a smart enough character to realize a set up when he sees one. Regardless of motives, there is scorchingly hot chemistry between these two. Neither one particularly trusts the other, yet they are drawn to one another.

Even if she hadn't agreed, he hadn't planned to let her go. The deal wasn't truly about Az or Rogziel. I just want her.

Sam has a second problem - his brother, Azrael or Az for short, has fallen from Heaven, too. Az was always the more self-righteous of the brothers. They are opposites in many ways. Az is blond and fair compared to the dark and brooding Sam. Sam is hell bent on killing his brother because he feels that his brother betrayed him before they both fell from grace. For me, Az was a very sexy angel. I hope to hear more about him in the future.

Although Seline tried several times to betray Sam, he refuses to let her go. This leads to many trust issues between the two. I don't blame Sam one bit for not trusting Seline, although I understand why she is trying to capture Sam. Trust is the main issue through most of this book, and Sam is a difficult man to gain trust from.
So he'd gone a little crazy. But he'd never touched her and thought of death. With Seline, it was always about life. She made him feel more alive than anything or anyone else could.

Seline has to work very hard to earn Sam's trust because of all the scheming she has already done. Sam treats Seline really poorly as a result of this lack of trust, and she leaves him. I agree with her decision by this point in the book, and think she forgives Sam way to easily. Although she did try to double cross him in the beginning, her depth of feeling for him by the end of this book cannot be denied.

"Whatever happens, remember...I don't care what shit Rogziel told you, you aren't an abomination. You aren't evil." His gaze narrowed. "But sweetheart, you are damn well mine."

One thing in this book that delivered constantly was the hotness between Sam and Seline. Sam is a wild, primal lover, and Seline knows how to please a man. With Sam, though, she is taken to a different place. She doesn't want to have a one night stand with Sam, and she doesn't want to feed off of his sexual energy like she does with other men. Sam only has eyes for Seline. He is all alpha, and once he figures out that he wants Seline, he wants her forever. There is no diverting his attention.

There is a series of events that occurs at the end of this book that cements the love between Seline and Sam. They are parted for a while, but their love for one another brings them back together, through very difficult odds. I was happy to see that these two were able to come to terms with their trust issues and to love without bounds.

One issue I had with this book is that a lot of the angels seem to have sinned greatly. Not all of them have lost their wings and fallen to earth. Even though there seem to be a lot of fallen angels, there seem to be just as many not-so-good angels that are still flying around up in Heaven. AS much as I enjoyed the non-stop action in this book, the author writes in a choppy style. There are a lot of very short and rough sentences. This is just one of my issues - a lot of people are not bothered by the choppy writing style.

All in all, this was a good story. I liked the action, the development of the characters and the sexual tension. I will definitely read the next book in this series. I always love a good angel book!

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales

Quick & Dirty: Non-stop action and page turning tension clearly make Angel Betrayed an exciting read.

Opening Sentence: Death could be kind or he could be cruel.

The Review:

Seline has been put in a precarious situation. She has to capture, contain and hopefully kill a man named Sam for her boss, Rogziel. Rogziel has always had input over Seline all of her life. He has raised her to believe that she is an evil abomination for her succubus side. Seline knows that she cannot get away from Rogziel, as a punishment angel he always knows where she is. Seline is not aware of Sammael’s Fallen angel status until the night she goes in for the kill. Sam is a lot stronger than she first thought, she then realizes that only she has the actual power to kill Sam but Sam could also save her from Rogziel.

Sam and Seline’s attraction for one another is apparent from the very beginning but they both have ulterior motives. Sam wants Seline because she knows where his brother Azrael is being held prisoner. Sam is haunted with settling a score and wants nothing more than to kill his brother. But when Az escapes, Sam and Seline team up for Seline’s safety. Then when it looks like Az is killing other Fallen angels, they know that they have to stop him no matter what, while trying to avoid Rogziel and his hounds from hell.

Seline isn’t very likeable at first when she is trying to ensnare Sam into her trap, but when her inner motivations come out, I was instantly rooting for her. Her tragic past and the bleak outlook for her future, she knows Rogziel plans to kill her and a witch has foreseen her future covered in blood, will have you hoping that she will survive what is put in front of her. Sam has always had eyes for Seline since he first saw her but he knows she is up to something. So when she finally reveals her hand he has no problems scaring her with who he is or even setting her up as bait. Sam’s motivations towards Seline weren’t always practical but I still wanted them to be together.

