In a remote CA county, crimes against Native American women are being ignored by the local sheriff. McCone is asked to investigate and finds that the crimes committed are well beyond her initial tasks. She and her team end up challenging most of the county's blue bloods and local law enforcement. Crisp and brisk in true McCone fashion, she takes them down in a grand finale.

This book addresses the crisis of Native women disappearing or being murdered and no one really investigating. It was a really enjoyable read.

40 years of Marcia Muller writing Sharon McCone mysteries and they are still good! Indigenous women in a far north CA county are being murdered and raped. Sharon goes in undercover to find the culprits. She’s still a bit of a superwoman but an enjoyable read.

I.loved.this.book. I've been a fan for decades. I felt like I'd lost touch with Sharon the last few books but she's back just like the old days. Please don't stop writing these books Marcia Muller until I have passed from this earth!

This is a series that I avidly followed for many years but for some reason or another I lost track. Saw this one and thought I'd see what Sharon McCone is up to these days. These reads are closer to cozies than out and out thrillers, fast reads for the most part. I do give the author major props for the subject of this outing. The murder and disappearance of indigenous women that get little attention nor public exposure. Nor are many of these cases solved, for various reasons but mostly due to unconcern by law enforcement, along with some archaic laws that let a perpetrator commit a crime on a reservation and leave the reservation free and clear. They can't be prosecuted. Unbelievable.

So a so so outing but one with an important subject.

    ARC from Netgalley.
