Adventures in Penmanship - Aanoyah D Sarmah
PREFACE
I’ve always had a knack for words. It felt like a lightbulb moment when I got the idea – why not turn those random internet quotes into poems? So, I dove in, headfirst into the world of rhyme and rhythm. It was a way to process the messy tangle of teenage emotions, the stuff too raw to say out loud. Writing became my secret language, a medium where I could be honest without any fear of judgment. I poured my heart out into these poems, using words as a lifeline to navigate the stormy seas of adolescence. It was a cathartic process, like finding a hidden room in the midst of chaos where I could be utterly myself. I’ve always believed that the most honest art comes from the deepest corners of the soul, and I hope these poems resonate with anyone who's ever felt lost or misunderstood. Maybe, just maybe, these words can offer a sense of companionship to those who feel like they’re navigating life's challenges alone. Because in the end, sharing our vulnerabilities is what connects us all.
THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS
The 7 Deadly Sins- Envy
In the depths of our souls, a sin does reside,
Envy, the beast that cannot be denied.
Like poison, it seeps into our veins,
Filling our hearts with jealous pains.
With eyes full of envy, we look upon others,
Wishing we had what they possess, including their lovers.
Their success, their fame, their fortune so grand,
We crave what they have, unable to withstand.
Envious whispers poison our thoughts,
As we compare ourselves and all that we’ve brought.
Our self-worth diminishes, consumed by green,
As envy's grip tightens, a wicked scene.
It consumes us wholly, this insidious desire,
For what we don’t have, fuels a burning fire.
We yearn for more, discontent with our own,
In this never-ending cycle, our souls are overthrown.
We covet their beauty, their talents, their grace,
Envy twists our minds, leaving no trace.
It festers within, staining our soul,
Until envy's bitter fruit takes its toll.
The 7 Deadly Sins- Gluttony
In a realm where darkness thrives,
There lies a sin that truly connives,
Gluttony, the insatiable thirst,
Feeds on desires, though it's accursed.
With a voracious appetite, it devours,
Both the meagre and the dainty flowers,
Indulging in excess, without any halt,
Gluttony consumes, leaving hearts to fault.
With each bite, it craves for more,
Taking pleasures to the very core,
Feasting recklessly with insidious glee,
Gluttony indulges, imprisoning the free.
It craves for food, to fill the void,
But the emptiness can never be destroyed,
Swallowing ambition, like a bottomless pit,
Gluttony suffocates dreams bit by bit.
Obscenely indulging in all of life's pleasures,
It smothers the soul, igniting no treasures,
For gluttony knows no satiation,
Only a never-ending need for sensation.
Through feasts of grandeur and endless cheer,
It chips away at virtue, fostering fear,
As gluttony grows, consuming the weak,
Desire itself becomes what's
