Ugh, did I have a hard time with this. Here's why:
Chapter 1 Maria Roth smirked at the shy girl Chapter 2 There he was, smirking over at her Noah had smirked at her, a wicked angel smile Then smirking when they were caught Mischievous smirk that made him smile Chapter 3 She shivered and he smirked Chapter 4 Eden glanced up and smirked at Noah He smirked “Of course.” Chapter 5 Door close slowly behind her, smirking Chapter 6 She smirked at him deliberately Lucy with a cruel smirk Chapter 7 No one smirked for a whole chapter! Chapter 8 While Eden smirked Chapter 9 Eden smirked back at him Noah smirked Chapter 11 A flirtatious smirk on her lips Instead she smirked at Noah Eden smirked humorlessly Chapter 12 She smirked affectionately at him A bitter smirk curved his lip Chapter 13 He smirked at her He smirked at her now Chapter 16 Noah smirked, watching them Chapter 17 Noah almost smirked Chapter 20 Eden smirked and handed over 20 dollars Chapter 21 His mother smirked and sat down beside him Epilogue Smirk of pleasure
And I honestly don't think I caught all of them.
Same syndrome as the other books I've read penned by Samantha Young. The characters do nothing but smirk.
I can actually entertained myself throughout the read imagining the different ways they smirk at one another.
“It was a house of horrors. And she was part of it.”
To Eden Winslow her family, and their kind they are “Blessed”. To the Neith and Ankh Warriors that hunt them, they are “Soul Eaters”.
Eden Winslow is 17 and on the cusp of coming of age, but her life has never been normal. After seeing the terror that goes on in the basement of her home when she was only a child, Eden has feared what she would become once she was awakened. Eden is a loner, and her brother Stellan has always been her best friend, until she meets the new boy at school Noah, who is also a loner. Noah and Eden become fast friends, but it wasn’t until she met Noah that her predatory instincts awakened. This sends Eden into a constant internal battle with her humanity when all her soul eater side wants to do is what’s in her nature to do. She’s being pressured by her family to have her Awakening ceremony, and also facing a prearranged betrothal that she doesn’t want.
Noah seems to be the only person who understands her, even though he doesn’t know what she is…… or does he?? As the story unfolds, Eden becomes the most hunted by the Neith Warriors, as well as her own kind.
I will admit, cover love is what got my attention, and then I read the blurb and this sounded like my kind of story, something a little different so I took the plunge! This story hit all the right spots with me, I was hooked at the prologue, and could hardly put this book down. Eden is such a fabulous character, she’s multi-layered and such a bad-ass to boot. Eden suffers a lot in this story, betrayal, loss, and trying to contain the monster within. I found this story to be very well written and not the fluffy YA one might expect. I found the secondary cast to be well developed too. This story is full of action and Samantha Young isn’t afraid of violence and killing off some characters. There is alot that goes on in this story, and I don't want to give up too many details. I know there is more to this journey and I can’t wait to continue on with Eden and see where the story takes her.
I can't believe I am the only one who is going to write a negative review about this book.
There were a lot of those little things that got on my nerves. This girl (her name is Eden BTW. Ugh! These authors choose 'unique' names to make the girl special) is a typical loner and has only one friend who happens to be be also a loner and surprise, surprise,a hot dude. She also has a family that pressures her to become this Blessed paranormal thing that sucks souls and she doesn't want to. She also has a sweet caring (a little bit too caring-if you know what I mean)brother. He was nice but their relationship freaked me out. So,it turns out that the loner BFF is a Ankh (how do you pronounce that? I was reading it like Aaankhhh, using my pirate voice :D),a enemy of the Blessed. There is a battle and these Aaankhhh dudes kill her whole family. WTF? They slice her brothers head in two. (0_O okay...) That was the wackiest part of the book. They practically kidnap the poor orphan and try to convert her to their Aankhhh beliefs. She hates the good looking BFF and they ship her to Scotland so they wouldn't have to listen to her nagging about her dead family.
DAMN! And thinking about how I was about to give up on this one makes me want to suck-out ROMANNY'S soul!
As, I was saying, I was about to end this novel thinking that this is just another one of those disappointing paranormal romance in which the authors think that they could just threw a very BELLA-like kind of girl, partnered with a gorgeous KNIGHT (or a FAIRY, you know what I mean), a very OH-sooo common plot and expect teenagers like us to dig it up. HELLO ! I, for sure, had made that mistake once, and will not ever again be doing so in the near future (NOT if I can help it).
