CHAPTER 1
THE PERSON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
The first and second books of the Holy Spirit that we published showed us that He is a Person and not an ‘It’. Just like any other person, He has attributes; dos and don’ts, a language and is also very sensitive. The Person of the Holy Spirit understands relationships more than any other person on the earth. He appreciates and admires relationships and most of all, wants to be in relationship with us. Wherever He is invited, He goes; throw Him out and He leaves.
Revelations 3:20 (NKJV)
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
He represents the Father and Jesus (The Son) in any relationship.
John 16:13-15 (NKJV)
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.
At the wedding in Cana of Galilee, when Jesus’ mother told Him that the wine had ran out, He told her that His time had not yet come. What time was He referring to? The time when the Holy Spirit would manifest His power. And as soon as He came, Jesus instructed them to fill the jars with water and it turned to wine. Remember that though Jesus had a great anointing and calling, to perform this miracle, He had to wait upon the Holy Spirit. This continues to show us our absolute dependence on the Holy Spirit for His presence in every aspect of our lives.
In the book of Acts, the Bible talks about a man who was ready for a miracle and was noticed by one of the apostles. My question is, who prepared this man for the miracle? It is the Person of the Holy Spirit who did that.
Acts 14:8-10 (NKJV)
8 And in Lystra a certain man without strength in his feet was sitting, a cripple from his mother’s womb, who had never walked. 9 This man heard Paul speaking. Paul, observing him intently and seeing that he had faith to be healed, 10 said with a loud voice, Stand up straight on your feet!
And he leaped and walked.
Attributes of The Person of the Holy Spirit
The Person of the Holy Spirit does more than a professional can. No one can bless you like the Holy Spirit, and once He blesses you, no one can counter it. He best knows how to handle each and every one of our relationships and will help us achieve our personal goals.
Looking at some of the major attributes of the Person of the Holy Spirit:
He is the breath of God.
Without Him, whatever we do has no life in it. Until God breathed into man, he was a mere clay. It is the breath of God (Spirit of God) which caused the man to become a living soul.
Genesis 2:7 (NKJV)
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
Job 33:4 (NKJV)
The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Job 32:8 (NKJV)
But there is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.
He has character.
He has ways.
He is gentle, only communicates the will of the Godhead and never His own will. He is only here to fulfill heaven’s agenda.
John 16:13 (KJV)
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
He has likes and dislikes.
He does not like to be ignored. He loves praise. He loves worship, the Word of God, prayer, fellowship, walking in love, faith, and the list goes on. He must be invited and given permission if He is to work in any situation.
Revelation 3:20 (NKJV)
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
When we nominate and vote people into places of leadership and power, we are in essence surrendering to their thought process and decisions. That is why until you authorize Him, the Holy Spirit will not get involved even if He is present. If we are desperate enough, we will wait on Him. The role of an individual with regard to the Holy Spirit is to wait on Him. The Holy Spirit knows that we have the ability to organize things, to throw a party, but He is wondering when is He is going to get in - when He will be invited.
He is gentle.
The Holy Spirit is the epitome of strength and power. When He would come upon Samson, He would give him the strength to carry city gates on his shoulders. He would have the strength to break ropes and chains as if they were nothing but threads. David said,
Psalms 18:29 (NKJV)
For by You I can run against a troop, By my God I can leap over a wall.
He also said of the Holy Spirit in
Psalms 18:34 (KJV)
He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms
He said that at the blast of His nostrils, the Red Sea parted. These and other examples in the Bible show us the strength of the Holy Spirit. But with all that power, the Holy Spirit is never forceful when dealing with us. He is gentle. He never speaks roughly or to inspire fear. He is One who will stand at the door and knock. He will speak when He is given opportunity and will not force His way on you.
He only communicates the will of the Godhead; He is only here to fulfill heaven’s agenda.
John 16:13-15 (KJV)
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
He has likes and dislikes.
He is attracted to praise and worship. He is The Spirit of truth, so He is attracted to truth and hates lies. He does not like to be ignored.
John 4:23-24 (NKJV)
23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
The Holy Spirit will not put down one man’s work to applaud another’s. Instead, He encourages us to continue to improve on what we have already done and reveals the heavenly Father’s love for us. We see this in the apostleship of Peter and Paul. While one was called to the Jews, the other to the Gentiles, yet the Holy Spirit used both effectively in accordance with the call upon their lives.
Galatians 2:8 (NKJV)
