Writing my thoughts and feelings down ...view moreI started writing in the 7th grade as a way of expressing and understanding the world and things going on around me that I was unable to verbally express.
Writing my thoughts and feelings down helped me to better understand myself and the people and things I encountered with more clarity.
My first published work was from a classroom assignment from a visiting musician speaking to our class. He encouraged us to write about what we heard, saw and felt. He asked my permission with the English Teacher to use my poem as as song to write music to.
Over the years, I've had my poetry included in two Anthology books with other poets. Lady Fingers Jazz Band I performed with, also used my lyrics to produce "Twisted Love" on their last CD.
My first published book titled, "Through The Storms, was published 2010. I've participated in several open mic performances and have been invited into churches and Middle Schools classrooms to share my poetry with various student groups and organizations.
Writing is a gift of expression. I write when I'm inspired or when I feel the need to speak out on injustice.I always hope that my poetic expression will resonate with whoever reads or hears my words, will be encouraged, healed and inspired. view less
