December 11 - Mini Advent Calendar

December 11 - Miniature Advent Calendar

Welcome to Advent Season 2024!!  Advent is the season that begins the celebration of Jesus' coming to earth.  The word "Advent" is derived from the Latin word "adventus" which means "coming".  During Advent, Christians celebrate the birth of the Messiah Jesus but it is also a time to prepare for the second coming of Christ.

Every year I feature a different Advent calendar and I've been doing this since 2016.  This year, I am actually featuring two different calendars.  I originally had planned on only showcasing one but then my dearest Aunt gave me a mini Advent Calendar in the form of a card!!!!  It's so cute - I couldn't resist featuring this one also. (I will post the Mini Advent Calendar at midnight each evening and then the second one at noon each day until Christmas Eve)
(click HERE to view Day#9 of the "Jesus is the Lighthouse" Advent Calendar)

Now, everything on this card does not focus on the birth of Jesus Christ but I have transformed it to be completely Christian by including a Bible verse each day - I'm calling it:
"The Importance of Small Things"

In the picture below I placed a nickle on the card/calendar so that you will be able to gauge the actual smallness of the card:

Today is December 11th and I am opening Box#11

Inside we find:

A few small birds

Recently we studied about Noah & the Ark (and the Flood) - remember that it was a small animal (a dove) who was able to show Noah that the waters were receding when the dove brought back an olive leaf.

Learning From History #6 - THE QUEEN WAS WORTH TRILLIONS

LearningFromHistory6(1)

Learning From History #6 - THE QUEEN WAS WORTH TRILLIONS

Over the past few years I have been very concerned that the world is repeating history.  I know that many parts of the history that we are teaching our younger generation has been watered down and even outright twisted into a falsehood. This "history tweaking" is happening just because the truth might "offend" someone.  I know for a fact that this history twisting has happened because many of my family members lived through and remember World War II.

In this series we are going to study the difficult parts of history that might have recently, intentionally or unintentionally been overlooked.

Since the queen of England recently passed away, I thought it important to learn the truth about her wealth.  Today, we are learning that the queen was worth 17 trillion!!!  That is more than enough money to END world poverty.  Yet, she is portrayed as such a caring and compassionate monarch - How can a loving person hoard such wealth while watching her country men & women suffer??

(The Scripture passage below occurred when the Apostles were on trial for speaking about Jesus Christ):

And the high priest asked them, saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!”
But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men.
Acts 5:27-29

Last time we learned about the "Victory Garden" (click HERE to view that post).

TO BE VERY CLEAR - I am NOT and NEVER will support or encourage any kind of violence nor any kind of crime.  I am simply highlighting these truths to AVOID  REPEATING HISTORY.

We will be looking at queen Elizabeth the 2nd's carriage, investments, property, other priceless items, and from where much of her inherited money came.

We will begin with her carriage:

LearningFromHistory6B

Firstly, we must learn that the queen had "rules for thee but not for me":

LearningFromHistory6D

The queen's investments:
    LearningFromHistory6C

    Property:

I tried to research death duties (a.k.a. Inheritance Tax) and I learned that in the U.K., any estate over 325,000 pounds is required to pay about 40% taxes on the value of that estate!!.  That means a 325,000 pound estate would owe 130,000 in taxes!!!  That's outrageous!  No wonder the queen was worth trillions - robbing from her subjects.

    LearningFromHistory6E

    Other priceless items:

    LearningFromHistory6F

From where did much of her inheritance come?

The queen Victoria truth below is probably going to be just as difficult to fathom as all of these truths about queen Elizabeth II.

    LearningFromHistory6G

In my opinion, "the powers that be" have omitted these truths from our education so that their wealth can continue indefinitely - NOT SO!!  God wins!

      Chipmunk Window Feeder

      Chipmunk Window Feeder

We bought a window hummingbird feeder and we were so excited to be able to watch them come to the window.  Well, I think that the hummingbirds were probably afraid to fly under the porch overhang and the feeder never once was used.  That's why my husband created a feeding obstacle course for our neighborhood chipmunks.  You will see by the following pictures that my cat enjoys the show as much as we do.  (I know - my garden produce will suffer because we have made this a chipmunk friendly yard).

NOTE about our window.  Please excuse the disgusting grime of our windows - they are original from the 1960's - the house has settled and unfortunately we are no longer able to take the windows apart to clean between window panes (we need new windows).

      ENJOY the following pictures!

Friskie the Cat Organizes the Pots & Pans Cupboard

Ask many of you know, my Calico cat passed away last year (click HERE to read post about Pounce).

I now have a rescue cat that we suspect is a Bengal (or at least partially Bengal) - she is very curious, energetic and nosey - checkout what she's been up to lately.

The Toledo Zoo - Feature #14 & Name That PLANT

The Toledo Zoo - Feature #14 & Name That PLANT

The Toledo Zoo in Toledo, Ohio has been voted one of the top 10 Zoos in the country!  I have lived in this area for 20 years and this past September 2015 is the first time that I have ever visited this special place.  Now I am asking myself: "Why did it take me so long?".

I had the pleasure of visiting the zoo with my sister & brother-in-law and my precious twin nieces.  It was such a blessing to experience this amazing zoo with my 10 year old nieces.

Each week I will feature one animal and one plant (asking for your help in identifying some of the plants) - ENJOY!

      Feature #14 - PARAKEETS

Parakeets are part of the Parrot family.  They are very playful, intelligent and social.  Parakeets are native all over the world and each region has it's own species.  Parakeets live between 5 and 20 years (depending on the species).  They make great pets.  The Parakeet exhibit at the Toledo Zoo was interactive - it was an amazing experience as you can see by the pictures below.

I went to the zoo to look at animals but found myself mostly taking pictures of plants.
Many of the plants around the zoo exhibits and buildings I had never seen before (and unfortunately they were not labeled), so I decided to include a section asking for your help.  The featured plant today is fairly common but beautiful.

Please leave your answer in the comment section below & have fun!
      Identify the plant below:
