    Part I: Introduction (PPT-1)

This training manual has been developed for conducting a workshop for the officers and managers of corporations, small businesses, and non-profits and their employees, to help them better understand how to work with and provide employment opportunities for employees with a disability.  It can be adapted for working with employees who are already hired or for new hires.

The program is designed to provide both information and a series of simulations and games to offer a hands-on experience that will provide opportunities for reflection and discussion.  It is supplemented by a PowerPoint presentation, which begins with the Title Page (PPT-1) on the screen.

The 16-hour workshop can be conducted as a complete program during a two-day training or it can be divided into a series of separate modules that can be presented as four half-day programs or five 3 1/2 hour programs.  These alternatives are provided to accommodate different types of work settings.

The target students are leaders or employees in companies with 10 or more employees or organizations with more than 10 participating members to provide a large enough group for conducting a workshop.  However, leaders, employees, and members of smaller organizations might be combined into a larger group for a workshop.  The program can be adapted for any age group, whether or not the participants have worked with people with disabilities.  he information can also be applied outside one’s own organization to include any kind of contact with people with disabilities.

Where the topics for this program are included on PowerPoint slides, they are indicated next to the subhead for that topic in parenthesis as PPT-1 (Title Page), PPT-2, PPT-3, and so on.

    Structure of the Workshop

The workshop will combine a mixture of lecture using PowerPoint slides, video presentations, visualization and journeying, experiential exercises, simulation games, reflection on the material presented, discussion with other participants, and sharing with the group as a whole.  The presenter will act as the facilitator in leading the exercises and group discussion.  The presenter will use the feedback sessions to assess student learning, clarify student comments, and provide additional lecture or experiential material as needed to help students acquire key learning points.  To promote student interest and involvement, the presenter will show a high level of interest and enthusiasm, and will encourage all participants to take an active part in the exercises and discussions.  Participants will also be invited to experience the role of leaders in the small group exercises, discussions, and games.

To conduct the workshop, the following
