    About the Author

To my son, Trevor, and my grandchildren Trevor Junior and Lane,

this is my prayer for you.

May you reach the purpose for which you were created.

May you have courage above your peers.

May you have more passion for the things of God than others think is necessary.

May you dream more than others think is practical.

May you expect more than others think is possible

May you choose wisely without earthly bias.

May you see vistas that others don't even know exist.

May you see God in every petal on every flower and in every blade of grass,

for each of them is designed by his hand.

May you bless your children and may they become giants in the faith under the mighty hand of God

You won't fail; you were made by God to be here

for such a time as this.

    The Pain

Why do they hurt me? Don't they see I'm lying here?

With a heart in pieces on this cold hard floor.

Why do they seem to be blind and not see

That the girl they are beating on isn't really me.

I'm tucked in here, locked up with this pain.

I'm here inside this heart that you just stomped on again.

This kind of pain don't bruise or cut or bleed.

Hide me, Lord, help me see myself the way You see me.

    God Wants You to Know

If you are here, it's because I have a plan. I love you.

I don't care what you have done. I love you.

I don't care what they said or what they are saying.

The only opinion that matters is mine, and I love you.

You are not the names they gave you.

You wear my Son Jesus's name, and there is all the power you need in that name.

I am God, the creator of all things, and I love you.

    Introduction

As I prepared to write this book, I looked up the abortion statistics available, which covered 1973–2020. The total number of abortions was 42,521,000. I contributed to that number and know the effect this had on me. Carrying a refrigerator of guilt and shame and the weight of the secret that I couldn't tell anyone, I believe there are others just like me.

I know there are women out there that feel the same way I did—holding that secret, the taboo decision that was made in your life, with no one to talk about the onslaught of torment that follows. I felt there was no way I could open up to anyone about what happened.

Going to church to find a place of sanity usually ended up with the pastor telling the congregation that abortion is murder, which is the truth. Abortion made me a murderer. Even worse, I had more than one, which, in my mind, surely made me unworthy of anything good God had to offer me.

I needed someone to tell me that no matter how many times, Jesus's blood could cover it. I desperately needed someone to tell me that God could still love me. Even with all the wreckage of my life strewn everywhere, God could use what was left of me. God would create all things new, starting on the inside of me.

I want you to know that God loves you right where you stand. Bruised, bloodied by life, dirty and stinky, He loves you.

Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you: A prophet to the nations—that's what I had in mind for you. (Jeremiah 1:5 MSG)

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. (Psalm 34:18)

I will freely receive and believe that Jesus came, lived a sinless life, and died a criminal's death to pay the price, once and for all, for you and me. It allows me to exchange my pain, shame, and guilt for His blood,
