TOP Diets + Fatty Liver - Matthew Wayne

    Introduction

Our bodies are made up of what we eat.  When we eat healthy foods that are high in vitamins and minerals we are helping our bodies to grow strong, fight off diseases and to function at our best.  When we fail to eat healthily and exercise our bodies are not given the substances that they need to thrive and begin to shut down and turn against itself.

One way that our bodies protect itself is through pain and a process known as inflammation.  This inflammation process is a defense mechanism to protect the damaged area and begin the healing process.  In this book will talk about inflammation and how our diet plays a key role in keeping it healthy and why when we start to see unusual patterns in our healing we need to stop and take a look at the causes as well as treatments.

One major factor that you will want to look at when dealing with inflammation is the diet that we consume.  For many the word diet means losing weight.  Even though weight plays a key role in inflammation and overall health it is not the diet I am talking about.  A diet in this context is the types of foods that we eat and not the process of losing weight.  When we tailor our diets to fit a specific goal or lifestyle our bodies will begin to adjust to that lifestyle and be at its peak abilities.

The anti-inflammatory lifestyle is not a fad diet. It is a lifestyle change that can add years to your life and life to your years. Embracing this lifestyle can help treat or reduce the risk of a variety of chronic diseases and conditions. This lifestyle can be beneficial for anyone at any time. Noticeable benefits can occur in as little as two weeks. So come along and jump on the anti-inflammatory bandwagon for the healthiest ride of your life!

    What Is an Anti-Inflammatory Lifestyle?

Although inflammation is a natural and essential response to injury, irritation, and infection, too much of a good thing can be extremely detrimental to the body. This is especially true when the inflammation is chronic and overlooked. Chronic systemic inflammation can impose harmful degenerative effects throughout the body, resulting in a variety of diseases. Unfortunately, it is hard to escape inflammation in a world that is moving at the speed of light.

As the population ages and lives longer, silent inflammation is becoming more prevalent and its effects more pronounced. As the immune system ages it becomes when you cut your finger and it becomes red and swollen, inflammation is working its magic, and it's a lifesaver. During this response, your body releases pro-inflammatory chemicals and hormones that are equipped to deal with any threat to the body. These mercenaries attack unwelcome foreign invaders such as bacteria while tending to harmed tissue. Blood flow increases to places that require healing. Pain intensifies as a signal that something is wrong within the body.

The main hormones that control the inflammatory response are called eicosanoids, also known as prostaglandins, prostacyclins, thromboxanes, and leukotrienes. Eicosanoids influence many of the bodily systems and processes. In addition to triggering inflammation, eicosanoids, most notably the prostaglandins, are what promote pain, fever, and blood clotting when an injury occurs in the body.

Chapter 1 – Inflammation: Foe or Friend?

Inflammation is the first response of our immune system that is used in order to help with circulation, and to aid in communication with other immune cells in order to appropriately heal the affected tissue. While acute inflammation is normally addressed rapidly by the immune system, chronic inflammation is left unaddressed for a long period of time, leading to cell damage, and correlates with disorders such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes and Alzheimer's.

There are a variety of different ways that you can protect yourself from chronic inflammation with nutritional supplements or by a healthy diet. You may want to perform blood testing to see if you have higher levels of inflammation, leaving you at risk for disease development.

    Causes:

    Injury

    Infection

    Obesity/ Poor diet

    High Blood Sugar

    Oxidative Stress

Inflammation can be caused by a variety of different factors, including many lifestyle factors. It is important to enhance our immune system and strengthen our tissues as a protective mechanism against acute inflammation. Chronic inflammation can be helped by altering dietary choices as well as by taking dietary supplements.

Eating foods which are high in omega-6 fatty acids (arachadonic acid) like red meat, egg yolks, and other foods high in bad fats will contribute to amounts of inflammation in the body. Additionally, eating foods high in sugar will also contribute to inflammation through another mechanism. As our lives become increasingly stressful, and it becomes increasingly harder to find time or the resources to prepare healthy, well-rounded meals, our bodies are subject to more and more inflammation.

When we are stressed, our bodies release cortisol, which leads to a higher accumulation of fat in the body as well as a weakening of the immune system, leading to higher levels of inflammation. It is important to manage your emotional health and everyday stress levels in order to manage inflammation as well. Stress comes from a variety of different levels, and targeting stress can have a dramatic effect on various other areas of our bodies. You can read more about stress in our stress management protocol.

As the body seeks to repair this damage, it is important to determine what the causative factor was that led to the initial damage. Ask yourself, due to your lifestyle choices, is your inflammation related to any of the following probable causes?

    Injury or Wounds:

Damage to a tissue may result to inflammation as the body tries to draw circulation to the area as well as recruit other cells for help in order to repair the damage as quickly as possible.

    Infection:

Similar to the response when a tissue is injured, when a tissue (collection of cells) is invaded by a virus, bacteria or another pathogen, inflammation will result as a natural immune response in order to alleviate the infection as quickly as possible.

    Obesity/ Poor diet:

As we mentioned earlier, your ratio of fatty acids has a tremendous impact on the amount of inflammation in your body. You can control this ratio through your diet. Foods high in omega-6's (arachadonic acid) or bad fats contribute to inflammation. Additionally, eating foods high in sugar can lead to issues with inflammation as
