A COMMON MAN
I proudly dedicate this book of poetry to my wife Diann,
our sons Chad and Rusty, their wives Penny and Courtney,
and our precious granddaughter Abigail. Each one has
served as an inspiration for a great deal of my work;
without their love and support life
would be less meaningful.
CHAPTER 1
Romance
MY NAME
Some men seek great fortunes
While others long for fame
But the only thing I ever wanted
Was for you to share my name
From the moment that we met
I knew I loved you true
And I knew some day I’d hear you say
The words you love me too
Some men search for beauty
From the mountains to the sky
But I don’t have to search that far
I just look into your eyes
Some men dream of happiness
And hope their dreams come true
But I don’t have to dream
Because my happiness is you
Some men take for granted
The things they get each day
But I thank God in Heaven
Because he sent you here to stay
Some men think they’re perfect
At everything they do
I know I fail in many ways
But I was perfect when I chose you
Some men have everything they want
Money, health and fame
But I have more than all of them
Because you took my name
missing image fileWHAT’S FOREVER FOR
Our love will last forever
And that’s a long, long time
I know it will last forever
For we have a special kind
Yes, it’s very special
The love we share each day
It’s stronger than the tie that binds
And will never break away
Your love soothes my inner thoughts
In the stillness of the night
It lifts me up when I fall down
And turns my wrongs to right
It warms me when I’m chilled
And heals me when I’m weak
It gives me strength to carry on
When other things I seek
It’s like music to my ears
That’s playing soft and slow
And it’s like the breath of life
That keeps me on the go
It’s like the wind beneath my wings
That helps me soar to the skies
It’s like fresh water when I’m thirsty
That refreshes when I’m dry
It’s like the ocean’s water
Which flows from shore to shore
So if it won’t last forever
What’s forever for?
THERE’S NO ONE LIKE YOU
There’s never been a woman
Who could thrill me like you do
And there will never be another
Because our love is true
You have that special something
That can read my inner thoughts
And you help me find myself
Any time I’m feeling lost
You possess that something special
That some can’t understand
You have a tender heart
And kindness in your hands
You have a gentle spirit
