A Secret World - Amy Monrroy

    Prologue

Everyone knows the story of God and how the world was created and the story of God and Lucifer.

Lucifer was created by God and was God’s favorite angel and given much responsibility. Just like God gave man the ability to make his own decision so he also gave Angels the same choices. The bible tells us that Lucifer saw himself as God and rebelled against God. One third of the Angels rebelled with him and God threw them out of heaven - to the earth where Lucifer is always trying to hurt God by tempting and destroying Gods favorite creation, us. Lucifer became known as Satan, and the other angels became angels of death. Along came demons who serve Lucifer. A constant battle rages around us and over creatures believed to be fairytales.

The war continues, leaving our world left at stake. The new messiah is here. The blood line of the Virgin Mary lives on. God working to create his next messiah. His next pure soul.

Will God find another pure soul? What will happen if they play for only one side? Will they be able to survive the problems that lay ahead?

    Meeting Cheyenne

My alarm sounds waking me from my sleep. Tapping the dismiss button I get ready for the day. It's five in the morning as I put on my winter running clothes. My parents still asleep I slip out the back door and start my three-mile run in the slow-sun rising morning in Capitan. I follow the same path I've been running for the last 8 years.

The alarm clock reads 5:30 by my bed. Two hours to go before I need to head to school. I check over the homework I did the night before making sure everything is correct.

Nothing seems to be bad. I hear my dad bump his head on his nightstand. That probably will wake them up. My alarm clock reads 6:35 when I get back in my room from my shower.

I'm a little OCD about stuff like my daily routine. My closet is organized by day, then by weather, going from warm to cold. I pull out an orange colored long sleeve shirt and pants from my Thursday section. Long socks, and some of my older running shoes. Last but not least a fresh pair of boxers.

I check myself in the mirror, I may have only three hairdos but it’s sometimes a tuff decision. I've got a square jaw, and my teeth are pretty straight so there was never any need for me to get braces. My hazel eyes are a more towards the brown side today. Now the main asset my straight, dirty blond hair that almost reaches the middle of my forehead, the side cut short like the captains. People always say I have strong cheek bones that make my nose look good for my face. I'm not entirely sure that’s a good thing. I decide not to spike it or gel it back.

My alarm sounds again to signal it's 7:23 and time to head to school. With no stop lights and very few stop signs I make it to school by 7:30, giving me fifteen minutes to turn in all my homework.

I finish the work assigned in all my morning classes and take the homework that will be assigned for tomorrow. I usually try to finish all my work in class and get the homework for next week on Thursdays. Whatever work I don’t finish in class I work on at lunch.

Some people think I'm weird, so I usually sit alone at lunch, having one of the smaller round tables all to myself. Its ok cause I can get my work done quickly. As I scan the other crowded tables thinking about the answers in my head, I catch eye contact with a girl sitting alone on the other side of the cafeteria. She smiles at me then goes back to eating her food and I end up staring at her for a little bit. No one’s ever really done that they all just look away. But she doesn’t do it again.

The rest of my day goes on like usual, I do the assignments and get next week's homework. Finally, the last bell rings. I see the girl from lunch, she's standing towards the exit. She must be new because I've never seen her before and in a high school of only eighty students total- that's freshman threw senior classes- it's hard not to know someone. She smiles at me again and I'm forced to look behind me but there's no one there. Something must be wrong with her.

I put my head down and walk past her, she follows in step behind me. She's wearing a hoodie with the monster logo, it reads Estes Park, Colorado, and dark blue skinny jeans with gray flats. She must be about five feet because she just reaches the height of my collar bone. She's on the shorter side, the only girls that short are the freshman. She tilts her head back to look at me.

Don't you know it's rude to walk past someone when they want to talk to you. She doesn't sound mad, but I turn to apologize and see that's she's looking at the artwork on our school walls. Then she turns to me and smiles again, I notice her teeth are a little crooked. She has acne. Not bad just a few red spots here and there. Doesn't look like she has any make up on ether. I'm Cheyenne, what's your name?

Tanner as I say my name her smile broadens.

It's nice to meet you Tanner. Mind if I sit with you tomorrow at lunch? I’m new here and everyone else look like total drags. Definitely new if she wants to sit with me. I'm not sure if that would be a good idea or not. That’s usually my time to eat and do my homework. She gives me a hopeful smile. Plus, everyone else is laughing and having fun. I'm the weirdo who does homework at lunch. I also need some help with some of my classes, I'm a late transfer and I'm a little behind. Schoolwork. Should have guessed it. If we're only doing schoolwork, it'll be ok. If she starts acting like the others who just used me then I can always tell her to buzz off.

Sure, if you really want to. She gives the same smile then just turns and walks the other way.

I stop and look back wondering if I said something wrong then down from the hallway, I hear her say see you at lunch. With that she disappears into a classroom. I walk to my old Chevy four runner and head home.

At home dinner is ready on the table both my parents waiting. I sit and listen to them talk about my grades and how good I'm doing. A few conversations about each other’s days. Their proud of me, and their hopes are for me to go to Harvard and become a lawyer like my dad. Doctor would be my first choice, a lawyer is my second choice, and they would be happier if I was one. Doctors have more stress on their shoulders anyway.

