About this ebook
On his way home for the holidays, Kevin meets a brave runaway with a terrifying secret…
Kevin hasn't seen his father since magic changed him in the deepest way. His dad blames magic for shattering their lives, so Kevin worries the reunion might be dicey at best. But when a kid with uncontrollable, mysterious power asks him for help, Kevin throws caution to the wind.
No one should have to sleep outside, and no one should be alone for the holidays.
Rallying behind the kid means bringing even more magic home. And that's not the worst problem. A ferocious darkness hunts them.
This Yuletide, the battle of light and dark sparks a very unusual family fight. Will magic take their side?

THE WINTER KING
THE STARS SHONE in the midnight sky like a million eyes, staring down at me like a watchdog eyes a stranger in the heartbeat before it begins to bark. Their gaze lit me up in a silvery glow. Not that I needed more glow—my skin gave off its own phosphorescent light now. My once unremarkable brown hair and plain brown eyes were streaked with a silver and gold that marked me as something other than human. If that didn’t count as enough to give me away, my bright white wings—well, they were wings. I could fold them tightly against my back, but I couldn’t hide them.
An icy north wind whipped around the corners of the faded red brick warehouses on either side of the alley where I’d landed after crossing from the Faery realm into the Human world. The chill pierced the brown leather of my boots, pants, and vest, not to mention the thin white silk of my shirt. It did not, however, bite through my skin. I didn’t feel the cold at all, only the ardent caress of the air.
Hard to get used to, not feeling the things I used to feel. And feeling everything else much more intensely. I was so new to my power. New to being fae. I had a lot to figure out. I had forever to do it, supposedly. Until the world ended, that was.
I wrinkled my nose at the twin stenches of car exhaust and spilled whisky mingling with the grime and ancient motor oil that stained the ground. The bottom half of a broken, green beer bottle rocked against the curb. A series of squeaks sounded on the closest rooftop—rats, wondering who I was and what I wanted.
I whistled softly to let them know that a) I wouldn’t be staying long and b) I had no interest in disrupting their rat lives. I’d come back to the Human world for the most
