Are You Done With Him - Michele Nicole

    Are You Done With Him

    Michele Nicole

    Hibiscus Arriving

    North Carolina

This book is dedicated to all the women who have survived. Only you yourselves know what you made it through. Let’s face it: the fact that you’ve made it, kept your sanity, and are still able to persevere is a testimony to your strength.

It takes a lot to stop participating in what is unhealthy—especially when you know you are not done with it and you enjoy it. I had to stop lying to myself. I had to be confronted so I could be free.

At this stage of my life, I have found myself thanking GOD that He loves me enough to bring, and to TAKE, some relationships out of my life. He looked past my faults, my self-destructive behavior, and saw my need. I have since learned, and finally understand, that every issue that comes in my direction comes to build my faith and per-fect my character.

I'm gonna tell you a story, which comes from the pages, that make up the book of MY life.

    The Intro

Go talk to him! Go talk to him!

    But what if…you know.

Michele, standing here talking to me and telling me how cute he is ain’t helping you. Talk to him.

I’m standing on the platform waiting for the train to come so I can head home. I have a savage case of bubble guts, and my best friend, MJ, is encouraging me to overcome it by facing what has me nervous.

    My Head Turns

I received a call from my partner in crime MJ on a Saturday afternoon. She was considering going to see a dude she wanted to know better and asked me to join her. I must go, I’m a friend, and this is what we do. Besides, I wanted to investigate the cat and make sure that my friend would be safe. I met her at the subway station, we jumped on the train, and off to Brooklyn we went.

I met the guy she was interested in and while they chatted, I kept myself occupied. After a couple of hours, we headed home. We walked up the stairs to catch the elevated train. Since it was the weekend, we decided to buy our tokens ahead of time instead of waiting until Monday morning on the way to work. We were talking and laughing about her potential new escapade when we walked up to the booth. How may I help you? I heard the voice say. We were laughing so hard that I needed a moment to compose myself. While I asked him for the tokens, MJ cracked another joke and I lost it; we bust out laughing and even he started to laugh. I like your laughter, he said to me and I thanked him. We completed the token transaction and began to engage in conversation. During that time, MJ moved off to the side, went through the turnstile, and made her way up the stairs to wait for the train. I did not even see when she left.

How tall are you? I asked.

I’m over six feet tall, he responded.

You a big boy! Damn Bigfoot, I said.

We laughed out loud at the same time. I liked the sound of his laughter. It was scandalous and full of mischief. I liked the fact that he could laugh at himself. I liked him instantly.

Michele, may I have your phone number? My heart palpitated, my nerves twitched, I felt like my name was Nervous Pervous. I was quiet, looking him up and down.

My number? Listen, dude, how do I know that you are not some psycho bitch that is wanted in all 50 states including Puerto Rico?

Michele, don’t worry about me, I won’t hurt you. I’m harmless. I’m a gentleman; you’ll be safe with me, he said.

So I made the universal sound that every woman makes when she knows that the person she is dealing with is full of nonsense. Uhmm Humm.

    Translation: Oh please.

I gave him my number, he gave me his number. I thanked him for the conversation and went through the turnstile, headed up the stairs, and joined MJ on the platform.

    "Oh My God. MJ,
