True Hero?

Rate this book
As the most popular superhero in the world, Stella Stargirl has it all; fame, fortune, legions of adoring fans, a place on the world's best superhero team and even a number 1 hit single to her name. Stella, however, has a secret that even she doesn't know. She is a fraud. An average-powered hero who stood on the shoulders of giants and got all the glory whilst her more powerful teammates did all the work. When a new supervillain appears on the scene, one who manages to de-power the world's heroes, Stella decides it is time to put aside her self-doubts and show the world that fraud or not, she can be a true hero.

True Hero? is a unique story about super heroes. Yes, they are just like those classic comic book heroes, but they have different names and some have unusual powers. There is Bruce the Barbarian, who has the power of super strength. Other heroes have powers like super speed, flight, the ability to knock someone out by touching them, and the ability to turn their body into water. Jack Hessey has an awesome imagination!

Stella Stargirl is the world’s most famous super hero. She has the flashy power of cosmic star blasts and everyone think she is the greatest. Not only is she rich, but so are her managers. They know the truth; that Stella isn’t really all that powerful, but they are out to make money. It made me think of overrated Hollywood stars and their managers.

Stella is put to the test when Rat, a super hero turned bad guy, comes on the scene. I loved reading about Stella’s reaction and how she dug deep to find her inner strength. Instead of looking at her own popularity, Stella realizes what it really means to be a hero. There is a wonderful lesson to be learned.

COVER COMMENTS

Stella Stargirl’s outfit looks just as it is described in the book. I personally wish it had a little more sparkle, but that’s just me being girlie. I love the big city buildings in the background and the night scene.

I enjoyed True Hero? It's a fun, fast-paced novel with a great cast of interesting heroes and some fun supervillain's to oppose them. The storyline is interesting, although similar stories have been done before in comics it still managed to feel fresh and entertaining. Highly recommended.

This is a great book.

Stella Stargirl is a super heroine, and a popular one at that. She is a celebrity, and the treated like a movie star. Her book is coming out, she has her own range of toys, she is super rich.

But her whole life is a lie. All the villains she defeated were acting. The group she works for is actually a terrorist group, aligned with the government, that has been secretly locking people up, and the some of the villains she fought were actually good people. Not only that, our heroine is actually a weak heroine, and she was made to look powerful because of her glamourous looks, so the media would not look too deep into the government's affairs.

The book starts with all the heroes being de-powered. Stella must now not only find who did it, but prove she is a real hero, and not just a shallow media attraction.

The book ends with the hint of a sequel, but sadly it seems the author has thrown in the towel. Sad, as I would liked to have read more.

-I got this book for free from Goodreads First Reads-

This was a juvenile book full of terrible twists, no foreshadowing whatsoever, and clunky character development. I hope the atrocious grammar and spelling mistakes have been fixed when this got published for real.. I can't believe you can call yourself a writer when you have such limited vocabulary and make the most elementary grammar mistakes. But I guess that's forgivable. The plot is not, though. Not much is connected together and the central theme (can Stella - super hero revealed to be nothing but a government publicity stunt - find it in her to be a true hero anyway?) is childish and repeated throughout the book so much that I was headdesking every 5 pages.

Good superhero action though, perhaps this would have made a better comic book (still pretty forgettable)?

This is an entertaining book for comic book fans. Although it does have its flaws, in the end, I found that I could overlook those.

Pros:
.Good attempt at telling a superhero story.
.Takes you back to the days when comics and superheros occupied a good part of your life!

Cons:
.The characters, including the main hero are a bit one-dimensional.
.Slightly amateurish style of writing.

This is a fun read.
Okay, all positive stuff.
I really enjoyed the idea.
The chapter separation is interesting and fun.
Stella is just what you would imagine from a hero in the lime-light.
Check this out, just for the fun of it.

Not full of pith..just fun.