Trust and betrayal are the major themes in this novel. Sam and Seline absolutely do not trust each other. They want to but they can’t, not when Seline can drain Sam’s powers dry and Sam can just kill her from one touch. Just as they begin to step forward in their relationship, they feel they are betrayed by the other.

Angel Betrayed is a non-stop action ride from the beginning when Seline fakes an attack on her to the revelations that are discovered at the end. The story is told in the third person through the eyes of Sam, Seline, a few fallen angels and a very bad punishment angel. The world is still as stark and dark as the first book in the series but all the more intriguing.

Overall, this is my favorite book of the series so far. The world sucked me in to make Angel Betrayed a quick, enjoyable read. I did feel there was one thread left dangling in the world but I have a feeling Angel in Chains will deal with that. If you are a fan of tragic but strong characters I highly recommend this series.

Notable Scene:

Alex was getting away. Seline took off after him. Her legs pumped fast and she jumped into the air.

“Seline!” Sam’s snarl.

She tackled Alex. “You’re not getting away that fast.” They crashed onto the pavement.

“Fucking demon bitch. Traitor.” He rolled and came up fast. “You’re not getting away at all.” And the knife he’d gripped in his right hand came at her throat.

Before he could touch her, Sam touched him.

Alex’s whole body jerked as if he’d just been hit with an electrical charge. His eyes rolled back into his head, and a silent scream contorted his face.

He shuddered, then a moment later he fell to the ground, his body frozen. Dead.

Seline’s gaze rose to Sam’s. The pounding of her heart seemed far too loud. He’d told her what he could do, she’d known how powerful he was, but seeing him, well . . .

He’d just killed with a touch.

Very, very scary.

He offered his hand to her.

FTC Advisory: Kensington Brava provided me with a copy of Angel Betrayed. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Holy shit this book was good! I don't rate books 5 stars as often anymore, but wow did this book deserve it! It was absolutely fantastic.

Sam. Oh Sam, he was such a great character! He was never a very mushy, touchy feelings kinda guy, but that made me love him even more. Because in those very rare moments when he did confess his feelings to Seline, I felt like it went so much deeper. Sam knew exactly who he was and exactly what he can do. He was just the right amount of confidence, bordering on arrogance, but never truly passing the line into complete asshole-ness.

Seline. I also absolutely loved her character as well! Lately, many of the heroines I've been reading have not been doing it for me as much, but Seline was a complete badass with just that hint of vulnerability that we all love. I love that we got to see her confidence in who and what she is develop throughout the book. At the beginning, we see her using her succubus powers to manipulate because that's all she's ever known. Over time, we see her realize her succubus powers is a part of her and that just having those powers does not make her an abomination.

Seline x Sam? 🔥. They had so much chemistry from the very first chapter that just continued to burn hotter and hotter throughout the book. I think their relationship developed at a perfect pace. It wasn't insta-love. Insta-lust yes, but not insta-love haha. But it also wasn't so slow to the point I'd call it a slow burn. I've always hated insta-love and lately I've been too impatient for slow burns, but this relationship was just the right pace. We saw them go from enemies to acquaintances to allies to fuck buddies to trusting fuck buddies and finally, to lovers. Love, love, LOVE.

Let's talk about some of my favorite scenes!

Scene 1:
When she could suck in a full breath, she tasted power and pleasure.
And knew--as she'd suspected from the beginning--that she'd found an addiction.
Sam.

And this was the moment we see Seline falling for Sam.
A sad laugh slipped from her lips. "I didn't have anyone else to turn to."
His hand tangled in her hair. "You do now."

*cue the awwes* My heart positively warmed.

Scene 2:
"I trusted you. I fought for you! You're an asshole, Sam."

Man, I felt so bad for Seline in this scene. I felt her sadness, and anger when Sam didn't believe in her. They were getting along so well with the whole trusting thing and when she should have been able to count on Sam to trust her, he didn't even give her a chance to explain before believing the worse in her.
If Seline truly hadn't known...I have so screwed this up.

...And that was the moment he realized he fucked up.

Scene 3:
"No!" Sam lunged forward but slammed into the invisible wall that had been created by the holding spell. "Fuck, no!" He blasted the wall. He let fire rip from his hands. He shoved every inch of his power--
"Seline!"

Damn this scene was intense.
Seline--dying?
No, no, not fucking possible. He'd just found her. He'd promised her freedom.

