ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
In football, it takes a team of committed dedicated players to win the Super Bowl. Likewise, a project of this magnitude could not have been possible without the help of those who combined their time and talent in an effort to make this work a winner.
I would like to express my gratitude to those who have labored on my team
to make COACHING a success.
My wife, Elena and our children, Daniel III, Charity, David and Moriah for being my greatest cheerleaders.
My parents, Daniel Robertson, Sr. (deceased) and Eleanor Robertson who coached me
into becoming the man of God that I am.
My first spiritual coach and Pastor, Lynwood Daughtery, who helped me to acknowledge my call into public ministry.
The Mt. Gilead Full Gospel International Editing and Marketing Ministries for putting the concepts of COACHING into manuscript form. I would like to personally thank Jeff Conley, Nedria Connor, Joann Cunningham, Taliah Dabney, Freddie Davis, Karen Gordon, Evelyn Hall-Harris, Gloria Hicks, Iris Jones, Mary Frances Meade, Darla Strickland, Patience Scott, Patricia Whitaker, and Melinda Woods for helping to make this a work of excellence. To all of the Mt. Gilead membership for being the best team I’ve ever had the privilege of coaching.
To my Spiritual Fathers, Apostle Leroy Thompson, Sr., Dr. David C. Forbes and the late Bishop Antonio D. Thomas for being my Head coaches.
And last but certainly not least, to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for being the ultimate COACH and entrusting me with the awesome responsibility and privilege of coaching the members of His team – The Mt. Gilead Full Gospel International Ministries.
Foreword By: Dr. David C. Forbes, Jr.
The greatest gift in the world is to be used by our creator in the manner for which He created us. When we allow ourselves to be used by God to impact the lives of others, our own lives are impacted as well. Thus, true fulfillment in life results from yielding to Christ, submitting our will to His, so that we can be used as instruments to impact the lives of others.
Dan Robertson brings the concept of COACHING front and center as the role and function of coaching is unveiled. In ministry and in corporate America, the importance of coaches and mentors cannot be overlooked. We must make ourselves available to coach
others into fulfilling their purpose and destiny at all costs.
Dan has allowed himself to become a coach to many. He is a coach, an encourager, an influencer and a people-builder. He is optimally qualified to deliver God’s clarion call for coaches to lead and develop God’s players.
We are all on this Kingdom building team together. At some point, everybody who is somebody will have had a coach. Everybody needs a coach if greatness is their goal. No person should seek to coach or be coached without digesting the golden pages of this volume.

Coaching: A Kingdom Agenda
Introduction
For as long as I can remember, I have always enjoyed being involved in sports. Whether it was the thrill of victory or the agony of defeat, I found both camaraderie and personal reward from working together towards a common goal. As I grew older, I learned that the feeling I experienced on the playing field could be enjoyed in the corporate and church environments. While the settings were very different, the common thread that is woven through each of those life experiences is the tremendous impact coaching has made in my life.
I thank God for the revelation that coaching is more than teaching someone how to be successful in organized sports. It is instead a form of leadership that focuses on helping each individual and organization develop to their full potential. Even when that development involves shifting people and positions, the end result is a work environment that encourages excellence on every level. It is my prayer that this revelation will spark the beginning of a life changing experience for everyone who dares to put these principles to use. I wrote this book to reach the frustrated manager who can’t seem to get through to his staff, the coach who knows that his team can do better, and the pastor who recognizes that preaching a powerful Word is not enough to complete his Kingdom assignment.
Through life experiences and sitting under the tutelage of excellent coaches, I have openly shared my struggles and victories in hopes of providing some insight into the solutions to your problems. I am convinced that applying the principles in this book can lead to winning championships, multi-million dollar contracts, and souls for the Kingdom of God. In the fullness of time, God imparted this revelation to issue a clarion call to those who recognize the importance of leading, developing, and making a difference "for such a time as this."
"To get men to do what they don’t want to do in order to achieve what they want to achieve…
That’s what coaching is all about."
Tom Landry
CHAPTER 1
MINISTRY IS COACHING
The game is tied and the roar of the crowd is literally shaking the stadium. Both the offense and defense are in position anxiously awaiting the last play of this pivotal playoff game. The ball is snapped and the quarterback quickly calls time out to stop the clock and prepare his team to score the winning touchdown. As the clock registers the final ten seconds of the game, fans and players alike recognize that the outcome will be influenced more by the skill and wisdom of the coach than the talent and strength of those on the field.
While it is a known fact that coaching makes the difference in the sports arena, many leaders fail to recognize that skillful coaching has universal benefits from the family room to the boardroom. Looking back to your childhood, there was always someone who provided instruction, tutorials, and training. Much of what a baby learns in its formative years is a direct result of coaching. Remember the constant reinforcement and encouragement you received as you learned how to ride a bike for the first time? What about the courage it took to ride the bike
