    Silent Tears tells the story of twenty-four-year-old Jaslynn Gholson as she makes it through various trials and tribulations throughout her life, all told through the use of poetry. As a child, Jaslynn suffered from depression, and as she grew into a young adult, she held her pain inside and would simply mask it to make it through her tough life. Each poem tells different heart-wrenching stories, but that's not where Jaslynn's story ends. She speaks on mental, physical, verbal, as well as sexual abuse, loss of a loved one, a near-death experience, heartbreak, and so much more. Although she has been through so much, she never let her hard life define her as a person. Now that she has broken her silence on so much pain, she tells her story to allow the world to understand the mind-set of someone suffering from depression so that they may help anyone that they may cross paths with. "I don't tell my story for sympathy, I tell my story because it's the voice of many," Jaslynn says. Silent Tears is the first of many poetry books Jaslynn will be writing to help convey her message and to motivate her readers to understand no matter where you come from and no matter how low you've been, you can always make something of yourself.

      My Story

      You don’t know my story on how my innocence was taken from me so young, how it hurt me every night before I was old enough to run. Run from the pain, run from the hurt, maybe open my mouth, maybe if I had I could have gotten out. You don’t know my story on how a man could give me life, but not care enough about me to help me win this fight, this fight in life where we smile and grin but we are fighting so many endless tears within. You don’t know my story on how a man got down on one knee and I cried because I was happy but also because I couldn’t believe he chose me. You don’t know my story or why I sit in silence, not because I’m always unhappy just sometimes I should just be quiet. You don’t know my story but they say that the good die young, so I wear this clock on my arm because I’m wondering when my time will come. You don’t know my story or how good it feels to have a voice at last, even when demons crowd around too fast. You don’t know my story on how God has brought me so far and if you’re wondering what he’s brought me through I wouldn’t even know where to start. You don’t know my story, and I don’t know yours, we’ve all been broken and heard the racial slurs. I don’t need to know your story to love you because God loves me, and if we all could just love each other this would be a much better place to be. You still don’t know my story but this is a start at least.

      Memories

      Remember in middle school, all the fun we had? The embarrassing moments, the people that made you mad, remember the field trips? The dances? Your first kiss? The friends that moved away, the same people you miss. Then we went to high school and things were kind of the same. But we had to grow up and those friends changed. You meet new people and lose some old. And we have to study hard if college is a goal. Going to the best parties and getting all dressed up for prom. Wearing the newest clothes, arguing with your mom. Then on your senior year, you remember all you’ve done, all the fun times, maybe even a fight you won. You start to regret growing up. Never even crossed your mind that it would be this tough. Graduation day you are excited yet sad. There has been so many memories you’ve had. You walk on the stage and take a bow, holding back tears. I hope my parents are proud. You and those friends all go your separate ways. The true friends are the
