I ran upstairs, I didn’t know what the night was going to bring, but I was scared enough to call my mom. I called her and said, if anything happens to me, no matter how it looks, he did it!

    Intro

My book is about domestic violence and marrying young. Most married women and family-oriented individuals strive, hope, and suffer through relationships with their partners to maintain their family status. I have come to believe one fact that holds married individual’s hostage in domestic violence. It seems to sum down to one primary reason. The reason is, The American Dream. Now, please understand that the angle of my book is from a wife’s view. So, with being aware of how domestic violence is hidden or inside of numerous scenarios, please understand that this is the view that I know. The American Dream consist of – The wife, husband, kids, house and maybe the white picket fence. With domestic violence inside of that house, behind closed doors and closed curtains, no one outside of that home can see, feel or even guess what is truly going on. Therefore, the American dream can still be lived out, but internally the American dream is an American nightmare. When you are a wife and mother whose only focus is that house, what else is there? The last thing you want to do is break up your family.

With all honesty I am human. I am not perfect. I mean, how am I supposed to deal with circumstances that I have never been in before? All I can do is react at this point. Reaction is only natural. Whether it is a negative one or positive.  I have learned many life lessons through domestic violence, and I have chosen to give back through this book. I am hoping that what I went through helps to save a life, motivates someone to get out or do what they need to do to help their partner through the issues; but be safe while doing it. I’m trying to prevent someone from taking the same roads for survival. Hopefully, they can do a shortcut by fixing the problem and get the help they need to save themselves by ending things the right way. I’m no relationship expert, but I have learned that all relationships are not healthy and sometimes you have to break away from them to grow and live a better life.

Eventually, all the puzzle pieces come together, and you must make a decision. You must make a choice for everyone: your partner, children and most importantly yourself.  Subsequently, I am in high hopes of helping all people of understandable age, ethnicity and classes relate and make the right decision for help and safety. This is my living testimony. While appearing to be a happily married working woman and balanced mother living the American dream. I was enduring and suffering the unknown and unpredictability of domestic violence because of an alcoholic/deranged/abusive husband. I was hidden to society, I lived as, The Hush Wife.

    Chapter 1

    The Meeting

I was in college at Jackson State University, on a track scholarship as an education major, with a concentration in English. At the time of meeting MB, I was twenty-one. We met at a car wash; I was washing my 1994 Burgundy Sentra off of Lynch Street in Jackson, Mississippi. We were at one of those spray and wash carwashes. He was washing his 2003 Monte Carlo. During the time of notice, I had already washed my car. I was in the back of the carwash drying it off. Suddenly there was a homeless-looking guy walking through the carwash. For the area we were in, this was no odd thing, if you know how Jackson is... The carwash was right across the street from a bowling alley called Cotton Bowl. Depending on the individual the area wasn’t one of the best places to be by yourself. So, the man started walking towards me. He was selling some jewelry. I started to speak to the man, in response to let him know that I wasn’t interested, but he continued to walk towards me.  I was getting timid at this point because I was by myself. Even though, I had mention MB a moment ago, I hadn’t really noticed him until now. I guess he overheard me telling the man, no thanks! That is when MB started walking towards me and the guy saying, no thanks with emphasizes. Then the guy turned towards MB and asked him if he wanted to make a purchase. MB was pretty firm in his response at this point, so the guy then scuttled away. Unexpectedly, MB and I was now face to face; this is when he introduced himself.

MB and I exchanged a few words; we talked for a bit. He mentioned how he knew of me from my line sisters and teammates and how he was in grad school. I told him that I had never seen him until now. He asked about other occasions, but I had nothing, I never noticed him. We continued to talk, and I thought to myself, "I am attracted