After dinner I wash the dishes and head up to my room for homework, the last question done at 9:26. Like all other days before I brush my teeth and go to bed.

The next morning my alarm sounds again, and I go through my daily routine. My three-mile run check over the homework I did, shower, dress with the Friday section, a blue long sleeve and black pants with the same shoes as yesterday. But this time I decide to style my hair to the side. Why not try something new.

My second alarm sounds, and I head downstairs grabbing a protein bar and head to school. I do all the work assigned in my classes and start on some of my homework for next week if I have time. Before I know it the bell rings for lunch.

    To the Nurses

Isit at my regular lunch table and wonder if she'll really join me. She probably already found friends now. While I wait, I start to go over more of my homework.

Halfway through one page and lost in thought when someone grips my sides and yells from behind me, making me fall on the floor. I catch myself on my elbows, my butt lands next. A girl starts to laugh and when I get back on my seat, I find that everyone is staring at me. I look to my side to find Cheyenne covering her mouth with her hand, her eyes worried are you ok?. It takes me a minute to answer because I like her eyes. They’re a light blue, the closer you get to her pupil the greener they become. It makes me lose the words I was about to say. She gives me a shy smile.

I give a sheepish smile and she sits next to me with her lunch tray. Sorry, I couldn't resist, you just looked too easy to scare. She chuckles again.

I guess you were right. I try to pass off a laugh, but she notices it's not real.

I'm sorry if I hurt you, let me see your elbow. It looked like you hit it pretty hard when you fell. I give her my right arm. Other one silly and then she turns my left arm to take a look. Her eyes get wide and she pulls my napkin away from my plate and holds it to my elbow.

I was right, but I didn't think it would be that bad. It’s like you’ve got paper thin skin. She pulls the spotted red napkin away to peek and immediately puts it back down. Before I know it, we're both standing and she’s dragging me through the cafeteria doors.

We barely reach the office and she's already asking for the nurse, my arm stuck in her grasp. My only thought is she's amazingly strong for a girl. To haul me around it takes some strength. At least I hope it does.

As I'm being dragged around, I notice she's wearing all black today. The same hoodie from yesterday and she has black pirate boots on. Her hoodie is two times too big for her and it easily covers her free hand, hanging down to her mid-thigh. Her brown pixie cut hair is highlighted with some blonde streaks and kept back with a clip-on bow. I didn't really look at her yesterday. I only really took glances, except for when I looked her eyes.

We reach the nurses office and it takes me a minute to realize he's talking to me; I shake my head and refocus on what he's saying. He takes my left arm and gingerly pulls back the blood-soaked napkin. Cheyenne is in a rolling chair looking at the floor like she just killed a puppy. This time I genuinely smile at her and she finally looks at me, tries to smile, then looks at the floor again.

I think it just needs a band aid. You'll be fine. The nurse gives me a wide smile as if I shouldn't be here for something so minor. I think he thinks it's funny.

After the band-aid is applied he chuckles a bit under his breath. The nurse writes Cheyenne and me a note and sends us on our way.

Before we leave through the door, I hear the nurse ask crazy that this is your first time here I look down at Cheyenne. I mean she is new.

Yeah it is huh. She says.

I know it is for you Miss. Rolman. But Mr. Sanrick has never been in the nurse’s office, it’s almost like you’re a new student. I look back surprised.

No, I've been at this school since kindergarten. The nurse just nods. Then it occurs to me that I've never been to the nurse’s office. I’ve never really had to go. It's always been hard for me to get sick. I’ve also always been careful enough not to get hurt. Other kids play on swings and monkey bars I played with chalk and the sidewalk.

I know that much Mr. Sanrick. Better head to class now. With that he turns and goes back to some paperwork.

Cheyenne and I walk through the hallway in silence. I grab my books from my locker while she stands there, staring at the ground.

I'm ok you know. Just a little bust on the old joint, nothing major. I joke with her as I move my elbow and finally see a smile tug at her lips. What class do you have now? I try to get her to talk again.

Biology. She still won't look up at me but now I know we have one class together. I didn't even see her there yesterday.

Me too. Wanna be seen walking in with me or just take a few minutes between entrances? Finally, she looks up at me confused. People don't like to hang around me. They say I need to have fun and not be so caught up in school. I give her a halfhearted smile while rolling my shoulders, she finally smiles at me again.

Of course, I'd want to be seen walking in with you, you’re my only friend. At this she takes my good arm and starts walking to class slightly dragging my behind. So were friends now. When we enter the classroom, chatter stops and everyone looks at Cheyenne and me as we make our way to our seats.

I sit at the very front of the class and she stops at the back, maybe that's why I didn't see her yesterday.

The teacher hands me the work for the hour and I finish it within the rest of class, I look back from time to time and find Cheyenne busy doing her work too. Maybe we could study together if we don't get the work done in class.

The bell rings for the last class to start. I walk to my locker and grab my other books while Cheyenne walks beside me. We say our see-you-later in the hall then head to our classes. My elbow is beginning to throb making it hard to stay focused, but I have all my work done
