About this ebook
The bounty hunter chuckled.
It was then that a young woman approached him. She looked a little beaten and exhausted, but there seemed to be a certain fire and determination in her eye. She was actually a looker if not for the curious eye patch that she sported. It covered one of her eyes and the bounty hunter could tell that her face was very slightly contorted because of the injury to her eye.
"That how you settle all your disputes at the Poker table?" she asked him.
The woman had long, brown hair and seemed quite attractive. The bounty hunter couldn't place it, but she seemed to be carrying some kind of heavy burden in her heart.

The Bounty Hunter's Apprentice - John J. Law
Chapter One: This Might Be Amusing
A Royal flush? Ain't no one gets a royal flush!
The man stared at the cards that were laid out on the table. His eyes grew wide with shock and surprise. They were so wide that they almost seemed to pop out of their sockets.
The bounty hunter noticed the man's reactions and was not shocked or surprised in the least bit. He was actually quite amused.
Heh. Well, I got one. Ain't that all fine an' dandy. It looks like you're quite ‘flushed’ about it.
The bounty hunter cringed silently. It was an awful pun, and he laughed not because of the timely punchline, but simply because it was so awful. The man in front of him, however, did not find it so amusing.
Ain't no one gets a royal flush! You cheated me!
The man was ranting nonsense fueled by the constant alcohol he had ingested through the night, and his own frustration at losing. One might even say that he was not completely in control of his faculties. An understanding man would try to calm him, or reason with him. The bounty hunter was neither. But he did place value in giving a warning. Even a man as low as this card loser deserved as much.
You better calm down and let it go, mister. It's just a game of cards,
the bounty hunter said.
The bounty hunter was calm, concise and direct with his words. The man's response was anything but. He slammed his fist hard on the table, and the cards fluttered in all directions. The other men seated around them were shocked and caught by surprise. The bounty hunter was not. He remained calm and even smiled, as the man spoke threateningly.
I ain't lettin' something like this go! No way! Cheaters like you deserve to get beaten down good!
The man crunched both knuckles in a threatening manner as he stood from his seat. He glared at the bounty hunter and did not take his eyes away from him.
Most men would be intimidated by this sudden display of brute force. After all, the man across from the bounty hunter was well built and looked strong and more than capable in a fight. This was not the case for the bounty hunter. He was more than confident as he smiled at the enraged man in front of him.
The bounty hunter waved a hand at the man, encouraging him to come closer. Come on. This might be amusing,
he said. He spread both arms out in what seemed like a welcoming gesture for the man to come at him.
To the onlookers at the saloon, it appeared as if the bounty hunter were taunting the man and was overconfident to the point of recklessness. Perhaps it was true that he was taunting him, but he was anything but reckless. Before even goading the man, the bounty hunter had already scanned the scene with his eyes.
