About this ebook

All I wanted was solitude in the remote mountains of Montana.

Then I pulled a curvy beauty from a snowdrift, and she got me rethinking everything.

I'm trying to rebuild my life after doing time in prison.

With its icy peaks and reputation as a hermit's paradise, Frozen Heights seems like the best place to start.

Then a quirky little library support tech shows up with the comic books I borrowed.

She's perfect in every way, melting the walls I've built around me with her sweet, freckled face.

As we wait out the storm in my cabin, all I can think about is making her mine.

But could this snow angel ever truly love an ex-con?

Claimed by the Burly Ex-Con is a short, steamy, instalove featuring a curvy tech geek who's obsessed with the Marvel fandom and a DC loving ex-con with a hero's heart.

    CHAPTER 1

    PENNY

Y ou’re officially crazy, JJ says, placing the stack of comic books on my desk.

I grab a couple of the comics in their plastic protective sleeves and lean back in my chair, putting my feet up while being careful to avoid my bobblehead Marvel figurines.

Why? Because I want to deliver these in person? I’ve done it before. I thumb through the rare DC titles. They’re editions from the ‘70s that I haven’t seen before. I’m not a huge fan of the DC universe myself, but I can admire anyone who has this kind of dedication to seek out the older stuff.

Yes, Penny, but not to strangers. JJ and I both started as volunteers for the Deepwood Mountain Library when we were in high school. JJ went full-time after she graduated and became a library assistant. I got a degree in IT and was able to come back here and snag a job as a support technician. I mostly work with our e-systems but have also spearheaded some programming for our emerging fandom hub.

And especially not strangers up in Frozen Heights, she adds.

    So?

"So it’s way up in the mountains, a total storm magnet, and a lot of the residents there are…you knowkinda rough around the edges." She perches on the corner of my desk and fiddles with the buttons on her cardigan. JJ reminds me of a modern-day Snow White, if Snow White had pink streaks in her shiny black hair. Super innocent, and a little protective of me besides. But as my roommate and best friend, I guess she’s allowed.

We’ve all heard the stories about Frozen Heights. How it’s filled with shady individuals looking to disappear for…whatever reason.

But who am I to judge?

Where’s your sense of adventure? I laugh, glancing up at my Avengers poster.

She huffs and crosses her arms over her chest.

Come on, JJ—I bet most people up there are just looking for some peace and quiet. I wouldn’t believe all the rumors. Large, fluffy snowflakes float to the ground outside our office window. And I mean, yeah, it’s snowing, but not nearly enough to make a fuss about. I wave off her worries dismissively.

That’s because it’s still early, she frets. "The real storm won’t hit until later this evening, and it’s supposed to be a doozy! I’m sure Deepwood will be completely covered, and it will be even worse up there. You think you can just bounce into Frozen Heights and back again? She shakes her head. It’s not just the weather, either: there are no streetlights up there, and the roads are narrow and icy. You’ll be putting yourself in real danger."

I swing my feet off the desk and lean forward. JJ, you know me. I’m always safer than safe. Since the mail’s already been collected, these won’t get to Mr. Brooks until late Monday at the earliest. If a storm’s coming, wouldn’t it be awesome for him to be able to enjoy these over a snowed-in weekend?

She rolls her hazel eyes. He won’t need the comics for entertainment if he has you tied up in the basement.

JJ! I sputter. "And you say I have a wild imagination?"

Well… No one can say you don’t go above and beyond for our readers.

I flash her a smile and stand up, removing my favorite blue and green flannel from around my waist. I pull it over my Captain Marvel T-shirt before grabbing my coat and beanie from the rack nearby. Paired with my trusty fleece-lined black jeans and combat boots, I’m ready. Mrs. Holloway retired a few months ago, and we sure do miss her, but oh man, the dress code is much more chill now. Insert happy dance here.

I really can’t change your mind? she asks.

Nope. The snow isn’t that bad, and I’m sure Mr. Brooks is just a harmless comic book enthusiast.

    Or a total weirdo.

I lick my lips. "In that case, he
