Soon she was writing limericks for birthdays, holidays and other special occasions. Her younger sister, Sandra, who was too young to remember their lives on the farm but loved to listen to Joann's stories, jokingly suggested that she write a book. Joann questioned who would want to read such a book, but then it occurred to her that if she wrote the book in limerick form, people might just enjoy reading it. So, at age 81, she began writing down her "tales of rural life." She had worked twenty years as a legal secretary, but had never written anything herself and never thought of herself as creative. But everyone who read her limericks loved them and encouraged her to pursue publication - and so she did.view less
