      I finally finished Book 1 in the series I've loved in the past few months. Sarah Fox writes so well, and I've come to love all the characters here. They are layered and have a personality. I really enjoy reading the books and even the audiobooks are great. These books are a great companion when you're unwell or if you just don't want to read something intense.

      Marley McKinney comes to Wildwood Cove where she spent the happiest part of her childhood when her Cousin Jimmy is hospitalized with pneumonia. She is taking care of his restaurant The Flip Side Pancake House. She is having a good time getting to know the locals and rekindling friendships from childhood.Just after Jimmy releases himself from the hospital, he is found dead near his restaurant. Even though the police are competent and concerned, Marley decides that she needs to find her cousin's murderer. She has all sorts of suspects from the girlfriend Jimmy parted ways with before he got sick and her creepy son to a disgruntled ex-employee who delights in causing trouble to the real estate magnate who has built a tasteless mansion next door to Jimmy's Victorian and would love Jimmy's land too.There are some love interests for Marley too. Brett is a local who was a childhood friend. Michael is a relative newcomer who has a plumbing business. This story was fast-paced and the heroine managed to avoid occasions to be To Stupid To Live. She did have to deal with a couple of break-ins at her home and the pancake house. She also walked in on an intruder but immediately called the police. I liked the story and the recipes at the end sound good too.

      At times I was so frustrated with the way things were going. It really kept you on your toes. How can one woman go through so much. Finally figured it out. Great listen!

      The mystery was engaging enough, but the writing seemed clunky to me at times. It is fine, but I don't plan. to read others in the series.

      This was a really good cozy mystery. I finished it in one morning. The main character, Marley, was likable, and the plot made sense. Wildwood Cove sounds like a great place to live, and the Flip Side Pancake house sounds like a great place to eat. I wish I could visit this town.

      The mystery itself made sense, and it was easy to keep all of the suspects straight. This is a great start to a new series.

      Murder of a beloved elder relative who is also beloved by the small coastal community.
      Marley took time off from her job in Seattle to manage the pleasant eatery owned by Jimmy who had been in hospital with pneumonia. Turns out that he got himself out of hospital at the wrong time and wound up dead, not of drowning but having been stabbed to death first. Law enforcement is good despite being small, but Marley has a need to help, especially after some threatening incidents. No lack of misdirection, red herrings, and disquieting characters. Good sleuthing!
      Marguerite Gavin adds to the suspense with her narration.

      The Pancake House Mystery series is off to a great start. I really enjoyed the Crepes of Wrath. The author starts off strong with the introduction of the protagonist Marley and some of the other main characters. They are very well developed and it feels like they are all friends, even though Marley has only been there a few weeks while her cousin Jimmy recuperates from pneumonia at the local hospital. When he checks himself out of the hospital early and comes home by taxi, disaster strikes as his body is found on the nearby rocks. With Sheriff Ray determining it was murder, Marley is thrown into a mystery. Marley is a great character, she is smart, strong, kind yet at a crossroads in her life. It is easy to see how she attracts so many new friends and fits into this lovely seaside community so well. With some red herrings thrown in, the mystery is well written, although I did figure out who the murderer was quite early in the story. This is a great introduction to a new series and I will be checking out he rest of them. There are also some great pancake recipes at the back of the book that I am going to try out. A great book for cozy mystery lovers, but make sure you already eat before you read it.

      I love breakfast with all its yummy possibilities so this new series seems a perfect fit, and while my mouth was watering frequently through the reading, the story and characters kept me very entertained.

      Marley has come to town to help in her cousin Jimmy's Pancake house while he is in the hospital. She thinks it will only be a few weeks but things go wrong when Jimmy is found dead by the shore. Mourning his loss and startled by the knowledge that she is the main heir including the restaurant, Marley sets out to find who shortened Jimmy's life.

      The characters were fun and well-rounded and the setting was "delicious". Definitely a series to keep on the hot list!

      We love all kinds of breakfast fare around here, so learning how Marley comes to be in charge of her cousin's pancake house was fun. The town of Wildwood Cove sounds like a place I'd like to visit and the people that inhabit it, easy to get to know! I look forward to visiting with Marley and everyone again some day!