--
"Love...you..." Her lips whispered the words as she stared at him.

SHE LOVES HIM. *cries*
Pain twisted her face.
He could only watch. "Seline!" The skin of his hands split open as he battered the walls that held him.

Like I said, intense right??

Okay, but let's pause my scene collection for a second. Can we talk about the fact that Seline became an ANGEL after she died? Did not see that one coming. Okay, let's get back to my favorite scenes!

Scene 4:
"Sweetheart, you are back, and I'm not letting you go. Stay. Just...stay." He had to make her stay. "I'm more..than what you've seen. We can have a life together. We can have everything."
Because he'd give her anything.

*Cue the awwes again* I really didn't realize I can love Sam even more than I already had, but my god these last few scenes were proving me wrong.

Scene 5:
"I dreamed about you," he whispered.
She tried to smile. Couldn't. "And I dreamed about you." Her heart beat so fast she hurt.
"I tried to save you." Gruff, torn from him.
She shoved back the memory of fear and pain and of his eyes--on hers. Afraid, angry. Desperate.

Oh my heart.
Sam stared at her. "I wanted you to be free."
And she'd just...wanted him.
"Are you happy?" he asked as his gaze searched her face. "Tell me you are, and I'll just walk away."

He was willing to let her go if it meant she was happy. Even when he knew he'd be miserable 😭.
"I love you. You got to me, Seline, and I can't--I can't let you go."

Oh, Sam.
"Don't fall for me!" he shouted up to her, his face stark. "Dammit, I'll find another way! I can get redemption! I can come to you! Don't fall for me!"

He was willing to go through 1000 YEARS of HELL for her. If this ain't commitment to the max, I don't know what is.

Scene 6:
"Why?" Delia's voice was ragged, and Seline knew the angel realized there would be no changing her mind.
"Because I love him."

That's right, Seline! You go get your man!!

Scene 7:
"Say it and it's yours. Tell me what you want."
"I want you. I want to stay with you forever."
"You've got me."

...And they lived happily ever after.

Other random thoughts:
- How adorable is it that they named their hellhound Beelzebub?
- Sierra was kinda annoying. Not gonna lie. Poor Tomas.
- So we got to meet Azrael and let me just say. He's kind of an asshole. I know the next book is about Azrael and I was originally planning on reading it, but after seeing his character now, I don't know. I'm sure he'll redeem himself in the next book, but do I want to even bother seeing him redeem himself is the question. Because usually, even when I think a character is an asshole, he's usually an interesting one enough that I would like to see more into his character. But in Az's case..I'm not sure.
- I love that that one spell is called the get-the-fuck-away spell. HAHA

So aside from the amazing story, the writing was super great as well! It was not only easy to read and follow along, but very well done for being third person. Sometimes, third person POVs take me awhile to get used to because of the way an author writes it, but Eden's writing had a smooth flow.

Okay, but here's a extra scene for ya'll I also loved!
"You here to dance?" Sam asked.
"Maybe..."
"No, I-I didn't mean--" he began, then broke off shaking his head. "If that's what you want..."
Now she was the one who was surprised. "Sam?"
He turned away from her. "Everyone!" His bellow froze them all instantly. All eyes turned to him, and Sam ordered, "Get the fuck out."

HAHAHAHA.

I’m not a big fan of stories about fallen angels. Case in point, I have yet to read the Fallen series by Lauren Kate or the angel stories by Nalini Singh and Keri Arthur. I keep meaning to try it but every time I think of fallen angels, I’m just bleh. No excitement or anticipation at all.

Cynthia Eden changed all that.

Holy Mother of God. She changed the whole fallen angel myth with her superb storyline. Her plots are excellent. Something’s always happening. Twists you wouldn’t expect blow up in your face.

Sammael is one of the baddest of the baddest, an angel of death ruling his little corner of earth with a fierce mess-with-me-at-your-peril attitude. He’s awesome. I loved that he’s an anti-hero and he had no plans of changing. He was bad and he was cool with it. He accepted who he was and he didn’t give a damn what anyone else thought.

Seline was his perfect match. She was audacious and brave and yet vulnerable at the same time. She was a seductress and yet she had a kind heart. She wanted to do the right thing. I found her very likeable. I loved the twist in the story concerning the hellhound.

This was another great story from Cynthia Eden, with an action-packed plotline and secrets that keep you turning the page.
