Starting on a Monday morning I scour the many WhatsApp groups that I’m a member of, eavesdropping on where waves were found, missed, or may soon appear. Between all the memes and banter there’s chat about all-time sessions and skunk missions, which helps with the next phase of attack…

…the Facebook groups. These are good for confirming the above, when photographers post the previous weekend’s evidence. Crowded Long Beach. Heaving Dunes. Not-so-secret spots cryptically captioned ‘Muizenberg cooking again’.
