Born in 1938 in La Spezia (Italy), in 1956 he moved to Padua to attend the university, where he studied physics and mathematics. After working at the European Space Agency in Germany, in 1984 he became professor of applied mathematics at the University of Padua, where he worked until retirement, in 2009. After retirement he devoted himself to the beloved study of history of arts and foreign languages (English, German, French, and Chinese).
In 2013 he started a collaboration with Professor Sha Ha from the Confucius Institute of Padua, with whom he wrote of a “cultural guide” to Venice and cooperated in the translation, from Chinese into Italian, of the book “Bitter Journey through Culture,” written by the Chinese scholar and essayist Yu Qiuyu.
About Sha Ha
Sha Ha was born in 1976 in Hunan (China). She got her bachelor degree of arts and master degree of education at Guangzhou University. She has always been interested in Chinese and Western literatures, languages and arts, owing to her educational background and her personal inclination. As a member of the Institute for Chinese and Western Cultural Studies of the Guangzhou University, she delivered academic lectures, published several research paper, translated from Chinese into English four books, such as “The Ship from the West: Renaissance of the Maritime Silk Road,” by Zeng Zhi (Guangdong Education Press, 2006) and the best-seller “A Bitter Journey through Culture,” written by the Shanghai professor and essayist Yu Qiuyu. This book examines and discusses relevant aspects of the Chinese cultural heritage, from its ancient past to present times.
Since the end of 2010, she has been working in Italy, at the Confucius Institute of Padua, where she is teaching Chinese language and promotes cultural initiatives concerning China, in cooperation with the University of Padua. She is also a PhD candidate of Ca’ Foscari University in Venice, specializing in comparisons between Chinese and Western cultures.view less
