This crater (see NS2673 : Bomb crater near Loch Thom for a view of it from the other side) is marked on large-scale mapping, as is another one about 500 metres to the ESE: NS2673 : Bomb crater near Loch Thom. Both are filled with water.
Almost exactly midway between them, but not marked on OS maps, is another crater, much more irregular in shape, and without water: NS2673 : Bomb crater near Loch Thom.
Amongst other craters in the same general area is one at NS26697358, about 780 metres NE/ENE of the one shown in the present picture: NS2673 : Bomb crater near Old Largs Road.

The Greenock Blitz was in May 1941: NS2676 : Memorial for those killed in the Greenock air raids. Some of the bomb craters on the moors above the town may be the result of decoy fires that were deployed here during the Second World War; see Link(at Secret Scotland) for details. The control bunker for one of those decoy sites (NS2773 : Whitelees Moor - Bombing Decoy Control Bunker) can be seen at NS27567342; there were other decoys on these moors.