---
So anyway, Blood Will Tell is a very original novel, which quiet rare during these days -- like a UNICORN ;))
There are no fucking muusshyy, gooeey, yuckyy romance going on. In fact, I love how there's a break on those girl-falls-head-over-heel-with-guy-because-he's-gorgeous kind of romance. The kind of love in here was pure and very fresh -- the love between Eden and Stellen (family), & Eden and Noah (friendship), although there's a major changes that'll happen in the second book.
Talking about Eden, OH-MY-GOSH! It's already confirmed that she is included on my TOP 10 KICK-ASS-HEROINE list! By the love of Zeus, she is PERFECT! Oh where could you get a girl who is not only funny, does not act GROSS when crush is ON SIGHT, knows how to defend herself, but most importantly, READ MANGA! She's a goddess I tell you! A GODDESS! Her battle between good and evil (HAHA.. I know, that line is SOOOO overrated these days) seems so real. I even got teary eyed when THAT FUCKING ROMANNY KILLED STELLAN! (WOOOPSS! Spoiler alert!). She's a real person.
Next is Noah. I love him and I HATE him.. I know it's not wholly his fault for hurting Eden but gosh! How I want to shove his face on piles of garbage, let his pretty face be covered in puke! Other than that, he is sooo sweet and kicks ass.
Stellan. MY HEART BLEEDS FOR YOU! I love how he's very close with his sister. If I had it MY WAY, I would twist the story, making them LOVERS (I KNOW, you guys must be thinking that I'm SICK). It's just that they're so good together. You could really feel the bond they had. How he truly cared for his sister and how Eden always think about her action as to not let his brother down.

That's all folks. CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK :)))
Blood Will Tell was honestly pretty interesting. In it, you will meet Eden. She's not your normal high school girl at all. Nope. The reason why is because her family is basically filled with monsters. Soul sucking monsters. Yet, Eden goes against her own father's wishes to become one of them.
I really liked getting to know Eden. She was a lot stronger than anyone really gave her credit for. Yeah, she did some horrible things to people - especially the bullies - but nobody's perfect. It also doesn't hurt that her best friend Noah was there to calm her down. At least for a while because lots of secrets came out towards the second half of the book.
There's a ton of betrayal and death. I had no idea how this was all going to end but I got a nice little cliffhanger. I'm also hoping that Noah and her can rekindle their friendship. I know it's going to take a while since his betrayal probably hurt the most but she needs to focus on herself right now.
In the end, definitely glad I took a chance on this book when it wasn't even on my radar to begin with.
Warning for those expecting a normal YA paranormal romance. This is very dark with a lot of extremely violent and disturbing scenes. The stuff of nightmares. Its still YA but I wouldnt recommend it for those too young, or those with week stomachs.
Eden is a supernatural being called Blessed. They have extremely dark impulses. Extremely dark. She has grown up to the sounds of screams coming from the basement of her family home her whole life. Now that she is starting to get the urges too she is fighting them, because unlike the rest of her family, she has a conscience because she is only half Blessed. Her best friend Noah knows what she is although Eden doesnt know that he knows. She thinks that if he knew he would hate her and leave. But he is trying to save her from it.
Its a very dark world that Samantha Young created, and it is fascinating. Eden's struggle is intense and you cant help sympathizing for her. She went through so much that she didnt deserve. But she was so strong. And I cant help sympathizing for Noah either. Poor guy was so torn. How do you come to terms with having feelings for someone like Eden? She has so much darkness in her. But Noah was amazing. He never gave up on her and he could always see the good in her, even when she was trying to eat him. I cant wait to see if a relationship develops between them. He must have strong feelings for her in order to overcome that. A romance was not explored in this book but I definitely see it happening.
I am also excited to learn more about their world and their history. They seem to have a lot of mythology behind them and I cant wait to learn more about where they came from. This ended a bit abruptly so I will be reading the second, Blood Past, right away. I highly recommend this for paranormal fans who love dark new worlds and a little mythology.
Better than I thought it was going to be. Eden is on the cusp of her Awakening, which means she will now consume souls to live. But she fights that half of herself. She may be a monster but she isn't a murderer. The story touches on some darker aspects, which I didn't expect, but it works since she is the anti-hero and her family is just...anti. I don't usually like YA cause I find them to be whiny, but I could really feel the hardships Eden was forced to endure. Loss, betrayal, heartache.... I'm definitely interested in reading the next in the series.
Samantha is an amazing world-builder, and this series is no exception. I love the unique storyline, and Eden is a girl I can relate to. Plus, Noah? Super-dreamy, but not perfect.... Just like I like them.
First, I finished this book with contented sigh.. It was just a very fulfilling book..
Blood Will Tell is about an eighteen year old girl, who is also a soul eater. Her hunger started to get intense in time for her Awakening Ceremony. During that ceremony she had to take a soul so she won't die, which is a choice Eden is struggling with. The story gets more complicated as secrets unfold.
I'm new to Samantha Young books and I was a bit skeptical about how good they were. But after I saw that most of her books were rated 4+ stars, I thought I should just check one out. And WOW! It hit me right in the face how I can't let the book out of my hand. Recently, I didn't have a good time connecting with some heavy myth fiction, Daughter of Smoke and Bone being the latest. However, this one was just very good. Especially mixed with the usual romance.
And what I have to say about that is that it's not really the "insta-love" or "twilight-y" one, but it's really nice and believable and not at all suffocating or forced.
Sometimes I really get fed up with stories using so much details. So, one of the bonus points I give this book is how brief and to the point it is. You won't bother with too much unnecessary details.
I'm really intrigued by this series and more about Young's other books. They are sure on my TBR list.
Blood Will Tell (Warriors of Ankh, Book #1) by Samantha Young
Genre: Young Adult | Dark Fantasy
Eden is a Soul Eater. While that hasn’t meant much to her in the past, she’s pretty sure any minute now she’s going to go all "Carrie" on her eleventh grade class.
Noah is an Ankh. As an immortal Warrior, his purpose in life is to hunt down and kill Soul Eaters.
Eden is Noah’s next assignment. Problem is… this is an assignment with a difference. Eden’s not your average, run of the mill, Soul Eater. Noah’s job? To test Eden for possible redemption.
It’s a risky business.
Especially if Noah awakens Eden’s inner monster.
It would be kind of hard for Eden to listen to the angel on her shoulder when the devil on the other is telling her, her new best friend is a lying, scheming, immortal enemy...
....betrayal is such a bitch.
So is Eden when you get on her bad side.
Eden is expected by her family to have an Awakening Ceremony soon to fully embrace her inner Soul Eater. As much as she cringes over her families cold-blooded/sadistic dark side, Eden is equally tempted to finally let her intense desires/cravings take over. Yet, when ancient secrets become known and the only two people in her chaotic lifestyle with whom she depends on, her brother Stellan and her best-friend Noah, are tragically torn away ... Eden agonizes over her monster tendencies and just where her controversial future will lead.
This story felt like a short read, but I am guessing it came off that way because the beginning of the tale really focused on Eden's uncomfortable home-life and her relationship with Noah and Stellan while the latter part of the story drew attention to Eden's tragic past and evolving future lifestyle -- thus creating almost two separate stories combined into one. From the beginning, both men (Noah and Stellan), in Eden's life, brought out the best in her in contrasting ways and thus she almost desperately clung to them for stability and comfort. While dealing with the normal teen angst of high school, Eden also had to combat with her families perversely hidden tactics and anguish over their all-consuming pressure for her to follow suit. Thus, Eden contains a lot of pent up anger and severe emotions that it is quite easy for the reader to understand her disgruntled behavior throughout must of the book.
Noah, on the other side, has a hidden side of himself that he conveniently keeps from Eden and when that fact is revealed ... Eden becomes even darker/distraught, acting out in some shockingly disturbing ways against herself and others. Thus, the story begins in a very arcanely gruesome way and really develops into a deeper unbalanced/troubling tale -- definitely geared toward the ADULT side of the "Young-Adult" genre. Yet, the book does end with a sense of hope on the horizon, really building up to Book #2 - Blood Past and that at least, somewhat, balances out the heavily bitter story of Eden's life.
Likes: Noah and Eden's subtle awareness of each other was charming and makes me excited to watch their progress throughout the series in regards to their relationship.
Dislikes: *** SPOILER *** I was a little sadden by the brothers murder due to the fact that it would have been interesting to see what his future would have been like after the attack and Eden's adjustment into a new way of life. Would he coup well & turn good in the long run? Would he convert fully to his dark side and rebel against Eden? So many possibilities I guess we will never learn about ...
