About this audiobook

“Your life can change in an instant”~ Madden I never thought a night out could change everything. All I wanted was to dance, drink, maybe take a cute guy home for a night of fun. I met the guy, but the night ended as a nightmare. Screams, and blood, and tragedy haunt my dreams. I'm alive and I owe it all to the gorgeous marine who refused to leave me for dead. But how can I start a new relationship when I'm not even sure who I am anymore? “I'll always save you” ~Thane After a long work week all I wanted was to let my hair down and to meet a nice guy. When I laid eyes on the gorgeous, tattooed man at the bar, I had to have him. I never would have thought the night could end in such horror. I saved his life, and I swear I'll save him as many times as I have to. Even if it means saving him from himself. **This is the first book in the Heathens Ink series in which every book can be read as a stand alone. CAUTION: this book is recommended for readers 18+ and does contain one scene of graphic violence that may disturb some readers. And, in case it wasn't clear from the description, this is an M/M romance, man parts will be touching.

What our readers think

Readers find this title to be a mix of positive and negative aspects. The book has a good buildup and touches on complex issues, but some readers feel that it goes nowhere in the last 20% and only serves to set up the rest of the series. However, others appreciate the strong and thriving romance between the well-developed characters. Some readers find the writing lacking and illogical, while others appreciate the story's themes of overcoming adversity and finding love. Overall, the book has a warm and fuzzy feel with some sharp edges.

Very emotional. I knew that from the summary but it lived up to it. Realistic and beautiful. Made me giggle and tear up. Spicy scenes were written well and believable chemistry. On to the next!

I was drawn the this audiobook bc it was under 5 hrs, so I knew going in it wasn’t going to be a long dragging story. But there’s a whole lot of issues to deal with. Maddox has had a rough road and he may not always make the most logical choices but he tries. Thane is living his life but not so openly. As a former marine & a firefighter he has a surprisingly soothing personality not very alpha. It’s warm and fuzzy with some sharp edge.
Trigger alerts hate crime/mass shooter, homeless minor, suicide, recovering addiction and PTSD

Awesome. Finding oneself after adversity takes courage, and understanding from friends and family. Love in the end wins, even sometimes in real life too...

Loved the idea...but the writing is lacking. Some story points are just unreasonably illogical.
An unknown sibling....sure move on in. Just that type of 'wtf' stuff pulls me out of the story.
I felt this about the first book as well - sure get shot 3 times and spend 1 night in hospital hahaha, but was hopeful book 2 would be better.
Don't get me wrong, it's worth a listen but for me personally it's not one I would listen to again.

Thane and Madden meet at the club bar with strobing lights and pounding music. It’s instant lust, instant attraction – the perfect first club meet. Until the gun shots start.

This is a story about love, but it’s also a story about overcoming and healing. Thane and Madden are both men who have dealt with their own pain and struggles – they are no strangers to adversity. But when a moment of fun turns into one of the most dangerous nights of their lives, old wounds are reopened and magnified by a new trauma.

What I really liked about this book is that although there is a lot of adversity and personal healing, the romance is still strong and thriving. Thane and Madden have a beautiful connection with each other and with their friends. They are well developed characters who grow and change, and despite all the pain, there is a lot of humor, joy, and snark. Plus there’s some super hot sex scenes which were wonderful. Overall, I really liked this book and I’m so happy I started this series.

It was great right up until the end. Where the mc has to dump the other guy to heal himself. Nope.

Clearly the author has never had a broken bone or surgery.

Good buildup from the opening scene of violence, deftly touched on some complex and challenging issues, but then it kind of went … nowhere. The last 20% of the book served only to set up the rest of the series. Just ok.
