NT3535 : Forest harvester

Forest harvester
Forest harvester
The harvesting machine is an excavator-type vehicle with a specialised machine head that grips and cuts the tree to be felled, turns it horizontal and cuts the trunk into required lengths. One of a pair of toothed drums can be seen that moves the trunk sideways to be cut by a chain saw on the right-hand side in this view. The whole process takes less than 30 seconds - the video clip at LinkExternal link shows a harvester in use.

Note the warning 'Keep back 150m / 500ft' on the jib! Fortunately I came here at weekend when the contractors were not working, otherwise access would not have been possible.