This is a reread for me. I first read this about a year and a half ago and fell in love with it, well this read is no different. Edens family are soul eaters, they have to take a bit of soul from someone in order to live but her Mother and Father take it to the extreme. They don't just take a bit of soul, they kidnap and torture their victims and enjoy it. Eden hates them for it. She knows she is different because she cant bare the thought of hurting someone. She dreads the day when her Hunger Awakens. Noah is the new kid in town and is determined to make friends with Eden. She learns to trust him but unfortunately he Awakens the hunger in her. She has to fight her desire all the time around him. He ends up being her best friend but is he who she thinks he is?
This book deals with a lot of tough things. Edens father is basically evil and Eden struggles with the idea that she has to kill someone on her Awakening ceremony. She has to see everyday her parents enjoyment of hurting and killing people. I loved Edens character because she fights her nature to be good even when she has her family pressurizing her to do bad things. She is one tough cookie. Noah is handsome but caring and really makes Eden feel good about herself. He knows that deep down Eden is a good person. I've never read about soul eaters before and thoroughly enjoyed the story. Its so different and Samantha Young really brings the book alive. I was really rooting for Eden and found myself feeling for her when a certain thing happens to her. She has so much hurt inside and has to deal with a lot of bad things but she is so strong and brave that all I wanted to do was jump in the pages and hug her. Blood Will Tell had me crying and on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens to Eden. Noah and Eden are some of my favourite characters and the soul eater world is one of death, depravity and hatred but its a world I have no problem diving into again. I could gush some more but all I'm going to say is that if you haven't read this then you really should. Its amazing and so is the author.

I downloaded this book for free on Amazon (thank you again AH for posting that). I’m not going to break it down with Wins and Loses, because it’s not worth it.
This was a decent book for free. I would have been upset if I paid for it. The concept and characters were interesting. I actually really liked both. The plot moved well enough, but ended abruptly. I believe it ended somewhere around the second rising action (I came to that conclusion by reading the first chapter of the second book which is provided at the end of this one). It felt like the author cut it short so she could make a trilogy. If she had read my GR buddy Anila’s essay on trilogies, she would have known you can’t do that. It was a very casual read, which was a nice change for me. The langue didn’t bog it down at all, but I also knew what bands and movies the author liked because they were randomly named.
A light easy read that I would recommend if you got it for free. I wouldn’t pay for it unless you got the entire series in one book.
Wow!! Blood Will Tell was Amazing!! I'm a big fan of Samantha Young and I was anxiously awaiting the first book in this series and it did not disappoint. I fell in love with Eden right away she is Bad Ass and I can't wait to see what happens to her next. This book for me gets 5 Massive Stars it's so action packed and the story is Awesome. Also there's even an evil teenage girl named Maria in it Woop Woop and it's set in Michigan shout out to Detroit!! Can't wait till August:))
It was so much darker than I had expected and the storyline was amazing.
Eden is a fantastic character and I loved that she's not all cute and innocent. I like that she's abrasive and mean. Lol.
I felt so many different emotions whilst reading this book, sometimes I was a little creeped out and other times I was beyond shocked and horrified. This book kept my interest with every single page and I cannot wait to read the next in the series.
Blood Will Tell by Samantha Young :SPOILER-LESS REVIEW: Rated: 4 stars
I really enjoyed reading this book as the main character had spunk, sarcasm and more importantly strength, and i'm not talking just physically.
"...And you, you better run because i'm going to destroy you for what you've taken from me."
See what i'm talking about?
What would you do if you were born to be a predator? Would you fight your natural instincts or give in to your nature? Eden is a soul eater closing in on her awakening. Her family has convinced her that soon she will have to take a life in order to save her own. It’s a decision Eden doesn’t want to deal with even as her hunger for souls grows stronger every day. To complicate her impossible position, new guy in school Noah Valois’ determination to befriend her puts Eden in touch with a humanity she’s never known. Addicted to his company, his friendship and affection, she becomes more and more terrified that giving into her hunger will mean losing him forever… … But when she discovers that Noah is not what he seems, his betrayal forces her to face two choices. One will offer her revenge and the destruction of a boy she loved. The other may offer her a life of eternal redemption…
The book starts off with showing how Eden and her family are monsters, expect her brother loves her and she loves him as well, and he protects her as much as he can, although her parents don't love her. They're dis-attached from her. Then there's Noah, a really charming guy who had girls throw themselves at him when he first started school, but he chose Eden, not romantically, but as a best friend, who was a loner and freak of the school.
As I sit her writing this review, I have no idea why I gave this book 4 stars when it deserves 5. But that's how the book made me feel when I finished it so that's what it gets.
