She was the fourth child born to her mother, a fieldworker, and father, a brick mason. When she was just a toddler, her mother relocated the family to Florida and settled in the all-American city of South Miami. April attended all the local schools, including Miami-Dade Community College.
April was an active volunteer in her community. For years she worked on programs, including the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Annual Celebrations and many South Miami Community Outreach Gospel Programs. Along with her writing, singing has always been a passion of hers. She was one of the founding members of the Miracle Voice Ensemble.
Many years ago, her pen was her way of escaping some of the hard times she faced. She discovered that she could live victoriously and help others by writing about her experiences, triumphs, and pains. She brought us her first novel, I Don’t Sing Anymore. April’s writing brings concrete reality to the issues within the twenty-first century world. Now she invites us to read her new poetry, Shades of Life. She exhorts and motivates her readers to remain constant and dedicated to their passions.view less
