SU3590 : New housing under construction, Challow Station - the last few years of this station are documented by Adrian Vaughan in his autobiographical books 'Signalman's Morning' and Signalman's Twilight'. As a schoolboy he visited the station and signal box until he joined the army, and returned to work at Challow as a porter and eventually as one of the regular signalmen. The signal box was closed on May 30th 1965 when multiple aspect signalling was introduced between Uffington to the west and Didcot to the east.
