I was born and raised near Sandy Level, Virginia. I grew up on a farm, near Chatham, and Danville, Virginia. Married, had four children of which one didn’t survive. She died in a car accident at sixteen. After eighteen years of marriage to my first husband, was divorced. I remarried a year later. I divorced again. I never married again. In high school, I was very good in literature and spelling. Later in life I studied art. I came to Georgia in 1972, and have lived here, and always plan to live here. I worked on various jobs all my life, and raised my children and one grandchild, until I retired. Although I love to paint, I began to take a strong interest in writing after I retired. I wrote a book, once, when I was young, but I didn’t have a typewriter at the time, and ask a friend of mine if she would type it into a manuscript for me. She moved away and I never received it back. My retirement has given me the time I needed to do some of the things I always wanted to do. And I guess writing was one of them.

Chapter 1
I was sixteen when I had to leave home. I came to Georgia. My older brother had come with me, because he knew where he wanted to leave me. He knew this older man that ran a bar. His name was Jake. He promised my brother he would take care of me, and he did. He even sent me back to school. The following year I graduated high school. He sent me to business school for a year and on to an art institute. During this time, I had been singing in Jake’s bar on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. I really liked this part. But, I was also an artist, and loved my work. When I was singing, I brought in a large crowd at Jake’s and I was selling my work in New York all at the same time. I was earning big bucks.
One night, while I was singing, I looked out across the dance floor and saw this young man that was sitting at the bar in the corner, drinking a beer, and watching as I sang. When I finished my song, I went on break and bought a coke, because, after singing, my throat was dry. He came around the bar where I was sitting, and ask me to dance. We danced without saying anything. Then, finally, he told me his name was Morgan. He said, ‘‘I know your name, it’s on the poster, outside.’’ As we danced, he ask if I was married, and of course, I said, ‘‘no.’’ I told him I was still in school. He said, ‘‘not in high school?’’ I said, ‘‘no, I am attending an art institute.’’ He said, ‘‘that’s great.’’ He told me, he wasn’t married, either. Then he said, ‘‘you are the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen.’’ Well, how often have you heard that! After the dance, I had to go back and sing, again. The rule was that I would dance at least one round with each guy that stood in front of the stage. They would gather there, because they knew I would come down and dance with them, and I usually would. There was always a large crowd there. I had to go around at least once with each one, while I was singing. The guy at the bar, whom, I had danced with, just sat there in the dark corner, and watched. Sometimes the guys in the front of the stage would try to touch my feet or even my legs. One night, one of them touched the back of my leg too high and I kicked him in the face with my boot. I told him never to touch me ever again in that way. That night when Jake was closing, the guy Morgan, ask if he could walk me to my room and I said, ‘‘okay,’’ but I told Buzz, the bouncer, to watch. While Morgan and I were walking to my room, he said, ‘‘will you go out with me?" I said I would go out and eat with him sometime. I gave him my phone number, and he called me the next night and we went out to a nice place to eat. We really enjoyed ourselves very much. The next night, I was back at the bar singing. And I saw Morgan, back in his corner. While I was singing, a bunch of reporters came thru the door and started flashing their cameras at Morgan and I knew his hiding place had been found, because, he was an actor, he’d found this little hide-away where he could relax after shooting all day. I was finishing my song and I grabbed his arm and pulled him into my dressing room and locked the door. ‘‘Wow! That was close,’’ he said. I told him it was near closing time and for him to wait for me. I had one more song to do. ‘‘I will come and get you in a room.’’ He said, ‘‘I will wait.’’ So, after I finished my song I went to get Morgan, and sneaked him into a room. He asked me if I would stay and talk awhile. I said, ‘‘okay.’’ So we talked. There was a settee over by the sliding door, and we sat on it. He reached over and put his arm around my shoulders. He ask me if he could kiss me, and I said, ‘‘yes,’’ and he kissed me. It was the sweetest kiss I’d ever experienced. I could feel his passion rising and I had to pull away. I knew I was on dangerous ground. I felt I had to explain to him.
I told him I had never been with a man. That Jake and the guys, (the Nashville, Cronies) had sheltered me quite well. I told him that Jake and my brother were great friends and he’d ask Jake to look out for me. And so far, they did a great job. I told him that Jake had sent me to school, and made sure of my education. I told him that I believed in saving myself for the man that I would fall in love with, and I knew someday he would walk thru that door, and he has. I will only give myself to that man. He said, ‘‘Have you met that man, yet?’’ I said, ‘‘yes.’’ He ask, ‘‘Can I ask who it is.’’ I said, ‘‘yes.’’ And he ask, ‘‘who?’’ I said, ‘‘he is you. I have fallen in love with you.’’ He told me that he was in love with me, also. ‘‘But, this is all new to me, and I have to figure this out. My life is so complicated, now.’’
