About this ebook
"It's not finished!" the judge at the Oundle Literary Festival told me.
I had just been awarded first prize for 'The Gift' so I was astonished to hear these words.
"It needs more," she continued. She looked at me with sharp eyes through her spectacles just as an eagle eyes a skinny worm.
A year later, free from the restrictions of word counts, this version is now twice as long; and hopefully much the better and fatter for it.
With grateful thanks to all involved in the Oundle Festival of 2011.

I am a writer living in the heart of England with a fascination for stories which slide between realities. References to ancient pagan mysteries pre-dating Christianity can often be found within my 'Tales of the Supernatural' where out of the everyday ordinary world come extraordinary stories.

The Gift
If you ever chance to look across those fields you might glimpse a wraith like figure disappearing beneath a rather splendid lime tree opposite the old farmhouse. Just a shadow from the past you might well suspect. A ghost of a once beautiful woman you may well guess. Or even for those of you lucky enough to have two feet firmly rooted to the ground, perhaps it's just someone living there, or maybe even a passing vagrant.
And so here the path divides and offers you the chance to test out your theory. How many of you will dare to do so? Particularly, if I now let drop the name, 'Rosa Watson'. Ah yes, Rosa Watson! A name that always conjures that reaction. There can't be many who've never heard of her, and of the terrible crime associated with her name; though for many the details have become a little hazy in the retelling.