If that blurb make's you feel nervous, take that nervousness, rip it from you, push it into a jar and scream no at it.
And don't worry about Noah either, he's a douche. But-
I'm telling you, read this book because this is a type of book you will never regret reading. It's unique, awesome, and yes you might cry a little, but it's so worth it.
When I read Moon Spell by Samantha Young, I immediately became enthralled in her ability to create such a wellthought out world with characters that are easy to connect to and, of course, her great writing. So, I decided that I’d read the first book in another of her series, Blood Will Tell, and let me tell you, it was awesome.
Blood Will Tell is spilling over with mythology that derives its source from the Egyptian myths, something you don’t read about often in YA. I loved the mythology about the Blessed and the Warriors of Neith and Ankh. Oh, did I mention the heart-pounding action yet? No? Well, there is a ton of that!
Samantha Young has a great writing style, and I have yet to be disappointed by one of her books. Of course, I’ve only read two, but I enjoyed them both so very much! I cannot wait to dive into the rest of her books, and am already anticipating her upcoming releases. If you’re looking for a fantastic paranormal YA author, look no further than Samantha Young.
Eden, the main character of Blood Will Tell is a total bitch. No really, she knows it and isn’t ashamed. But behind the façade, she’s actually a really connectable character that has troubles like everyone else. Of course, not everyone is betrothed to their cousin, or has to take human souls to survive. The other characters in Blood Will Tell were all believable as well, and I especially liked Noah. I enjoyed that he isn’t who Eden thinks he is, and I liked reading about his devious acts behind the scenes.
Blood Will Tell is another fantastic book from Samantha Young. I guess I can officially call myself a fan of hers, since I haven’t read a book of hers I haven’t liked. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next books in the Warriors of Ankh series!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! Totally amazing and I could NOT put it down! Blood Will Tell is a book that grabs your attention from the first page and keeps pulling you in all the way til the very end. There was never a dull moment and all I can think about is that I need to finish this and get started on book 2.
The world that Samantha Young has introduced us to here is so unique and refreshing when the majority of the time I reading about vamps and shifters. But, the world of Ankh warriors and Soul-eaters and the legend behind how they came to be is phenomenal and of course...GENIUS!!
Blood Will Tell allows us a glimpse in to the world of Eden. Eden is a 17 year old girl that is struggling with who she is and it shows in every area of her life. The one person that she has relied on all her life is her brother, Stellan, and I have to say, I wish he was my brother. The relationship that Eden and Stellan have is so endearing and I will end it there so I don't give anything away. The other major relationship in Eden's life is her best friend Noah. He offers so much to Eden and gives her so much strength that again, you envy what she has. But, this book is not all about happy good times. Blood Will Tell takes you on a roller-coaster of emotions. There are surprising twists and heartache and when you come to the end... you let out a deep breath not knowing how long you were really holding it because this book is just that FABULOUS!! I highly recommend this book!
I decided to give this a try for a number of reasons.
One being I loved On Dublin Street and two being I love YA supernatural stories, so I thought this has to be win win.
And I wasn't far wrong.
I liked the concept of the girl who has supernatural powers technically being the "bad guy".
This really is a set up for things to come and I have a feeling that a lot of the characters we have met even briefly are going to be coming back to bite our main characters in the ass.
I will definitely be continuing on this series. I have to say I am very excited that Samantha Young has so much already published and I may have found a new favorite author :) Happy days!
Ankhlar yüzyıllardır Ruh Yiyiciler'i öldüren bir soy.
4 stars -- WOW. This one starts off with a really dark bang in the prologue. I found myself all kinds of intrigued by a heroine who lives with the evil people, and is aware of the evil things that are done in her home everyday. It just felt very unique to me. And you could really feel all the struggles that Eden was going through, growing up how she did but not having the same overwhelming urges that the rest of her family had. There was a lot of internal struggling going on in Eden's mind too, particularly after the "hunger" was awoken. I couldn't imagine what that must have been like to live with.
I found the relationship with her brother to be epically intriguing. They had such a strange relationship given their upbringing. And seeing Stratton have those dark urges, but try to quell them because of his love for his sister? I just couldn't figure out what to think. I mean, I actually really liked him and the way he protected Eden, so it made the whole thing so much more shades of gray if that makes any sense. I mean, he's a guy who is genuinely tempted by "the dark side", and yet because of how he feels for Eden, it actually gives him some sense of guilt...like he wants to be better for her. It kind of broke my heart and got to me in a way I wasn't expecting.
