About this ebook
"I knew it! I knew this old mine still had a lot of gold in it! An' now that I know this mine's still got a lot of gold, I can make a claim, and I'll be made for life!"
"You see that, boys! I struck it rich! I'm rich an' so are you! You three helped me set things up here, so I'm going to share my profits with you! Don't worry we'll cut it evenly among ourselves an' we'll have a lot to live off of. There's a lot more where that came from in there!"
Samuel showed the small ounces of gold on his palm to the three men. He showed them off proudly like a parent showing his friends his newborn child. The men still did not look impressed.

The Pugilist and the Prospector - John J. Law
CHAPTER ONE
Friends
Samuel E. Samuels always had a problem with standing out. With a name like that one would think that it was no wonder he always managed to stand out, but it was more than that. People often always noticed Sam, and he often attracted trouble and attention in his life. This was quite inconvenient and unpleasant for poor Sam, who often just wanted to live quietly and get by on his own.
Sam pondered these things and more in his head, as he dug away at the mine. Sam often noticed all sorts of thoughts and feelings come to him whenever he went prospecting. He wasn't surprised. Prospecting for gold or any valuable metal was long, hard and tedious work. It was not something a lot of men could handle, especially those city slickers who lived charmed lives. No, prospecting was tough and often unrewarding work. But call Samuel E. Samuels whatever you liked, but you couldn't say he wasn't persistent.
Sam toiled long and hard in the mine for what seemed like an eternity. The morning sun gave way to mid-day and he was still in the mine looking for gold. It was when the sun was about to set when Sam discovered something significant.
I did it! I did it! I've struck gold!
You could hear Sam's voice echoing through the cave and bouncing outside. He was so happy that you could almost hear him shouting for joy from a mile away.
Sam saw the small ounces of gold glittering through the solid rock. They seemed so small and insignificant, but Sam knew that they would amount to a sizable fee, once he cashed them in. His heart swelled with pride and he felt a great satisfaction welling up from inside of him. He had worked long and hard to mine this gold and his hard work had finally paid off.
I knew it! I knew this old mine still had a lot of gold in it! An' now that I know this mine’s still got a lot of gold, I can make a claim, and I'll be made for life!
Sam Samuels felt very elated and vindicated, having discovered the gold in the mine. Purchasing some land near the abandoned mine suddenly made him look like a genius. Few people knew where the old abandoned mine was, and even they thought the mine had been mined for all it was worth. Samuels was the only one who had enough foresight to purchase the land near the mine. He knew he was settling near a potential gold mine that still had a lot to give. Now with the gold he had discovered, he had been proven right. If only Constantine were here to enjoy this moment with him.
The thought of his deceased wife suddenly made Sam feel quite pensive. A somber mood suddenly fell upon him, and the discovery of gold was now tainted with the bitter memory of lost
