Splitter grew up on Long Island, earned a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and taught at the California Institute of Technology and De Anza College. He has published two other works of fiction and a psychoanalytic study of Marcel Proust. A grandfather now, he currently lives with his wife in Portland, Oregon, where he dodges raindrops and virus particles, exercises his social conscience, and writes novels.view less
