About this ebook

Shakespeare Shorties are for teachers who are long on ambition but short on time. These short, fifteen-minute scripts are a great way to expose middle grades to William Shakespeare's legendary stories, characters, and language in a format that is quick and easy to grasp.

Shakespeare Shorties can be used for formal performances or as a fun activity to get a class up and moving and students interacting with the text. Introducing Shakespeare with short, hilarious scripts allows important ground work for more in depth studies in years to come.

"The Tempest" is a fantasy and therefore a great introduction for middle schoolers to William Shakespeare. A powerful sorcerer, a pregnant witch, a bossy air spirit, a disgruntled monster, a heartbroken king, an evil duke, wayward servants, a handsome prince and beautiful girl...betrayal and forgiveness...O, brave new world! You name it, it's all right here in Shakespeare's last play.

In order to keep them short, modern language is used with a sprinkling of famous quotes or dialogue. Although originally written for fourth grade, younger and older students would enjoy the scripts as well.

You are free to copy this for your students or actors. I usually gave each student a whole copy as they all had lines through out. Then I kept a few in my classroom if someone lost or forget their script. You may add or update the modern jokes and references as you see fit. However, keep in mind that each line adds time to both rehearsals and performances, so be careful how much you deviate.

    THE TEMPEST WITH KIDS

The Tempest is one of Shakespeare’s best plays for children. A wizard, a witch and her despicable monster son, fairies, kings and dukes,
