Baskets of Fruit - Rebecca E. Louis

    Baskets of Fruit

    Baskets of Fruit,

    Baskets of Fruit.

    One for me

    And one for you.

    ––––––––

    Baskets of Fruit,

    Baskets of Fruit.

    I made it for you.

    To give to you.

    Truth

    I can’t keep it inside,

    I must say something.

    I have nothing to hide–

    Still, I can’t say anything.

    ––––––––

I don’t want to be here.

I don’t want to be with them.

    I have all to fear.

    I have a problem.

    ––––––––

I don’t want to hurt them,

    But I must say it.

    I can’t carry this burden.

    I will say it.

    ––––––––

I don’t want to be the bad guy.

    I know what I’ll do.

I don’t care if I’m the bad guy.

I know my words are true.

    Water

It’s known for saving lives, at least for those who depend on it.

Famous for drowning its prey, the vicious monsters ate it.

For some odd reason, it’s a beautiful thing, though.

What we need the most could help us or be our downfall.

    ––––––––

It could be considered holy and is used for purification.

Or it could be made deadly, to be an inimical temptation.

A liquid is valued as both hot and cold.

Being both temperatures, it can kill, so I’m told.

    ––––––––

This liquid can be beautiful when made into art.

Or it can murder you like an icy dart.

As you can tell, I love water with all my heart.

But it hurt me; that’s the worst part.

If I Give You My Heart

If I give you my heart,

    Be careful; it’s delicate.

    Please don’t break it.

    ––––––––

If I give you my heart,

    You should be honored,

For I keep it so guarded.

    ––––––––

If I give you my heart,

    Please keep it safe.

    They’re stolen nowadays.

    ––––––––

If I give you my heart,

    It’s for you to keep.

Please don’t throw it back at me.

    ––––––––

If I give you my heart,

    Be careful; it’s delicate.

    Please don’t break it.

    Burden

Burden latched onto my soul, almost killing me.

    So much
