About this ebook

An old handyman gets creepy when Jenny's husband, Dalton, leaves the house. In a bid to disarm his vulgarity Jenny calls his bluff and is shocked when he shows her what he's been bragging about.
It's huge. And she can't look away.
She sends him packing before he has a chance to replace all of the knobs on their doors.
But what he's revealed leaves it's mark on her mind. It also has an effect on her marital intimacy with Dalton that evening. So much so that when Richard returns the next day she doesn't immediately turn him away. And when he asks if she wants another glance she doesn't immediately say no...

This is Book 1 of a three-book series.

    Chapter One

Dalton finished his last sip of coffee and picked up his briefcase as he stood up from the table.

Jenny was loading the dishwasher and he cast a long glance at her big, round ass before walking over to where she was standing. She hadn’t been in the mood lately, which had left him feeling a little starved.

He waited until she stood up, then put a hand on the small of her back. I guess I’ll be on my way, he said, leaning in to kiss her cheek. Maybe we can have some quiet time this evening after dinner?

She flashed a shy smile and blushed at the euphemism. Of course, she replied.

He gazed into her eyes, wondering why her response didn’t sound genuine. Is everything alright? he asked. You’ve been kind of in your own head lately.

It was true, she had been aloof. Emotionally unavailable, his therapist called it. He’d talked to Micheal about her behaviour but Micheal’s advice had been to give her space and time.

They’d been trying for months now and the longer she went without getting pregnant, the sadder and more introverted she seemed to get. He’d asked her to go see her therapist but she’d resisted.

Everything’s fine, she replied. I mean, I guess you know what’s on my mind. But I’m managing it. I’m trying not to let it bother me much.

He put a hand on her arm and gave it a rub. Dr. Shapiro said it’s perfectly normal for it to take this long, remember? Everyone makes it seem like the moment you have sex without protection you get pregnant. In fact it’s nothing like that, he reassured her.

Of course I remember. I can’t help it that I’m thinking about it. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, she said.

No, but you’re worrying yourself for no good reason. Maybe that’s having an effect on... He bit his tongue and wished he hadn’t started that last part.

Her brow furrowed as she looked into his eyes. "Well, you know, it is stressing me out. Maybe it is having an effect. I start thinking about it when we try to get intimate. It makes it hard to get in the mood," she said.

He glanced at his watch and sighed. I’ve got to go to work or I’ll be late. If you want we can talk more about this tonight?

She rubbed her cheek with a finger. I don’t want to talk more about it at all, she said, sounding sullen. I just want us to be able to start a family, Dalton. It’s all I have.

Now don’t say that, he countered.

But it’s true, isn’t it? she said. All I have is keeping this giant house clean and waiting for you to come home at night. I’m beginning to think I should have stayed on at the agency until we knew whether this was going to happen or not. I guess I could always go back, she muttered.

A knot formed in his stomach. Don’t talk like that, please, he said.

Easy for you to say, she replied. You’ve got something to do all day besides laundry and vacuuming!

He let out a sigh. They’d both agreed to a more traditional life. One where Jenny stayed home, took care of the house and raised the family Dalton knew they were going to have. She was just having second thoughts because it was taking longer than they’d hoped it would. He made a mental note to give her a little extra attention that evening. I love you, Jenny, he said, kissing her cheek again. We’ll work this out. I promise.

He turned and walked out of the spacious kitchen into the wide hallway. The doorbell rang a moment before he reached the door. He undid the deadbolt and pulled it open.

The older man standing on their front porch wore a tattered ball cap and a faded denim jacket. He carried an old tool bag and one corner of his shirt hung out of his jeans, untucked. Hey, boss, he said, reaching up and tipping the bill of his ball cap.

Can I help you? Dalton asked. He heard Jenny step up behind him.

Don’t remember me? the old man asked. It’s Dick from Century Home Revival. You asked me to come around and do your knobs.

Dalton pressed a hand to his head. Richard. Yes, of course. I’m so sorry. My mind was somewhere else. Please, come in. You remember my wife, Jenny? he said, waving a hand towards her.

He remembered the old man and his charming store now. They’d gone in to see about getting the doorknob hardware replaced in their century home. Richard, who insisted on calling himself ‘Dick’ for some bizarre reason, had been very helpful. He’d even offered to send his strapping young son, a handsome man in his twenties, to install the knobs they’d purchased.

Dalton hadn’t much liked the idea of Jenny at home, alone, with the young handyman stud and had asked that Dick do the work himself. He wasn’t normally the jealous type. But when you had a wife as attractive as Jenny you really couldn’t be too careful.

He stepped aside and let Dick into the house, then glanced at his watch again. My gosh. I’m sorry, Richard. I really need to run. Jenny will certainly show you around and get you anything you might need. Thanks again for coming.

He clapped the old guy on the back and jogged out the door and down the drive to his Porsche.

    ***

Jenny watched Dalton get into his car and start the engine. He waved at her through the windshield as he backed out of the driveway and she waved back. As he pulled onto the road and sped off, she closed the door and turned towards Dick, smiling.

The way he smiled back at her made her skin crawl. He was a dirty, musty old man. Probably in his sixties. Dalton hadn’t noticed him ogling her the whole time they were in the shop. He’d insisted Dick, himself, come to do the work.

Probably because his son was a ripped and smoking hot young stud. He also hadn’t noticed the young man was very clearly gay. Dalton could be funny that way.

Now she had to spend half the day, or however long it took, with this old creep while he installed their new door knobs.

You want to show me the knobs? Dick asked, his smile curling into a crooked grin.

She ignored the innuendo and stepped around him to show him to the kitchen door. This one here. Then there’s the door to the living room and all four bedrooms and the bathroom upstairs, she said. Can I get you a coffee or something?

No ma’am, Dick said, following her to the kitchen door.

She could feel his eyes on her the whole time.

He set his bag of tools down next to the door and leaned against the frame, still smiling at her. You’re a pretty little thing, aren’t ya? he asked.

She pursed her lips. It was clear she was going to have to set some boundaries with this guy. He was from a different generation and obviously thought he could get away with that sort of talk. Listen, Dick, she began. I’ve got your number and if you keep talking to me like that I’m going to tell my husband about it when he gets home tonight. You might like to know he’s a lawyer, she explained.

Dick just smirked and chuckled. That’s some dumb lawyer leaving his wife at home alone with an old pervert, he said.

Her eyes widened. She couldn’t believe how bold he was being. I’m serious. I’m not joking. I won’t be spoken to like that, she said.

Sure thing, missy. Whatever you say, he said, tipping his ball cap. "But if you find yourself in the mood to see a real knob I’ll show you why they call me Dick."

    She
