    Introduction

    I write this introduction in Lourdes, this great place of love and healing, where the presence of Our Lady and Our Lord is tangible in the atmosphere, the Masses, the prayers and in the pilgrims whose love and compassion for one another reveals Jesus and His Beloved Mother working amongst us.

    Over 30 years ago I was searching for God, for a deeper experience and while the beauty of the life of consecration and spiritual union was revealed so was the path to this. I was horrified. I was confronted with the way of the Cross. This was a mystical experience and one of which I was very afraid. But naturally, when the Light of God shines on the soul our spiritual darkness -which needs transformation- is revealed. With God’s grace comes responsibility for this spiritual help. We either respond or we do not. God is, however, very patient with our slowness to respond - and merciful to our faults.

    The journey I undertook was both beautiful and, at times, very painful. Yet it was through the suffering (and cleansing) that some of the beauty was revealed. It wasn’t all pain though!!
