Without getting into spoilers it's a little unclear just how much Mars knew at this point, but I think they at least knew enough to know that this information could cause a major shift in the balance of power in the solar system for whomever controlled the information.(less)

I was in the same boat - saw the series first.

The first season only takes you to half way (virtually exactly) in Leviathan Wakes. It certainly doesn't spoil the book, in my view. There are enough subtle differences to keep it interesting, plus the characters, as you would expect, are better drawn in the book.

I quite enjoyed the series, but absolutely loved the book.(less)

That said, I feel this series is one of the few where the book and tv series make each other better. I started watching the tv series, loved it so much I began the book around episode four, and just kept watching. Then watched it again after I finished the books. And again. So, long story short, I think you'll enjoy it still either way.(less)