We decided to change the subject for a while. He told me, he was working on two movies at the same time. He told me, he’d signed contracts for both movies and he had to follow thru with them. He told me that coming to watch me sing and dance had been really relaxing for him in the evenings. While we sat talking, he leaned over and kissed me. He had a beautiful mouth and I’d wanted to kiss it again. It felt so good, I kissed him back. He asked, if I would stay with him until morning. I said I would, but that I couldn’t sleep with him, yet. I needed to get to know him better. I had to make sure he really was in love with me, and I told him as much. He said he expected this and he didn’t blame me. By now, it was daylight and Morgan had to go. He walked me to my room and he kissed me good morning. I ask him if I’d see him tonight. He said, ‘‘If something didn’t come up, and if it did I will call you and let you know.’’ He reached down and kissed me again, then left.
After that I didn’t see him for another two months, although, he did call me to let me know. I just went back to singing at the bar. I really loved working there because it was so much fun. I had a following, and Jake was making money. The more money he made, the more he paid me. A couple of weeks later, I received a phone call from my agent in New York, telling me he had sold some of my paintings. He was excited, telling me we’d made a killing off some of my paintings. He told me that I’d made a hundred and fifty thousand dollars on just one. I was excited then. I said, ‘‘are you crazy.’’ He said ‘‘no. It’s true. I’ve sold several and you’ve got three million dollars in the bank, and, you’re rich.’’ A couple of months later, I found out that this famous cowboy singer was going to be in town and he was staying at the motel where Jake’s bar was. Well, you know I had to ask him if he would sing for us, one night, and guess what, he said, ‘‘yes,’’ and even agreed to let me harmonize with him. Well, this Saturday night was the night he came, like he said he would. We sang and we did great, it was so much fun. He even gave me a turn or two while we sang. Then he was gone, but as we were saying goodbye, I looked over toward the bar, and there was Morgan, on his stool in the corner. I went over and hugged him and he kissed me on the mouth. I was so happy to see him, but something was wrong. I told him I had to work until closing and he said, ‘‘that’s okay, I’ll wait for you.’’
I had to go and sing some songs. By the time I was finished it was closing time. Morgan said, ‘‘let’s take the limo and go find some breakfast.’’ I said ‘‘okay.’’ So we went to eat breakfast. Then we went back to the motel. Morgan looked at me and said, ‘‘will you stay with me?’’
I told him I would. He said, ‘‘what will Jake say?’ I looked at him and said, ‘‘Morgan, I’m a grown young woman. What can he say.’’ We went inside, to his room and undressed for bed. I lay down beside him and it felt so natural. I put my arms around him and loved him with all my heart. It was wonderful and I hardly felt any pain at all. We fell asleep in our arms. The next day we awoke and just lay there and looked at each other in wonderment. He finally said, ‘‘I’m in love with you and I want to marry you and want you to come to California with me.’’ I told him it would be so far away. I said I have family in Virginia, when would I ever get to see them.
He said,’’ you can go visit them. All I know is that I want you with me always. I want you there to go on location with me. I don’t want us to be separated another two months like we were the last two months. I love you and need you. Please!’’ I looked at him for a long time and I told him that I would go where ever he wanted me to go. I said, ‘‘I love you with all my heart, and will be with you until I die. That is my promise to you. But I’ll expect the same from you.’’ He said, ‘‘you have my promise.’’ He put his arms around me and pulled me to him and kissed me and we made the sweetest love ever. That night at Jake’s bar I was back at work singing my heart out. I really loved my job, and I would miss it a lot.
Chapter 2
B ut I loved Morgan too much. I would go with him. I was excited about my prospects, too. My work was selling good in New York and I knew I would never hurt for anything, or, my family. I would be able to help Jake upgrade his place, too. Morgan and I were so in love, I knew we would be happy. I’d be on location with him and we wouldn’t be separated anymore. Well, Morgan did get more work. It sent him to northwest Wyoming, to work. Of course I went with him, and his boss didn’t like it. They had a big argument about it and Morgan told him that if he wanted him to work for him he’d have to like it. Of course his boss reminded him that he was under contract with him. It seemed as if he was between a rock and a hard place. Well, since I was already there, he let me stay, but there was a big, BUT, about the next time. Morgan did tell him that I’d be with him every time he went somewhere, or else he wouldn’t go. I had to
