Torre Station
Torre Station
On the line from Newton Abbot to Torquay. The South Devon Railway was a broad gauge line and opened in 1848. This was then the terminus and known as Torquay but when the line was extended in 1859 to near Torquay seafront, this station was renamed Torre. It was converted to standard gauge in 1892. The disused signal box dates from 1921 and the buildings on the left hand platform (London bound) were demolished in the 1960s and replaced by the simple shelter. On the right are two generations of station building that are now in other use. The station is unmanned.

The line was to be an atmospheric railway and a pumping engine house still exists to the north but was never commissioned and the line was always locomotive worked.