      The Crepes of Wrath by Sarah Fox is the first book in A Pancake House Mystery series. Marley McKinney has agreed to The Flip Side Pancake House in Wildwood Cove, Washington while her cousin, Jimmy Coulson, is ill (double pneumonia). She has taken a leave of absence from the law firm where she works as a legal assistant. Jimmy finally gets released from the hospital and is at home resting. But then Jimmy is found dead on the rocks by Leigh Hunter (a waitress at the restaurant) of a cliff near his home. Did he accidentally fall down the cliff while walking? What was he doing out alone? Then there is the guy lurking around her cousin’s workshop and the stolen paintings inside the workshop. Did Jimmy steal them? Marley does not want Jimmy’s good name tainted and, reluctantly, starts asking questions. Will Marley be able to pull out the pieces together to figure out the puzzle?

      I found The Crepes of Wrath to be easy to read, but it was a lifeless book. The characters were not fleshed out and given life. This is especially true for Ivan, the chef. The pace is too slow and some information is repeated frequently (it was annoying). The mystery was not prominent in the book (at least not in the beginning). I was 35% of the way through the book and there was still no investigation. The mystery was interesting (there were even some little twists), but the reader can solve it. I give The Crepes of Wrath 2 out of 5 stars. It was okay for a first book, but some things were just off. Like where were the police? Why was Marley removing evidence from a crime scene? Marley notices a clue that no one else found. These are just two examples. Not everything added up in the end. The book reminded me of a rough draft, not a finished novel.

      There are worse ways to pass the time than waitressing at a pancake house in the cozy little seaside town of Wildwood Cove. One of those worse ways is when your cousin, whom you were helping out with the waitressing, drops dead - with a little help - shortly after being released from the hospital.

      To say Marley McKinney didn’t see her time in Wildwood Cove going the way it has wouldn’t even come close. When her cousin, Jimmy called for some help with his diner, the Flip Side Pancake House, Marley was more than willing to help out. As a child, Marley spent her summers in Wildwood Cove and the chance to spend a couple of weeks there as an adult sounds quite lovely. In just a few short weeks, the locals have gotten to know Marley and she feels right at home. Running the Flip Side is tiring but rewarding work but Marley is managing with the help of a few friends and a surly cook who is genius in the kitchen.

      When Jimmy is found dead, Marley’s world is turned upside down. By all accounts, Jimmy had no enemies but then there’s the small bit of blood near his front porch, the stolen goods in his suspiciously locked up tight garage, and the ongoing strange happenings with several Wildwood Cove residents. There’s the crazy ex-girlfriend, the uber-wealthy land developer who has made no secret of his plans to “improve” the sleepy little coastal town, and that one sketchy couple that no one really seems to trust. For every question Marley answers, three or four more seem to pop up and at every turn she feels even further away from solving the mystery of Jimmy’s death.

      As Marley gets deeper and deeper into the murder mystery, she also has to deal with some big life decisions. She keeps running into her childhood crush who is yummier than ever and quite unexpectedly, she has to decide just how at home she really feels in Wildwood Cove since Jimmy left her not only the Flip Side but his home and cat too. Emotions are high, the danger is real, and if Marley is able to come out the other side unscathed, she might just have a whole new life for herself.

      The Bottom Line: Sarah Fox has convinced me of the goodness of the cozy mystery genre. The Crêpes of Wrath is an easy book to fall into and with the constant question asking from Marley, it’s perfectly easy to keep track of all the action and developments. Wildwood Cove is populated with some very nice people, some very weird people, some very crazy people, and one downright cruel person. The mix of personalities that all come together in the Flip Side Pancake House make The Crêpes of Wrath a really interesting and fun read. Now that the groundwork is there, I think the forthcoming books are going to be even better and I’m certainly looking forward to diving in.

      "The Crepes of Wrath" by Sarah Fox

      My Thoughts...

      This read for me was just a free preview of the story 'The Crepes of Wrath.' This seems to be a good foodie thriller mystery that will keep your attention and have you wanting to know who had killed 'Cousin Jimmy.' Marley McKinney who was from Seattle was visiting helping run her cousin's 'The Flip Side Pancake House' but later be kept busy trying to find out who had murdered her cousin. This seems like a good read to get into along with those dishes of 'pancakes, waffles, crepes along with some good recipes that I understand are located in the back of the novel. So, to find out 'who done it' I will have to pick up the remember of the novel to find out what will be coming next in the good mystery read.