On the other side of things we have Noah, part of the "good side", and yet I wasn't always that impressed with him. As I'm beginning to notice in Ms. Young's paranormal series, there really isn't a strong romance aspect...it's really more about the building of the paranormal world and the conflict that arises in each. Personal preference? I miss the romance. I'm used to reading these series and having a hero to root for and make into a book boyfriend, and we didn't really get that in Noah. I mean, he has a girlfriend for part of it, and is conflicted on his feelings for Eden and whether he's disgusted by her (even though he's spent 6 months getting to know her). So that part was kind of disappointing. I wanted more from Noah I guess.
The paranormal world is intriguing though -- very different, though it still had that infodump feel to it as I've experienced in her other series. And I enjoyed the backstory of her birth (even if it was seriously disturbing), and I'm liking Cyrus so far. We really didn't get to see much of the Ankh side, so I'm hoping the next books give us a better glimpse of them.
I was really surprised by some of the twists that came during her awakening -- I can honestly say I didn't see some of that coming, and so I'm curious who the big bad is going to be, and I'm saddened for the loss of one of the characters.
The strength of this book (and series) so far is definitely in Eden, and all the conflict she experiences (mostly internal). I'm looking forward to seeing where this one goes...
After reading Tales of Lunarmorte series and On the Dublin Street, I was ready for more and I wasn't at all disappointed. This book rocked like any other book of hers and I loved it. I love the cover of this book.
In this Eden or Paradise is a soul eater who has to kill somebody to become a full soul eater and she is reluctant to do it. She has a humanity which her family lacks. She is terrified by what she has to do to survive. She feels the need, the hunger for soul but with so much will power she stops it, she though tries to take a soul as she is a soul eater and her mind is telling her to do so but she doesn't ..something or the other stops her from doing it. She meets Noah who awakens her hunger with a bare touch of his hand and they become fast friends. Now she discovers more of her history,Of who Noah is, who Neith and Ankh is. About her past and problems and people she trusted
I loved, loved Eden . Really I just love strong character. She is brave, stubborn, has a great will power and is ready to kick some ass and isn't afraid to face anything. she is a bully for all bullies and saves the people who are weak and loves her brother Stellen a lot. I love her humanity the most. Being what she is aka soul eater still she controls it,fights it, I have ever see a character so strong to resist temptation. I wouldn't have blamed her even if she took souls because she was what she was. but still her heart her humanity made her stop.
Noah was sweet ,sexy and very much bound with duty. He is an Ankh and tries to win Eden's trust. This guy even if he betrayed Eden still was a nice guy who felt that attachment to the girl . Hope Eden forgive him soon. I don't blame Eden for being angry with him. I would have felt the same. It was so emotional. I will tell you never piss off this Lady Eden.
At first I thought how this story began without knowing how they both met and I thought It would be an ok book but Yet The author proved me wrong and this story became interesting as hell. It will keep you hooked with the words, secrets and surprises. You gonna love this book for sure.
I tried to like it. I really did. But it's another YA trilogy where the heroine bemoans her fate, people spend more time on going shopping and walking around town than like, I don't know, doing something useful like saving souls, and everyone's morality is determined on whether or not they worship the heroine on first sight.
Eden is verbally aggressive and just plain rude to people around her, often including those that are helping her. It's not smart, it's not spicy, it's nod bad-ass, it's just plain bad manners and annoying. She is entirely too happy to trade in her old family with a new one that admires her better. She has the most twisted shallow morals you could ever imagine. She never does anything useful other than being there to be cherished and admired. Need I go on? Also, there is a long list of secondary characters who are separated into 2 neat categories. Those that admire Eden, aka the good guys, and those that find her annoying and insignificant (like I do), who invariably turn out to be evil in some way or another. Because God forbid that someone might be a bit more complex than that.
I can stand here griping all day about the same old problems that plaque most YA books nowadays, however there is one disturbing feature that I discovered in these particular books and which I found especially disturbing. And that is the extreme elitism among the good guys. The Ankh warriors treat the Neith like crap most of the time, despite the fact that they are their progenitors and co-combatants in their common struggle. Having the male protagonist treat mortal women like disposable napkins and find them annoying afterwards, because what do you know, they're just mortal females, gives me an eye-twitch. Attempting to compound that with the statement that he doesn't need to feel bad about it either, because hey, they are beneath his attention, put me off the rest of the story indefinitely.
